Super Robot Quest

@veekie, recall that the Combined form and the Core form have separate upgrade slots. And that the Core gets an extra slot from the Anti-Grav treatment.

Sort of why I wanna get K-circuit plus Zirvetium on the Combined form, then switch over to both Kaiju upgrades plus the shield for the Core unit.

I've also only realized now that the Energy Shard research was the first step to securing a power source for our Super.

The key to getting it online was a power source that is ultra-small, ultra-light, and has incredible energy density.

Those 3 traits are something many successful mecha have, like:
1) Minovsky reactors (small-scale energy source that is also free ECM)
2) Sakuradite reactors/batteries (same, but can be highly explosive)
3) GN Drives (same but gives free Flight options)
4) Photonic Energy "reactor" (bullshit levels of power output, but requires rare material)
5) Tronium Engine (same, but requires rare ALIEN material)

Nuclear reactors at this stage can possibly provide just enough power... but we're not making skyscraper-high Jaegers here. We'll have to refine methods for processing E-Shard Batteries in the future.

What if we add even more K Circuits and antigrav? How fast can it get?!
For Science!

Practically mandatory actually. Reactor output gates every serious mecha. Energy density is directly linked to operational mass.

Okay, so, looking at our sheet, I've got a pretty good idea of what we want from it.

Build Order 1.0
Core Unit:
Beowulf (1 RP--existing Prototype, may or may not have a nascent HEART OF JUSTICE)
Upgrade Package:
K-Suit (Pilot Augmentation - 4 RP) - Non-Slot Upgrade: Beowulf has +1 Action in battle, Has 1 Free Re-Roll
Anti-Gravity Treatment (2 RP) - Non-Slot Upgrade: Beowulf Gains +6 HP, Beowulf gains a 1 RP discount on a single upgrade, Beowulf gains 1 Upgrade Slot
K-Scale (2 RP) - 1 Upgrade Slot: Beowulf may roll to reduce incoming damage by 1, once per Combat Turn (2d6, Threshold 5-6)
K-Circuits (3 RP) - 2 Upgrade Slots: Beowulf's Baseline Strike now deals +2 HP Damage
Final Price of Core Unit: 12 RP
Attached Configuration Pack: Timberwolf Formation (3 RP)
Attached Finisher: Arc Blade
Combination Upgrades:
Enhanced K-Scale: (1 RP) - 1 Upgrade Slot: Beowulf's K-Scale Reinforcement can be performed twice per Combat Turn
Heavy Zirvitium Armor (5 RP) - 1 Upgrade Slot: Reduces all incoming damage by 1 HP, Reduces damage of incoming Kaus Energy Attacks by an additional 1 HP
Attached Configuration Pack: Foxhound Formation (2 RP)
Attached Finisher: Arc Cannon
Combination Upgrades:
Zirvitium Armor: (2 RP) - 1 Upgrade Slot: Reduces the first instance of damage per Combat Turn by 1 HP, Reduces damage of incoming Kaus Energy Attacks by an additional 1 HP
Charged Cannon (2 RP) - 1 Upgrade Slot: May Roll 2d6 (Threshold 5-6) once per Combat Turn, on success, roll 2d6 (Threshold 4-6) to Shock enemy (Reduce their next action by 1d6)
Final Super Robot Cost: 27 RP

Like I said, going full ham here, but it gets us a single, highly flexible Super Robot given the technology we currently have. Considerations that I'm keeping in mind for alterations are getting the Charge Cannon in somewhere (It's not listed for whatever reason), and taking into account whatever we learn from the Mysterious Device in the incoming interlude.

I envision the Timberwolf Formation as being the front line fighter--the slugger, the heavyweight boxer who walks in and beats the shit out of you, not giving a damn about how you retaliate. The Foxhound Formation meanwhile is all about pursuit, harrying, and keeping up with a jerk who wants to play keep away, all while plinking away at them systematically.

This is supported by the Core Unit receiving the maximum K-Circuitry investment possible, which carries over to the Combination Forms--the Timberwolf hits like a train, and the Foxhound's harrying attacks are something you don't dare ignore.

With the technology base that we have now, this is the best Super Robot candidate we can make. It's flexible, it can handle all manner of threats--and it should hold the line at least until we can get more technology and greater insights to fuel further development. Seriously, it's something like two or three times stronger than the mech we fielded against Bandit at the Grand Coulee.

The remaining RP can be spent either getting another Core Unit online, or tweaking the Foxhound's upgrade slots--which I'm not completely happy with, but are serving as placeholders at least.

Zirvitium Armor: (2 RP) - 1 Upgrade Slot: Reduces the first instance of damage per Combat Turn by 1 HP,

Dual pilot option for extra actions are a better use I think, than either armor adds
Its very hard to top extra actions for DPS when you use K Circuits and Arc Blade due to the sheer Strike power. Especially for clearing fodder before they chip you to death

I don't think we have enough mechs to justify a dual-pilot option unfortunately, and I'm trying to stick to stuff that we can roll out right now.

But as mentioned, a lot depends on what we're getting in the interludes. Going with a two-unit Combination form would justify setting up the Concert, but at the moment, I'm more concerned about meeting our obligations and having a second Core Unit rolled out by the end of year.

Like our boss asked us to.

I'm not sure she'd appreciate just one Core Unit that has a manned Combination Part.

Remember, our responsibility is covering the entire world. We can't do that with just one functional machine--no matter how mighty it is. We are the Earth Union's Official Super Robot Division, and that means we need to be able to respond on multiple fronts in a time of exigency.

So I'd much rather a single strong robot and a functioning Core that's ready for expansion with some more research over a single strong robot that gets an extra attack per round, because we can roll out that Core Unit in a time of exigency to at least try to hold a line.

Well, it's a first draft at any rate.

I can reassess once the interludes come through.

modified to configure into a Jackal, an engineering truck, and a sports car, respectively

Is the sports car a new unit? Sounds cool. Speaking of: What about that car unit as a Core choice?

'll be honest, it's not exactly clean, but I'm terrible at organizing things...so this will have to do. I fully expect everyone to declare from the rooftops just how messy this document is.

Have you considered a gdoc? Too bad we don't have bio-mech yet.

GX-90C Pilum Class (pending Name, default stats)

Clearly this one should be "Red Rider", which eventually evolves into "Red Baron", to take a dig at Westphalians.

CR-05 Centurion-class (pending Name, default stats)

Then what about Praetor? Or Praetorian?

Clearly, if we're going to keep with the hero theme we need to name it after the King of Heroes!

Gilgamesh

Time for all enemies to kneel.

Oh noes, here's the fanwank I feared.

Combine Both the Shepard and the Falcon...

To give the mech flying capabilities and thus make it easier to deploy anywhere. Of course, production models will be either inferior, or superior and used against us at some point.

Yeah, I'm thinking going full ham on Beowulf, and splitting the rest depending on what the interludes give us.

Yes, using a magical girl as a power source could be cool if we go with the Grimderp Route.

Defense is a little iffier, but it'd basically fight like a tornado. Blast in, chop it all up and then activate Finisher.
E: Definitely painted red

IT needs to be named Ares. Anubis is cool, but like ZoE, it risks the chance of the quest dying and being forgotten after two chapters.

Something something "a figure that huge has no right to move that fast" something.

I heard that line somewhere...

Core Unit: Beowulf (1 RP--existing Prototype, may or may not have a nascent HEART OF JUSTICE)

Hopefully we can test it against a Kaiju. It definitively needs to fly and do an orbital piledriver.

considering how much RP we now have. We should consider going all out on the Super Robot and using what's left on the Steed formation and whatever else is left that we can afford. I still want that Steed formation since it will probably supplement the Phalanx formation.

our cor units need a short visual description.

Fair enough on the Perseus, the Centurion and the Steed. I've more or less abstracted how they shift because they haven't really taken center stage like the Beowulf has.

The Beowulf, on the other hand...well, there's an actual picture! :p

@Alectai

That looks sound. In this case, I'll rule that any attempt to merge both Combine Units with the Core will be a regular Turn project you can pursue (especially since you're using components you're very familiar with by now).

What about that car unit as a Core choice?

Nope. As much leeway as you get, you don't have that much. Everything else you've worked with has the benefit of at least being a military vehicle. The sports car was specifically Breakneck's choice.

Interlude likely to come at end of day.

Yeah. Speaking of, I think we ought to change this name to something Romananic or Greek to fit more with the others.

By the way, what happened with the Coyote? Wasn't it an one-off prototype? How did it become a mass-produced vehicle? Is it any good to us?

Does that mean we won't be able to make it as part of our incomign super-robot production?

Speaking of: How will construction of additional models/upgrades work in the future? Will we have to spend resource points to update them, or will these be automatic?

The sports car was specifically Breakneck's choice.

Shame, we could have pulled off crazy stuff with that one...

Transforming submarines and bombers, when?

Bruticus is a Decepticon Combiner. Rather prominently featured in the Fall of Cybertron videogame.

See here. It's quite nifty.
My vision was:
Timberwolf Formation as the core unit/torso+head.
Pilum as one arm (BIG SCARY HAND)
V-33/TMU as another arm (GUNS)
Centurion as one leg (ARMOR AND ANOTHER GUN)
Phalanx as the other leg (MORE ARMOR AND GUN)

End result is a big, tough mech that has a giant fiery claw-hand on one arm, a pile of guns on the other, and two rotor-blade-shields.

Ah now I remember. I didn't know he was in the Fall of Cybertron Video game. I haven't played that game so I didn't make the connection. I more remember him from the G1 Version of the franchise but since that was so long ago I completely forgot about him until I looked him up on google. Thanks for the info and link boss.

The Coyote is the non modified version. It cannot configure. The Jackal takes the Coyote's chassis and is slowly being distributed among the wider EUDF.

You're not producing it for everyone; you're the ones who disseminated the plans to the wider EUDF. So far, it's had very positive reception (see the previous world report).

Does that mean we won't be able to make it as part of our incomign super-robot production?

The plan did not specifically call to try merging them as an experimental option. If you want to try, sure. It'll take some additional RP, and I will be making rolls to see what the end result is, but you can try doing it during the production phase. .

So we're going to have the Beowulf be the base core units of our small SR class for now it looks like, and it seems like it's going to be an all rounder with a focus on agility and movement and just the base combination with the Shepherd and the TMU into the Timberwolf and Foxhound.

Maybe we should focus on one base super robot chassis for each weight class, like having the Beowulf be the base unit that all combinations stem from for our more lightweight robots, Perseus for middleweight and the probably the super big Tank/Artillery mecha that we'll inevitably one day make for heavyweight.

Also since we've made the Beowulf focused on Agility and the Perseus focused on defense maybe we can make our tank/artillery mech super offensive with massive guns.

Since it seems like we'll be better off just making single pilot robots it looks like we'll have to put off the psychic theater for now, probably until we iron out a couple different base units of super robot and then have them all combine together into a mega robot which will then use our pegasus as a giant gun and defeat the big bad.

Might be worth mentioning that given how mecha anime usually go it's likely that we'll end up having to go to space so it might be worth outfitting all or our mechs with void capable equipment.
