[X] Fine metal for our forge!
(A good amount of forged iron and a chance at something even better)
[X] Prep: Leave our Fylgja outside in the sunlight (with our friends).

Given that both sea monsters and Celtic shenanigans are real, I do wonder if we could possibly craft a Gae Bolg tiered item in the far off future from the remains of the Curruid if we manage to find it somewhere.

It doesn't even need be Halla and it could be something cool to strive for with the descendants.

You know, a great benefit of the Norse Spirit thing is that we can confidently give sweet items without worrying that people might try to steal them. Cause the item knows it's owner and will curse the shit out someone who stole them.

Speaking of which, can Seidr 'ask' spirits questions? Can we 'ask' Thievesbane as to the name of their true owner?

Of course it would be pretty extra at this point, their real owner has a good chance of being dead already, it's been 8 years.

Yeah, that does make sense that we wouldn't have enough Egg Iron for anything good.

And for the river toe wielding, that's only some interpretation of the myths not all. We could also probably use Runes to achieve a different effect there too.

Though... it might be beneficial to go grab Troll bone ash one of these days given their regenerative effects. It might be able to get us a sword that can regrow back so we can use Sharpen. Or we could apply it on a Forged Iron shield to finally circumvent it being a consumable item like most other ones.

We might get enough for a weapon, but not armor. My own hopes, such as they are, are enough Molten Iron for a sword and then a whole pile of Forged Iron, but that may be too much. On the other hand if we get some of it, better rep and having a farm should let us trade Food for the rest. The dwarves like surface food a lot.

We already know how to do both those things: Crowfeeder's Runes are for exactly this (at least on the sword side, we could work something out for a shield). I'm personally quite tempted to put them on our sword and use it when we want to use Sharpen (and Sagaseeker the rest of the time unless we need to silence someone with Ashen Kiss).

Well yes, but if we use the Troll bone ash doesn't that mean we can have something else for the runes since the regenerative part won't take up rune space?

Maybe? We'd have to kill a troll without using sunlight for that, though, which is no small task (they're on par with a low end knight, threat-wise remember), and the weapon and its healing factor would probably work significantly worse in the sun. Working less well in sunlight is no big deal for tools, IMO, but it's more of an issue for a weapon, especially one whose troll-based power you're relying on.

Hey Blackhand,

So, sometimes Runes refer to a Saga.

Would runes still work if I refered to a Saga from Finland? Or Miklagard, for that matter.
What would happen, if another similar Saga has happened since I wrote the runes, would the meaning and effect of the runes change?

I presume there's some degree of material reward even if we pick another option (just as there will be some orthstirr and some rep gain even if we pick another option from those). Could we specify Forged Iron in that case as well? Or other kinds of Iron?
Sure!

It absolutely can

'A saga that happened in Finland? Do you mean a saga about somebody who adventured in Finland or something? If you mean a saga about Finns doing Finn things, then... I don't know. Maybe? And I have no idea on the second question.'

Yeah, my impression is that better Relations means we can buy the Good Stuff in small quantities at significant expense, but going for loot means we can potentially get a one-time infusion but have to wait for another opportunity to get more down the line.

Yeah, I want a sword made of magic Iron and Abjorn in Forged Iron Mail (and both of us in Forged Iron Helms) before we head off. We've got a little time for that, but we want it pretty badly, I think.

[X] The respect of those underground! (Increased gain of relations)

So for Seidr stuff next turn..

I would like:

1) Seidr spell to unveil Fylgja. Fylgjur are very convenient to have.
2) Seidr spell for detecting or dispelling or deflecting curses like someone erecting a Scorn-Pole on our lands.
3) Seidr spell to ask Spirits questions, because for the Norse have everything have a spirit, which potentially allows a ton of information gathering.
---
4) Seidr spell to see spirits, like a version of Seeing Eyes I guess.
5) Seidr spell for foretelling the future. Not as good as a raven but vague omens are better than noting.
6) How the Seeress helped out Stigr, if it was a dark spirit.
7) How the Seeress got rid of the magical charge.
8) The Seeress' Fertility Ritual spell.

I think we want all of that and probably soon-ish (I think you've laid out most of next year's spell tutoring), but I also think we want at least one healing spell immediately (I lean Time Heals All Wounds, as we can use it for most of the others at need), something specifically to defend against a hostile seidr user so we can visit the Witch sooner rather than later (though that may wind up identical to #2 on your list in practice), and something to find people (useful in general, useful specifically to find Hirkir, a plot thread I would like to resolve quickly if possible).

She did also say that spirit stuff was more advanced and might need to wait a minute. I'm cool with following that advice.
