Interlude - The Resurgent
Contrary to what the Mandalorians would later say, there was nothing particularly special about the day that Thrawn visited Jango's "home" on the Outland Transit Station. That being said, it was clear to everyone who saw the Chiss that day that he was a man on a mission as he quickly moved through the station, the crowds around him parting as he moved as though fearful of interrupting him.

In spite of all of this, no one heard what the man ever said to Jango Fett that day as he spoke with him in private. The Mandalorians would later say that Thrawn channeled the wills of the past Mandalores when he spoke with Jango. Those who knew Thrawn well would later say that he used the history and culture of the Mandalorians in his argument, demonstrating the need for a new leader in this age.

But the fact of the matter is that no one else was in the room where it happened. And neither man ever spoke about what was said in it.

What was clear is that shortly afterwards, Jango left Outland Station and set the Slave I on a course to Mandalore at the fastest possible speeds, arriving within a matter of days. Not even bothering with hiding his presence, he landed at Sundari's central spaceport to the shock of everyone who saw him land. Ignoring anyone who tried to stop him, he made his way over to the headquarters of the newly formed Guardians, entering the building as though it was his right from the beginning. When someone asked why he was there he ordered the man to gather everyone at once, and he obeyed without question.

A few moments later Jango stood in the middle of the Guardians' training center, surrounded by the warriors of the new generation. When someone had the courage to ask why he was there, he had only one thing to say:

"Because it is my right to be here as Mand'alor."

The room went silent, the gravity of the declaration pressing down on everyone present before a challenger stood up, asking what right Jango had to the title. He simply told the challenger that he would be willing to prove it if anyone was brave enough.

And to their credit a few were; challenging him one at a time, then in groups as Jango proved his words true, easily defeating anyone and everyone who challenged him.

And then, after all the fighting, one last warrior stepped forward and knelt before Jango, uttering one single word.

"Mand'alor."

There was a brief moment of silence, then another voice joined him, then more and more until they were chanting a single word, loud enough that it shook the walls. A chant that would shake the galaxy itself.

"MAND'ALOR! MAND'ALOR! MAND'ALOR!"

Unbeknownst to the crowd hailing the return of a Mand'alor, a man stood behind the doorway leading to the room, feeling the walls shake from the chanting.

Thrawn smiled to himself. And then he quietly walked away, knowing that his part had been played to its conclusion.

--------

Meanwhile in the capital building of Sundari, Satine and Obi-Wan Kenobi were sitting together, blissfully unaware of the galaxy-changing event that was happening just a short distance away. The silence between them was deafening, the two of them trying to figure out what to say. It was truly the textbook definition of "awkward silence."

Eventually Satine decided to break the silence. "So how was your flight here?" she asked, fishing for one of the most neutral questions she could think of.

"It was quite pleasant, actually," Obi-Wan quickly responded, eager to break the silence himself. "I must admit that the embassy ship was much more comfortable than other transports I've been on."

Satine's face started to light up as the conversation started to gain momentum. "Yes, well, I wanted to spare no expense-"

All of a sudden the door to their room suddenly slammed open despite the fact that Satine had made sure to lock it.

"Hellllllllooooooooo~"

The two occupants stared at Ciaran, standing in the doorframe with a horrifying "I'm about to make your life miserable" smile on her face.

"H-How did you get in here!?" Satine shouted. "I made sure to tell the guards that you were never allowed in here!"

"I have my ways."

"How did you even open the door to begin with?" Obi-Wan managed to get out, equally as confused as Satine.

"I have my ways. Oh, and sorry for interrupting your date, normally I'd be really happy that you two are enjoying some alone time together-"

Both Obi-Wan and Satine's faces started to go red.

"Buuut there's kind of a thing I think you to need to know about sooner rather than later," she said as she held up a comm unit, broadcasting the sounds of the warriors chanting. "I want it on record that this was not my fault for once. Honest."

Obi-Wan felt the pit of his stomach drop as he began to digest the implications of what he was hearing, while Satine was making a series of choking noises, incapable of articulating herself.

"So the both of you maaaay want to get over there as soon as possible. Bye now~"

Suddenly, Ciaran dashed away as Satine began to chase after her like a feral beast. Looking around in the hallway to see that she had vanished, Satine turned back to Obi-Wan. "The Guardian's headquarters. Now." Obi-Wan nodded, a grim look on his face as he quickly followed Satine.

-------

As Satine entered the building there was no one to greet her, meaning that she could storm through the building with Obi-Wan hot on her heels. As she burst into the room where everyone was gathered, the warriors went silent as Satine slowly walked towards Jango.

"I don't know what made you decide to come here, but I want to make something very clear," Satine said, her voice echoing through the room as she walked towards Jango, stopping when she was within close distance of him. "So long as I live, I will never let you drag Mandalore into more pointless wars." Obi-Wan said nothing, but made sure that his lightsaber was conspicuously visible to the crowd as Satine spoke.

The tension in the room was palpable before Jango replied. "Then let me make something clear. These young boys and girls have told me that they want nothing more than to be able to protect Mandalore and their own." He pointedly looked at Obi-Wan, then back at Satine. "If you have a problem with that, then you have a problem with me."

"And what guarantee do we have that you won't start another crusade?" Obi-Wan asked as Jango regarded him with curiosity. "It is no secret that Mandalorian warriors and Jedi have had numerous conflicts over the ages, and the Order can't ignore what is happening here."

"...I'll make myself clearer still then," said Jango, turning to face Satine again. "From what I've seen these Mandos are a lot like you, except they want to be able to fight for Mandalore should it need them. They want to honorably serve Mandalore and its people first, isn't that right?" said Jango, turning to search the audience.

"Of course!"
"Yeah!"
"We're Guardians, aren't we?"

Various shouts of affirmation came from the audience as Jango turned back to Satine, who was beginning to slightly relax. "They don't want a war, and both you and I have seen for ourselves what happens when Mandos try to force their beliefs on other Mandos."

Satine nodded grimly. "While that is true, what are you going to do then? You may say that you cannot change their beliefs, but look around."

"Teach them. They're passionate, but I've sparred with enough of them just now to know that they have a lot to learn."

Satine folded her arms. "...While that does sound reasonable, you must understand that I will need to see proof."

Jango nodded but said nothing.

"As such, I hope you will understand when I say that I will require the Guardians to be placed under greater scrutiny until such a time that your words can be proven true. Is that acceptable?"

There was a small amount of grumbling from the audience, but no real objections arose, and for his part Jango simply nodded. "I understand."

"Very well," Satine said, glancing around before turning back to Jango. "We will have a more in-depth talk later." With that, she turned and left, though Obi-Wan stayed behind.

"I meant what I said before. While I do believe that everyone here meant what they said, the Jedi Council simply can't ignore this," Obi-Wan said.

The room went silent again before Jango replied. "...Then tell them what I told her."

"We both know that will likely not be enough."

"In that case tell them this; we don't want to interfere and we don't want another war." Jango moved close enough to Obi-Wan that the rest of the people there couldn't overhear them. "But if they start one themselves, we will be ready."

Obi-Wan didn't flinch. "I will do what I can to ensure that never happens," he calmly replied, causing Jango to tilt his head in confusion before Obi-Wan offered his hand. Jango grasped it, shook once, and then Obi-Wan left the room as the audience began to mutter to themselves, though there was clear a sense of hopefulness among them.

-------

As Jango finally found some time to himself, he sent a message to Thrawn. The Chiss quickly arrived, his lips ever so slightly curled upwards. "Quite impressive work today, Master Fett."

Jango let out a neutral "hmph" before speaking to Thrawn. "You could join them you know. If they knew they would call you Mandalorian in a heartbeat."

"Flattered as I am, I must decline. My work will be taking me elsewhere and I am content to merely be a witness to the history of the Mandalorians from this point onward. Though about my offer..."

"Can't. Too many eyes are going to be on me for a while."

"And after that?"

"...We'll see."

"I suppose that is all I can ask for then," said Thrawn as he turned to leave. "If nothing else, it has truly been a pleasure, Mand'alor."

Results: Jango Fett returns and is declared Mand'alor the Resurgent. A lot of publicity both for good and ill comes from his very public return to Mandalore. Guardians placed under temporarily increased scrutiny until Jango's trustworthiness is verified. Obi-Wan will attempt to ease tensions resulting from Jango's return. Potential for Jango recruitment in the future. Thrawn gains Honorary Mandalorian trait.

AN: And done! Normally this would have come last, but my muse was insistent that this come first and wouldn't let me think of anything else until I did.

First off, credit to Echo101 for inspiring/partly writing the Ciaran Interrupt scene, which fit in here so very well.

After that, I really enjoyed making the first part have this sense of mythical proportions given how popular and public Jango's return is. Speaking of which, as exciting as the return is there's definitely going to be some very intense reactions to a Mandalore becoming prominent again, so have fun with that when the next turn comes around.

Also I thought I needed to clarify what the Guardians were like given how prominent they were here; much like any group that rebels against popular opinion they're made up of a lot of younger New Mandalorians. They still believe in the the ideals of peace that most New Mandalorians ascribe to, but they are passionate enough that they want to be able to protect that peace should the need arise and are more willing to fight for it. Hopefully I can do more with them in the future!

Finally, while I do think that after everything Thrawn did and the giant crit he scored should normally get you Fett, I can't exactly justify Satine letting him do what he pleases...at least for a bit. He'll be around from now on though for obvious reasons.

I wonder how long it'll take the Mandalorians that still believed and supported the "Old Ways" to turn up under Jango's banner.

Also wonder if the Cuy'Val Dar will gather under Jango's banner...

I may imagine Satine 'summoning' for periodic reviews where she interogates his every action and word. Her paranoia must be through the roof.

*Maniacal Laughter*

Palpatine must be cursing up a storm right about now.

Not particularly. This does little to alter his plans at the moment. It has potential to cause some trouble down the line if he lets us run wild, so he will definitely notice this. But we're nowhere near "cursing up a storm" levels.

Yet.

Now all we need is are to recreate Basilisk war droids for the Guardians and then it'll be a real party.

Also I feel that there needs to be a post detailing the reactions of everyone to the news.

@Dr. Snark, awww no awesome conversation between Thrawn and Jango about why he should go back?

I thought about it and I realized that there was absolutely no way I could ever do that scene justice on my own. And honestly I love the sense of ambiguity resulting from that, adding to the mythic-ness of Jango's return.

Ha! That interrupt was better than I'd hoped! Of course this tosses more wariness onto Ciran's rep for those 'in the know', since now the Jedi 'know' that Ciaran had a hand in Mandalore's return.

Hm, what else do they 'know'? She's accused of being a criminal mastermind by one of their own, effectively controls the CNS, was a known and longtime associate of Count Dooku's before the war noted to have spent periods of time together and was present at the CIS' foundation.

Depending on what Anakin did or did not say she also posses apparently in depth knowledge of at least one previously unknown Sith Lord.

Alongside being fantastically wealthy and highly respected as both a business woman and benevolent philanthropist personally responsible for the economic recovery of entire worlds.

As an organization the Jedi are probably very suspicious.

I have to say, if there's anything I particularly love about this quest, it's what a prominent and impactful character thrawn is. He was criminally underused in canon, and you don't even see him in fan works that often. Which is a shame since he's basically alien Sun Tzu

Oooh yeah er...slightly retconed Ciaran's interrupt so that she's not as suspicious. I mean, she's still suspicious, but not as obvious.

Bitch, I've told you that he's alien Zhuge Liang-not only is he a tactical genius, but he's a better leader than most politicians in the Star Wars galaxy.

LIES AND SLANDER! I LOVE the Zann Consortium and the quote 'I've always wanted to own a Senator.' is the REASON THIS QUEST EXISTS!
Zann managed to build up the Consortium after getting out of prison, with lots of money involved, to the point that he was able to challenge both Rebels and Empire and temporarily steal the Eclipse.

Ciaran seems to be an earlier and more light-sided version of that.

But she used the power of the force to break down a door? That means our secret is out now right?

I think I already mentioned it, but I'm a shameless Mando'ade fanboy. As such, this interlude makes me really, really happy. I can't wait to see what comes of it. Also, canonically Jango's armor was actually made of durasteel rather than beskar because it was hard to get. Can we make him a new set more fitting for his position as Mand'alor?

Beside the update I must say I love the attitude part of the front page.
Obi-Wan: Considers you a suspicious but helpful ally, wishes you would stop teasing him over his love life.
Yeah, never gonna happen Obi. Ciaran is having way to much fun with this.

Satine: Dislikes you, but is willing to cooperate with you. For now. Is not happy about the added work of dealing with Jango claming the title of Mandalore.
Dont worry Satine I am sure it will ge... no it will never get better Ciaran will work you to the bones. But hey it will probably end up better then your canon fate.:D

Jango (Mandalore the Resurgent): Neutral to you. Odd relationship with Thrawn.
Probably good that it is Thrawn that ended up being friends(?) with Jango. Ciaran's personality would probably clash with Jango's to much.

Bail: Grateful to you for preventing the attack on him, confused by Padme's descriptions of you
... Oh god I want to see that conversation. I cant even begin to imagine the hilarity of Padme trying to explain Ciaran.

Aren't you all glad that I wrote those two omakes? I am, even if someone else would have pulled him in anyway.

EDIT: Narcissism ahoy!
