Im pretty sure rainbows are involved somehow in the burl process, mostly because we saw a burst of rainbow when we used one, although that could only be necessary for travel between realms.

Summer 11/Turn 2
[X] Plan Tying Up Loose Ends
-[X] Take A Trip
--[X] Jurgdby and then to finish things up on our job for Johannes

-[X] [Social] (Personal) Spend time with...
--[X] Tell Asva and anyone else in our family who doesn't know about Dorri's treachery the truth via Eyespeech while taking serious precautions.
--[X] We will coordinate with Sten and Solrun to make our family conference on this subject as private as physically and magically possible (including using runes found [here](https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/threads/norsequest-a-norse-xianxia.113540/post-29872103) if viable).
--[X] Abjorn
--[X] Odr Initiation, very gradually, using our new spell
-[X] (Exploration) Go on a walk through...
--[X] The Hading!
---[X] (Optional) Try to find the Heart of the Hading

-[X] (Seeress) Learn seidr with the Seeress (Only available during Summer)
--[X] Ask Solrun to explain the various uses a seeress has for a Fylgja. We feel like we're missing something fundamental here having had most of our Fylgja education from warriors.
--[X] Ask Solrun about the Fylgja of other people in the valley with revealed ones, our main interest iis in Dorri's family and Framarr's ant thing in particular, but we'd ask abbout it as part of other stuff just in case
--[X] Check with Solrun if our idea for the bridge and burl is on the right track. Basic idea can be found [here](https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/threads/norsequest-a-norse-xianxia.113540/post-29875202), for referenc. To be clear, we're mostly making sure this isn't completely wrong-headed and dangerous, not asking for the definitive answer.
--[X] Learn more about privacy warding...we want the best and most comprehensive privy wards possible and her help in making those
--[X] Ask Solrun about the mountain of metal and that whole thing, noting we've had feelings that it's something in our family lineage. She's not likely to know the martial style itself, but she might know who or what it's based on, especially given her and its respective connections to Ironjaw.
--[X] How can I help someone through a nidheart, especially a more mundane one without a spirit involved...is there some spell for that, and if not do you have any advice?

-[X] (Research)
--[X] Plant a Drill-Well Tuber and a Blood Seeking Petal in our Soulscape, feed each **3 Odr** and see what happens
--[X] Examine the borders of our soulscape and how this has effected them, specifically looking at the new Gotland section – 1 Research
--[X] Attempt feeding our spirits in our soulscape actual food, both Odr grown and not (should cost **3 Odr** and 1 Food if we use 3 of each)...see if different varieties have different effects (ie: feeding one all Odr-grown plants, another all meat, a third all mundane plants, and so on) – 1 Research
--[X] Try and identify the traits of the following items and how they work: The vial of blood, the weird stick thing (pen?), the weird teeth necklace, the false eye, the strange substance from the Underhouse, the katana – 6 Research
---[X] Use Identify Concept and Sundersight alike to help with this
--[X] Teach Abjorn how to read – 3 Research
--[X] Meditate and practice on the parent Style of Time Stands Still. Our goal is to develop a core movement enhancement technique to serve as a foundation for the rest of the Style, similar to how Stoked Dice function for Stoker State. Using our extensive practice with breathing exercises and our recent experience watching Careful-Stepper, we will work out how to use our carefully rationed breath and integrate "hops" of Stopped Time into our ordinary movements and attacks, making us faster and much more difficult to predict as we appear to stutter in and out of time. – 1 Research and 1 Reward Die courtesy of [@Skippy](https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/members/166/)

New Tricks
(Stoking Cleave (Cost 12 Orthstirr/3 Odr): A spin-off of Stoking Strike that allows one to deal damage to all those in reach of the attack. Damage is split between those afflicted by it.)
(Tendon-Cut Trick, taught by Abjorn (Cost 4 Orthstirr/1 Odr): A relatively simple trick that focuses attack power on cleaving through a limb's tendons. Deals no damage—as a lost tendon won't kill—but it does disable a limb if successful.)
(Sunshine Slap (Cost 300 Orthstirr/60 Odr): You slap your foe with the full, unbridled power of the sun.)
(Sunfire Spear (Cost 400 Orthstirr/80 Odr): Forming a spear of sizzling sunfire, you hurl it at a foe at distance.)
(Atgeir Strike (Cost 8 Orthstirr/2 Odr): A trick that swings a spectral atgeir at your foes.)
(Lie Sense (Cost 8 Orthstirr/2 Odr): A General Hugr trick that allows one to detect lies. It is simply a refinement of one's own lie detection senses.)
(Raven's Unriddling: A Weave Spell that allows one to detect deception.)
(I'm just not gonna give you folks a wide scale sunfire trick because it's just too powerful for that sort of thing)

Planting Drill-Well Tuber and Blood-Seeking Petals
With every drop of odr, the Drill-Well Tuber burrows deeper into your soul as it searches for water. Finding some—from where is uncertain—it begins to sprout a sort of faucet from its top, from which water pours. The nearby formless blobs of spirit-matter eagerly lap up the liquid and seem to grow a bit stronger as a result.

The Blood-Seeking Petal grows larger with every drop of odr. Three pinkish-white petals unfurl into a flower as six more buds prepare to bloom. If you want more petals, you reckon that you'll have to give it more odr.

Examining the borders of your soulscape
Where once the mountains of the valley contained it utterly, now the 'bottom' range has fallen away to form a pebble beach at the edge of a newly-grown sea. In the distance, you can see the black line of land peeking over the waves—the facsimile of Gotland your heart still throbs for.

Feeding tomvaettir some food
Feeding a tomvaett some grain, the tomvaett yawns and curls up into a sort of 'ball'—at least as close as an amorphous being can get to that. It seems to grow some manner of film over itself, like a cocoon. You reckon that, whatever it will transform into, it'll happen in the coming months. You also imagine that, if you so desired, you could possibly even influence the outcome.

Similar things happen when you feed the tomvaettir meat, fish, fruits, and vegetables.

Identifying
Identify Concept:
-Vial of Blood: It appears to be cow's blood.
-Weird Stick Thing: It's a writing utensil, like a stylus
-Weird Teeth Necklace: It's clearly a necklace of trophies, perhaps allowing one to summon past kills to assist them?
-False Eye: It may serve as a replacement eye should you somehow lose on.
-Strange Substance: It's Carbon Flour, as described by the dwarves
-Sword: It's got one edge and is slightly curved, it's obviously just a weird-looking saber, like Songbird had. The circular guard and longer handle are probably just stylistic choices.

Sundersight has no input on them.

Travelling to Jurgdby
Jurgdby spreads out before you as you come in for a landing. Well over three-hundred people call the town of Jurgdby home and boy does it look it! Sometimes, you forget just how few people actually live in the Hading, especially when Jurgdby alone almost matches the entire Hading's population!

Landing in one of the surrounding fields, you get a good look at the place you are to be visiting. Jurgdby is a town with three sections. One is for the Jarl and his Kyrsvikingar, another for their families and other affluent persons, and the third—easily the largest of the lot—is made up of all the lower-status Karls and Thralls of the town.

Most of the town is busy preparing for the harvest that is soon to be coming. Granaries are emptied out of old stock, mothers stalk the markets for storage that they can't make at home, meat hooks are being sold by the bundle, the town is alive with the farmer's trade.

It seems you caught the Kyrsvikingar at the end of a successful raid on Slavic shores, as about thirty or so fresh Thralls are available in the markets, alongside all their once-belongings. Most seem to be women and children, but there are a few fierce-eyed warriors clasped in chains. Some of the Thralls even seem to be nobility, of a sort!

...You know, buying one of those Thralls may be a good way to get information on that quest you're on.

Regardless, the town is alive and prosperous and open to you.

What do you do?

AN: Apologies for the low quality of this one. I had a rather frustrating day, but I did manage to get this done so that, at least, is nice.

No moratorium.

(+1 Progress to Jarl-in-Training)

Shouldn't this be +2 or did Eyesteinn not swear? EDIT: Answered elsewhere, he did not. Only Kare swore. So we have two unsworn retainers who can add to Jarlsoul if we can convince them...

Either way, I think we go sell Corpsemaker our clay, and maybe have a chat.

[X] Visit the Jarl's hall

My vote after that will be to go see the shapecrafter. Then the thralls, probably.

[X] Head to the Shapecrafter's den

I said I wanted to be able to turn money into power. I'm voting for it.

[X] Visit the Jarl's hall

But I also think this is smart I suppose. Though I'm not sure if we wanna visit just to sell stuff. Amusingly enough we have done all our business dealings through Jarls/Kings/etc rulers. We've never sold our merchandise just... at market.

I wanna visit to talk about Dorri potentially though, and at least make some indication of what we suspect/know.

But I also think this is smart I suppose. Though I'm not sure if we wanna visit just to sell stuff.

My thought is that bulk healing clay is a strategic and logistical asset for a Jarl and he's thus the logical person to sell it to. That would not be true of all commodities, but a giant load of healing stuff? Seems like it's the right sort of thing to sell to a Warband.

Eventually some Jarl or other ruler somewhere is gonna respond to us showing up at their doorstep for a meeting with 'who? Did I ask for you? Go away.' And be annoyed instead of appreciative of our 'respect' for going to them first.

I don't think that's gonna be today, or even in this lifetime with how Halla's reputation is growing. But it is pretty hilarious how we basically keep going up to the doors of Nobility and going 'hey we are visiting just wanted to say hi, btw you wanna buy some stuff?'

Money to power, but Twists are also power!

I want that nonlethal twist.

1) Does it 'feel' like the tomvaett you fed food to are evolving in 'different' directions, or the 'same'?
2) By the way, are there fish/seaweed/sea monsters/etc h in your soulscape ocean, or is it more barren and lifeless?
3) What's the 'range' of your Inverted Extinguish? Can you modulate it, increase the range, shorten the range? Are all your Fire Hugareida subject to it, including Sunfire?
4) Can you, using your Hugareida control a matching element that you didn't summon? For example, can you use Clearwater to control water you didn't summon? Can you use Campfire to control campfires you've made mundanely?
5) How does the 'Hugareida Cancel' work out? Can you choose not to cancel the Hugareida of someone with less understanding than you? Can you go a step further and - Well say Hal Wolfhound threw a Kindle-Spinner at you, could you make that Kindle Spinner 'yours' and then throw it right back at him?

Interesting, in what directions we can have the tomvaett grow? What could be useful?

One possibility would be having them grow in farmer spirits and make them start their own farms in the Soulscape. Or maybe hunter spirits who we can send against our enemies. Any other ideas?

Weird Teeth Necklace: It's clearly a necklace of trophies, perhaps allowing one to summon past kills to assist them?

This is VERY interesting. We should test it when we can. It could be really powerful.

If we don't use it, we can give it to Abjorn or Sigurdr.

Halls has a very high opinion of her standing, and of the value of her time.
Well, she is an independent land owner with sworn warriors and a ship of her own. That's about as close as you can get to being a Jarl without actually being a Jarl.
1) Does it 'feel' like the tomvaett you fed food to are evolving in 'different' directions, or the 'same'?
Different directions
2) By the way, are there fish/seaweed/sea monsters/etc h in your soulscape ocean, or is it more barren and lifeless?
There is nothing in the soulscape ocean
3) What's the 'range' of your Inverted Extinguish? Can you modulate it, increase the range, shorten the range? Are all your Fire Hugareida subject to it, including Sunfire?
Uncertain

You've never tried

If you're given an incomplete puzzle and you've got some of the missing pieces, you can choose to add them to the puzzle. You may also choose to keep the puzzle pieces to yourself.

Halla's close enough to Jarl that she's got some genuine political sway, she just has generally favored keeping things neutral.

Eventually some Jarl or other ruler somewhere is gonna respond to us showing up at their doorstep for a meeting with 'who? Did I ask for you? Go away.' And be annoyed instead of appreciative of our 'respect' for going to them first.

tbh honest we aren't really just knocking on the door just to say hi, its more like 'Hi, Im selling some strategic goods here that are very useful in warfare, thought to offer you first pick". and given that thus far we traded whetstones, wood for shipbuilding and now healing clay for combat, I think most rulers will kinda appreciate that first pick at those sort of materials.

Meanwhile in Valhalla (Shard)
Meanwhile, in Valhalla

Steinarr looked at the other Einheri, the one his Fylgja indicated.

An Einhenjar with hooks for nails. Hooknails, Abjorn Hooknails.

"So.. how did you die?"

It seemed just the thing to ask.

"I was in a duel, a duel to the death with this woman named Halla Skyfire, Sunshine, now-"

That feeling in his heart - That was pride! His daughter! He invoked his twist, turning his face to stone - Smile now, and he wouldn't hear of his daughter's glories.

"Blasted my runes clean with Clearwater of all things, then I brought her down to earth in return. I decided there and then, finish her off with mass homing spears all with Puncture."

Twists, alas, only went so far, and his face cracked under the weight of his smile. Luckily, laughs at deaths were all common, so the Hooknails didn't notice. Yet.

"She turned it all back on me, of course she did. Slowed them down, then parried every hit and turned into a freaking incinerating beam on me that got half my body. Then hit me with those Sparkbombs, then I went through to Berserkergang."

Hooknails took a long drink in frustration. Then frowned.

"The hell, why are you smiling so hard?"

Steinarr had gotten what he came for, so -

"Halla's my daughter. She so fills my heart with pride!"

Shortly afterwards, Steinarr had his first kill of an Einhenjar in Valhalla, and Hooknails his first death there.

===

AN: Steinarr says that Halla's brews are the best, because she made them. No other reason is needed. After all..

"I'm gonna embarrass all the other einherjar from how hard my children outclass theirs!"
