Cold Snap and money.
Negates Minor Disease Events
+5 Happiness
Disease and happiness.

Money comes and goes but happiness is eternal.

Cold Snaps damage crops but it would take a large one to destroy an entire harvest, Hanyi would stop those anyway.

Disease can affect anyone in the fief, major ones or outbreaks still need mortal doctors. But Stopping minor head colds or flu will lower workload of doctors so they can focus on big problems and improve fief productivity from people feeling unwell.

Hmm.

I'm pretty sure Ling Qi can put together a defense against cold snaps. On the other hand, Ling Qi in full war mode is likely to cause cold snaps, and there's something to be said for extra protection against that. We don't really relate to disease in either way.

Happiness vs. Money is something that I'm pretty sure we'll be able to trade off against each other in the long term.

No clue what the differences in the Shrine chains might be.

Leaning towards the Hot Springs, since we're short on other anti-disease options at the moment.

"Vain Zhen just likes the pretty lake's praise and pats. Deep water is much better for the humans, they can dig wells far away from the lake, and not get sick!"
Should Cui be jealous?
I mean she will be jealous, just wondering if she should be.

On one hand, i don't want to getin the way of Zhengui's harem shenanigans.
But on the other hand, good wells mean that people can spread easier far from the lake, without relying on one specific source of water.

Ling Qi coughed awkwardly into her hand glancing to the gathered scholars, none of whom were quite meeting her eye. "...He's been arguing about this for some time, haven't they."

"Y-yes Baroness" the old man said, bowing deeply. "We beg that you arbitrate this."

Very funny. Trapped with a giant turtlesnake who have been bickering like children over this issue for way too long, unable to do anything about it politely, and you beg their mom big sister to make them stop please.

Also found it funny how Zhengui's pronouns just shifted to plural in the middle of a sentence. Not sure if there is a correct grammatical answer, though it feels like it should pick singular or plural and stick with it for at least the rest of the sentence.

last bit is a mistake should be singular all the way through

This was lovely. I think I'll go with Boiling Deeps/ Onsen, because we're likely to already have several long-term source of Wealth (Glittering Air from the Cathedral and the Spirit Stone Mine), and happiness can get fickle and has more of a tendency for downward spirals IRL. Also, as Gui said, Between Hanyi and LQ, Cold Snaps are more likely to be caused by the fief's protectors than by weather spirits. I'd prefer Gui to deal with sickness via indirect methods than his usual method of burning them alive, impaling them on roots or eating them (remember the battle of the Villagees?)

Ling Qi looked over at her friend. A comment that only half referred to their little outpost. It was only common sense for most, that a parent had such a right. "Well, I'll make sure you don't get too rigid. You make sure I remain on task, hm, Lady Ren?"

"I do not accept your diminutive. Do so again and I shall redirect all correspondence from the Celestial Peaks to your desk for sorting," Renxiang said flatly.

Ling Qi swallowed, her face scrunching up in disgust. "That's too cruel."

"There is a limit to my indulgence," Renxiang said.

"Alright, I give up, for now, Lady Renxiang," Ling Qi said, raising her hands in surrender.
Cai "diminutives are for those who lack the fortitude to use a given name without any title Qi" Renxiang. :V

I kind of like the visual of a warmer river valley in between the mountains green and alive even as the ice flows through the snowblossom river. On the other hand geysers sending steam over the land could make it unnaturally misty, though this just sounds like one geyser staying bubbly which isn't as cool as a land perpetually in between spring and winter.

It's a tough choice, but I'm tempted to pick thr one Zhen is advocating for. We mostly favour Gui, and I think central heating would help with year round crops.

Plus like, one of LQ's earlier memories was stealing a blanket from an old man to survive the cold. Ensuring that no one in her fief has to do the same sounds nice.

@yrsillar, will the other nodes provide the same options or are these only limited to this node?

All jokes aside, i think extra happiness and less disease is a long term winner.
We have means to deal with cold snaps, and we are not going to be hurting for money thanks to the spirit stone veins.
But reducing disease and keeping people happy, that i think should not be underestimated.

The most important piece of information is that Snowblossom, somehow, has been giving Zhengui headpats.
I have absolutely no idea how that works, but I know that it's adorable.
Don't let Cui know, though.

About the vote, I'm leaning towards the Happiness option.

The Wang Roads, mentioned in this chapter, already give a Wealth bonus. And that bonus is bound to increase once we reach Hamlet. We also have other prospective sources of Wealth, like the Glittering Air from the Cathedral or the Spirit Stone vein.
We don't have any direct source of Happiness at the moment.

Besides, a lot of the food in the fief is going to be fishes from Snowblossom, so any Coldsnaps wouldn't be too bad. It should be enough to sustain the small population we'll have in the beginning. Especially if we build the granaries and improve the fishing infrastrucure in the next few months.

Furthermore, Ling Qi chose the long standing boon for Bastion. So, with Hanyi's help, it shouldn't be so hard to place some cold protections of our own.
Having disease protection for the people living further away from Snowblossom sounds nice.

We have plenty of wealth-sources (see: Wang Roads and Spirit Stone Mine). Being able to keep people happy and ward against disease are good things to have.

Well, Ling Qi has a -4 modifier to Wealth for the fief, as much as Gan Guanli and Xia Ren combined...

Yeah, but -2 of that is for Zhengui, who I think nobody will ever object to paying for given the benefits of his presence.
