For reference, [ ] Favour to Mira is definitely not the truth. The truth is 'the Empress you had assassinated was replaced by a woman who had previously pretended to be a member of the conspiracy you assassinated the Empress for being a part of, who was able to pull off the deception partly using Ranaldian magic which you personally gathered by being possessed by Mork and then funnelling that power to Ranald, and now you seek to bury this matter for the safety of your godson, the heir apparent'.
Nice that everything's so simple and straightforward! :V

While that is for sure way too much to share, would the truth but heavily abridged be a valid option or would that be covered under a Favour to the Empress?

...well now i want to...

the most likely conclusion that they'd reach is that Alys Schmidt is one of the Hochlander's agents, and the letter being sent to the Grey Order is intended for Lady Magister Mathilde Weber.

What was it that Algard said about hiding something from a grey wizard? Give them just enough clues to come to the wrong answer? Mathilde learned that lesson well.

taking advantage of the Coin's effects to take a few interesting cuttings for Panoramia while you do so

This is so cute. I'm loving that Mathilde apparently pays enough attention to Pan's interests that she can identify what cuttings would be worth bringing back, but at the same time she's framing it as an academic thing rather than "I got you some flowers".

Yeah. This is a hell of a lot of secrets, not all of which properly belong to us. In fact, the most important ones might reasonably be said to belong to a certain oldest friend of ours, who IMO might be understandably miffed if we blurted them out.

But [ ] Favour to Mira is a good cover, and if it results in Regimand going on his way we can either handle it solo or bring in Heidi at that point. So I think that's the way to go now.

It's Important would be the most truthful and get him to help the most right?

I don't think we should right in to tell any genuine truth, the circumstances being what they are I think Regimand's competent enough about Mathilde to appreciate us keeping a lot of secrets.

I'm fairly sure it qualifies as some sort of heresy, actually. Probably. Like, not a big heresy, but at the very least it's bad form to spill the beans on your best friend's plots and schemes.

…Well that just sounds like a much more complicated version of "favor to the empress". :V

We'll okay, it's more like "favor to my godson", but that just raises more questions, and Heidi benefits a lot too. Actually, now I really want to say we're doing it as a favour to our secret godson, and just not say who that is. Even if Regimand can guess it Mandred technically has all the same excuses as Heidi, and the familial connection might just make convince him not too look too deeply.

mmmmm, I'm in.

[ ] BoneyM

Slightly more seriously,

Would a negative reaction to

[ ] Favour to Mira

As in, Regimand goes back to what he was doing, allow us to reconsider

[ ] Approach Alric directly

?

Just tell him it's a favor to Mira for her support, we don't really need Regimand on this anyway if he has better things to do.

And if he does, then we can give Heidi the what's up without having to sneak around him.

How's this?

[] Write in - "It's important, but some of the secrets involved aren't mine to tell. In part it's a favor for Mira, in exchange for help with the Waystone project. Which you're welcome to if you ever want a break from the usual, by the way."

I'm aiming for truthful without spilling important beans all over the place.

Regimand: "Your going to have to commit a lot more probably treason than that if your trying to get a rise out of me."

Regimand: "Its the kind of stuff we do all the time. Secretly, might I remind you."

If something like this write-in doesn't win I sure hope someone writes an onake about it, the possible reaction is too good to pass up

Let's not tease the Grey Wizard with secrets for no real benefit. We're in both the wrong business and the wrong religion to be valuing honesty at the expense of other goals.

Also just realized two things chaos sorcerer Haupt-Anderssen is probably one of the ones who is part of the Everchosen bracket, the next logical target for his vengeance would be Roswita who actually took over the province.
I'd be in favor of something like
[] Write-in It started as a favor but now it is being concerned for friends.

I do like this.

@Boney

Would

[ ] "Favor to my godson"

And then eye twinkling and disappearing into the mist be a valid write in?

Or is that too impolite/camp for Mathilde?

We'll if we actually want him to help we probably wouldn't disappear, but I imagine Mathilde can still eye twinkle enough to imply he shouldn't dig, while also making him really want to.

I'm inclined to go with just saying it's a favor to Mira. If he's not interested fair enough. As was mentioned he's already given some solid perspective, and the Mindhole option seems as solid as ever, ready for us to give it a crack.

I think Grey Wizards of all people understand the importance of secrets. A great deal of the College's work, as I understand it, involves keeping dangerous knowledge under wraps. Or just knowledge that would be inconvenient, painful, or counterproductive to progress.

By acknowledging that there are secrets, but we are not at liberty to share them, we are being honest like one Grey Wizard to another. And if he trusts us he won't need to poke around in it.

[ ] Politics and Personal - In addition to the favor to Mira, you're concerned that, depending on how things play out, the problem could spill over to the Empress and/or Roswita.

Its Divided Loyalties all over again.
If its really the ghost than Mathilde has 2 things to take care of.

Duty to the Empire: either deal with ghost or let Alric deal with it.

Faith to Ranald: Prevent the Empress plot from blowing up.

Its such a LUCKY coincidence shes on the right place and time with the right excuses to interfere.

The 'won't need to poke around' is where things start to fall apart in regard to grey wizards. Trust or no trust if there's a juicy secret available they generally will want to at least take a crack at solving it.
