Super Robot Quest

[X] Approach with courtesy, inquire what he's looking for, and what he wants.

I assume we're voting on broad approach since theres no info on what he wants/offers.

By now a good number of Intelligence Services agents are lounging around in the café. Most are acting as 'customers' in a semi-circular ring around the designated meeting place, all arranged as if this wasn't some overly elaborate setup. At least, the ones you know about.
So this is our city now...

If we manage to successfully recruit this guy. He will probably become our second super robot pilot as well as a reluctant liaison with his grandfather's group.
Wait, spiky hair? Like anime protagonist spiky?
I need to know the level of spikiness.
Everyone knows that the spikiness of a character's hair is directly proportional to how important a character is.
Crazy speculation: He's running because prof. Yukimura recognized the latent potential of his haircut and pressed him into becoming the pilot - but all Jiro wanted was to be a mechanic.

[X] Approach with courtesy, inquire what he's looking for, and what he wants.
This is basically what I want to vote for, but something is missing here.

[X] Talk about Jiro's travels, maybe reminiscence about your own assignments if it was in the same place. Sights, foods, people, etc.
-[X] At some point ask about the different mechas he's seen and how they compare.
-[X] If the topic comes up, offer employment, residence or shelter. If it doesn't, let the conversation flow naturally.
-[X] Just for today, you're here for the coffee, and Anna's people for the intel. If the job doesn't give you time-off, make some yourself.

"Does he know what this is all about?" you ask as the vehicle gently comes to a halt. For once in your crazy life, you're not in uniform. Rather, Anna had taken an excruciatingly long time to pick out a few 'nondescript' outfits for you. You had settled on a basic 'slacks and polo shirt' that outright screamed off-duty military, much to her annoyance. But at that point you just wanted it done with.

She's dressing him already?! Next thing you know she'll be keeping her things in his quarters. It may be too late for Devin at this rate...

So I just found out what Steel Jeeg is.

I am glad I found out what Steel Jeeg is.

I wish there was more Steel Jeeg.

@LinkOnScepter,

Fun fact: in the original animation for Steel Jeeg, the voice actor was Toru Furuya. AKA Amuro Ray.

It was a bit odd when I first ran into him in SRW Alpha 2, and I kept hearing a real robot pilot's voice shouting Super Robot attack names. (The pilot still angsted a lot, but he did have a semi-decent excuse)

In any case, doesn't seem to be any real deviation in the approach, so I'll try to get something up by the weekend.

I am imagining Amuro Ray actually has the soul of a Super Robot Pilot sleeping inside of him, but he can't let it out cause he's the Grandad of Gundam Pilots.

I would have replied with 'but super robot pilots don't get PTSD,' but then I remembered that Ryouma Nagare did, in fact, get PTSD because of the Shin Getter Robo. :V

But really, in many ways, 0079 is in fact structured like a super robot show, complete with monster ineffective Zeon superweapon of the week. It was Zeta Gundam that really dived into the real robot formula.

I am just going to put out that when Nasu was in a roundtable discussion about SRW (and F/GO) he did suggest to put Char/Amuro/Haman in the Getter Robo.

Just throwing it out there.

(Also, Hideaki Anno wanted to put Char in the EVA Unit 02, and had to be remainded by Terada that only teens can pilot Evangalions).

EDIT: Also Terada mentioned that he thinks Amuro would be a pretty good Mazinger pilot.

How the heck have I just found this quest!? This is amazing!

Please about half way in the middle, and I can't help but feel General A is a member of the West's.

This is fantastic!

Dozle Zabie and the Big Zan were the heroes the Universal Century needed.

I was rereading the story only thread for the umpteenth time when a thought occurred to me about the drones that Tyrannous and the Free brothers use.
@Basarin do the Free Bothers have the capability to build replacement drones as they lose them? If they don't than why are they using them as target practice instead of conserving their numbers?

Also, follow up, how are the Free Brothers sensing the other Kausen, and is there a way we can make a sensor net of some kind to either track them down, or lead them into another ambush?

Hello all, quick announcement.

No, quest isn't quite dead yet.

No, my schedule also isn't really letting up anytime soon. Been meaning to get a post out, but the job's been keeping me on the move, fairly busy, and with not much energy or time to really dedicate to. At least, not enough energy or time that I would be happy publishing that update if that makes sense. I'll still be posting, but it's going to be fairly infrequent until I get some time off. (When that would be, not really sure)

So I'm not going to promise when updates are going to come out, I'm just going to slowly, slowly get them up here. For those of you who continue to follow the quest - thanks! But I'd recommend you treat this as something of a really slow burn.

To answer some questions, though:

@RiyeLink, welcome aboard, but I'm also sorry you're just finding this when there's a dearth of updates. Blame my job and the pesky need to earn a paycheck. :p

To answer your question along with @Anime_Fan35, the Free Brothers can rebuild the drones with just a little effort. It's not dirt cheap, but it's not something that can't be made up for with a raid or three to Earth. As for how they're detecting them, it's not so simple. The Legion stays relatively hidden out of the base that the DFRI made for them, and can stay mobile with their own drop ship. The Kausen emit small signatures that their sensors can normally pick up, but both sides in this conflict have learned to mask them from each other. So they have to find each other the old-fashioned way.

Anyway, that's all I have for now. For those who have this thread bookmarked, updates will come as SV pings them for you.

I hope everyone is well.

A Gamble
15 May, A.D. 2072
Unity Station, Office of B.G. Peters

This sort of business was always going to be a gamble of sorts. Most of the projects all over the shop tend to be. All too likely the stuffed shirts down the hall thought they were sidelining me in a position of no consequence when they shoved me to a research and development department.

Oh, the looks on their faces
now. The look when a gamble with house odds pays off for you.

"...will there be anything else, ma'am?"

"Nothing further, Captain. You're dismissed for the day." Without even acknowledging her aide's departure from the office, Louis Peters skimmed through the various reports that had crossed her desk.

The majority of this is all rather droll, isn't it? Of course it is. Everyone wants to be the first to jump onto the bandwagon, don't they? Project proposals for developing another independent Super Robot - denied. We barely have enough resources for one dedicated project. Plans to restore the satellite laser project - denied, and a note to send to Intelligence at a later date. I know where that line of thinking goes. No thank you. Self-important demands to conduct a site survey of the Super Robot Project at Gasparton - denied, and immediately forwarded to Intelligence. The same story over and over again, all with the same bloody intent behind it all:

The Defense Force Research Institute was becoming far more noticed, and people wanted their hands in it.

Like hell. She knew what would happen when anyone with a hint of political ambition gained a hand in these projects.

Louis Peters sighed as she stared up at a certain memento on her desk. A picture of a group of somber men and women. All with their faces scratched out. All but hers. A younger Captain who the bastards thought they'd broken down into a political tool. All standing before a first generation military shuttle. Her lips curled into a smirk. Oh, the men and women in their ivory towers certainly paid for their hubris. They'd all had their hands in so many projects, all wanting to control the world behind the scenes. All with some indirect control over weapons systems and political developments.

They never counted on a single woman bringing it all down for them, did they?

Now there was a system in place. The Earth Union was not a perfect system, not by any means. Especially when it could still miss monsters like George Sheol. But it did far, far better than pre-Unification for all its faults. She would not let anyone derail what she'd fought to put into place.

Her eyes fell onto another picture. The slain remnant of the kaiju at Naval Base San Diego, even with the unfortunate mess over the carrier. A triumphant symbol of the Earth Union's power standing over its destroyed foe.

B.G. Peters' hands immediately signed off on the next monthly budget for the DFRI. The remnants of the old powers might noticed the potential the Super Robots represented, but it was far too late for them to change course.

So.

Taking the GRE, completing my master's thesis (which is still technically ongoing) and trying to keep up with my job left very little room for questing time.

Still here. Still wanting to run and finish this. And still horribly busy, but not as horribly busy as before.

So for now, have a quick side story while I finally get things together and remember the methods to my madness, at least for the folks who are willing to pick this back up. It's been awhile since I wrote for this, so do bear with me.

Hey I'm just glad you're back.

Plus I have no right to judge.

I brought my own Quest back from the dead a bit ago.
