I'm very doubtful of Eyvor not having a Bear given all her stuff screams that she should, while Beaver makes perfect sense for Hallbjorn. I think the bear is just doing double duty.
1 husband, who gave her cloak bear motifs, 4 kids, but only 3 old enough to call their fyjgla, somehow.
We saw Sigurdr call the albatross, so Asgeirr and Eyvor can go between wolf and beaver, but Hallbjorn was just born and Sigurdr needed around a year (or half) to call his so his twins who both have seeing eyes too, must have called them by now.

But we can wait for IF to come online and ask, to be sure.

As for the magic, it was just a suggestion.

But on the perception thing, I know it's just the dice playing fun, but Sten did advised we don't focus on just the enemy before us....
Question is, is it just us asking fister that after posts, part of planning, a trick for tactics or something else?

Halla already has Abjorn's bear motif on her Virthing: The Silver Clasp on her Virthing has a Bear Paw on it. She didn't have other Bear designs on her Virthing at the time. Thus, the other four designs adorning her Virthing should all be that of her children's Fylgjur.

Our Virthing's really getting a lot of love. It's showing huge amounts of information compared to our Frami and Saemd!

Which is to say we should avoid stoking it in battle except as the final Aspect. For the spar it's fine since Sten isn't getting any extra information since he knows basically everything already.

That's fair enough, though the Fylgja stuff is not actually wildly informative outside context, and even in-context not mostly in a useful way. Like, knowing her family's fylgjas is interesting trivia but doesn't do a lot to keep her from beheading you, y'know?

We still reveal it last in a real fight, don't get me wrong, as there's no reason to give that away, but it's not the most actionable intelligence.

Abjorn/Halla's House 2.0:

All the runic schemas need to harmonize, and should therefore work as a whole. They at the very least can't contradict, and ideally the edge/corner runes should match up where possible.
They should obviously protect the inhabitants.
And also give them blessings of sorts.
If we're using runes everything should be made of stone. We should probably be using stone anyway so it's harder to burrow through.

My Horra Sanctum Build:

No lookout variant (Owl with Halla)

Halla: Supported Arm, Dense Muscles, Offensive-Tuned Reflexes

Sagaseeker + Shield

32 RS-Layers over Halla's Body
16 RS-Layers over Halla's Armor
12 RS-Layers over Halla's Shield

(30 Orthsirr total)

Enemy needs to break through RS, Shield, RS, Armor, RS before getting to Frenzy and Endurance. Shield is preferred over 3rd Shapeshift slot because Shield + RS equals to an extra 2 trick attacks that can be withstood.

Owl: Spare Shields x6, 1x Empty Slot

Wielding 1 Shield (if possible)

Shapeshift: Sharpened Senses

You know it occurs to me that if we can store stuff in our soulscape and summon them to our hand whenever we want too, then..

..We could put a ton of boulders and throw boulders at people whenever. We could put in a shield and summon a shield whenever we have a shield break (or rather one extra shield every round). Of course, it probably doesn't work exactly like that..

My Horra Sanctum Build:

Shields aren't worth the shapeshifting slot. Not remotely. They do almost nothing Halting Vortex doesn't and anything that gets around Halting Vortex gets around them. So even 7 shields, if we took them, are saving us less than 30 Orthstirr which is not remotely worth it as compared to what we can get with shapeshifting.

Having Reinforce Shield over one is a slightly better argument (as it provides some slight anti-Trick Attack insurance), but not enough justification to take something that prevents our Hugareida use almost entirely until its depleted (especially since Halting Vortex is better anti-Trick Attack insurance than splitting the Reinforce Shield between a shield and armor), and make it much harder for us to pick things up when that's the whole reason we're here. To say nothing of it being bulky and awkward while we're trying to be sneaky.

A combat build in general is also likely not worth it...this is intended as a stealth mission and that means Sharpened Senses and Silent Steps (the owl having Sharpened Senses is likely not helpful for finding things within the sanctum since it's on lookout). The third slot can be argued to be another Silent Steps, but IMO should be used for combat just in case, specifically High-Twitch Muscles because speed is really good for us for a lot of reasons. I'd be a lot more likely to think switching the third slot to stealth is a good idea than switching the senses or stealth for combat options, though.

Now, nothing prevents us doing two instances of Reinforce Shield, one above the armor and one below, and doing that is likely a good idea, but I'm deeply unconvinced by any of the rest of that.

Boulders are a bad call when we're going into an enclosed space, and we need to experiment more with how the pockets work, so not for this mission I don't think, but experimenting with the Pockets and holding actual items is definitely on the agenda for our next research actions.

I mean, if somebody knows what their Fylgja looks like. They will recognize it if they see it again. So if for exemple they see an animal in the distance, they will suspect that it could be a Fylgja spying on them.

Fylgja are embodiments of a person soul, so you can use their form to study somebody personality. Somebody with a Wolf-Fylgja will have a different personality from somebody with a Raven-Fylgja.

Sure. But it's long-term useful...not so much 'how do I not get an atgeir through my face' useful, which is where I was going with that.

Very cool. 2 Reward Dice!
Oooo, nice. 3 Reward Dice.

Now, you've amassed quite the number of dice for yourself. While I won't say no to more fan-content, I'm gonna have to hold off on giving you any more until you've spent some of your current stockpile, so as to prevent any intentional or unintentional power-hoarding. Any content that you do make will have their reward dice held in reserve and will be given out once there is space.

Anyways, I'm home now and will likely be home for the rest of the summer. Which means more time for writing!

I'll give you another hour as, while the vote isn't especially split, it still isn't unanimous.

huzzah! More content! MORE!

Hey @Shard , why don't you burn some of that Reward Die stockpile on getting some hints for us? We've more or less exhausted the low hanging fruits so far, and some more inspirations wouldn't hurt.

Fair. @Imperial Fister is a rune-sequence to protect us from hostile magic viable, or would we need Seidr for that?
You can use runes to do that, yeah. I don't think that you've forgotten this, but do keep in mind that no defense is truly perfect.
'Hey, Blackhand. Do you know if it'd be possible to learn the Finnish magic Sten uses, even if we've opened the Gate and unlocked Odr? For that matter, did you ever learn Finnish magic, or any other culture's magic/equivalent?'
'For you? It would not be possible. Finnish magic requires the partitioning of your fylgja — if you aren't already Finnish, that is. That cannot be done if you have unveiled your fylgja. It's too real now.

Also you can only have one internal power. Odr for us, Zeal for the Christians, Henki for the Finns.'

'Internal' Power, huh, that seems important.

So, that means Orthstirr and Fervor and all that like are technically "External" powers. Presumably, as you develop, you become less reliant of External powers, but we're a long way from seeing how that works in our own system.

Cool. And yeah, the wording I went with isn't even an absolute effect...for damaging effects I'd expect it to be damage reduction ala Thickened Skin (if, hopefully, more like -2 or -3 than -1), not actual immunity, and bonuses to resistance rolls and similar 'better at resisting this' stuff rather than auto-wins, largely because that seems like it'll be a lot more reliable and harder to get around that way.

Yeah, that's about what I thought. And I was right about Henki as the Odr equivalent! I wonder if our Odr would be listed as 18/18 on a sheet like this and it's just to keep track or if there's an actual cap and we just haven't figured it out yet? If there is, ours is definitely above 18, since we've had more than that at one time...

And I guess that means Vaki is probably a second external power source? Or something like that anyway.

I'm not sure if you actually do become less reliant per se. Well, you do in terms of all your stats being permabuffed and Tricks getting to Mastered or Perfected, so I guess you do a bit...but only a bit. Like, I don't think the things that cost Orthstirr ever stop costing Orthstirr except in ways we're already aware of.

Odr as an "internal" force is interesting - after all, it may be stored inside, but it comes from literally Outside. Not necessarily surprising, as qi is the archetypal "internal" force but traditional Chinese cultivation involves bringing it inside with breath (though bringing it in from the land, not the spirit world). Wonder if that's true of Zeal and Henki as well? Zeal seems to be something you get from doing Christian knightly things, based on Gabriel's comment that we "gave" him Zeal by putting our quests in front of him (if I understood that sequence right).

I think the Internal/External thing is about where we keep it. We keep our Odr in a well in our soul...our Orthstirr isn't kept nearly that internally. Also, once we have Odr we have it and it's ours until we use it...Orthstirr can come and go more easily based on external factors.

Zeal is the general Christian/Feudal Internal Cultivation Resource, so it's from Faith and following your path rather than strictly knightly stuff...like, Jerasmus, for example, would also have Zeal and would gain it somewhat differently. It's knightly stuff for Gabriel because he's specifically on the path to being a knight.

I'm aiming for a few updates today, so they'll be pretty short all things considered.

'Hey, Blackhand? What is the wackiest/craziest power system you've ever encountered, and where did you run into it? Also - I'm not really expecting a detailed answer, but do you know of any potent Gale hugareida tricks? Are there more than one Wind hugareida...?'

And if there was some plottwist that cuts us of from external power, we could pay for non-perfected tricks with Odr.

Horra's Sanctum 1

The sky is dark and heavy with slowly-forming rainclouds when you arrive at the golden leaf-bearing tree you know to hide the entrance to Horra's sanctum. You take ginger steps as you make your way into the half-tamed clearing — while your wounds have sealed up and the broken bones have mended, your body is still tender from that spar with Sten.

You come to a stop before the towering oak as it creaks in a light gust of wind. Its golden leaves shine and shimmer in the moon's little light. The large, plate-wide knot sits prominently on its thick trunk — the Sanctum's lock.

A lock you lack the key for.

Your eyes scan the clearing, but nothing stands out from the dense, thorny brambles and dark, knot-rooted trees.

'Horra's father wasn't a moron and he nearly took me along with him when he died... but, from what I've seen, while Horra lacks his father's sheer combat ability, his mind is just as sharp if not sharper. I find myself doubting that he'd just leave a key lying around.'

You shrug. "There was a chance. You never know what you might find!"

'While that is true, you shouldn't assume that your enemy is a moron.'

"I don't assume that," you say with a scoff.

'Hubris, Halla.'

You scowl as he admonishes you, but deep down you know he's right. You manage to grunt out a 'sorry' as an embarrassed heat rises on your cheeks.

'Hubris was my downfall, I won't let it be yours.'

You nod before turning your attention back to the task at hand; getting into the Sanctum.

The only question is... how are you going to?
