Anyway, that aside, how long would it take to gather enough wood for the house if we're using a container of magically super hot oil instead of firewood?
Just say you're doing that.Sweet. What are the logistics of that? Like, do we need to assign Work dice or Research dice, or can we just say we're using the Hearthroot Oil of heating or what? How long would getting the wood take at that rate?
Just say you're doing that.
You go through about 6 cords of firewood in a year, so 6 of these bad boys. As most of that is gathered in the summer months, I'll say that it'll be one turn spent collecting as you've already gathered most of it.
I'll just say that, for you as a Norsewoman, it is flavor. For Minna and Sten it would probably have some benefits. I don't really know what those would be, so I'll let the Finns in thread—if there are any, though I suspect there are—make suggestions ;POn a similar logistical note, how would we build a sauna, mechanically? What would that look like in terms of costs and benefits, if anything? It just being a flavor thing is also fine, but I do think we want to build one for thematic reasons, so knowing how that works is relevant.

You can just spend some of your surplus work dice on it and it'll be fine.
So, before I can write, I do need to know if you folks are only going to be shopping for bling or if you also wanted to do the horse thing
Oh sweet! No more firewood packing! I am very happy for Halla's family. i hate that chore with a passion.Just say you're doing that.

Ngl, this hurts a bit after the cold bath idea was refused so vehemently....On a similar logistical note, how would we build a sauna, mechanically? The cold bath idea was for an action that we took. I'd assume that Halla and company actually do take cold baths pretty regularly but spending an action on them is a much bigger investment. Likewise, if the sauna provided no benefit and cost an action, I'd be a lot less in. A few Work Dice are much more affordable.
I mean if it takes a few Work Dice to make a sauna, presumably it would take a few Work Dice to do an attached cold bath.
Which would be nice actually, kind of like a Roman baths style dealie?
Then we just need to bribe a gnome or something to hit us with tree branches and give us a massage.
The Dwarf trade isn't something we should consider a panacea, apparently it's dangerous to do it too much. Right now, we're on the level where it's basically considered a neato perk for one of the specific households to use as horse trading, but if we trade too much, that's risky because others might want to get in on it.
This, build a stockpile and get the occasional goody (or sell some of the stockpile to Sten for a fair price, if the stockpile ever got bigger than we are going to need in the foreseeable future). We can do some now (as IF said that would be okay), but should not make it a habit. The Dwarf trade isn't something we should consider a panacea, apparently it's dangerous to do it too much. the sauna was where a finns life both started and ended. this could have some bonuses for any new children minna and sten have
Article: The sauna in Finland is an old phenomenon and its roots are difficult to trace, but its earliest versions are believed to be from 7000 BC.[citation needed] Bath houses were recorded in Europe during the same time period, but Finnish bathing habits were poorly documented for most of history.
During the Reformation in Scandinavia the popularity of saunas expanded to other countries because the European bath houses were being destroyed.
One reason the sauna culture has always flourished in Finland has been because of the versatility of the sauna. When people were moving, the first thing they did was to build a sauna. Finns have used the sauna to live in, eat, address matters of hygiene, and, most importantly, give birth in an almost sterile environment. Unlike many other, more densely populated places in Europe, the availability of wood needed to build and warm the sauna has never been an issue. Another reason for its popularity is that in such a cold climate, the sauna allows people warmth for at least a short period of time. However, it is just as popular in the summer as in the winter.
Sten not getting to that in the time he lived here sounds ... odd.
Yeah, that was the idea, because creating a memory that has deep impressions is the way....Oh, I'm down for building a cold bath, but that was not the previously mentioned suggestion, or at least not my understanding of it at the time. That was for spending an action taking a cold bath as a social action, which got shot down at the time due to other actions taking priority.
he was too shy to ask steinarr for permission to build it on his land /j
Sure. Just want to point out that it would be weird for Sten and Minna to not already have the bonuses.Maybe they have, but we don't actually live with them (they live with Steinarr), just pretty much next door. We could still build one.
So, you all remember how I said that it was just a fact of life for famine to happen?

.... Man, this is gonna be so aquard when people come for us for food and they see the fields are just as bad if not worse off than theirs....
... Wait... STEINAR CAN MAKE A KILLING SELLING FOOD!!!
Let's see, at a rate of 3 Odr per unit of food... Halla alone can produce 7 Food per turn.
Though it makes sorting out the Underhouse more important, if that increases our Odr intake.
Was that food we got from our soul for the 3 odr a one time thing, or did the plants we grew remain and will presumably be able to give food again? So, you all remember how I said that it was just a fact of life for famine to happen?
True, i suppose... still, its a good time to be a good farmer, no matter how you look at it.Steinarr will probably just give it away to those in need. He's a nice guy like that.
one time. nothing of use grows in there without odr. 1 cost to make them sprout, 1 to make them grow and a third to make them be harvest able... and, as far as i know, Rye and other grains need to be replanted every year....Was that food we got from our soul for the 3 odr a one time thing, or did the plants we grew remain and will presumably be able to give food again?
Nothing grows on its own here, not if it's worth anything. The flow of odr sustains it, but does nothing more.
Slowly, you add the first drop to the soil. Not even a moment after you do that do changes occur. Green shoots burst through the dirt, digging towards the every lit sky as they grow and grow and grow.
A second mote of odr takes this growth to new heights. The shoots spring up higher and higher, reaching an adolescent stage in mere moments.
A third drop of odr finishes the job and leaves you with a plot of rye ready for harvest. There's enough rye here to feed a grown man for a couple months!
