I'm pretty sure Ling Qi can put together a defense against cold snaps. On the other hand, Ling Qi in full war mode is likely to cause cold snaps, and there's something to be said for extra protection against that. We don't really relate to disease in either way.

The fields were all stated to be fenced off, so Liminal Carver should be able to allow Ling Qi to set formations to protect them at the boundary line.

Reasons for: developing a physical XP cultivation site, diversifying water supplies, preserving aesthetics of natural wonder
Reasons considered but declined:
  • Disease vs Cold (Zhengui and Hanyi are approximately equivalent counters for the two event types)
  • Happiness vs Wealth conversion (Granary offers +5 Happiness +5 Administration for -0.1 Wealth, but is too efficient to miss anyways)
  • Zhengui flirting (cute, but I'm not going to install radiant heating just to help you impress the cute girls)
I was recently reading about the Steamboat Springs geyser field in the USA (lost in the 80's after a geothermal plant opened) and the Orakei Korako geothermal fields of New Zealand (two thirds flooded by a dam in the 60's, including one that was world class). I don't want this choice to end up looking like those examples, and I think Boiling Deeps has a better shot at preserving the natural wonder of the geyser field.

@yrsillar Gui is the one arguing for Glittering Pools right? Then why does he say here that digging wells away from the lake will lead to less sickness but Boiling Deeps is the one with the mechanic for negating Minor Disease Events?
Glittering Pools is what Gui is pushing for. Boiling Deeps is what Zhen is pushing for...IICR?

The disease counter isn't something we have any other option to replicate it. Also it helps with Physical XP which is lagging behind by a bit.

I'm liking the disease counter. Also, I can't say no to a hot spring episode.

On one hand, i don't want to getin the way of Zhengui's harem shenanigans.
But on the other hand, good wells mean that people can spread easier far from the lake, without relying on one specific source of water.

Lakewater isn't the best for consumption anyway.
The runoff of an entire town will be going in there, and the spirit's own mythos won't help, considering at an early stage people already got sick from drinking lakewater due to the spirit stone deposit.

That's... not a lot of field space. I suppose that xianxia farming magic of some variety makes things more space-efficient?

That said, "farmhouse and its grounds" might include things like threshing floors and barns. Still kinda small, but...

Something to keep in mind: the size of a plot for a subsistence farmer generally tend, long-term, to be between 1 to 1.9 times the amount required for a single family to keep themselves fed and their taxes paid. If it gets bigger than that, it gets split into two farms - farming families will basically never have only one kid to inherit. So... big improvements in agricultural productivity mostly result in smaller (if more numerous) farms.

That is why I left it ambiguous how big each plot is, since I do not actually know al of the appropriate square footage :p

and yes, grounds is meant to include all of the non field stuff a farm needs
