I'm going to need 2 Silver-Tongue rolls (27 dice), please, as well as that silly Bad Luck roll of yours (d100)

I'll do a Silver-Tongue roll.

Also, did you see my questions above?

EDIT: 20 successes on the dice, so 18 after all modifications (+2 and -4).
DeadmanwalkingXI threw 12 6-faced dice. Reason: Silver-Tongue Total: 42
2 2 2 2 5 5 5 5 2 2 2 2 4 4 5 5 6 6 5 5 3 3 1 1

Playing with fire there Kitty, but I think it still shook out to 10 even with all those horrifying 1s and 2s?

Rolling.
Oshha threw 12 6-faced dice. Reason: Silver Tongue Total: 53
6 6 4 4 6 6 6 6 1 1 4 4 5 5 6 6 2 2 6 6 6 6 1 1
Oshha threw 7 6-faced dice. Reason: Silver Tongue Total: 27
3 3 2 2 6 6 4 4 5 5 4 4 3 3

Alright, I guess I'll add the two dice to each roll, if that works? If that's not cool, just ignore these rolls.

EDIT: If those apply, that's 17 successes on the first roll, and 24 on the second, before bonuses. So probably 19 on the first and 26 on the second?
DeadmanwalkingXI threw 2 6-faced dice. Reason: Shapeshift Dice #1 Total: 5
4 4 1 1
DeadmanwalkingXI threw 2 6-faced dice. Reason: Shapeshift Dice #2 Total: 12

Tinder Blades is actually not sword conjuration. That's Smolder Sword. Also, we actually lack Smolder Sword (and Tinder Blades, for that matter). Making our weapon flaming is certainly cool and I'm down with trying to figure out how but this method may not be our best bet...too many steps from here to there.
Oh you're right, it is Smoulder Sword? Given that it's what, 1 or 2 Training Dice for us to get it to the point where we can practice messing around with it, it might be worth it?

Smoulder Sword might generally come in handy anyway as an option if we're ever disarmed/having to travel incognito. Although it's hardly a priority.

This seems valid to experiment with for our anti-army needs, yeah.

This would be nice if it works. Hmmm. I dunno if we can do at-will remote triggering, but we might be able to use runes as, effectively, a fuse, with the pigment preventing a fire from lighting the incendiary and then it going off when the pigment wears off...

Yeah, something with pigments or other ways ways of conditionally imprinting runes could be really clever.

Like, if it comes to it, for a lot of Tricks we can probably just invent a Seidr spell which does the same thing and is remotely triggerable, because Seidr has already a lot of stuff with conditionals/remote triggering and it should be relatively easy to jury-rig a magical fuse, tripwire, or remote detonator.

But being able to actually have a more general-purpose solution for storing Tricks and remotely triggering them would be neat in terms of the sheer options it would open up, and taking advantage of our existing array of Hugareida. One to ponder.

My thoughts on Halla and inheritance and next main characters:

I'd prefer Halla to die, for a myriad of reasons.

The first one is simple: Charred Soul, the basis of the quest and main character status was always advertised as being based on death. It Makes sense for the passing of the Charred Soul and the status of one of her children as heirs to it still follows that. The quest was advertised in its first posts as 'you will continue after death with the knowledge passing down', after all.

The second is more about primacy: I don't really want Halla around stealing heat with how cool she is. Because she is really cool, she's really talented and strong, and one of the best smith's on the planet as far as we know. She's making strides in making new cultivation technology. I wouldn't want to have her pause all that and retire to be like Steinnar, only showing up a couple times to be badass, because I don't feel it fits. But I also wouldn't want her around making strides off screen.

The third is more personal: I think her death will be more interesting and impactful if it comes while she is still Our character. If we die in an epic battle while we control her that will be a really cool scene and a fun time. If she dies once she's a side character I feel like it'd be less cool. I want us to be in control when she makes the final fight that ends her life.

And the fourth is most simple, kind of building off number 2: I don't really want her around as a safety net for people to vote to go rely on for help if things get bad. I mean I'm sure we can all agree the best parts of Boruto are when the Naruto era characters all show up to throw down and solve every problem by being OP, but I don't think it'd be cool as a MC thing for us to be doing.

The fifth is simplest: Halla dying to someone or something is great motivation. Built in.

So, I agree with a lot of this, but I think the issue is about timing?

Halla dying during the quest is inherently more impactful than if it happens during a time skip. This is also true in terms of feeling like we've had a safety net removed. Also, if we're talking about safety nets... if we're serious about making the sequel quest a bit more adventuring-focused, and I definitely am, then I think a security blanket for the early plot arcs which slowly recedes is pretty much ideal?

Otherwise we're asking the quest to accept quite a sudden spike in their appetite for the amount of risk and peril we regularly encounter, and I forsee that potentially getting difficult and leading to some unfun arguments. Gradually upping our risk tolerance like adding more hot water to a bath feels like a much more sensible approach to me. Actually, I'll be blunt: I think it's the only way I seriously seeing it working and making everyone happy.

having to travel incognito.
Can I quickly point out our Armoury Pocket, where we can stick Sagaseeker and then just pull him out in a panic, and we can also stick Ashen Kiss and Burning Caress in our Fylgia and replace a few of the shield spam slots. Yeah, we wouldn't have Emberguard, but we can expand the Armoury Pocket with our free end-of-year orth at some point and then do it

Smoulder Sword might generally come in handy anyway as an option if we're ever disarmed/having to travel incognito. Although it's hardly a priority.

We have so many different extradimensional storage spaces, most notably our Armory Pocket, that we probably don't need to worry too much about this. And a Smoulder Sword probably can't be Sharpened which would be a big problem with it.

I'm also still not sure if it's the right path to making an existing weapon flaming.

Figuring out a way to do this in general would be handy, yeah.

So, I agree with a lot of this, but I think the issue is about timing?

I agree with most of this. If Halla dies as we play her that's one thing, but if she survives being a PC it's better for her to die only when narratively appropriate in her kid's story, not as soon as we start playing them.

In particular, I don't actually want our next character to be basically forced to be Entirely Focused On Vengeance right from the get-go. That doesn't sound like what we want from our next character at all, honestly.

The lodging with the local landowners wasn't anything special, though you did receive some fine praise for a gift of wrought iron gilding.

Talking to Hakon Thunderclap (Silver-Tongue: 17+1(Friendly)+1(Beautiful)) 19 Successes
Hakon Thunderclap was once an angry young man who wondered why his brothers had died. He wanted to know who was responsible for their deaths and boy did he want his vengeance. The fact that he thought you may have had a hand to play is no secret, the man he is now is open to talking about how stupid he was.

Hakon Thunderclap was once an angry young man, but now he's grown into a man of renown and valor. With eyes lacking any ounce of fear, he dives headfirst into battle seemingly without a care in the world. Lightning arcs across his body as he strikes left and right, his sword biting deep into the foes daring to stand before his advance.

There's no doubt in anyone's mind that Hakon has potential—the lightning wrapped around his arms is more than proof enough. Hakon seems to grow leaps and bounds as he climbs the rungs of power, which makes him all the more appealing to have in your ranks.

"Hey, Hakon!" You call out the tall man as he slings a rope-tied keg across his shoulder—his takings from the Grodno raid. Hakon pauses, his agile fingers in the middle of buttoning up his shirt. "You got a minute?"

Hakon thinks to himself for a moment as the wind plays through his reddish-blonde hair—cut short for the helmet dangling from his neck. "I've got a couple, sure," he eventually nods and sets the keg down. Using it as a seat, he turns his attention upon you. "What've you got?"

"Well, I was wondering what your plans were for the future," with a flick of the wrist, you Recall a nearby stool from where it sits in the hall of tonight's host. Dropping it at your feet, you recline across from Hakon before continuing, "I'm trying to secure some more huskarls for my house."

"Makes sense," Hakon nods as his eyes flick towards your husband, "I heard about the circumstances leading up to Steinarr's death, how they were threatening your family." He shakes his head with a grimace on his lips as once-scarred-over pain surfaces again behind his eyes, "Wanting more warriors to better protect them is smart thinking."

"What're you thinking of the offer?" You incline your head as you lean in, eager to see his answer.

His lips thin as he thinks for a long time. "I think," he eventually begins with narrowed eyes, "that I can only offer my services for a few years. I'm going to make an offer to Aud Oldlaw to marry his daughter once I return," if you didn't know better, you'd swear you caught a flicker of a twitch from someone in the hall's crowd, but it was gone far too fast for you to tell, "and I want to be able to say that I have my own land as part of it, but being your huskarl is equally as valuable as empty land, I reckon."

"Aud Oldlaw's daughter?" That's Audrikr's father, the Lawspeaker of the Hading.

Hakon nods, "Audrun, yeah." There's a faint grin on his face as he thinks to the woman he would try to marry, "It won't be easy, not with Audrikr demanding to duel anyone who'd marry his sister, but I reckon I can make a decent enough showing."

You snort, "Good luck, Audrikr's no joke." Especially in these past few years! The man's strength rose like the sun after Folkmarr came of age.

"Thanks," Hakon tightens his jaw as he nods, eyes fierce and defiant, "but neither am I. I'll take you up on that offer of yours, at least for a few years."

"Alright," you grin as you reach out to grasp his hand, "I'll let you know if I have need of your services!"

Just as Hakon goes to meet your wrist with his own, the squat, literally pig-nosed manager of the farm you're lodging in emerges from nowhere with a rather cross look on his nearly-concave face.
Talking to Alvis Torleifsson (Silver-Tongue: 24+1(Friendly)+1(Beautiful)+1(First Impressions)) 27 Successes
"Yer man's on the roof," he jerks a thumb towards the open door behind him, "Get him down, wouldja?"

Sharing a brief glance with Hakon—who merely shrugs. He's got no horse in this fight, after all—you frown as you turn back to the manager, "Who is on the roof?"

Joe Pignose grunts as an answer while his boulder-like shoulders rise and fall, "Iunno his name, the one that's all wise and shit."

"Alvis?"

"Sure," Pignose grunts, "whatever, just get him down. He's gonna scare the crap outta the kids if he falls and fuckin' splats."

You sigh and rub at the bridge of your nose. Cursing the fact that you ever had the idea for this stupid expedition, you follow Joe Pignose as he leads you to where Alvis Torleifsson balances at the highest point of the house's sweeping, bow-shaped roof. With arms stretched out to either side and his eyes gently shut, he sways in time with the wind as you stare with no small amount of confusion.

Cupping your hands around your mouth, you call up to the younger man, "Alvis! What in all the worlds do you think you're doing up there?"

"Learning to fly," he answers without an ounce of hesitation, like he'd been waiting for you to ask him that, "so that I may remain spry."

"What." It's not so much a question as it is a simple statement of confusion.

The corners of his mouth quirk up as his eyes open just a crack. His mouth opens as he starts to speak, only for a surprisingly strong gust of wind to catch him off-balance. His arms flail as he's knocked loose and thrown into a tumble. You tense, ready to throw yourself into motion to catch the archer, but in your heart you know that you won't make it.

Pignose winces as Alvis hits the ground, a sigh slipping free of his lips, "Guess that was a wa-"

"Wait," you stop the pig with a hand as a grin of your own slips across your face.

Alvis releases his grip on the winds as his shoeless toes gently alight on the grass. Striding towards you with his head held high, he offers a hand your way as he greets you with an answer for a question you haven't asked him yet, "You see I be a Skald-to-Be. Further huskarls you seek, that much is clear. Have no fear, Sword of Sunlight, for your ranks shall soon see me!"

You blink as the young man—barely old enough to call himself that—waits for your answer.

'Skalds,' Blackhand sighs as you take Alvis' hand.

AN: And there we go, update done

No moratorium as it is a bit late

Well. That went well! And interestingly. I think we take both of them up on the offer though Hakon's situation is...troublesome. Given that Audrikr, while a good dude and a friend, is sworn to Dorri. I think we probably still recruit him, but don't outfit him as thoroughly as our sworn men.

In fact, just in general, I think we stop making armor except for people who swear to us. Not weapons, we can still make those for all retainers, but armor is more expensive for us by a fair bit, and would be more of a problem to see arrayed against us.

In terms of voting:

[X] Head to Johannes and turn in your quest

We have a bunch of whale meat to sell, including some currently in his ship, but he might actually be willing to buy it, and will likely be reasonable about us taking a minute to vacate if not. He may also have stuff to sell us if we have the free space.

@Imperial Fister how much space are we gonna have in the ship after our people sell whatever meat they're selling here in Hedeby? And what's up with the three questions I asked previously? (Found here).
