Starfleet Design Bureau

This is inaccurate
The quotation that was provided otherwise was that we were permitted to omit them
Not that they werent wanted, or needed

This is freaking Starfleet; Science is always wanted
Their capacity to produce miracles out of their backside is based on their Science capabilities
Megascale lifeforms and negative space wedgies are science issues, not based on your killiness

It's not inaccurate. When they say may omit X but X(science), Y(engineering), and Z(tactical) are your options their preference for Y and Z is clear.

You don't have to yell.
Sincere apologies, I let myself get too passionate and lost perspective. No offense was meant.

I was only concerned that these points were being overlooked, and I'm concerned that we'll lose out on the advantages we would later reap because of the sacrifices we made when designing the warp 8 drive, that being that our fleet could easily make the transition to warp 9 drives. If we design ships that are amenable to upgrades, then we can build up some numbers, deter potential adversaries and reinforce our interior.

Definitely. It is an interesting thought though, of potentially building a fleet tender/mobile repair cruiser, with a massive shuttlebay and 2 tandem deflectors offering the same performance as a full size one. Potentially very expensive, but could be extremely valuable. If it had full warp speed, it could swoop in after a battle has taken place and salvage heavily damaged ships, reduce the number we have to scuttle post-action.

In other notes, it sounds like we already have enough ships with Science and Engineering scores to do those jobs in general, and any labs or workshops we might include should be ones with specific focuses. Things like Dilithium prospecting are still valuable, but raw Science score isn't considered a priority.
No we dont

Selachiis dont even have a Science rating, and they're all retired in 2245
Newtons are Science D, which is bad even for a light cruiser
Archers are Science D, which is bad for a light cruiser
Saladins are Science C-, which is subpar for a light cruiser
Excaliburs are C-, which is subpar for a heavy cruiser

Most of those classes are good at Engineering, mind, but their Science is trash

The science ships?
Keas are Science S, which is great, but we have just 9 left after the war, and we dont get any more until they retire
Attenboroughs are Science A+, which is very very good, but they are very specialized for biosciences, and we built just 6 of them in a century, with an additional four Atwaters as a spinoff for geophysics

Theres a need for more Science in the fleet
And its one of the ways to get Starfleet Procurement to buy more Federations

I've been convinced that this one fits the design brief better.

I like the flight deck and the stated helpfulness in things like evacuation and disastor relief. Feel like it would help give more reason for the ship and there's more then just enemies that you might want to evacuate from. Also just really want the flight deck and see how it'll go.

Frankly I was hoping we would get the option of an oversized deflector to help deal with extra fast speeds, given we got the option for extra large warp core.

The flight deck is honestly a cool option, that i might have picked if our primary goal was pure engineering. But we went command deck, fast cruise. While I agree sprint is not something we should focus on, it's not something we should deliberately gimp either.
