Actually based on his dialogue? 70% certain his compatibility list MUST be based on descent from their royal line.Honestly I'm more interested in studying whatever science he can provide us with than having him be bonded to anyone. I'd advise being incredibly cautious with going along with anything that is offered and making sure to get all of the facts and risks before agreeing to anything.
Judging by the previous interlude about Reggie and how he's outlining his goals it's obvious that he's only considering helping us so that we can in turn help him with his problems, and that means that he has no loyalty to us. If the Westphalians had picked him up he may have just as well chosen one of them to "empower".
One thing to consider is that even if we help him get back to Varulne and save his people they may not be too friendly. He specifically mentioned that they were great warriors and orators and that they were ruled by a prince. That to me screams of a class system ruled by elite noble "champions" who hoard all the tech and historically that kind of nation isn't really the best at external diplomacy.
Crazy speculation: somebody drops the box (this one or any next one) into a vat of K-tissue."No, no," you shake your head, "I get that." You gesture towards the data box holding the A.I. personality, one that is still slumbering and not properly 'online' so to speak. "But it's a little weird to not just see them floating around the campus like they do."
"Well, he's going to have to be linked directly to one of the Mecha," Katarina explains. "He...won't exactly have an avatar form like we do. His identity is going to be tied directly to whichever he is installed into. Kind of like the Kausen if you think about it."
... And the speakers are playing blues. Or jazz.
But isn't a Beautiful Foreing Prince one of the typical Teenage Romance Fantasies? Don't girls (usually) dream of being/becoming/being treated like a princess? He mentioned prince so I'm thinking more Kame Rider personally.
Like so.I.e. the crash was probably centuries ago and our pilot is a lost 3/4 human space princess
On a somewhat unrelated tangent, what's up with Carlson playing nothing but metal in his labs? If he never tried any other music genre, it would be completely uncientific. Is he secretly a metalhead (or whatever the proper term is)? Even then, I did personally know a metalhead, who had a tremendous appreciacion for all kinds of music, even some ridiculous genres. Or is his staff still fighting over what to play, and metal is the only compromise they all can agree on?
I'd like to also point out that we still don't have a robot that can transform into a flight capable form.
You blink as you consider that thought. "Are you saying we are creating our own Kausen?" you ask incredulously.
"Reality has jumped the shark!" Max declares in frustration as she stomps towards the nearby computer terminal.
I'll bet you are, you think grimly. There's a lot about this you're not getting the warm and fuzzy over.

She's not glad about having made 1d4 physicians cry this time?

"That said, I am strongly recommending that come our first effort to create or retrofit a Super Robot, we install him directly in. He can only be of a great help."
Put the AI in a Steed. Then its basically a pilot.I have moral objections to sticking an AI that is so close to human into a war machine. Maybe instead we just build him a smaller more human like avatar and make it so he wares or pilots the super robot. I don't want to make a person and force them into being a soldier. I think that that kind of thing must be a personal choice.

Step one of creating an AI: Ensure that by design it will enjoy its jobNot this shit again...
This is a quest based in a good Super Robot show. The AI/s will totally be okay to be warriors of the human race, and will not complain about doing so. Why waste time whining about social issues when there's rocket-punching to be done?
Besides, the other AIs so far have been doing fine with little issue.
Beowulf (seriously, it needs a better Roman-themed name) will gladly step up to fight for humanity instead of ranting about how "he shouldn't run away".
Any other good mythological hero names we can use? The Union is suppose to be international so would love to include other myths from various cultures from all over. Why roman?
The whole theme was international, mythical heroes for various lines for our flagship, Core Units.
Beowulf was first, Perseus was second.
The dropship is called the Pegasus because that's the first mythical mount we could come up with. I'd probably be okay with a second one being the Sleipnir.

Nobunaga (Totally counts because of the amount of time after he died in this quest)
If we want a serious ranged unit I would recommend turning a self-propelled artillery vehicle into a mecha. If we do a Nobunaga it has to be our ranged specialist unit with the nickname "Nobunagun".
@Massgamer
As Max found out, anti-gravity doesn't really do the whole 'float above the ground' deal that sci-fi tends to see it as. At least, not the version you and the Legion have. It works more to lower the weight of existing metal.
Could you push it that way? Sure. But you'll have to invest effort to replicating that specific result.
