Super Robot Quest

Publicly, he's against us.
Privately, he's... uhh... what.

Yep. My thoughts exactly.
What are we supposed to do with all these mixed signals?

Man, the blue-bloods of Third Air must have more clout than we thought. A General that would generally be in our corner is being forced to bash us publically because of political bullshit, which will probably end up getting people killed down the line.
We need to help the General clean-house ASAP.

"Well, I do." Armistead rolls his eyes. "You'd think it'd be the Navy that's hidebound to tradition, but no. The Air Defense Force, they're feeling the most threatened by what you're doing." You say nothing, so he takes that as his cue to keep talking. "Don't get me wrong. We needed a Super Robot, which is why I gave Louis my support to begin with. But…" Here, his jovial nature fades for a moment. "It's not so simple."

If he's actually telling the truth then it may be that bad. Peter's has never given us any indication that there's more to the dude.

Best we can do is probably pass this mess to the IS, while telling them he knows about our contacts there. This is their sought of problem.

...Huunh.
Soo that's the game he's playing...Not the answer I expected frankly. Makes me wonder how hidebound the EUDF can be as a whole...I think I can see the issue-like, even now, the 'Red Baron' is still the kind of thing we think of when we think 'Ace Pilot', right? And that hasn't changed...Problem is...
It's self-reliance, it's being better and tougher then the guy you run into.
Or in other words, it's the sort of mentality that plays very very well into the Seperatists and their philosophy.
And that's why Armistead's hands are tied, in effect.
So how to get around this?
Well, one thought is to play into the 'public' conflict and basically do as little as possible to help the air-force while Armistead opposes us-we have a reason to do so- Armistead being a pig-head, but it ALSO will help to keep sweet toys/tech out of the Westphalian's hands, and force them to at-significant cost shop with foreigners like Sheol or Kausen.

The Air Defense Force, they're feeling the most threatened by what you're doing."

The conspiracy deepens.

So unofficially while this thing still has a few seconds of battery life, I

The device lasts surprisingly a short time, despite this not being a problem in other situations.

I have a rotten house that needs cleaning out.

HINT HINT HINT!

Clearly, there's more than meets the eye. Still, when in doubt, apply total war protocol. Or punch them in the face once they show their face, which they will do so, following SR conventions.

Peter's has never given us any indication that there's more to the dude.

In before she's actually the bad guy (gal).

It seems that Armistead is alleging that the Air Force is deeply compromised by Westphalians separatists and he put on quite a show to convince Devin. Whether its true or not (and if he is acting or not) we already seen some warning signs when looked into the Air Force, so the suggestion to turn the baleful eye of IS towards the Air force is a sound suggestion anyhow.

(Unless they are also partly compromised and we need to use our own resources to investigate this?

Might be that he's Westphallan himself, but with the success of the Super Robot project he's seeing where the wind is blowing and has decided to sell out his co conspirators while keeping his own hands relatively clean?

Possibly, but double agents tend to not cover themselves in glory, I'd think it's better for him to stick to his guns rather than abandon his side at the first sign of trouble.

It's suspicious and bears investigation anyhow.

That's still a problem in the future? Shame. Hopefully Mr. Carson can help Devin with that, even if some minor side-effects are caused.
If I remember a bit of trivia correctly, when Pickard appeared on Star Trek, people were asking something similar to: "Haven't they they fixed hair loss in the Super-Advanced Fictional Future?" The reply was: "The Super-Advanced Fictional Future is so Super-Advanced, that they decided such concerns are silly".

Lel, Peters knows everything.
I believe Devin writes those reports himself.

Does the "E" stand for Enhanced?
"E" stands for "Eventually, we'll see it in action, too".

The White Noise Generator sputters, then dies, the background noise prickling at your senses slowly fading away. Without a word, Armistead sketches a wave at you before leaving.

what the hell was that?
Marvelous! I was expecting something along these lines, but this twist was much twist-ier than I imagined. The execution, the setup, and all.

The Air Defense Force, they're feeling the most threatened by what you're doing.
Crazy speculation: Air Force had a Super Soldier project in the plans, but the Super Robot wrecked all their ambitions and multi-million dollar investments.

@Basarin Late question for you

This just occurred to me.

I don't expect this to change anything but wasn't the v-33 that the Beowulf combines with able to attack by itself?

Because I only remember it attacking when it was doing the Gale formation.
It did not attack at any time after we changed to the Timberwolf.

Their loss. Nothing stops from having a super-soldier piloting a super-robot! OF course, better be sure to have multiple kill-switches to avoid unpleasant surprises.

Star Trek was weird yep. The new movies were way too serious though.

You're absolutely right. The reason I didn't include it back in that fight was because its damage would have been automatically blocked no matter if it succeeded the roll or not (the Dragon had damage reduction of -1 HP). The only difference it would have made was that there would have been narrative notes about rounds from the Falcon ricocheting off of the scales.

I probably could have factored it in with the Dragonfly, but by then the V-33 had withdrawn from the fight. *shrug* Still, good eye.

Any updates are likely to come in tomorrow, with the possibility of a side-story write in tonight.

So long story short: Armistead (seemingly) wants to help us, but the damn Air Force is filled with a bunch of Old Money bastards (and possibly traitors) who feel threatened by what we're doing.

While not a big problem for us right now, they have enough clout that Armistead can't officially sanction us even if he wants to. So, unofficially, he's asking us for help.

Alternately, he's actually good at the political game and is saying all this to get the heat off of us.

Either way, it doesn't directly change our behavior. Be cautious, investigate, and try not to buy more trouble than we can afford.

Yeah, it's unlikely his hands are clean either, since "a lot of the Air Force is subverted but me, your greatest high ranking detractor, is secretly on your side" is a little thin, because why aren't the actual Westphalians in the force doing more mudslinging then?

It doesn't add up.

I mean, we don't exactly know if there are Westphalian infiltrators. It certainly a possibility, based on the description of those less than pleased with us (who fit the the rich Old World Fat Cat label). It's also possible that parts of the air force are just extremely negligent and hate us for muscling in on their turf. We'll find out soon enough, but I don't think we should jump to conclusions without more info. However, this is a Super Robot Quest....so be prepared for any eventuality, especially the Chuuni ones.
