Xianxia cultivators of the bog standard variety are pretty much the fae.

They swoop down and steal children, cause plagues/droughts if angered, and forge living people into pills/use as non-renewable qi batteries.

That'd require knowledge of making large sheets of even glass without defect or breaking them.

Specifically the clear kind which is really expensive back in the day as a symbol of wealth.

In the real world it was made in the 15th century too so in xianxia world it'd be 5000 years before we get actual knowlrdge of it with characters in universe unless we get super lucky with gacha like the pencil.

say, like plate armor?
and... yeah, Norse can pick up new things frighteningly quick....
Hm....
Hey, IF, what would Glass making fall under, skill wise?

Speaking of which, on a longer-term basis, what do we want Halla to be known for in the Valley?

There's the Seidr she's learning, she could make 'being a Seeress' the core part of her identity. (This comes with all the expectation of a Seeress, although she'd be like the only Seeress in the Hading since Solrun is kinda old.)
There's her murdery-ness, she could make 'Warrior' the core part of her identity. (There's a distinction to be had with 'happens to be a warrior', which is all Norsemen, and 'dedicated warrior', which Halla presently isn't IMO.)
There's her talent at smithing, she could make 'Craftperson' the core part of her identity. (Halla crafts stuff, but she's not a dedicated craftswoman.)

Why pick only one? Halla is an excellent warrior, skilled scout, good medic, brilliant tactician (at least by the standards of non-berserks), budding seeress, excellent smith, competent diplomat, decent poet, and competent housewife/farmwife. She's also well known for being a righteous and honorable person. 'Pretty good at just about everything' is absolutely a reputation she can have.

I wonder if Sagaseeker now counts as one of Halla's 9 allotted children

He shouldn't because he's not a child of the marriage, which is what she gets 9 children from. Technically, if she got divorced or something she'd get a new roll for the new marriage.

Check. That's good for having hot oil...less good for quenching in and of itself. But having hot oil is very useful.

wait.... WE CAN HEAT THE HOUSE WITH THIS!!!!
oh gods, just imagine that... pour some into small metal canisters and it will heat you through the winter!!!

I'm not sure we need this given all the other ways we have to heat things...on the other hand, it would save on firewood.

Wait. The issue with building our house in our soulscape is that people will wonder where all the wood is going. We can't keep that a secret from our family but if we do this for heat, could we just quietly reallocate a lot of the wood we'd otherwise be using for firewood and thus forestall questions from anyone outside the family? @Imperial Fister would that work?

Do the Norse have any concept of the idea of a 'Tree Farm'? Or Orchards?

We could go on wood cutting expeditions into the Hading Forest with ig Abjorn. He's not going to spread rumors, even if he has many questions.

Orchards for like, fruit, they definitely had, if likely not super large ones (there are references to cultivated trees for that purpose in Norse mythology)...tree farms for wood I'm less clear on and more doubtful.

That is an option, yeah. I dunno if it'd be an action or something, though. If we can do it without spending actions, that'd be good.

Jumpstart the sauna culture and get the street cred from such.

Saunas have been around for a long time while also being integral to icy biomed cultures but crafting a communal one that can keep its temperature while also adorned with Bling would probably be a potent source of Orthrinsthir simply for allowing people to survive through the winter a lot easier.

And you can hide wood behind the scenes for the soulscape while using the temperature control trick to save time and money for the kayfabe.

It'd also allow Abjorn to gain Orth because he knows how to make large structures and we can collab with him there.

We teach a Farmhand day in the Sun and let them be the Sun of our Greenhouse! (just memeing, though using our huge cellar from the troll-men attack would be an interesting project (but probably wouldn't get nearly the votes needed))

We could try to build a better forge!
Retains even more of its heat.
Speaking of, one day I'd like to try and see how deep Halla can dig. Would a magma forge be possible?

Btw, when do Kids get their first real weapon?
Would people be ok with investing a few Actions into a sort of mini-arc to smith a T8/9 weapon with Drifa when the time comes?
If we can do it without spending actions, that'd be good.
We could try Odr watering soulspace trees before.
That may get us a slowly regrowing supply of special Wood (if the tree doesn't have a stronger cultural connection to a different use). (Assuming somewhat slow unless we splurge on Odr to have many trees growing wood in paralel)

Definitely not for a few years. Maybe a bit after they start getting trained at, like 6 years old. I'm thinking 8-ish, maybe?

As for Drifa, I'm fine with giving her a Very Nice Weapon (T8, no Realizing, I don't think)...but I'm not sure we need an arc., and honestly, for Drifa we probably don't need to give her a weapon either. Like, Sten will handle that I'm pretty sure.

I'd rather draw attention or burn an action than burn Odr on it.

The Sauna idea is a great one. We could rope Sten in to build it, because everyone knows Saunas are Finnish Magic.

Speaking of which, when we buy the Bling for Abjorn's Armor, we need to get like 12 successes worth of Bling (if that's a thing) if we want a 50-50 on Realizing his Armor. So preferably more.

We don't need quite that much for a 50/50 shot I don't think, but we want all we can get, yeah. The exact rules on that got clarified while I was asleep and I never got the chance to adjust Odr expenditure on the armor in response.

So, @Imperial Fister how exactly does blinging out armor (or whatever) to get it Realized work? I have several questions:

1. Can we, in fact, add successes by using particularly appropriate bling? If so, does the bear pelt count and for how much?
2. Would extra money spent give extra successes?
3. Is it 36 successes needed or 41 on the Decorate and Runework rolls? I know it'd normally be 41 but wouldn't Born With A Hammer In Hand apply?
4. Could excess successes on the item crafting roll add to the Decorate roll? The Runecraft roll should be separate (since the item being better doesn't directly help there), but making a truly extra perfect item making it also look prettier seems reasonable?

Like
1 action to go hunting with her to get fitting boneash.
1 action to workshop rune inscriptions with her.
1 action to make the weapon.
We can leave that to Sten, but would probably be sweet to do it anyway.

Not a lot of Odr, of course.
Like 3 on one tree to see what happens. (really want to try that with ash and elm for their mythological role, either way)

'If you want a fire hugareida, you chase after fire. If you want an ice hugareida, you chase after ice.'
so, i just remembered this....
And there was that idea of mine to go take cold baths....
And, if we are working with the cold mud/clay, we will be close to a big source of cold, what with it becoming colder the more of it is there..... and we do not know how deep the mud/clay pit is.

Hm.... Any idea how to get an earth or plant hugreida?
And, aside from Lightning, what other ones would we want?

That is very clever of you. It would work, yes
"Hey, Blackhand, you mentioned Lighten-Load as being a godsend.... but most armors aren't that heavy. Are there heavier armors for Norseman than mail? Like the knights' plate armor? Or what strenuous activities would make that trick a godsend?"
'Sometimes, swimming in armor can be trouble. While it isn't especially difficult, it can be the edge that's needed to hand your enemy the fight.'

You don't really add successes. Things like the bear pelt reduces the cost to actually bling out the armor
2. Would extra money spent give extra successes?
No

You don't really have excess successes when doing crafting things, as it adds to the now-Realized thing's stats

By the way, when Sagaseeker stoked his aspects, was it while we were talking to him in the outside world our in Sagaseeker? Imagining an atgeir with a tail and fur is just weird to my senses.

It's more like a magical, catlike shell vaguely surrounding the atgeir. With every Aspect stoked, the cat's form further solidifies (though never impedes function)

Are you folks looking for anything else besides bling or are you planning on doing the horse stuff some other time?

I mean, more interesting things to add to our Soulscape is never a bad thing. So acquiring curious seeds or herbs or whatnot is always a good idea.

Anyway, that aside, how long would it take to gather enough wood for the house if we're using a container of magically super hot oil instead of firewood?

Sweet. What are the logistics of that? Like, do we need to assign Work dice or Research dice, or can we just say we're using the Hearthroot Oil of heating or what? How long would getting the wood take at that rate?

You don't really have excess successes when doing crafting things, as it adds to the now-Realized thing's stats

Interesting. Well, in that case I guess we need to burn a bunch of Reward Dice if we actually want to Realize Abjorn's armor. Right now we have something south of a 20% chance of Realizing the armor, but a few Reward Dice can boost that significantly.

I'll definitely chip in if other people will.

Nice one!

Hmmm... Having a permanent heat source which can sit inside a metal container also feels like it would open up a lot of options that would be much more difficult if we were using wood for heating.

We could build a sauna!

Minna is Finnish, she'd love that!

If Sagaseeker has Aspects and is basically a person now, does this mean it can have a Flygia?

That would be pretty cool because Sagaseeker could then use its Flygia to carry itself around, making it functionally independent.
