Say, there is a part of the mechanics that i dont quite understand. What is the point of assigning orthstirr to different things when planning a turn? Like they dont affect anything in combat, because in combat we start fresh and can assign orthstirr in any amount to anything. So how does assigning orthstirr help in training or turn planning? Does it affect the miscellaneous rolls that we do for Hamr and Hugr that dont fall into training category nor in combat category, like using Hugr to talk to new people in towns?

As others note, we actually don't start fresh in combat, anything we spent at the beginning of the turn is still spent.

But basically, we only get the chance to assign additional orthstirr to things right before a fight or similarly important encounter, not before the rolls that just come up incidentally over the course of the turn, so if we have a roll that just comes up (or even one we seek out but doesn't start an encounter like crafting), we use the stuff assigned at the beginning of the turn.

Just noticed, but its good to see we have Reinforce -Shield in every plan!

We, uh, don't actually. I'm very on board with doing it in general, but there just weren't enough dice this turn for something combat oriented that will take quite a while and absolutely not be useful for either the raid or the upcoming boss fight we get at 16 (since it will not be complete). The other tricks we can actually get there, I think, and we need the skills for basic competence in raiding and married life alike, but Mastering something? That's a much longer term project. Once we have 2s in a bunch of skills (both combat and non) and Hamr at 5, we can start really looking into Reinforce-Shield.

Once we have the dice to start long term things again, we should also look into the teaching trick.
It will probably become very relevant when Halla decides to have Abjorns kids and wants to teach them.

Agreed entirely. We have a fair number of Skill-Tricks we want to learn really (Track and Stealth in Wildcraft, Teaching in Wordplay, Household in Housecraft, and likely some Armorcraft or Weaponcraft ones as well, eventually), but most of them probably need to wait until post-Raid (we might be able to sneak in one of the Wildcraft ones, since those would actually potentially be useful on said raid).

Where is teaching a trick we can learn?

It's a Wordplay Skill-Trick, one of the ones shown in the skill list.

In the threadmarked qm post "List of Skills and Breakdown of Tricks" under non-combat hugr, the last Wordplay trick:

You fall through the air, hair flowing behind you like a great cloak of woven red thread.

You hit the ground with a thunderous crack. Tremors rattle out as the earth crumbles before your powerful blow. Sagaseeker drives deep down below as it tears through grass, dirt, roots, and stone.

Leaping-Cleave's refinement is coming along nicely!

It feels almost as if Owl is on the verge of growing more powerful. What that means, you're not much sure.

Apparently, it's a bit different for every person as it's the expression of your soul evolving and changing.

'*It could also have some negative effects on you, depending on how you view such things.*' Blackhand once again reminds you, though you still don't entirely understand his meaning.

You suppose that you won't ever truly understand until you experience it for yourself.

On the Abj-oat with Abjorn
Abjorn is very warm to the touch on this cool summer afternoon on the lake.

You smile as you listen to the subtle rise and fall of his broad, wall-like chest. His arm is wrapped around your body and you're pressed against his side. His powerful heart beats at a slow, steady, relentless pace.

You find yourself dozing off, lulled to sleep by the unstoppable beat of his heart.

Oh to have this be your everyday.

Asveig Time (Hugr (Silver-Tongue: 6, 4, 5, 1, 6, 4, 5, 4, 1, 3) 10 Successes
Asveig bends over the cooking pot and you quickly add the next set of vegetable slices as she stirs the broth.

Today you're learning how to make a stew. Tomorrow you're learning how to make cheese. And the day after that you get to learn how to brew alcohol.

Honestly, it's pretty fun to see your loved ones' faces light up as they eat food you made.

You watch Drifa from the corner of your eye as she's scolded by her mother. She got her dress all muddy, the adorable little animal!

Flekkr sniffs at the stew and you fix him with a stern look. He whines, but backs away towards the she-dog Steinarr had bought. The *pregnant* she-dog.

Looks like there will be some puppies soon.

You steadily ignore the fact that you had to walk in on those puppies being made on your damn bed.

'*Lets hope some survive the winter.*'

You wince, yeah that would be nice.

Speaking of children, Sterki's walking and talking now. Not with any real skill or thought behind his words, but he's actually more than a pink blob! He has thoughts and feelings... even if they mostly amount to 'food' and 'dada' or 'mama'.

Still, it's odd to think that one day, you'll be the mother of a Sterki. Well, not *Sterki*-Sterki, but a mother of a child nonetheless.

'*Great, I get to experience pregnancy...*' Blackhand seems rather glum at the notion. '*Though, I reckon it's only fair given how many children I fathered in life.*'

"How many aunts and uncles do I have again?"

'*Twenty-six.*' You whistle, shaking your head. '*Though most aren't exactly alive anymore.*'

Metal sings its sacred song as you hammer away at the forging stone. A smile spreads its way across your face as soot covers your skin and stings your eyes.

You'll be sneezing up a lot of black snot after this, but that's a small price to pay for the joy of the forge.

"Decent work," Sten says as you pull the last tool from the water. Steam rises from the hammer head. "Could use more practice, but that's how it is with everything."

You nod your appreciation. Honestly, you're just thankful that you don't have to pay for the iron. A frown slips over your face.

You don't have to pay for it *yet*. When you're on your own with Abjorn, that will change.

Great.

AN: Tool bonuses do not stack. You told Abjorn to go and talk to Stigandr, he said he would.

I'm pretty sure that I'm right on the math front regarding Hugr's requirements, but math isn't my strong suit so...

Basic Quality is over 0, unlocks at Rank 0
Decent Quality is over 5, unlocks at Rank 1
Good Quality is over 10, unlocks at Rank 2
There are higher qualities, far higher in fact, but you have to discover them either through encountering them or ranking up.

25-minute moratorium.

So we missed Good by a single success? Darn. I'm guessing no progress on our Trait because it needs to be at least Good for that?

I really do want to poke Gabriel and that Armor...

Yeah, it's probably a good call...we have so many actions we need to take though. Drifa still doesn't like us at all, for instance. And we need to craft more if we're to sell the products thereof, which remains a thing...ugh. And we need to go shopping to boot!

Gabriel and the Armor are probably an option we're going to lose sooner rather than later, so I want to learn what we can before that option closes on us.

Hrm, can we actually do the rune research as long as we commit enough training dice to Artcraft to finish the Trick?

Funnily enough, we just got a new option to try sparring with him due to his boredom. Maybe we could ask about it during the fight? Or convnce dad to let him use it to put up a better one :p

I think they'll honestly synergize, and I don't think anything else is on fire right now?

EDIT: Holy shit Hugr 7 is expensive ahhhhh

On the other hand, Hugr 7 is a Major Milestone so ahhhhhh

We need to get money (so we can go shopping next turn) and check on Stigandr. Nothing on fire, but there's stuff that needs to be done.

And this is half price as compared to Hamr 7, remember. And it's not a useful major milestone to us at the moment (it lets you combine hugareida...we have one of those, we need two for that to be useful), so i think it can wait a minute.

If we can make a shield with Standstill, can we make stepping stones in the air? I know from previous discussions we're a little trick-heavy, but... air-stepping would be useful.

So, in terms of actions, we actually want, ideally, a Good set of tools to keep (though even a Decent set would do), but we do definitely want to keep one and sell one, so we can go shopping for a Good Gambeson next turn. We also want to examine that armor and check on Stigandr, just to make sure he's alright.

For Training, we basically continue what we did last time, but are putting enough dice into Imaging to hopefully get it done. We are also putting 1d6 into Armorcraft for appropriateness and because we do want it anyway (for armor maintenance and repair). No dice in Hugr itself this turn since we have so many other priorities and it's so far off.

Orthstirr-based weaponry is pretty beans, on account of not having anything solid to work off of. Great for showing people how to do certain motions, crap for most else. Orthstirr on its own doesn't have a lot of substance, it's a bit like grease, in a way.
Could we, eventually, possibly, find a way to Reinforce Orthstirr-based weaponry? Or with Hugareida, perhaps?
Even if only arrows that disappear after hitting, this is such a cool concept.
I wanna pull a Mortal Kombat's Nightwolf.

Certainly possible, though I'm not certain it would be possible to do with the current over-all refinement level of Norse cultivation.

Hugareida is a different story, of course, but raw orthstirr is a bit of an eh

We could probably do something like this with the right Hugareida (arrows made of fire seem well within the scope of a fire Hugareida, for example), even if orthstirr isn't viable.

Don't know if this is suboptimal, but I want to interact with Asva.

So do I, quite a bit actually. But in terms of not dying we kind of desperately need the best armor we can get and, as others note, the stuff with Gabriel is probably on a time limit. I'm definitely down with spending time with Drifa and Asva in the next few turns (I'm thinking one of them, shopping, and the meteor next turn, then the other and fighting Gabriel, plus whatever third action seems right the turn after), but we need to get our financial situation squared away so we can get actual good armor first.

If people want I could swap out the armor action for spending time with Asva or Drifa (I honestly went with the armor action because people seemed to want to do that and it is time sensitive...I'd personally rather spend time with family), but skipping out on getting the money together for actual good armor for ourselves is a really bad mistake.

We were told to prepare for a boss fight, ignoring those preparations is a good way to wind up very dead and with only one Visit per season, we are very much on a clock for being able to go to town and buy things (and buying a Good Gambeson definitely necessitates going there on a visit).

To double down on this:
We were told to prepare for a Boss fight that "could very easily lead to Halla dying or worse".
Also, a piece of pertinent information. When you turn 16, there will be a boss fight — a boss fight that could very easily lead to Halla dying or worse. This enemy is small but has immense strength and an extremely poisonous bite.
