I think we should only decide on a plan once we've recruited more people and scouted. That seems like an entirely viable option.

Okay, but we're being asked to give our general plan of attack now. It's not a suicide pact; we can definitely modify it as we gain further information. Presumably this is because it means planning out the updates is a lot easier if IF has a general idea of what our plan looks like.

If you think we straight up should not do this now then fair enough, but you probably need to take that up with IF. Everyone just ignoring the main vote is a bit strange!

Anyway, since we're being asked for our general plan here, here's mine:

[X] Plan the Element of Surprise
-[X] We will scout the castle using our flygia before finalising our plan, to gather more information, particularly ways to lure the knights outside the castle. But provisionally, our idea is:
-[X] Up the River, you'll sail up the river straight to the castle's walls
-[X] ...After having deposited a strike team, who will climb up the cliff using the distraction of our frontal attack, assaulting their way through the castle, eliminating any surprised combatants they find, and then attacking the garrison on the walls from behind as they're engaged with us.
-[X] This will deal a fatal blow to the defender's morale, and may even lead defenders fighting outside the walls (cough cough, Knights) to assume the castle has fallen.

[X] (Optional) You're not sure that you can handle this with the men you have, perhaps you should see if there are any men of the Danelaw in the area?

This does not lock us into anything, but I think that this leverages having Heima on the mission, and is exactly how successful daring assaults of coastal forts work in Patrick O'Brien novels, so hopefully it'll work here!

Can we ask Solrun for help here? Maybe ask her to scry on the Priest?
I'd rather not risk poking the support based cultivator that the Kings Intel said might stay out of it.

Blackhand said in an earlier comment that if the Priest in our raid had buffed the men at arms instead of trying to 1v1 a warrior with a support build we likely would have lost.

If that priest starts buffing 25 Thanes, I think we just straight lose.

Should probably make it clear to Heima and the strike force that the point is pincering the enemy force, not just killing everyone involved, as we've got good reason to believe the Priest won't get involved as long as we don't provoke him by attacking noncombattants or bothering him in particular.

Aside from that, it seems workable?

[X] Plan the Element of Surprise

Okay, in terms of things, I think unless we get really high end backup we need Heima Smiles on the 8th Decade Knight. Badly need him. If we're making plans right now I'd go with this.

EDIT: With changes, I can now just vote for the plan:

We can add Heima Smiles to the strike team if we wind up with other people who we can put into play against the 8th Decade, but force allocations before knowing our forces are premature.

Yeah, I'll edit things to make that clearer, especially given it's Heima leading it, some clear direction there is probably important.

In the interests of compromise, and given there's some strong feelings we might need Heima for the 8th Decade Knight, which might be right, I'd be willing to change my plan over to this, and not specify where Heima will be going for now.

Sound alright?

I mean, the other side of that is that getting intel might prevent us from getting the Priest involved, ya know?

So we fight the Thanes and keep the Knights busy while the strike team kills the Noble (who will probably stay safe inside the castle walls)?

I mean, if we kill most of his allies then he will probably surrender to save himself. Or flee.

Sure. The trick is surviving that long. I'm hopeful we can recruit people who can help with that (in particular Stigulf Snowbeard, Stigmar and Stigr's older brother is in the Danelaw and a serious badass...we likely try him first if possible).

I wonder if we can recruit any of the Thanes like we recruited Tryggr and Trausti. Having a Thane in our household would be cool.

I'm dubious. It's not quite impossible, but I'd say it's unlikely. We're more likely to recruit new household members within the crew...I'm kinda hoping we get Vagn and maybe a couple of other people, though we'll see how social actions go.

I doubt we will be able to pick up Vagn, since he's just about our level in combat. I think its way more likiely that we snag a few of the younger guys that are here for Orthstirr.
