[X] Plan Back To Hedeby

I really like Bartholomew and i am excited to see more of him.

When we can we should use 1 action to learn more abaout the new additions to our Household.

I am interested in seeing what the Slavic scholar can teach us, beside the Slavic language obviously.

We should also see what the other freed people can do, and what their skills are.

Maybe Lata wants to learn how to be a warrior?

Also, Asva and Jordan have taken over Stenby right? Will the name change or will they keep it? And what happened to Abjorn family farm? Did he inherit everything and those lands arr now ours?

When we have the action free, definitely. We do know their number of Work Dice, so they're helpful on the farm at least. And while we should teach Lata self defense, I suspect she's not temperamentally suited to being a warrior.

Yeah, they took it over. No idea on the name.

And what happened to Abjorn family farm? Did he inherit everything and those lands arr now ours?

We heard he was dealing with inheritance stuff but never got any real follow-up.

What if instead of glasses we turned our Owl into a Quill. A sort of 'writing implement' to play on Halla's story as a student and teacher, a poet, a writer, and a creator of historical texts? It seems like it could be as thematic a tie as glasses, though probably less combat boost-ing. But I think our combat skills are pretty damn good as is.

It just came to me as an idea for something that could resonate with an owl, object wise. A nice feather pen to write our thoughts down with.

They have pretty low Work Dice, if they want to work on the farm we should teach them something more.

I am not sure we have seen enoughof Lata to judge her temperament. But teaching her self defense is good either way.

We should see what is happening with that when we can.

With Vidar and Sten dead, and the farms of Aki and Stigr families abbandoned, we probably have the biggest farms in the Valley.

Vesna has 9. That's as much as Halla and more than anyone else but Abjorn. Lata is young and still has about as many as Stigmar...I'd say both of them are pretty good at farmwork. Kazimir is less so, but presumably has other skills.

She's nervous and scared. Of everything, seemingly. That's not a good attitude in a warrior. Now, learning to fight might change that, but I wouldn't bet on it.

We should, yeah. And Hasvir's is much bigger, for one. He still has all of Horra's land.

We should take over the Aki/Stigr and Abjorn lands, and create one super mega farm. And then have it accidentally turn into a mini-village as we rescue slaves and rehome them constantly.

At the moment, we cannot as a hold has been put on buying land (Corpsemaker could maybe lift it, but that'd tip off Dorri). We might be able to incorporate Vidar's due to inheritance, but not the others. In the long run, once we deal with Dorri, this is probably pretty close to the plan.

We're getting big enough we could really use some more land.

I mean, couldn't we incorporate the Stig-family's because we have the only remaining Stig as our person? Like, maybe not officially 'on paper' as Halla's farm, but I'm pretty sure Stigmar wouldn't take offense at us actually using his family's land for something. We don't even have to do it as an usurpation of his rights, and can promise it back to him if/when he starts his own family or when Stigandr comes back if he wants it?

I'm unsure of how property laws work in Norse society, so feel free to correct me.

My impression is that, people having deserted it years ago, it has reverted to Dorri as hersir. That was certainly the impression given when we attempted to purchase land a while back.

Fair, my memories of that interaction was mostly just 'yeah I can't sell you anything, its frozen', I wasn't sure if we specifically asked about the Stig family lands or anything. That's kind of sad, wish we had swooped in faster and taken it over as soon as Stigandr said he was gonna leave it. Would have been nice to have somewhere for him to come home to, where he grew up and stuff.

I suppose after we kill Dorri we can just buy the land (and Aki's) from Corpsemaker.

If we kill Dorri we won't be able to get out of becoming Hersir, meaning we'd be selling it to ourselves. Presumably we just need to pass Corpsemaker his usual cut.

I mean, that's him selling it to us, so I think it stands as is.

Though I don't think we will automatically become Hersir. If we didn't want to be it, he'd have to find someone else, and it'd probably lead to future potential conflict (unless it was family), because we'd be the strongest person but refusing to rule.

That said, I would embrace taking over the Hading. I still want to leave the lasting legacy of bringing Education to the masses as Halla's big thing. Teach everyone to read, write, and fight!

Yeah, I think this means we kind of have to be hersir. If we actively participate in bringing down the last one and have the biggest power base left in the valley after his death, I don't think we can bow out of the position without causing a huge conflict we don't want. I'm not wildly enthused about it, but it's not terrible either, and I think it's inevitable at this point if we successfully participate in bringing down Dorri and survive. Or, at least, not avoidable without really unpleasant consequences that are worse than taking the job.

Good points, i didn't notice that.

She was nervousand scared because she was a thrall in a foreign land. I don't think that is her normal attitude.

I don't think we know how big Horrby actualy is. We know its really big, but i am not sure its bigger than 3 other farms combined.

Sounds great to me.

It seemed much more pronounced in her than the others, who were in the same situation. I'm not saying she doesn't have a right to be scared, just that being nervous did indeed seem like a personality trait of hers.

Either way, we'd definitely give her basic self defense lessons. I think we're probably inclined to give those to everybody.

We might be able to get Eric or Asva or Sten (probably not Sten) to do it in our stead, tbh, and thus have it be part of the family, but not Halla's direct control. That would keep it from being a source of future conflict or fighting over powerbase, but keep Halla from having to rule.

Asva is the only one who seems like she'd be able to rule anything from what we've seen of our siblings, but it'd obviously have to be through her Man. Who is okay, but not amazing.

Halla compared it to the size of Hading (hading was bigger, but not massively so), and noted that Horra's land was less a farm and more a village in the making. So I wouldn't be too surprised if it was in fact bigger than three other farms combined.

Nah, if we get offered hersir it's on the basis of our own prowess and accomplishments as much as anything...I think if we turned down the offer, Corpsemaker would give it to another of his choice, not ours. I think we have to just take it. Which is probably fine.
