Note: the throat strike won't make it do more damage. Norsemen are built different and they do not die from blows that, by all rational logic, should kill them.

They only die when they are forced to release their grasp on life.

It'd probably shut them up until it healed though. Do any relevant magics we know of require spoken words, or would it only be useful for silencing sentries and the like?

Damn. I wasn't expecting an instant kill, but would it have any effect or is that just a dud?

This, amongst other things. Some things require their head to be chopped off in order to be killed. Definitely would take someone by surprise, which might open them up for a follow-up.

A lot of seidr requires chanting.

I'm definitely down for that one then, if other people like it.

Shutting up people is situationally quite good (especially for spellcasters), and while we wouldn't always want to target the neck, it's a backup weapon so we can avoid using it when we don't want that.

Considering Horra seems like a vocal sort?
Cutting his neck might be pretty effective.

It also wouldn't shock me if his True Death was just waiting for an excuse to take him out, which something like that might count.

Alright. Added that to the plan, if people prefer a different rune combo they can speak up and I'll change it if a bunch of people object or have a better suggestion.

We can name it something to do with burning peoples' mouths or throats, which sounds like it could be fun, though I'm not coming up with anything specific right now.

Hey, are we going to return all the bodies back to wherever they came from?

I hope we didn't start a feud with ol sparky, whoever he is. Returning his body, even contaminated by steel, might maybe help?

Also if we want to make custom rune effects, how would we go about it?

Returning his body doesn't seem useful (given the contamination). Also screw that guy, he was a dick (leaving his people to die while he stood back watching is a dick move). For the rest of them, I'd leave it up to our new employees. They knew these people, so they best know what they have coming.

Also if we want to make custom rune effects, how would we go about it?

We just come up with a good wording, I think.

A sort of long-term thought....

Eventually, Abjorn's going to die. Hopefully not soon, but it's going to happen.

Once he does? That sword is going to be a problem.

Glowing circles of red light float on a sea of steel as you fix the Captain with your best glare. Odr, red hot and divine, springs up from the depths of the well in your soul. It swirls about you in a bloodthirsty frenzy as you drive it into the folds of Standstill. With skill born from years upon years of housework, you weave the strands of odr into the trick just like you were making clothes for your children.
This implies that the Housecraft skill (and maybe the Clothes skill-trick in particular) is necessary or helpful to weave Odr into attacks. I wonder if our inability to fold Odr into folded attacks is for a similar reason? Maybe we need to know some forging technique like Damascus steel that involves repeatedly folding iron.

I also wonder if the Captain not being True Dead is because the Nornir can't see/predict the use of Odr, so the Nornir hadn't foreseen that he'd die here.

I'm still surprised Abjorn didn't get a Kenning for that absolute nuts attack he did. 10 damage in one go is stupid. Especially since he didn't have any conditional damage boosters to add to it. He just hit really, really hard.
We could maybe write a poem about the fight and tell it around town? It'd be pretty funny for Halla to be going around town bragging up her man and how the moment he thought she was in trouble he pulled out some crazy earthshaking blows.

Yeah, the real cool thing is that once we've upgraded EWC to Mastery, we can actually start using it regularly in combat, instead of it just being something we whip out once in a while.

Flight is overpowered to anyone who can't fly.
We can also use EWC as a extreme speed boost in combat!

We can use it to do sudden charge attacks - Even when already in melee!

We could use it for a boosted Sidestep!

I still think we can upgrade Sidestep, incidentally. Like, especially if it's 1 vs Many,
1) See if we can do that Weaving thing that we tried back before we had Saga Establishment
...I think Imperial Fister's hint about doing it in our farm might actually be what we needed.

It's so obvious in retrospect! All Norsemen are Farmers!

We're trying to grow a farm/ecosystem/whatever in our farm!

Of course the foundation of our Farm is our farm!

...I think a good way to create a good 'Odr Condensation Room', might be to make like a ton of poetry, based off our feats, then cultivate based on our feats.
6) Prepare a killbox for when we tell everyone The Dealy so we can check the Enemy's immediate response.
What I have got figured is

A runestone with the effect of 'All defenders here are strengthened', all our posse in there, a bajillion prebuffs, and probably Seidr prep prep prep. Oh and a bajillion Explosive Runes for when people come attacking. Is it Nid/Odrengskapr to set traps, if you clearly label those traps it with 'Do not walk! Bombs ahead!'?

[X] You do and the twins join your household as huskarls.

[X] Plan Making Our First Weapon

How do weapons and armor acquire 'positive' Hamingja anyway, since it seems really easy for them to get negative Hamingja from the bearer being defeated?
Ooh, good question. I'll happily add a good rune sequence to the plan if people come up with one.
"I come down as the corpse-gulper rises, leave them wanting for what I arrived with." = I strike fast and leave my enemies slow.

(Corpse-Gulper = The Great Eagle that creates winds with the beat of it's wings.)

For Avow, perhaps we should craft a runestone and stick the sword into it, with an effect that only someone worthy can draw it... :V

I'm not sure it's exactly losing that costs Hamingja on the weapon. Like, I don't think the twins need to replace their gear after losing a single fight or anything...I think it's more taking the gear off a defeated enemy as that both implies a worse loss and gives you a weapon that might have a grudge against you.

I like this one, but I think for a backup weapon we want the throat-strike. This might be good on our main weapon when we reforge or replace it, though.

Probably by being used and serving faithfully for an extended period of time. Legendary deeds being done with them preferable. I imagine family heirlooms would have some? It's probably a fairly slow process. Unless you use them to slay a dragon or something.

Horra's Assets:

1x Sorcerous Sanctum (Most likely with horrifying horrors that we don't really want to know the clear details of)
2x 1x Felag (We rip apart the other Felag and Horra won't have a numbers advantage anymore!)
1x Hod Horrason (Archer, Prone to emotion?)
1x Knappr Horrason (Wrestler, Hates Us)
1x Hasvir Horrason (Water Hugareida)
1x ??? Horradottir (Seer, Clever, Traitorous???)
1x ??? Osborn Burrison ??? (Married) - By process of elimination this is the only brother 'left' among the 3 of Lori Burisson, Osborn Burisson, and Hod Horasson in the Ice Battle.
??x Ridiculous amount of Glue + Glue Traps
?? Alliance/Trade with Lukarling Dwarves
?? Lukarling assets?
??x Ballistae

So I'm not sure how absolute Standstill is, but if push comes to shove, we might be able to block Ballistae with IAT - They look like machines, so can't really use Orthsirr infusion that much. A couple of kindle-spinners could also blow them up. We would also want to like get 40 RS Layers if we want to do this in case we mess up.

Is the sap of the Sealwood tree flammable? If it is, that would also be exciting. Water may also make it non-sticky.

In addition to getting Horra outlawed, getting rid of the other Felag camp would also be really helpful - Numbers is a big deal. But it's dangerous to get at that one. We can also try to kill Hod and Knappr Horrason, or rather, since Horra can probably rez them, figure out a way where they go somewhere else, then keep them somewhere else, preferably on a permanent basis.

We might also want to figure out a counter to water-based Hugareida, it's our family's weakness right now. Standstill might work, but it also might not work.

---

I think I would like to see a writeup of Halla discussing this with her family.. I assume she is going to share all this with here friends and family, right?

2x 1x Felag (We rip apart the other Felag and Horra won't have a numbers advantage anymore!)

Sadly, this is inccorrect. He has somewhere north of a Felag's worth of people at home (it's like 12 families...add in Horra's kids and any of their kids who are old enough and we're talking around 20 people) and one remaining bandit gang of about 7. I'd say in total he still has about 2 Felags worth. He just had 3 to start with.

Our own assets have also grown to the tune of two very large men with a propensity for violence. So that's handy. We're actually getting to full felag size for the final confrontation (we now have us, Abjorn, Stigmar, Gabriel, the twins, Aki, Stigr, Halfdan and his two sons, Steinarr, Abjorn's dad, and plausibly a few others like Aki's dad, Stigr's other brother, Eric, or even Abjorn's brother).

But really, outside his kids (and plausibly even including some of them, like his daughter), a lot of the above assets may desert Horra if we get him outlawed. He's not the sort of guy who inspires 'go down with the ship' kind of loyalty.

We do know there's another unnamed Horrason as well, the one who was with Hod at the ice battle.

1x ??? Osborn Burrison ??? (Married) - By process of elimination this is the only brother 'left' among the 3 of Lori Burisson, Osborn Burisson, and Hod Horasson in the Ice Battle.

The Burrisons aren't really part of this, I don't think. We have no evidence they are, anyway. The one we killed was a Burrison, but we paid weregild so it's over unless we poke them. Certainly there's no evidence of an alliance between them and Horra per se.

I reread walk on the ice, and only now realize Hod's brother actually existed. They outnumbered us 4:3, had older and more experienced people too.

Dayum Stigr was pulling a lot of weight in that fight.

...No wonder Horra went and hit him with a curse. And probably killed his father as well.
