The price, mind you, is equal to the benefit. You're utterly incapable of distinguishing between friend or foe, and continue attacking until you run out of gas, then you're basically bedridden for a year afterwards.

The year of recovery part is an exaggeration, IIRC it was stated as a couple of months at most. The rest is correct, though.

Speaking of berserks, probably better to just go with that myself than spend however long digging for Flygja and Sight stuff in the NQ thread... sigh

Should be mentioned that in NQ, "Berserk" (separate from Berserkergang) is more of an always-on combat intuition where your brain constantly tells you how to kill everyone around you. Physical aspects of berserking are more of a factor of shape shifting, which can be accomplished through high stats/training, or can be aided by a shapecrafter. Also, a shapecrafter can help you turn your Frenzy off and on again.

@I.F. Ister would someone with Berserker be assumed to have enough Fasts to store their Frenzy when not in use? Or is that whole mechanic being abstracted here?

Fahall 'Bloody Breeze' Ulfgarsson af Istlod
I'm afraid that I may have to largely veto this proposal, as I think that this character would have stayed and fought in Gotland and thus have died.

0~0~0

Also, @ArcanaVitae , I'm going to have to veto Ake's Speech Kunna as it would just amount to being good at talking. Changing it to 'Social 1' or what have you would solve it, but that's up to you.

I don't think Berserk quite fits right for what I want. I want something in between Berserk and being a good fighter, less power less consequences.

Sure, let's do cousins, if you're okay with having a family that mostly died at Gotland. Lemme think about what I'd like to replace to put Giant Blood back in.
Sounds good! Farming clan is up and running.
Huh. Farming clan with lots of dead family to go around? You two up for a third cousin in mourning?

Like, at that point there's clearly some sort of bloodline in there, even if we haven't necessarily awoken it just yet.

Is it that Berserk is too much, or is it just the full-on Berserkergang that's the issue? Standard Berserks (something you generally get via shapecrafting) tend to have violence on the mind by default, but they're fully capable of having normal lives.

Is there a list of martial styles somewhere? I don't know them and it seems like important information. I thought this was free form but it seems like there is some set list of ability to pick form somewhere I didn't see.
There's Berserkergang and the Varangian Guard one based on Constantinople's harbor chain. Also, a generic one everyone can learn (forgot the name). Other than that Martial Styles are either developed by a 'strong' person or the core 'inheritance' of a Vikingr band. Some tend to be based on landmarks and can only be learned there.

The one everyone learns is Glima (which is wrestling). I suspect that some skill with it is assumed (since all Norsemen and Norsewomen have a bit of it), but you could still grab it as something you focused on with PT, I'm sure.

Okay, Can someone tell me what these do, everyone is name droping stuff but don't actually say what they do, so it means nothing to me.

Glima is superpowered wrestling...it's not very complicated. Berserkergang, as mentioned, sends you into a blood rage where you're very powerful but has a bunch of downsides. I don't think we ever actually got a good comprehensive rundown on any of the others that would be available to PCs here...we knew the one Halla had, but that was a bloodline thing and none of us are her relatives, and we got stuff on a few other local to her area, but that was far away from Gotland.

So...we're pretty much making things up here.

EDIT: Thinking about it, we did get some stuff on Sword Stepping, which is basically a Zen Archery 'one with the weapon' sort of thing...but that's most of what we got.

Someone might have Ash Bone Dance? But that would require you to burn your bones black which isn't usually survivable if you're not of Clan Volsung...

@I.F. Ister

Can I just get what I want for my character with the stuff I have given them? The lack of clear and concise infomation is driving me up the wall and I just want to get this over with.

[X] Gudrun Ravensight, a seeresss
[X] Addling Coalbelch, a smith

Bjorn Drakeslayer
1 Pt Giant's Blooded
1 Pt Archery
1 Pt Stealth
Great in size, Bjorn is an otherwise normal looking norseman with dark hair and blue eyes. He has loved the bow since childhood, admiring it's precision along with the skill and power required to wield it. He wields it as his main weapon and the tool of his trade. Bjorn is a hunter and made his living by selling the many pelts and bits of the beasts he hunted.

Bjorn gained his kenning in a childhood act of wanton duck slaughter as he had heard that pillows made from their feathers were extremely comfortable.

Bjorn was a recluse by both personal choice and necessity, his choice of weapon made him a target of much derision and his choice of occupation meant that he spent large amounts of time alone in forests. Both made for poor social skills and few marriage prospects. Though Bjorn wishes for a wife he understands that he is unlikely to gain one.

@I.F. Ister Is this alright or is it too unnorsely?

The reason for that is that in NQ there is no collated list of tricks or techniques or anything (attacks that use odrstirr/qi). Even simple tricks have different names based on who you learned it from. People create tricks all the time, they're limited to your imagination and energy reserves.
There are combat tricks and there are tricks for everyday life. Stuff for helping to build ships to negotiating deals.

You make it up as you go. As long as you can back up your words with deeds the Norse Cultivator (which is anyone not a thrall) doesn't care all too much.
