There's no doubt in your mind that, if you refuse to fight him here, he'll slaughter the drunken Team Shale with little difficulty. Why oh why did they have to get drunk in the middle of a battle?!
Talk about Dwarves being in the uncanny valley. An ant or robot wouldn't make such a silly mistake!
---
Like a cat playing with its prey, he'll start out the fight by holding back.

Won't he know we are a Berserk ourselves? Could even arrogance be faked?

---

I dunno about you guys, but if we're fighting this guy I think we should be burning Orthsirr for as much advantage as possible. We should budget about 200 Orthsirr a round or more.

---

Hey Blackhand,

People figuring out I'm a Berserk is sometimes annoying in battle. Is there a way I can hide that fact, at least before the first blows?

In theory, yes. We can't doublethink ourself into not doing anything though.

We're spending a whole crap load of Orthstirr this turn, like, 156 not counting any defenses except for the Contested Movement. Spending more may not even be useful. But I agree in general, we shouldn't be cheap here.

'Yes, but you'll lack the benefits Frenzy provide, as well as making it harder to access over all. You can seal fasts and, I assume, pockets, which completely closes off whatever is inside.'

No, what I mean is, is a fast some sort of specialized pocket or is it a different thing all together. Could we upgrade our pockets into fasts or is it from a different tech tree all together.

I was just wondering about the fact that he's part of Heljarskinn's Hird. Unfortunately my sleeping times is during double-update times.

We're about to find out why fighting a real Berserk sucks.

And why powerlevels isn't just combat dice.

Oh boy.

Hopefully we don't have to 1v1 him.

Might have to get my big brain on, hopefully I still have some gas in the tank.

I bet he's going to Hooknail away Sagaseeker, it's perfectly suited for it.

The Dorfs are too drunk to help, so a 1v1 without Sagaseeker is pretty much a 'welp get fucked' situation.

One does not become an Ironbrother with a mere 8 years of experience.

Hopefully Halla's not dead.

"Is that 'Punching Up' I see?" Hooknails laughs, mist pouring from his mouth with every breath. You stumble on the spot, eyes wide as your limbs gain streamers of wind. "Surprised I know it, are you?"

"A little," you're forced to admit as he laughs again. A quick Blink of the Mind's Eye reveals that no glamour obscures or obfuscates your senses.

"Seidr too? Man, you're just full of surprises, aren't you?" He snaps his fingers and sparks fly as hook scrapes against hook. "This will be an educational fight, I feel."

"For one of us, yeah."

"Feisty!" The smile fades as he sighs. "But as much as I appreciate some pre-battle banter," death flashes in his gaze, "it's better that we start this sooner rather than later. I wouldn't want to deprive any Ducklings of their schooling."

And so the battle begins.

The rocks beneath your feet crack and you fling yourself into the air. Crimson wings snap out from your back as you soar into a breakneck-fast dive. Lightning crackles across the purring Sagaseeker as orthstirr coats it in killing power. Feathers sprout from the atgeir as your odr adds itself to the mix.

"Odr too?" Your blood turns to ice as Hooknails smirks. "I was planning on playing with my food, but..." A quartet of ghostly spears rise from his back, "alas, it was not to be."

The spears flash out faster than any arrow can fly. The wind howls and screams its agony as the spears race to intercept your after-image laden attack.
(2Fold Honed Trick Attack #1: 128+5=133 vs Honed+Reinforced Spear Guard #1: 124+15=139, 2Fold #2: 142+5=147 vs Spear Guard #1, Again: 129+15=144. 2Fold #2: 147 vs Spear Guard #2: 118+15=133. 1 Slips Through!)
The first spear crushes the first strike to dust, but the second Flashfire Cleave destroys both the first Spear Guard and the second.

But even as you continue your lightning-fast descent, the two spears not dedicated to defense come into play as afterimages fall off their black, ghostly forms. Orthstirr runs along the edge of the ghostly blades and shaves off a thin layer of power.
(3Fold Sharpened Spear Attack #1: 130+9=139 vs Honed+Reinforced Defense #1: 114+9=123. 3Fold Spear #2: 98+9=117 vs Honed+Reinforced Defense #2: 68+9=77. 3Fold Spear #3: 103+9=112 vs Honed+Reinforced Defense #3: 46+9=55. Attacker Wins All! Layers Stripped! Armor Pierced! Frenzy Broken! 5 Endurance Damage!)
You make an imprint on the wall, that's how hard you hit it. Bones creak as you collapse to the floor, blood pooling beneath your damaged body.

'I'm so sorry, Halla. I should have told you to run.'

"It's fine," you grit out through clenched teeth as you rise to shaky legs. It's not fine and both of you know that, but there's little either of you can do about it now.

That second offensive spear comes hurtling your way, afterimages streaking off its form.

Hooknails smirks as he casually strolls your way. "Just as you have Punching Up..." The smirk turns bloody. "I have Punching Down."

The situation is dire, to say the least. Hooknails is as strong as you are, faster than you, and he's got nearly double the Frenzy you do.

...Where in other situations, you might have some snippy counter to that, a weakness you noticed... Well, it's not unfounded arrogance.

However, he's not aiming to kill you. Well, he's thinking about not killing you. Put on a slightly better showing than what you have so far, and maybe he'll spare you.

Endurance: (6/11) | Frenzy: (0/5) (+0 to all Combat Rolls) | Armor Health: (11/17) (+4 to Defense)

Sagaseeker has 35 orthstirr in its reservoir.
Your Armor has 13 orthstirr in its reservoir.

Your combat pool is 70d6.

No moratorium.

Lmao, Punching Down. Who would take something like that? Also Spear guard is scary. trying to defend against his attacks seems expensive, and our frenzy is broken so contested movement favors him.
