Huzzah!

We went for all the marbles and we made a genuinely amazing heirloom. Awesome!

Anyway, that's... A thing. I imagine the 1 would have been unfortunate, while the 100 would have been... Exciting to say the least, huh?

Two redheads- at least where real-world genetics are involved- cannot have non-redheaded children (barring one-in-a-million-rare mutations). Like, it may not be worth poking at, but- this is far past "suspicion", this is fact: there is absolutely no non-magical possibility that Asva is legitimate.

Uh...I actually don't remember Asveig's hair color being discussed. The kids are all red-headed due to weird magic, but I didn't actually get the impression she was, though I could be wrong. @Imperial Fister was Asveig also a redhead?

And, I mean, even absent that she could be adopted, which would still be 'legitimate'. That's honestly the likeliest explanation...like, if Asveig's sister or someone died leaving a child parentless I can easily see it.

Just rolled, got 6, 5, 4, 2. That's a 4, which means it's Wondrous now, baybee

Nice! I'm glad we made something awesome for Asva.

Huzzah!

And now we get to see if you get Orthstirr for something like that. Probably? Hard to say for sure, though.

We really should, the amount of people that both have the skill to do so, and the will to put that skill to work to create more humble tools of a household instead of the badass panoply of a warrior should be fairly low.

Oh, well, in that case (1) disregard everything I said because it only applies to double-ginger parentage, and (2) disregard everything I said because there's explicitly already weird hair color magic in play and genetics is irrelevant.

Yeah, the Born of Fire Trait, which is auto-passed down for at least a while, is what makes you red-haired and grey-eyed for sure (all our kids have it so they all take after us in that regard despite Abjorn being blonde). We don't know a way to stop that from passing to our children (and don't want to do so, the Trait is awesome), but there probably is one and there could have been Reasons.

There could also, of course, have been an adoption, or adultery, or a host of other possibilities (though adultery strikes me personally as unlikely given what we knew of Asveig).

I believe I clumsily described Asva's hair something along the lines of 'dark, same as Asveig's' way back in summer 1/turn 1.

Asva is basically Asveig writ smaller, appearance-wise at least. Now, Halla also looks quite a bit like Asveig. Got the same general body shape and the overall shape of the face is on-point, though eyes, hair, and stature are all Steinarr.

This entire sentence is an incredible understatement

Huh, let me guess, a 1 would be "The War Starts right this fucking second because a deep strike comes in to gank Corpsemaker?"

Or worse. "Ironjaw decides to crash the party."

Gosh though, I'm glad we could produce a T8 for Asva's wedding, it should be a truly princely gift.

I think the first of those might be a 1 and the second a 100. That seems pretty plausible.

It would've been pretty impressive even at 'only' T7. That's still two tiers above what is even possible without magic. But yeah, T8 is even better and I'm very pleased.

I actually wonder if we might start getting approached for commissions after this? Sten probably takes some too, but more skilled craftsfolk never hurt anyone, especially when making a Masterwork requires such an investment in time and labor.

We might, but they'd need to be offering a shitload before we'd want to spend the action on them, as well as not be someone we'd be worried about fighting some day (if they ask for a weapon). Which isn't impossible at all, mind you, but it's something to bear in mind.

I'm now slightly worried about Corpsemaker trying to make an offer we can't refuse...though that's probably not gonna happen for a few reasons now that I think on it. Firstly, Steinarr would be A Problem, even for him, secondly, threatening your subordinates families is definitely nid (and Eric works for him, at least in theory), and thirdly, trying to threaten people into making things you rely on for survival is dumb and he's probably not dumb. Okay, I'm less worried now.

Laughter draws your gaze down the slope, to where a boy no older than five chases red-winged butterflies.

The boy giggles as his sharp-nailed hands clap together around one of the fluttering birds.
Just a minor consistency error, first he was chasing butterflies, then caught a bird.
Most methods I know involve harboring a spirit in your mind, which isn't the easiest of tasks for a learner of only two months. However, there is a spell I know that should do the trick, though it won't stop it from happening in the first place."
Harboring a spirit, like say, one of our ancestors? :V
But it's good to know spirit contracts are a thing in Norse magic as well.
"It's fine." It's not fine, but... "Now, I can't teach you shapecrafting, but I can show you a few healing spells."
Ah, she also has the haemopbia trait, huh?
And yes! Give heals! Give all the heals!!!
"I don't really remember, to be honest," Sten scratches at his beard as you scowl. "All I remember was a flash of light, men screaming, the flapping of a wing, and then I was asleep. The next morning, Asveig was making breakfast — with honey-drizzled bacon, my favorite — and there were no signs of battle nor did I ever find the bodies. When I asked her about it, she acted like it was a dream I had... Mom isn- wasn't a very good liar, you know?"
...wow.
She was a figurative house dragon huh?
Guess that would have been another introduction to seidr, had we learned/interacted more with mom?
You only found out about it just a few hours ago, when Steinarr warned you to not do anything if it happens again. Your teeth grind together as that familiar fucking invisible spotlight seems to shine all over him. His mere presence is a Godsdamned fucking power play! He's stealing attention from Asva, on her special fucking day!
And here is clear confirmation that he has odr.
Why must you just let a man as arrogant as fucking Corpsemaker walk all over your father, all over your sister? Why can't you just draw Ravenfeast and carve his fucking eyes out, just like with those Godsdamned Hunnic bastards?! Why is-
Hm.... A bit of bleed over? We do not have ravenfeast, after all.
RNG: 99. Holy shit, do you know how close that was?
.... We would have asked her on it on a critical, wouldn't we?
Asva's hair is black.
Aesvig awakening the strength of her own bloodline so at least one kid has black hair while funny, would show how dominant the godly bloodline is.

And I believe in her. If what Sten said is true - and there is no reason to question that - she would have left if she wasn't happy with Steinarr.

It's been mentioned previously that she could've taught us some, yeah. She couldn't have taught us the theory involving Odr and the Gate, though, or at least not from what we know. I suspect that particular event may have been Hugareida rather than Seidr, though. Being married to Steinarr seems the sort of thing that might net you Wildfire...

I'm inclined to agree that actual infidelity is unlikely, and given that story, rape even more so. As mentioned, adoption is also a possibility. Asva looks like mom, but if, say, her sister died in childbirth...

It's actually entirely on purpose. A stupid joke from me about the fact that medieval age people just referred to anything that could fly as a bird, if I recall correctly.
Blackhand, isn't this something you could directly help with?
'Yes, but I'm not exactly flush with power. The little I have is good for protecting against certain emotional manipulations, which skalds certainly are fond of, but not the full spectrum... I suppose I could try to command any other spirits you end up with here, though. That never was my strong suit, but I can still attempt it.'
Can I burn my Reward Dice to get a +1 on the roll lmaoo
Not on this one, I'm afraid. It just wouldn't be fair.

[X] No, no you won't

A Nat 100 would've, well

; )
Hm...
There were three possible outcomes for that roll. 1, 2–99, and 100
1 - Something Happens
2–99 - Nothing Happens
100 - Something Happens
HMMMM.......
This entire sentence is an incredible understatement
Ah!!!
Ancestral visit? They did miss ours, I could see them prepping to go for Asva's at least.

Corpsemaker's face would have been a sight to behold, whe HE needs to yield the highest to a red haired, steel eyed powerhouse.
Capacity is becoming A Concern.
Again, the "capacity is a concern" talk.
No, it isn't.
Capacity is just the hotbar, not the total amount of stuff we can know. Just what's on top of our mind at quick notice. We just need to select the ones we will need at all times at turn start, same as shapeshifting.

I'm well aware of that, but stuff that never shows up in the hotbar no matter what is stuff we shouldn't be buying since buying it has actual costs. My concern in this instance is specifically, do we think we can come up with, say, two Atgeir Hugareida Tricks that are actually worth taking up 3 Capacity (one for the Muna one each for the two Tricks). If we can, great, if not we shouldn't be purchasing them. I suspect we can with Halfdan's help, but it's a legitimate thing we need to examine.

We're not at that point yet, but it's becoming something we need to think about and plan around. Hence 'A Concern'.

The shapeshifting options we have access to all of for free, so the same planning on which to acquire isn't needed, but it is for combat-related spells and Hugareida Tricks (not so much for entirely non-combat ones, since we can swap out easily enough in that case), and we need to actually consider it in regards to them.
