Well, I haven't looked at anything specific, but it seems plausible at large social gatherings in general? Young men wanting to blow off steam by competing in showy displays for onlookers is a classic, and flyting is less destructive than other forms of competition they might choose. There can also be a distinction between stuff that is said in the context of poetic license, and an insult "on the street" so to speak. (Partly because resorting to violence is kind of an admission that you're a loser.) For an analogy one could look at the history of rap battles in modern history - some of the things that get said in them would definitely cause hands to get thrown if they weren't being spat through the mic.
I can see your point and while it does make sense, at the same time this is a society where you literally get weaker if somebody insults you and you don't do anything about it. Which does include resorting to violence, which the Norse believed to be a perfectly reasonable response to someone insulting you.
'I have on occasion, yes. And the Enemy always tried something, though after the first two attempts failed it tried finding alternative methods of striking back.'

Anyways, I'm almost done with this update. Just need to figure out the rewards for this one and we're good to go!
Yeah, even if it historically was a thing, something like Flyting is effectively a physical attack in Cultivation Scandanavia, so it wouldn't be done casually in this setting.
Gosh, we're finally getting back to regular turns! It's been almost a month now, hasn't it?
Not even three weeks (May 19th was the last turn post). It's been a while, but not quite that long. Now, admittedly, that was a brief return to normal turns after the trial (and preceding investigation), but still.
I think we can probably plant one in the real world now and survive, but we might want a little more Farmwork and a discussion with Steinarr on the subject before we start that if we want to actually benefit from it. The Management/Property system (which should kick in with the new year?) might also be involved there.
Right now the demon seeds will just explode in our faces. Nonlethally if we grow them in the real world, or at least allowing a fight. Not the best of ideas right now, though.

I mean, we now know Steinarr has plant Hugareida and is apparently a super-farmer in terms of plants (though, to all appearances, not animal husbandry or he'd be a lot richer), which is a good thing to have discovered...with his help I think we might get something useful out of planting one in the real world, including knowledge of what they are and how they work. We likely would need his help, though.

Getting out something useful out of the plant is contingent on the plant having useful things to get out of. Which is contingent on being able to use those parts of the plant. Given what we know about the Seeds it's probably going to sprout some horrible monster at this stage, which we'll probably have to kill. Presumably the dead monster will have useful resources, but those resources may only be relevant at, say, the 2nd stage of Cultivation.

-[X] Aki's soul may be asleep, but he may be dreaming. "I don't know if you're going to remember this later, but you've shown interest, and your courage has never been in question. Take from this what you will, but I will leave the information with you here regardless, if you are willing to take up the responsibility and risks of delving into these secrets. When you have a Farm of your own, a place that you can truly call yourself King in, Summon your allies to you within your fence to serve as guardians and companions, and with your Orthstirr at its heights, stoke your Aspects further still. Weave them together as one, and you will find within a Path Forward, should you have the strength and fortitude to endure the flood of inspiration and the courage to face the great Foe of our people and his minions when his eye turns to you later. This is a secret I gift to you, as a symbol of our friendship and my thanks for the harm you took aiding me and my kin, but take care, the Enemy will not allow us to spread it further without challenge, and it may be some time yet before we can prepare a field to face it's reprisal."
-[X] Thank Modgudr for her help and her patience with you.

Aki sits in your hand, your words flowing through the air and into his soul. Even if he sleeps, he may still be dreaming. This... it might be the best chance you'll get to safely tell him of your findings.
As cold as Niflheim may be, the red luster of Aki's soul keeps the worst of it at bay all the same. If you were a person of lesser moral fiber, you might very well have considered grabbing another soul for personal use.
But even as that thought crosses your mind, a wave of disgust shivers up your spine. You scowl, that would just leave a bad taste in your mouth. Best not to do that, then. After all, how would you feel if your or even Abjorn's soul ended up dangling from a chain?
You shudder, deciding to put that thought out of mind. It's probably time for you to get a move on anyways. But, there's something you should probably do before heading out — something you should say to someone.
"Hey, Modgudr?" You wave to the big, beautiful woman as she finishes her sweeping. Her eyes acknowledge your presence but that's all she does. "Well, I'd just like to say thank you, both for helping me and for your patience."
Her gazes softens as a sigh escapes her lips and her arms fall to her sides. "There's... You don't need to apologize, if anything *I* should be the one to say sorry. Which I am."
You tilt your head to the side, brows narrowing in confusion. "What for?"
"I shouldn't have pushed Astmundur onto you like that, that was wrong of me."
"It's fine, I invaded your privacy and reaped the consequences." You shrug, waving it off. "Besides, he's not said a word since..." You frown as your words reach your ears. Astmundur being quiet period doesn't seem very in-character for him... Is there something wrong?
You blink as you look over your shoulder, brows shooting high on your head.
Astmundur slumps against the entrance to the stairwell with his legs splaying out before him. His blood stains the wood red, sprayed out from the suspiciously fist-shaped hole plowing his head and upper chest into a 'u' shape. He's dead ...and you didn't even know it happened. You didn't even see her move! You didn't even hear the swish of her fists!
Your eyes widen as you realize something that you should've clocked the moment you laid eyes on Modgudr. The shimmers of Frenzy... they're wrong. The wind doesn't blow her hair like the shimmers saw it should. The mists don't wet her skin like they should!
Well...
"...Fuck," you whisper, your eyes staying locked to the extremely dangerous woman. Nervous tremors set your hands to shaking as you run them through your hair over and over again.
"He will be fine come morning." Modgudr shrugs, like she was discussing something as inconsequential as whether or not she saw three or four hares last summer. "But still, I am sorry. I..." she frowns, either oblivious of or uncaring towards how surreal this whole thing is to you, "I am not a very extroverted person, I don't do well with meeting new people. Not at all."
Not even the Jarl of Jurgdby drew a response like this from you. With him, there was that little inkling of confidence, a certainty that you could at least see your death coming even if you couldn't do anything about it.
With Modgudr?
You could hit the ground and not know you were dead.
You could even be dead right now!
"I-I'm not dead, am I?" Your shivery, shaking voice draws a stare of confusion from the goddess.
"What, no? What are you talking about?" Modgudr squints, not an ounce of understanding behind her eyes. "Are you okay?"
No, no you're not.
But that's not what you say.
"I..." you swallow a gulp, "I-I should go."
Modgudr blinks and scratches at the side of her face. "Well, alright? I guess I'll be seeing you?"
Oh Gods you hope not.

Sparkling snowflakes swirl down from the cloud-choked skies as the Seeress' hearth crackles in your ear. Its warmth, though welcome, fails to stop the shivers and shakes.
The Seeress took pity on you, assuming that your trip to Ginnungagap had more of an effect on you than it did, and laid a warm, soothing blanket over your shoulders. You don't bother correcting her — after all, she's not entirely wrong.
Your fingers curl around a cup of steaming tea. It... it's still not great, but at least it's warm. Not that it stops the tremors.
It's one thing to be shocked by unknown strength on the battlefield, where you expect it. It's another thing entirely to be slapped in the face by it, when all that was happening was a simple exchange of apologies.
You thought you were strong.
Now you know you're not.
'In this world, you are strong until you are weak. You are winning until you lose. You are wise until you are fooled and you are rich until you are poor.'
"Yes, but-" you scowl as Blackhand cuts you off.
'As much as certain men might wish otherwise, all things end. Reigns of power, wells of might, extent of authority, how far wealth can take you, and even life itself, all of these will eventually meet their end.'
"Then what's the point?! If everything ends, then..." you shrug, slouching in the chair as you stare out the window, "they why even try?"
'Because-'
"Because it's the only option we have," the Seeress' voice cuts through the mire clouding your thoughts, "unless you think 'going quietly' is a valid option." She scoffs, her thoughts on that clear as crystal, as she takes a seat across from you. "Your friend will be fine, by the way. He'll wake up in the morning," she says, nodding to where Aki sleeps.
Aki is curled up close — but not too close! — to the hearth. A blanket is wrapped about his shoulders as his chest slowly rises and falls, his breathing quiet but there. His arms are wrapped around his raven, like he was cuddling it.
"So that's it then? The point of life is to struggle?"
"If you were to ask a hundred people what the point of life is, then you'll receive a hundred and five different answers." The Seeress shrugs as she swirls her tea around her cup. "Life is not about what you take with you."
'It's about what you leave behind.'

AN: I'm a bit nervous about how this one played out, to be honest.
15 minute moratorium.
I'm rolling the dice for the gacha now. Also, I'm changing the rules for how the gacha works. Now, you get three attempts a try (this time has two tries, to note) to get something. You can only get a maximum of 1 item per try, to keep it from getting too wild. You'll figure out how it works quickly.
Try 1:
(Roll #1: Tails. Nothing)
(Roll #2: Heads. Strength: 8 (Out of 100). Relevancy: 8 (Out of 10))
Try 2:
(Roll #1: Heads. Strength: 65 (Out of 100). Relevancy: 1 (Out of 10))
You wake up one morning to find that your fylgja has found not just one thing, but two!
The first is a comb carved from a blue-green seashell. When you go to use it, it flies out of your hand and starts combing your hair on its own! Useful, but not especially powerful. Oh well.
The second is a small, roughly finger-length piece of wood. The tip is black and pointy. When it is brushed against a surface, it leaves dark grains behind. Now how are you supposed to use this?
We're at 16 Odr per turn now, and that becomes 17 at the turn of the year.
I'm thinking... Would the Troll Men Reprisal really qualify as a full event at this point @Imperial Fister ? Or can we just faceroll them at this point, given we don't have any other active threats at the moment who could really take advantage?
That aside, I'm thinking for Odr at least, we want to Infuse Hamr and Fylgja with our current income.
Yeah, I definitely don't like the idea of Halla becoming more selfish.
In terms of turn plans I (unsurprisingly) have one, but I'm not 100% sure on research: Do we want to try making an Armory from one of our Pockets? I mean, we do eventually, but do we now? It shouldn't effect our Odr gains for the next couple of turns so now is a valid time to try, but do we want to do that specific thing this turn?

They almost killed Sten if Steinarr hadn't been there. They're only a threat due to numbers, but that's still a threat. I'm very skeptical it's not a full combat encounter.
I agree long term, but we're down to only 7, so I think we do that over two turns (along with a few other minor investments) to get our stockpile up just in case. Then we start burning hard at 16 per turn to get both of them to Infused 6.

I believe Imperial Fister said we spend a social action with the Seeress to start. That's what I have in my plan, anyway.
I'm thinking... Work on Return, get Gale Spear online, unlock Seidr and get the rundown, Infuse Hamr and Fylgja to rank 4 each, and otherwise keep cleaning things up. I'm thinking we might want to throw some extra dice over Drifa's direction too, get her started on Hone and Reinforce as the bread and butter Tricks.
But yeah, a Research Dice on filling one of our Pockets with Orthstirr, see about the Armory option, and see what happens. We can pay for it from continuing to undo our excess Pockets too.
I do feel as well that we want to take time to stomp the Troll Men if that isn't going to be a huge investment in time and energy too, so we can start rebuilding our farm.
[ ] Gain Boon: It's about what you leave behind
-Has an effect on your descendants, which is granted retroactively
-Halla becomes more selfless
There are many quests where a decision like this would be difficult indeed. This isn't one of them. In all likelihood we'll be playing Halla's descendants for a lot longer than we'll be playing her. The selflessness being preferable to selfishness is just icing on the proverbial cake.

We don't have any spare dice for Drifa this turn, I don't think. Things are tight. Other than that this is basically the plan (with the proviso, as mentioned above, of only doing Hugr Infusion so we can save up a little...I am not comfy with a reserve of only 7 if we get in a serious fight).

I'm thinking that's gonna be a full combat. I'm also thinking we put it off exactly one turn (we then do it and visit Asvir to buy livestock both next turn rather than this one...in that order). That way we can start training with Solrun, check in with Hasvir and his family, and invite Eric to spar and hang out. All of which seem important.
Honestly a selfish Halla just seems incongruous, from what I can tell Halla never hesitates to help if there's a fight involved, or heck, even the Nidheart situation.
We can't rebuild our farm this turn. In-universe, it's the middle of winter which makes that hard. Out of universe, the Management/Property system is currently in the shop for renovations, so we can't use it. The earliest we can rebuild is next turn.
We could fight the Troll-Men in theory, but I think one turn off from violence may be for the best. That way we can make killing them and rebuilding part of a single turn's purpose and vision (and get several important things about the aftermath of recent events dealt with).
I'm thinking... Would the Troll Men Reprisal really qualify as a full event at this point @Imperial Fister ? Or can we just faceroll them at this point, given we don't have any other active threats at the moment who could really take advantage?
To save you a visit (and because the Seeress is not normally available during Winter), step 0 is learning Recall. Once you've learned it, you can start branching out. It's seidr training wheels, essentially.
Huh, that changes things slightly. Alright, with all that in mind then, here's the plan. If rollover successes from Recall going to Fast Recall isn't valid we may need to adjust slightly as I just heavily overinvested there to get Recall done with, but this otherwise seems fine.
I'm actually fine with playing through Troll Extermination, I just thought other stuff took priority, but with the Seeress not available until we complete Recall, well, I think going Troll-Men killing is right.

[X] Plan Tying Up Loose Ends
-[X] (Personal) Spend time with...
--[X] Eric, our brother
--[X] Welcome him home properly, trade stories of our respective lives since we saw each other last, and invite him to join the family and friends sparring sessions.
--[X] Ask him what he'd like in the way of a weapon, since we owe him a gift for both his gift to us and breaking his wrist way back when. We can easily make something to spec, runes included though it may take us a little while depending on what he wants.
-[X] (Personal) Spend time with...
--[X] Hasvir and his family (hopefully including Wolfwind)
--[X] See how they're doing, how bringing their employees back from Bodily Death has gone, whether anyone in the family is still holding grudges, hopefully meet the rest of them under peaceful circumstances.
--[X] See if they're gonna handle the remaining bandits. Not requesting they do so, just making sure we aren't assuming they're still around when they aren't.
--[X] Invite Hardir (and Veny if she's interested) to come learn how to fight better. He did try to fight us when he thought we were a threat, so he's brave enough, just in need of training. Maybe whatever has prevented him from learning until now can be overcome?
