Uh, to be very clear on this point because it is kinda important... Do we need runestones only for those whose bodies cannot be recovered, or also for those whose bodies are recovered for a proper funeral? Your exact words here are ambiguous: "you do need a runestone, yes," but in which cases?
The purpose of a runestone is to record the existence of a person--ensuring their ordstirr exists for all time. A grave is not enough.
@I.F. Ister there is apparently confusion. Can Galti come back again, or does his body being burned mean its over for good? And I assume we burned the sea monster as well, yeah?
Galti can come back as long as he lacks a runestone--and even that's a little bit iffy, depending on circumstances around inheritance and the like. The only way to be sure that he cannot is to;
1. Dismember the body
2. Burn each part of the body separately
3. Scatter half the ashes into the sea, so that the currents take it away. Scatter the rest into the winds.
4. Make a sacrifice to the Gods, spirits, and all other beings that the ashes never manage to recombine

Wow, if something kills us all then we're going to be a blight on this region for centuries.

To clarify on this, a body might muscle-memory its way into attempting to break into its former house and, if it finds occupants treating it like their own home, then violence will likely ensue.

That sort of instance results in a significantly weaker undead, but dying in your sleep is no fun no matter who you are

Ah! Galti had no house, so that's good, I guess.

What the hell happened that y'all can get a smelter!?!?!?

Stone. We know how to make one, we just needed stone to do it. We now have stone, so if we use it for that...

Smelter is the right call.

We already have trenches, throw a wooden palisade directly on the interior edge of the trenches(effectively raises the height of the wall by depth of the trench from an attackers perspective) and we'll be fine for a year or two.

I think we should meet the next major threat in the field anyway, letting those Goliaths get that close to our ships and communal infrastructure when we didn't have a clear grasp on their range was a mistake in retrospect.

I'm doing some runestone stuff with Moli next turn would y'all be willing to bring more stone than necessary? It's for condoning off a sea threat from the Main Settlement.

Okay… hear me out… the purpose of a runestone is to record someone's existence. Maybe it is the permanent recording that is important, not the stone… could Torgarr have… a runefield? The very land carved to permanently remember his full (mostly off-screen) life, giving heart and noble sacrifice?

In theory, I think it could be done. In practice, it would lack the permanency of stone.

Gotcha, well, time to up Farming to make the changes I make to land as permanent as stone... maybe, maybe later.

The right kind of tree could be cool.

As it grows, there will be more and more wood made available for future generations of Clan Blomtanja.

It would definitely require maintenance that would need to be forever, would probably want to go with some sort of hereditary oath or priesthood so it could withstand the centuries.

Yeah, my initial thought was the wall because the Jarl asked for it and we needed it for shelter if the Main Hall was not stone. But now that he does not care and we were able to defend our main camp, it has dropped in priority. I was the one( the only one I believe) who put forth using it to build the wall these last few hours, so I do not think it really needs a vote.

Alright, cool. Runestones and Smelter it is. I do think we should do a wall eventually, but when we have more stone.

And more stone will presumably require a second expedition to the Quarry. Good luck with that, I'm taking a break from back to back expeditions this winter to get some livestock, hopefully Bjarnesson or one of the other trappers will be interested in helping me catch some Cow-Bats to keep on my land.

Maybe, maybe. Field specifically for Torgarr though because, this way, he can keep fulfilling his kenning until the end of time. Bonus points, if we're driven from the land and stop maintaining the runefield, he rises to fuck up whoever killed us!

@I.F. Ister updated my actions for this season to account for the effects of my Fylgja.

By the way, livestock has been acquired by the Western Expedition. We have egging-frogs as a chicken replacement.

However, they are a pain in the arse to raise and care for:
"The egging-frogs refuse to egg if their skin is too dry and require regular moisturization as their definition of 'too dry' is a higher moistness than the Jungle brings with it. They must be moistened from front to back and always in one direction, else their skin grow irritated by the back-and-forth motions and make them refuse to egg.

Those are just some examples of what taking care of the egging-frogs requires."

I love them and will have 1 million of them and they will live in/near the coral pond.

Damn, good thing Liv's working on that spring, it'll come in handy with keeping these things happy and productive. Shame I died, I was going to get some fences set up for livestock this Season.
