More specifically, it's a 'wave your hand/finger/foot/whatever and a sword slices there' sort of thing. Not specifically, slicing, or waving, but you remember the lion defense move that Folkmarr did? That's a trick for his Lion Hugareida (well... sort of). It's still a floating sword, but its not always present — though, functionally, it is (I just think the image of a sword floating behind you is a bit too silly for me)

Check. That still definitely works for the options I want from it. Specifically, I want a Perfect Parry (we may not need Hugareida for that, but I bet it's better that way, and we need a non-Standstill one so we can use Mire Ward better and more often) and an attack we can launch while we've got someone's defenses locked up with the atgeir (the ability to 'kick a sword' at them is fine for that purpose).

And animal Hugareida sound awesome, but maybe not Halla's thing, to be honest. Abjorn not having a Bear Hugareida is a great injustice that must be corrected however.

Hahah! Oh my god, it's the 'Use your fingers as a sword' Sword Meme, I love it

Does this also mean we can use Sagaseeker as a Sword too? If we learn the right Trick for it?

On that note, I think a Sword Hugareida might actually have good odds of, well, doing high amounts of '''ranged''' damage. In a single trick, to be clear.

Throwing your sword always works, after all.

If you had well-trained facial muscles, you could direct it using your eyebrows

I don't see why not.

Oh my goodness, I love this Hugareida already. We're going to use it in so many degenerate ways.

"Nobody ever said a King can't also be a Hero" We said to our adorable murdercatte.

I mean, we might still want a holdout Sword if only to be a source for another Rune Script and possibly to fuel this arrangement and/or be inspired by Freyr's self-fighting sword, but an ability that lets our Murdercatte 'Count as a Sword' is amazing

I think we do want a backup sword simply because we want some sort of additional backup weapon we make ourselves anyway and if we're going Sword Hugareida we might as well lean in a little bit...but yeah, we can do some silly stuff if we make Sagaseeker count as a sword.

The funny thing is, Halla's initiating into this through what seems to be a symbolic 'Passing of the Torch' from Steinarr rather than because she sworded so good that she became Enlightened, which means she's going to use it in some really degenerate ways. I love it, her aesthetic is going to be so unique once she's part of the Legend Tier.

Well, that. was. AMAZING!
Like, wow. a proper Kaiju fight!
The Threaded Elephant stomps down on the blue construct as it buckles under the weight. Shining white cracks spiderweb across the trick as it shatters.
yeah, Magic might be a thing, but simple physics are stronger...
Grafted arms unfold around him, all instantly swinging the bone-blades held in their grasp. But even against an onslaught like that, Steinarr retains his focus.
HA! called it!
Your celebrations are cut short as the Elephant's flank slides open, revealing several rows of smaller machines and arms holding bone spears.
.... oh my god, this was a walking siege weapon....
You leap into the air, to where your fylgja has the boulder readied. Retrieving the rune-crafted weapon from the folds of your fylgja's feathers, you quickly dismiss the owl back to the fold between realms.
Ah... so our fygla can't retrive stuff on its own from its fold, only put them in?
The Elephant's skull snaps as the boulder hits it, the impact alone enough to cave it in. The explosion? Oh the explosion!

There's a bloody grin on your face as, for a moment, the sun joins you on the earth.
beautiful.
Its head is a smoking ruin, the trunk hanging on by a thread. Both its tusks are gone, nothing left now but splinters in the crater. All of the machines were destroyed in the fire. It sways on wobbly legs, but it still stands.
truly, such a nice view...
And then a fucking ship hits it in the face.
LOL
Summon Ship is super effective! :V
White light glows from Steinarr's body as he focuses on his sword, crimson orthstirr radiating from his skin. Patterns flow off his skin and into the air behind him as the twist and curl into a picture of something vaguely familiar. Your eyes widen as you realize just what it is; Europe!

A crimson line flows across the map, from Gotland to...

'Miklagard...' Blackhand's words are bursting with pride as his son shines bright in the sky.
hm... we should ask Steinarr about this, later. but for now:
"hey, Blackhand, what was that map thing or trick Dad used? Also, just to make sure, but, thats not something Odr related, right?"
Steinarr speaks — the words lost to the wind — he swings — his sword filled to bursting with crimson power — and the Elephant's head falls — and Steinarr with it.

Torsten catches your father's unconscious form, every drop of orthstirr in his body spent for one final attack.
hm.... big price for big attack, checks out.
I suspect that 'True' Inheritance of Charred Soul will allow Muna to be passed down through it too.
I mean, we know already its possible, languages were comfirmed.... but i also recall IF mentioning that Hugreida will not carry. Standstill is just too powerful gameplay wise

back to reading the backlog... oh!

[X] Muna: Steinarr's Sword (Unlock Sword Hugareida)
[X] Upgrade Ignition

Halla's signature move is literally based on her experience of kissing Abjorn, it's just so adorable.

Folkmarr: How did you ever get that Hugareida that stops things, anyway?
Halla: I got it from my first kiss with Abjorn! While he was saving my life.
Abjorn: Redface.
Audrikr: And this is why you need to find someone-
Folkmarr: Audrikr, no!

"hey, Blackhand, what was that map thing or trick Dad used? Also, just to make sure, but, thats not something Odr related, right?"
'That was the Varangian Way, a Twist gained through service in the Varangian Guard.

It is one of the most powerful abilities a Norseman can have. The Varangian Way allows you to add the strength you had at the time of receiving the Twist to the strength you have now, for one, single strike.

Not all Varangians receive it. In fact, only those that the Emperor personally commends have the potential to. The fact that Steinarr has it means that he's…

Well, I lack the words to properly describe how proud I am of him. Truly, he's in the sun's light.'

Oh wow. That Twist sounds awesome as hell. I don't know what all the mechanics of that would be, but we're definitely talking near doubled dice pools and probably damage likewise (technically, you probably get a bonus to dice pool and damage equal to your dice pool and damage when you got the Twist...for someone like Steinarr that's near doubled). Which is ridiculous.

Also considering too that you seem to lose a lot of the boosts involved with backing the Emperor up when you finish your tour of duty.

Huh, it's a Twist then that says "You can re-activate the superpowers you had when you were part of the Guard in an emergency situation, because the Emperor approves of you and granted you this as a reward as a show of Trust."

Gah, now I really want to have Sigurdr do a tour of duty there too, just to see the kind of nonsense that the Varangian Guard gets up to, but that conflicts with checking out the Far East too >_<

i mean, not necessarily? There are trade routs in the east that needs to be protected too...
and we can go there after we are done in the guard too...

Hopefully Steinarr can live a long and happy life without the specter of Horra looming over him.

Best revenge is a life well lived, plus killing your enemies, of course.

And maybe he can learn about Blackhand at some point.

His Saga's over, completed, finished, which means that he's probably on borrowed time now. He'll get some time for an epilogue, but I'd be surprised if he's still alive two years from now.

But he completed all the major goals of his life. He defeated his nemesis, gained the respect of all he witnessed, and we managed to prevent Horra from tarnishing that in the end. He also got to witness two of his children show that they're ready to stand on their own even without him backstopping them. By all accounts, he's won at life.
