I don't think it's good QM-ing to include relationship decay if you're skipping over a lot of time between each turn. At least if you don't give the players very many actions a turn.

If you guys choose to stay out on, like, a multiyear raid or adventure or something, then it'd probably have some kind of negative effect relationship-wise with people. Not everyone and not uniformly, of course, but definitely something.

I sometimes think of them as one off scenes that are important enough that they get narrative attention about,
Sometimes they are, but most often they're not. Like, a visit to Asvir or another farm would be a one-off, but a 'spending time with' choice would be a small snippet of a greater effort which happens alongside your other day-to-day things like saying hi to friends or keeping your skills sharp.

Thank god, relationship juggling when AP is this choked is awful.

Anyway, I guess we should be getting our Imaging trick online so we can move the Pod storyline forward? I definitely want that mostly locked down before the Hammer Falls.

Say, in Hamr training (general Hamr, not the tricks) we got the rolls as 6, 4, 2 and got 2 successes. Shouldnt that be 3 successes, two from the 6 and one from the 4? Did the roll of 2 subtract one success? Or am I misunderstanding the mechanics?

Definitely the big main expenditure next turn, yeah.

The 2 did indeed subtract a success. The way the dice work is that a 1-2 is -1 successes and, as you've correctly deduced, a 3-4 is 1 success and a 5-6 is 2 successes. The only other wrinkle is that a total of exactly zero successes gets counted a single success.

It's an interesting system. Very swingy in terms of total number of successes.

Wait, did I miss something? Honestly, I had no idea why we were upgrading Artcraft, but apparently we need it for the meteor? To do what with the meteor? And where was this said???

On the character sheet, the first page/section called overview, it has a spoiler named journal. There is everything relevant or attention catching recorded, like the witch or stuff like the kennings.

tl:dr;
There are runes in the meteor that prevent us from opening it. Aki wants us to learn runecraft to get around that issue. Level 2 in artcraft is enough to advance (for now).

"Cause I was blowing stuff up."

You blink. He grins harder. "Just... Just tell me why I'm here."

"I've been working on replicating the runes on the meteor, so we can try to disarm it for your brother to get a crack at." Your brows rise as he explains what he's been doing. "The problem is I don't have enough hamr to keep my hands steady while I do it."

Oh, right, I completely forgot he asked to do that. I didn't think we'd need an entirely new stat and skill trick.

[X] Plan Actually Make Mom Happy

Steinarr stares at you, eyes alight with an aghast glow. "He kicked you?! How... How disrespectful! If you're gonna hit someone, you hit them with a weapon or, if you have to, whatever you have on hand. Your feet?" He visibly recoils, shaking his head. "What an ass. It's a good thing he's dead or else that would've been a full outlawing!"
Wait... The outlawing.... Would that be for him or for us?
At first, I thought it's some honor bullshit, and the enforcer would have been outlawed, but on second reading....
That wouldn't explain why it's good he is dead if he would have been an outlaw anyway.

Did we lucked out even more than we thought?

Would everyone surviving that fight, after he kicked us, shamed us so much with nidingr that the law wouldn't protect us anymore?

What's up with Norseman and weird battle etiquette?

Yeah, I got the sense that getting a full outlawing is a fate worse than a honorable death, rather than Halla being outlawed for getting kicked.

i do hope you are right, but still..
there is this bit though, about clowing on them:
If someone dies because of it, it's their fault for not blocking or dodging. Fighting someone in pitched combat means that you're gonna try your hardest to win and, if possible, absolutely clown on your opponent by doing things like spanking them with your sword or kicking their ass with something that's not a weapon, like a hammer.
Not sure if kicking someone across the field counts as clowning on them though.

Being outlawed means that the law no longer protects you (in that area). Anyone can come by and kill you with no repercussions. They'll even be awarded orthstirr by that act!

Of course, you need to be taken to court for outlawry to be on the table. And you have to fail in getting out of it via other means (paying a fine or doing some act worthy of it being forgiven).

Being an outlaw isn't a permanent thing, either. A half outlawing is 3 years, a full is 7, iirc.

There's a difference between shaming/humiliating someone (clowning on them) and doing dishonorable things like kicking or punching people. The difference may be very fine, but it's there.

Say, there is a part of the mechanics that i dont quite understand. What is the point of assigning orthstirr to different things when planning a turn? Like they dont affect anything in combat, because in combat we start fresh and can assign orthstirr in any amount to anything. So how does assigning orthstirr help in training or turn planning? Does it affect the miscellaneous rolls that we do for Hamr and Hugr that dont fall into training category nor in combat category, like using Hugr to talk to new people in towns?

Ah, I get it, it's like counting coup. If you get away with it, you're the badass because you showed such dominance that you could take a tactically shit move and still win through your prowess, but if someone punishes you for it, it makes you the dumbass.

Is that about right?

Is that about right?
More or less, yes.
Like they dont affect anything in combat, because in combat we start fresh and can assign orthstirr in any amount to anything.
You don't actually start fresh. You start with whatever orthstirr you have on hand when the combat starts. There have been a couple times that you've started combat at full, because you were sparing or something, but that's because the plan took that into account.

You have the ability to tap into the raw make-up of orthstirr to give yourself a boost and that's been used a lot at the start of fights as of late (which is not a good idea, to be clear)
Does it affect the miscellaneous rolls that we do for Hamr and Hugr that dont fall into training category nor in combat category, like using Hugr to talk to new people in towns?
Yep

Yeah, it's working because we're not expecting to get into a lot of fights and we're still in 'Tutorial Mode' and thus need to be able to go to 11 on a moment's notice, but tapping all of your Orthstirr right at the start of a campaign is a bad idea, you might need it later!
