So there's quite a few skills we can rank up. Some.of which might be very useful on this journey. I honestly think dumping xp into sailing could be a worthwhile thing to do, to help against potential bad luck.

You're forgetting the base stats. This trip as a whole provides us a huge pile of xp. If we focus with it a bit, we can raise some of the stuff you list and wind up raising our actual base stats, which is a lot easier now than back home.

So, the whole journey is like 12 days (plus how long it takes us to get back which at minimum is 5 days) that means we get at least 510 XP to distribute over the whole journey that's basically the total we need to push Hamr to 10 (I'm no actually sure how our training items interact with the fact that were traveling).

And 10 seems like a major stepping stone that would be nice to cross.

So, that's actually one way, so the return trip will also gain us xp. If we choose to focus on it we can end this trip with Hugr 11 and either Hamr 10 and Fylgja 9 or Hamr 9 and Fylgja 10, as well as some other stuff. I think the Fylgja 10 is more useful short term, and would favor that over Hamr on this trip (we'd then focus our base stat gains on Hamr once we're home).

Base stats are good but when it's between getting 3ranks of a good skill like Silver Tongue + 1-2 scattered around to lesser skills, I feel like it kinda wins out over one rank of Hugr.

Like if I'm reading the math right we could get 3 ranks of silver tongue, raise all our combat skills to 5 that aren't at 5, get design to 6, get composure to 6, get sailing to 7, and get glima and Stoker State up one rank each, for the cost it'd take to get Fylga to 10? And still have some left over?

One rank of Hugr gives +1d to 15 different skills (including many skills we actually use, such as all the crafting skills), +1 Rewrite, an Alloy Slot, and +2 Capacity. It does a lot. It actually gives more skill dice than your suggestion, outside combat, and frankly, an extra Rewrite is likely more of a combat boost than a pile of combat pool dice which are nice, but not all that nice at this point.

Also, I think you're neglecting what we have Training Items to improve. Hugr is 127 xp to raise...a lot of the things you list are things we don't have items for and are thus a lot pricier.

I counted the return trip (well the minimum time it would take if we don't take any detour's on the way back).

Well it depends, keep in mind that aside from a +1 Dice to all hugur/flygia/hmar skills the base atriubute also give other things, with Hmar giving extra shapeshifting slots, huger alloy slots (and another use of the rewrite ability) and I don't remember what flaygia gives.

Other then that of course are the thresholds, getting to 10 hmar is a lot mor valuable then getting to hamr 9 because we get something special from it.

Thats a good point. Can you help me out by helping to detail the training items we do have? I find it hard to keep track of them all and how good they are.

They're in the Equipment Tab. Short version, we get doubled xp on:

Hamr, Hugr, and Fylgja
Chop, Pierce, Slash, Tactics, Shoot, Throw, Silver-Tongue, Wordplay, Scouting, Wildcraft, all crafting skills.
Glima, Fang, Standstill

EDIT: We also get doubled xp on Stoker State and quadrupled on Fire Hugareida, but that's from Traits, not items.

Also, looking at it, I think your math is just wrong. Skill costs double every level. The current costs are for the next level, not every level. +3 Silver Tongue is 112 xp even taking a Training Item into account (it'd be 224 otherwise). +2 Sailing is 96 xp more. As is +2 Composure. And so on. The math doesn't work out, I don't think.

I counted the return trip (well the minimum time it would take if we don't take any detour's on the way back).

I think if we end up in Uppsala it's more than 5 days to get back. It's also taking us at least one extra day due to being heavily laden.

Other then that of course are the thresholds, getting to 10 hmar is a lot mor valuable then getting to hamr 9 because we get something special from it.

We do, though Fylgja 10's special thing is probably a lot more useful outside combat.

[X] Plan We Have Silver-Tongue For A Reason

I assume our large crew won't be too much of a penalty to the rolls here?

-[X] Talk to a Crewmember
--[X] Sten
--[X] Ask him what the Price of Steel is. We don't want to make it, but knowing more about it seems very relevant, especially if we're gonna be dealing with Steelfathers going forward

So, I would suggest a rewording here:

--[X] Ask him about the true nature of Steel, including its Price. We understand his concerns, much better now than when we first spoke of it years ago. We have no desire to forge Steel for any useful purpose, and are willing to swear an oath to that effect. But we need to understand more about it if we are to learn how to defeat it, as we may need to deal with Steelfathers in the future. If he says this is impossible, remind him of our grandfather.

Also... shouldn't we tell him and Eric about our divination? Or should we wait until after we've deposited the ashes/are somewhere we can't be spied upon?

I might say the same thing about this conversation, honestly, although I'm conflicted because I'd really like this to happen.

So, it is. It's -7 successes total. That said, we almost certainly have +2 as well (from First Impression and Friendly), for a total of only -5, maybe better (if Beautiful or Drengskapr or other stuff applies). We have about an 87% chance of getting 6 or more successes on a Silver-Tongue roll. Our odds on three in a row are obviously lower, but still not bad at all.

So, I would suggest a rewording here:

Sure, done.

Also... shouldn't we tell him and Eric about our divination? Or should we wait until after we've deposited the ashes/are somewhere we can't be spied upon?

I was waiting until we had Eyespeech taught to Eric and Asva was there to have the 'who killed dad' conversation. We want that as secret as possible, and we don't want to repeat it often.

For the Steel conversation, since he's not gonna tell us how to make it, just the Prices, I think we're good honestly. Like, that's not secret info we want to hide and if Dorri did get wind of it, he's gonna think we're prepping for conflict with Corpsemaker rather than him.

I think Sten will be reluctant to talk about steel in the public setting of our boat

We can find privacy one way or another...I'd be shocked if Sten didn't have ways and means there and so do we. I'll add a note to that effect to the plan. We could also assume it happens on land at night, depending.

I really feel like writing the next update today so I'm going to go ahead and call it in an hour, if that's alright?

Honestly I'm shocked you keep the votes open as much as you do, since it seems like the plan that's gonna win gets finalized a good ways away from the cutoff.

I wouldn't say that. Plans often get adjusted over time...sometimes only in minor ways, but sometimes in pretty important ones.

That said, I'm pretty sure it's entirely fine in this instance. I'll go over the plan and make sure.

EDIT: Cleared up some formatting and one major error...I somehow only had 60 xp rather than 90 in the plan. That's fixed now.

Well, I like to post the same day I call the vote and have pavloved myself to do that, so it would take some adjustment that I just don't feel like doing this late in the game

Alrighty, lets rock. I'll need 3 Silver-Tongue checks, please

--[X] Using various means to ensure this is as private a conversation as we can arrange (Sten may have his own methods, we'd do Eyespeech and Warding and likely do it somewhere a bit away from others on land). If Abjorn, Eric, or our huscarls want in they could potentially do so, but nobody we know less well.
