If they stay underground for a long time should we teach someone Unending Time in the Sun? so they can avoid the side effects of staying underground?

Yeah, that'd be a necessary part of the plan if we did that. Which is fine, Minna and Randi would both likely be there, along with Haydis. We have some choices. This is a bit of a long term plan and we need to clear the place out to start with to even do it, so we have a bit of time.

Will we teach Seidr to our children too? And when will we start training them?

We'll definitely teach them rote seidr like most women learn. The healing stuff at the very least and, like, Banishing Rebuke if we can. Whether they get initiated is a slightly thornier question and depends on if they're willing to go through an appropriate trial.

And not until a while after we start combat training which is, to be clear, still years away. The kids are three years old.

Now that Stigmar knows how to work clay, we should bring him over to the cold clay when we're not in AP hell and ask him his thoughts on what we can actually do with it.

Doesn't actually save an action. Getting the sword is free, action-wise, as long as we're gonna reforge Ashen Kiss anyway (and, IMO, we are).

We're definitely going to reforge Ashen Kiss, it would just be awkward to make a paired sword which we then end up not using. We also might want the action slot for adding Crowfeeder's runes to the ice sword or other general fiddling around with it, if we decide to use it.

To be clear, I'm not saying don't ever do a crafting action with Ashen Kiss and whichever sword we end up going for, let's just hold off for a turn or two until we've poked about with the ice sword and we're sure what we're doing. We've got plenty of other projects.

I'm very doubtful we want to use the possessed Ice Sword. In fact, given that it's from a defeated opponent, it's arguable we shouldn't even try due to negative Hamingja effects (studying it is fine, but using it might be a problem). That said, putting off crafting a sword for ourselves for a turn or two is probably reasonable, I'm just very dubious we'd ever actually do this.

In other news, IF confirmed on Discord that asking Asva for help with the clothing situation was reasonable, so I replaced crafting those ourselves with asking her to do so and doing some trick and knowledge swapping with her as well as catching up. She's a better seamstress than Halla anyway.

Looting cool stuff from defeated foes is like, half of every martial culture ever including the Norse. Stealing is one thing, but we took this fair and square in a duel, totally different. It's ours now.

And yeah, maybe the spirit is a real tool, or maybe we can bribe it with liquorice root. Until we poke around we're not going to know, and we're planning to poke around anyway, so.

Great Agder Sewing Bee is go!

It's been mentioned previously that the Norse have a thing with believing that any weapon that has failed its owner is bad luck, and that goes double for armor, and that the spirit of the object would not like the new owner and would betray them. They'd still loot them, but they melted them down before trying to use them.

In real life, this may have had something to do with their metallurgy being pretty advanced for the era, and thus other people's weapons being crappy, but IF has indicated it's objectively true in-universe. There are potentially ways around it, but it's dicey on something like this.

Like I said, I'm down for looking into it, I'm just noting why I'm skeptical.

Yeah, this action is a lot more fun and interactive. I'm very pleased with being able to make the change. Many thanks to TheCount for the suggestion of asking Asva to make the clothes instead.

--[X] Putting the following runes on the Helm "May my wearer's eyes track prey like a predator." - Hopefully granting us an extra Target-Tracking Eyes bonus
Helm 'pon head, hard head-guard.
Gift your gaze through twin gates. [1]
With eagle's eyes, easy hunting prey.
Sharp seeing sight staring down foes.

[1] Twin gates here refers to the eyeslits that helmets have.

I've probably violated the rules for Ljóðaháttr at some point on this, because the examples not very clear on what makes one.

It's mail-necked and intended to be very protective, so probably something like this:

Possibly with fuller face coverage.

EDIT: Found a better picture.

Cool, that is a good Helm.

Maybe, if we can, during the next turns we should learn some new Crafting Skill, we need to learn Spear for Vagn, but we also still need to learn Axe and Ranged. Maybe there are other Crafting Skills we could need?

We're actually learning Vehicles to make Vagn a GIANT WHEEL rather than Spear. We're also working on Axe. After we complete those we'll do Ranged and Spear and have the full weapon selection of Weaponcraft Tricks. At least for the ones commonly available among the Norse.

After that we maybe pick up Traps under Wildcraft, but we're pretty much done with Skill Tricks other than that, at least in the near future.

I like this plan.

I am wondering, Halla smithing skill should become more known soon in the Valley if more people start going araound with stuff made by her. Maybe some warriors will start coming to commission weapons or armor made by Halla.

The reputation will likely increase once our people are wearing serious stuff from us, yeah. Commissions are a maybe...we're definitely still overshadowed by Sten in terms of smithing.

I don't remember seeing much stuff built by Sten, maybe we should take some time to talk with him abaout smithing and crafting, we could compare our works and he could give us pointers. Maybe we will finally convince him to talk abaout Finland and what he knows abaout Steel (not necessarly teaching us how to make it).

IF has noted that Sten takes occasional commissions, and Sten has been giving us non-stop pointers for years now (he gives us +1 success per turn on several different crafting options, in terms of training). But yes, we're gonna try and get him (and Minna) to talk about Finland...I have that pegged for next turn at the moment, actually.

certainly, but I am not sure if there is anyone else in the Valley who does? and Sten doesn't seem to take a lot of commissions, so there is probably a lot of space in the market.

perhaps we can suggest shared work on some project with Sten? I think we are on the level this might be possible. perhaps some gift to Drifa?

Oh no, not that helmet!

Alright, so, the problem with that helmet is the eye-loop-things. On the actual Oseburg helmet, they're quiet small comparatively. On this one they're so fuckin' big that an errant face-stab will get redirected into the eye. This is a problem that the oseburg helmet also has, if I remember correctly, but it's even worse on this one.

I could also be talking out my ass here, 'cause this is from memory, but yeah.

0~0~0

So.

My medicine ran out again. Well, that's not entirely true as I still have a day left, but I need to save that for Monday so I can call in and hopefully get a refill. As a result, I'll have to give you an extended voting period over the weekend.

ALSO, you've solved the alarm charm rune phrase. Breaking the clay gives off an alarm.
