Super Robot Quest

Yeah... Ultimately a pass, let's give Ground Pound the Nightmare Energy and Nanomachines. I see no possible ways this can go wrong.

Zombie Super Robots, bah, no such thing.

On one hand, grabbing the definitely-not-Argent-and/or-Youma-particles for our own is a great way to supervise their use. On the other, I can't help but feel that having them anywhere near K-tech or the magical girl crystals is a recipe for potentially apocalyptic disaster. Lots of synergy there, but not the kinds you want. Also might cause a genre-shift. Bio-Devil Unicorn Gundam Unit-001 sounds cool, but we'd only get to keep control for maybe half an encounter, tops. Lots of potential research options here.

I don't recognize which particular brand of crystal these are inspired by, but they seem to be the safe option at first glance. Lots of low-level synergy options seem to be the obvious benefits if the research pans out, and the downsides are probably a lack of real oomph.

The nanites are probably going to be a problem, but having AIs on hand means they might have some nice synergies. Most likely, there's going to be some really big bonuses, but we only get to pick one.

Maybe it's a psychic particle like the Gundam 00 mobile suits. Considering they can create nightmares.

Edit: Didn't Ground stomp have power generation issues?

The Bleed tech looks cool, but it will probably have funky interactions with the K-class and ESP stuff, and there's something to be said about focusing on stuff we can already reasonably think is synergetic rather than adding an entirely new tech tree (Faedium looks like it plays really well with our Kaus tech). If the option was about hiring Zhang Ru or not I would have zero inhibition about hiring him but since he fits Ground Pound requirement and Mary fits with our existing thematics she feels like a stronger candidate to poach.

Besides, having Ground Pound integrate the Bleed and nanotech stuff means they are more likely to create nega-Mercury as a super robot which would be cool as hell. Instead of the unyielding titan of steel you have the undying monster that endlessly regenerates.

A Helping Hand - Ground Pound
Assigned: Max
Duration: One Turn
Rolling 2d6 (Threshold of 6): 6, 6. (EDIT: I would add the other 2d6 I forgot to throw in here, but you scored a critical, that's enough for anyone!)
Devin: Max. What did you do, and why do I have a mad science convention in what is admittedly an appropriate venue for them?
Once again this was the best possible result for this action. Getting two to Ground Pounds one or even the reverse is still a more than acceptable outcome no matter what form that takes.

That being said I feel the Westphalian derivative project fits the aesthetic of Not!Getter Radiation the best. Nightmare fuel and whatnot coming from an amorphous blob of machinery works I think.

All things considered we are probably in a much better position to take advantage, safe advantage that is, of that kind of particle then our competitor is. We have the more settled infrastructure base, and at the end of the day, if he's working for us, we know he's not working for anyone else meaning we can at least keep a lock down on the nightmare particles.

Id rather build towards our own success than moving to mitigate for someone else's risk of failure.
Agreed, and ultimately for all I'd like for Ground Pound to succeed and for Union to have additional Super Robot Development teams... We're already a success, and proven is better than unproven in this scenario.

Best to keep what's actually complementary to us, for us, and to give them what they actually asked for. The only thing I want to do beyond that is helping set up Super Science containment, which since Ground Pound is using mostly conventional science they will need some help, and possibly giving them an AI advisor. If I remember right we should be getting close to the official announcement of AIs, and they've been huge helps for us.

"It left lingering nightmares with people in a two mile radius," she replies. You stare. "Nope, not kidding. Pretty horrific stuff too. Mentions of glowing eyes, the sense of being followed, all sorts of stuff. So it's powerful stuff, and at a glance from a non scientific gal, it'll probably do what he claims it does. But that's going to take some getting used to."

....

However, the usage might draw peering eyes that otherwise might have ignored us.

Oh. Oh fu-

So, uh, is anyone up to making a deal with The Crawling Chaos? No, no one? Good, we still have our sanity.

Claymore Youma or Sailor Moon Youma? Because that's a big difference, I'm pretty sure Super Robots can deal with either Awakened Beings or the Dark Kingdom, but it'd be good to make the distinction early.

But either way, Ground Pound can have Zhang, I'd rather us not lose our two most experienced Super Robot pilots because the nightmare energy paired with their Psionics makes them evil and/or turns them into Eldritch monsters. Or have the nightmare juice zap the K-class into something worse than a Kaiju.

To be fair, at least it doesn't make people float in the air while reciting the Bible in Latin.

Yea I don't like the idea of giving the possibly lovecraftian power source to a NPC group and have it bite us in the ass. Better to keep that shit under lock and key. Is there any reason why we can't just give Ground Pound our current power source? We are on the same team after all.

Our current power source is actually conventional and not super science, it's not meeting the needs for Ground Pound. Now we do have a few things that are capable of Burst power beyond standard power, like the batteries used for finishers and energy shards, but those don't meet their requirements.

Ah I was afraid of that. Well I'll hold off on casting my vote until we see the last option, but I am seriously leery of letting a plot thread as potentially dangerous as what we just got go loose to bite us in the ass.

Devlin: "... But it will definitely solve your power problems".

Jenkins (sips more tea): "So, do I grab somebody from the Church of England, or would garden-variety evangelicals be up to par?"

Devlin: "To excorcise demons, or something?"

Jenkins: "Sure sounds like we'll need to".

It's dangerous yes, but not really anymore inherently dangerous than growing Kaiju Flesh, unstable energy fields, or making Psychic Man Machine Interfaces.

We'll just need to help them make proper security measures, and ensure that they have sufficient safeguards. One of the big reasons I want them to have an AI, and on further review, it looks like Peter's was expecting AI requests to start this year, so this seems like a excellent way to start spreading AIs amongst our forces.

People, you are freaking out over... overestimated problem.
Getter Rays cause nightmares. Mazin Power causes nightmares. It's old and traditional staple of Super Robot genre. I'm sure with a little refinement and some nanoparticle shielding it would be mitigated and would work as perfectly serviceable Power Source with cray-cray Chest Blaster for when you really need the Problem to be hit until it stops being a problem.

I Mean, at least it ain't those particles that stop any insufficiently shielded electronics in the area...
