Yeah, it's probably fine (though my pedantic side must note that whales are not fish, despite the fact that's just a joke), I just think asking is valid. Feeding him in his sleep, however, presents certain logistical difficulties...
Waking up from a long nap to find your mom got you food for when you wake up. What a decadent life Sagaseeker lives.

But we already don't actually have to pick in practice. We can already do those things simultaneously...we have two Instances on Sword, and three more on Atgeir (which can also be used for Guards). Like...you are suggesting we get a new ability to do something we can literally already do. That's why the objection.

That's honestly a fair point, but I guess what it comes down to is that it feels more elegant and simple to me if they can do both. It's cool to have a guard that also counter-attacks. Honestly I'd like the same thing four our spear guards too, although the Atgeir Counter-Stab's mechanics make that less immediately attractive.

This may not be completely rational, I'll admit, but we all have stuff that pleases our OCD I guess. 😅

Moving topic a bit, whalebone handle for Sagaseeker?

I know that a while back, we wanted to rune it so the handle could change length, actually, but never got around do it.

I mean, we may want to consider what would work thematically with Whale bone, considering they're apparently some kind of magical beast with serious power.
Not to mention, getting something to extend the already long reach of Sagaseeker just sounds like it either opens up weaknesses or does something we can already do well.

Depending on how fast he can shift it, to could be extremely useful in combat. Imagine we swing at someone, they move to block it, and then Sagaseeker becomes really short for the fraction of a second it takes to swing past the block and then extends again to chop the enemy in half, effectively letting us ignore a lot of melee guards/defenses

Will miss the shopping vote most likely, but it never hurts if we leave before nightfall :V

Sagaseeker can already shapeshift to any atgeir...so changing length is definitely on the agenda. And yeah, feeding him whale bone would work.

So Sagaseeker is a DF artifact? Among the various materials already incorporated he will soon menace with spikes of whalebone?
.... Whalebone serrated edge so there's a higher chance of bleeding. Won't be super useful for fighting against Norsemen since you have to drain a small lake out of them to get anywhere but still.

As you make to step beyond the boundaries of Johannes' home with full intent to hunt down a merchant who would be willing to discuss business, you pause at the door as a certain thought comes to mind. Resisting the urge to run a palm down your face, you lift a foot and pivot on the spot.

Johannes lifts a brow, "Had second thoughts?"

You grimace, "Something like that, yeah." You sigh as you stride across the floor and return to your still-warm seat, "You're a merchant, right, so what have you got for sale?"

Johannes chuckles as he calls for another serving of wine, "It depends on what you're after."

What are you after?

We do not need 5 magic whetstones, we want to keep at least a couple, but not 5 of them.

Our own share of the whale meat is only around 100...we actually probably want to keep that.

I bet we can have a Sword Guard that also attacks if we use two Instances on it.

That's another solution, tbf, although it would be cool to have two. Especially if sword strikes generate stoked dice with basic attacks, although I can't remember if they do.

Sagaseeker can already shapeshift to any atgeir...so changing length is definitely on the agenda. And yeah, feeding him whale bone would work.

I think the idea was that the handle would be able to change lengths so that Sagaseeker could be used like a sword if we were in close. If this is already a thing we've done, great, but I remember from our previous conversation that it wasn't, and adding runes to the haft specifically was something we were considering.

To be clear, when I was talking about whale bone for the haft, I meant removing the wooden shaft and replacing it with a whale bone one, since from Fister's description it's straight-up superior in durability and presumably other properties like the ability to hold runes. Although... I guess it depends how much the shaft counts as being a part of Sagaseeker, so maybe that's not the best idea? Spear shafts IRL often have to get replaced, but maybe it's a different deal. In which case yeah, I guess feeding him some is our best option.

They don't by default. We could probably make them with an Alloy. I don't think having multiple follow-up attacks per single normal attacks is a good mechanic or precedent to set though...that gets messy.

Ah! Yeah, we probably need something specific if we want to make him no longer an atgeir. His shapeshifting, while real, is limited to atgeirs.

I think any material replacement for Realized items is done by feeding them. That also has the advantage that Sagaseeker could swap between wood and whale bone for his haft, which might be relevant at some point.

Yeah, basically, we're interested in Weird Shit that we can either study or integrate in our crafting. We're thinking of playing around with some experimental techniques, and while we're not hurting for iron outside of big projects like mail, actual exotic materials are something we're lacking.

[X] bulk trade goods that are cheap here but would sell well back home. I assume Halla knows what those might be.

Edit: never mind we have a hold full of whale meat and bone don't we.
