Note on the reward choices: they are all very good. I don't know if they're all equal, because that depends on personal taste, but they are all very good.

Nah, he had Ignition as well, you folks just never hit any of them.

Damn.

Wasted the berry, but was the KGT the decisive move here? We did way more damage than I anticipated with that, though the Countershock was absolutely devastating too, to the point where I almost feel like the only contribution we made was pissing him off too much to notice Sten finishing his Steel Arrow Storm.

Lightning Hugareida are not to be toyed with evidently.

Shit, you're also correct there.

Good lesson at least not to assume Halting Vortex is a panacea, and the ability to penetrate DR or Armor might be handy as well.

I mean, that's far from nothing.

I had a thought for a Trick aping Lindon's Hollow Domain from Cradle, but instead of filling the space around us with pure madra, do it with Standstill energy instead, basically a PBAOE slow effect that would work on projectiles and enemies both. But I'm not sure even that would have blocked lightning. 🤔

Lightning is just That Hard apparently.

If you hadn't done what you did, the Captain would've had enough orthstirr in the tank to defend against the finisher.

I'll give you a look behind the scenes here;
Countershock costs 80 orthstirr and cannot be reduced in price.

Woohoo!

Team Effort then! All three of our Heroes played a key part to defeating the guy! Abjorn made him wary, Halla made him blow his contingency, and Sten landed the finishing blow!

Was that 45 Orthstirr from winning the entire battle or just that one fight with another reward coming to all participants of the winning side?

Also, also, how many of the people on our side got a Muna out of watching and participating in this?

I mean the ones already acquired
Twists
-Punching Up (Cost 35 Orthstirr/7 Odr): When fighting an opponent twice as strong as you, your Combat Pool is multiplied by 1.5, rounding down.
-Hidden in Rags (Cost 18 Orthstirr/4 Odr): When dressed in rags, you can avoid unwanted detection as long as they don't know you're there. Getting detected by hostile Norsemen while wearing rags will cause them to laugh at you, which has the potential of giving you minor nid.

Muna
(X) First Kiss Under A Falling Tree - You remember how the world seemed to freeze as you and Abjorn kissed. Unlocks Standstill Hugareida.
(X) Lesson of Fire - You remember how your blood sang so sweetly as you plunged your hand into fire. You now understand fire, at least this level of it. Unlocks Ignition Hugareida.
(X) The Fight of Your Life... So Far - You remember how the thrill of battle pulsed through your veins. This grants you a bonus 5 dice to any single move in combat, once per fight.
(X) Vows of Love - You remember the vows you made on your wedding day, on the hilts of swords both old and new. This gives you a free trait lock-in/lock-out for your future children.
(X) Fighting Father Gerrit - You remember how it felt to have to punch up, outside of your weight class. Gives you Twist: Punching Up.
(X) The Return of Stigr - You remember how it felt to have your friend back. Gives you Twist: Hidden in Rags.

For reference.

"Your reliance on perfect defenses is an exploitable weakness."
Would it be possible to (not right now obviously) do a round of training where our much-more-experienced relatives help correct deficiencies they've noticed in Halla's fighting style instead of merely acting as sparring partners for her own self-directed training?

Also, I just realized a simple way to fish for more setting lore: go into town and listen to some music and tales. Get some of that living oral tradition

We could *probably* kludge together some kind of lightning rod trick with our atgeir with grandpa's help if we wanted to? Might be a bit too specific a threat to want to spend time on though?

What we need are more defense Tricks that don't rely on Halting Vortex. It's a good tool, but it isn't something we should rely on to form the cornerstone of our build.

That, and we need to upgrade to Mail, absolutely.

Yikes, that guy put the fear of God in me. Our KGT got him good, but that counter-shock was fucking devastating. It's no wonder it's so expensive. Good on Sten for being able to finish him off, and same with Alectai for suggesting that KGT. Sten definitely wouldn't have gotten the time to pull that off if we hadn't hit him with that.

He wasn't wrong, either. Our reliance on HV's perfect defense is something we should fix. I imagine that if our Standstill had a higher rank, it might've been able to withstand his puncturing effect, but there's no guarantee that there won't be an even stronger enemy who can break through it. Just something to think about.

It'd be cool if we could try and recreate the atgeir tricks he used in that battle. From what I can tell, he had a redirect trick, and some sort of trick that dealt with projectiles? He also had a trick that might've been side step? Although I don't think it was, since he never actually disengaged. He merely swayed out of the way of the hit at the last moment.
