Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

The Good, The Other Good, The Bad, and The Nice: Turn 5 Results (September-October 1970)
-[X]No: You aren't ready for production just yet.
-[X]Prepare for the Fury (Role Change): You want to see if Bruce is willing to give you a larger role, or failing that, just something badass to do? DC: 45 Reward: you get a larger role, and maybe something more. Roll: 69(nice)

You had looked at the offer from Bruce and his contact, which would allow you to be part of the film.

Or rather, the three options that were possible. All of them are more intimidating and broken than the others.

The First option was a simple one. Serve as a henchman to the big bad, a rather competent one where you would serve as a saboteur, a kidnapped victim that is not who he seems, striking bruce in the back while he was trying to help him, stabbing him in the shoulder, wounding him, then entering a prolonged but very rewarding fight scene.

You had, however, one problem with it.

You were half-naked, with only a loincloth to protect your modesty. That normally wouldn't be a problem.

But you were underage. That might raise some questions. This was the director's choice.

It would not require much in the way of acting skills, but put your physical abilities to the test.

Option two, which was Bruce's choice, was an interesting one. He had decided to play with the expectations of the audience, and make you seem like the central character, pulling the rug out of the sails. You would star in a short, five/seven-minute short film, in the beginning, the opening to be precise, as the Interpol agent that was in charge of investigating the Drug trade in Thailand. It would follow you entering the factory, confronting the men, and getting into a fight. and you would lose.

After a helluva fight.

It would allow you to be a good actor, and show off your skills, even if you lose.

Option Three was something that came to you in a dream. It was a slight combination of the two options. But it had a very big difference. Bruce would rescue you and have to fight you, not to kill you, but to break the brainwashing, trying to keep Bruce from killing you and to maintain tension within the story.

You actually like the idea. And had even written the part of the script that was for the idea.

But Bruce felt that having you try to force yourself more into the story might make people think you were trying to hard. But he did see the merit in the idea. There was also a very big possibility that the action-heavy fights, both of them might hurt you.

What Option do you take:

[]Option A: Director's choice, Easy on choreography with almost no acting. (The DC for the Choreography is high, but acting is set to 0)

[]Option B: Bruce's Choice, (The DC is Average on Acting talent for it to not be cut or reshot, and the DC is High on choreography)

[]Option C (Your Choice, The DC is High on Acting talent for it to not be cut or reshot, and the DC is Very High on choreography Due to the very demanding prolonged fight for the finale)

-[X] Gophering, and other signs of stuff: You want to try and learn how work behind the camera works, and what better way than being a gopher. DC 50 (You have no idea what the hell they were doing, and you have no idea either) Roll: 58

It was not really a big thing that you had even done, as much as you had planned to do.

There was a TV show that was filming, and it needed an action director for a few simple stunts. You did not hesitate to try and help, and even managed to learn something about staging action.

Reward: +3 to Directing skill.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-[X] Practice writing: You want to write something, maybe even a script. At least to learn the craft. DC 20 (You try your hand at screenwriting, and maybe get something that is worth a damn. Please note that your script quality will have a roll malus due to never trying something like this before.) Roll: Nat 1(Yikes)

You couldn't write for shit.

That was obvious.

But when you really wanted to learn, to try and learn to write a screenplay?

It was worse than that. You burned it.

And never wanted to do it again.

Critical Failure: Screenwriting and learning to write have been removed for 1 year.

Suffer a -20 to all learning/writing rolls... For the next 2 years.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-[X] Research stuff, see if anything piques your interest: You may have graduated High School as a kid, but you never stopped trying to learn. DC 15 (Write-in: Chinese Films) Roll: 53

It wasn't much but you managed to find some dubbed Hong Kong Action films that were floating around some collector's basement. It was rather a good find, as you managed to watch the films for a few days, trying to get an understanding of Hong Kong Film Culture.

And you were going to be honest with yourself, being a spoiled film brat with access to American films and those from Britain.

They were not that good. Now that was not being fair to Hong Kong filmmakers. The audience that they were trying to show these films for was something akin to fantasy films. The Wuxia genre was what they were called. Now you knew nothing about that film genre really appealed to you.

They were simple stories, like the Western, and even the Noir films that your father loved to harp on as classics.

Then there was the process of dubbing. You really did not understand it. Why couldn't the original actor's lines be used?

And of course, there was the culture that you did not understand. Cultivation? Chi? Gravity-defying stunts without wires or help. That was what you looked to. They believed in the perfection of one's self.

But in the end, you came back with a slightly more understanding.

At least a more healthy respect for what you were doing...

And wishing to make it better.

Reward: You have watched Hong Kong Cinema, and realize that there is far more than meets the eye. However, the quality of those films, to you, leaves much to be desired.

Big Rolls, and Even Bigger Aspirations: Turn 6 (November 1970)
-------------------------------------

Bruce had called you into the room, allowing the nervous energy that you seemed to be radiating off, to be a very smooth and very quick... problem. Brandon and Shannon were both sitting by Linda, and she was trying her best to keep the two toddlers calm as you tried desperately to control yourself. "He likes it." Bruce stated.

And it was not like you had a reason to be nervous. "He likes the option you created?" You asked as you felt all the energy dissipate being replaced by a joyous energy of happiness and cheer!

"I'm going to be in the movie, and play a very integral role in setting the tone?"

Bruce for his part only allowed a small smile to appear, as the kids cheered. "You know you've become quite a name around the house." Linda stated as she handed off Brandon to you.

You allowed yourself to shake your head, not trying to give any sort of acceptance of the praise. "You are forgetting, I'm homeless, broken and this is the first real job I have had in this industry. i should not be a staple of success. Need you remember that Bruce signed me up for a karate tournament, despite only having a few months of training, as a bet, to get this role?"

Everyone laughed. "I still don't find that funny." You replied.

"it's hilarious," Bruce replied. "But It was never about winning the tournament, but really adapting to sudden change and circumstances. Like I said-"

"I know, I know, become like Water. But you are forgetting that water reacts to sudden change, or does jumping into a pool in a belly flop not hurt?" You shot back.

Bruce's smile disappeared. "See this as an opportunity to impress, not only the director but yourself. You have been given an opportunity that even I did not get with my first real role."

"And didn't you become Kato and it was awesome?" You replied.

"Flattery will not get you anywhere." He replied. "But yes."

"I've learned from dad that sometimes, being a kissass is all one needs to get ahead in life when it comes to powerful people." you replied.

"Well having dignity also will get you far in life." Bruce replied.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Outside, you and Bruce stood out, looking at the sunset. "What did you promise him, Bruce?" You asked.

Bruce raised an eyebrow. "Excuse me?"

"Bruce, be honest with me. what the hell did you offer the director to get him to accept your proposal?" You asked.

Bruce chewed on his lip for a moment before he stretched a little, moving his arm left and right before he sighed. "I waved my fee. I'm doing this for the Hong Kong minimum wage."

You frowned. "Bruce, you shouldn't have-" you asked.

"Oh no, I managed to snag a better deal for myself, I get 7% of the Gross." He stated. "I even did you a favor, and snagged you a 1% of the Gross."

Your jaw fell to the ground. "How, and why?"

"I have talked to Clint, and he seems to think that this movie will be successful, very successful, enough to where I am willing to risk such a gamble." He stated.

"Clint talked to you? No offense, I thought you two didn't see eye to eye to each other?" You asked.

"We don't. But we both agreed that, in the manner of speaking, insight was needed, even from a source that is not normal... or liked." Bruce was very adamant in his statement.

"So that's it?" You asked. "You just talked to each other because you thought he had a good idea?"

"Clint wished he managed to swing a percentage on the Gross for when he did Westerns with Leone. I think he believes that it's a good idea."

Wow.

"Though there is one thing I should tell you," Bruce stated. "Your name in the script, your name is 'Goose' Garfield. That is nonnegotiable."

And there was the other shoe. When the hell would you escape that nickname?

"WHAT!"

Reward:

Fee negotiated by Bruce, you will now earn 1% of the Gross for The Big Boss.

Due to the Success in the roll, you will receive 2 Rerolls for reshoots.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GOOOOOOOODDDD Morning, Hong Kong: Production Phase Part I (January 1971)
It was quite amazing to see the growing City of Hong Kong, but there was a feeling of unease as you looked out and saw two things that made your blood boil.

The British crown... That was evident, as you were in a territory of the British Empire, and despite your ravenous hatred of not only the Empire but of how it treated Ireland, you remained calm and tried your best to ignore that. That was in the past.

What you didn't like, was the absolute racism that you were facing right now, as the Director of the film, who was being not only ignorant to your knowledge of his own language.

Bruce was with you, and he was... not appalled at what he was hearing, but almost numb to it, as if he didn't really expect anything less.

"This white boy is what you were harping on about Bruce?" The question was aimed at the man himself and you traded a glance at him. "He's smaller than you and completely... scrawny. He has no muscle! You said you would give me a fighter, a bankable man, this is a kid?"

"This kid is a fighter, and I trained him, he's good," Bruce stated.

"Can he beat you? Can he be a threat to you right now?" The director stated.

Bruce paused and said. "No, because he would not want to be a threat to me, he is my student."

"There you have it, you told me he was decent and good, and if he does not show it, I'm going to cut his time on the script and stick to my plan," Chow replied.

Oh boy.

Chow then walked away, as you sighed. "Well, I was expecting it to be worse, to be honest." You replied.

"He's far more open than others, and the fact he wasn't openly racist to you is something you should count your blessings for. He wants to try and cater to a western audience for a release, and that's probably why he hasn't fired you."

"I thought that was your job, your Kato?" You joked.

"You think I'm a big draw in America?" He asked.

"Bruce, I've learned that if given the chance, you can be anything to anyone. And that's a promise. If you want me to be the White kid that will be in awe of your shit, I will, as I long I get on camera."

Bruce then smiled. And dammit that smile filled you with confidence. "Good, I need that, once we start filming."

-------------------------------------------------------------

You smiled as you saw Brandon blow out his candles, and you clapped. "I thought we would be celebrating his birthday on his actual birth date this year?"

Bruce shook his head. "We're going to be down in Thailand when production begins, and I don't want to miss this for the world."

"So we give him a party early?" You huffed. "Well, I can't say I don't understand."

"I know," Bruce replied. "You're probably wondering why you are here when this is a family affair?"

"do you consider me part of the family, or because you were afraid that I'd get into trouble without you watching me?"

Bruce gave his smile. "Yes."

"Have you little faith in me to keep my nose clean?" You asked.

"Yes," Bruce replied.

"Wow, so much for trust?" You snarked.

"It isn't trusting, I just don't want to deal with the hassle of having you... get into trouble."

"Ah, it almost makes you sound like you care Bruce?" You replied.

"I do." He said.

"Did you get Brandon a gift?" He asked.

"Just some comic books." You replied.

You were at a meeting with Chow and Bruce, talking about the film when men came into the building. Men with suits, and guns.

You had never taken Clint's words as gospel before, at least with his fearmongering about the Chinese Triads. You should have listened as these men were smiling with menarcheal glares, as they revealed the pistols at their sides.

"Ah, Mr. Chow. Mr. Lee, and... Who is this?" The man in charge started.

"Goose." You replied, annoyed and scared in equal measure, but you looked to Bruce, who was glaring at them with daggers and anger. His hands gripping the chair in anger.

"You why we are here?" The question was directed at Chow, who gave a small nod.

"Yes." He replied, without hesitation.

"5,000, and production will not be stalled."

You had never seen Bruce get so angry, as he looked both at Raymond and then the men. He wanted to fight them, hell he wanted to beat them to a pulp.

But Raymond spoke. "it will be paid. We just need some time."

There was a small nod from the leader. "Two weeks."

The men then left, and Bruce let Raymond have it. "Are you insane!? You are letting them intimidate you? stealing money from this production!"

"This isn't America Bruce, there are rules here, that everyone follows!" He shot back. "And they make them!"

"Gather your courage and defy them, show them that their power is useless."

"And do you want to die!? People who defy them wind up dead!"

Fear clutched your head. "And being labeled a coward is something you want to live with!"

"I would rather be alive!"

You just sat there and sighed. but you remained silent.

"We pay them, or we won't have a movie."

-----------------------------------------------

Thailand was Hot, and now you had a feeling of what a humid summer in Nam was.

The suit you wore was cheap and dirty like the Staff didn't want to spend any more money except for the bare basics on you. It was fine of course, you just needed to look just that bit better before things got done.

But you were here now, and you had to prepare.

Choose 2:

[]Work with Bruce On Choreography: You have one of the more simple fight scenes in the film, and Bruce wants to make sure you have a mastery of it. To impress the Director of course. (DC: 20/40)

[]Negotiate with the Director: Mr. Chow has only given you one chance to make it into the cut, but what If you need reshoots or you get injured. You need some assurance he won't fuck you over. or in failing that, give you another chance if you don't do well. (DC: 80)

[]Practice Lines: You need to memorize the lines, as you don't want a reputation of... well, you had heard stories about Marlon Brando not even memorizing his lines. (DC: 15)

[]Train With the Stunt Doubles: You want to learn how to get better at stunt work, and these guys are the best in the world, so to speak. (DC: 30)

[]Calm Bruce Down: Bruce may be far away, but you also want to make sure his head is in the mind of the movie. He cannot have something that happened affect his work. (DC: 10)

[]Get a Better Suit: This suit is terrible, and you need some better threads. (DC: 0)

Well... That Escalated Quickly: Production Phase Part 1 Results (January 1971)
Choreography=15+15=30

At the set, you could only move with a staggering grace that, was not fluid or brilliant, it was a fearl, some would even call stiff movement. Your attempts to warm up, get ready, and practice in the horrible suit that was given to you was, for everything that could be given...

Character. After all, you were supposed to be a green, out-of-place detective on an international narcotics investigation, alone with nothing but a badge and a gun, and as shown martial arts skills.

It showed you were out of depth, out of tactics, even, out of place. It added a layer of depth to not only your character, but to the film itself, raising the stakes that would give Bruce a far larger mountain to climb, at least metaphorically, and allow you to redeem yourself later in the film.

Bruce had liked the idea as well, and focused not on making you seem skilled, which you were, but out of place, showing the entire film that despite all the skill this agent had, he was outplayed.

After all, if he failed, how the hell could Bruce succeed? Especially with his character being a pacifist.

But the Director had almost thrown a fit, as he saw that, and wanted you to try again, with more fluidity and grace, and not as an outsider who was out of his league, who was badass but in a place he did not know.

He wanted a fighter.

And you did give him that after you told him you needed a more tailored suit to allow your arms to move.

He did not agree.

But it was still good enough for him.

Reward: An Additional +5 to Screen Presence during production. +10 to choreography roll.

-------------------------------------

Magoose: Ahh... Magoose Dice. Never leave.

-------------------------------------

You looked at the lines and almost gagged. "Who the fuck wrote these?"

Bruce slapped you. "Language." He then sighed as he sat back in the hotel room that you had been bunking in, and you had decided to remain in, despite the production crew not really liking you. "Ni Kuang was the one hired, but much of the dialogue was written by some cabal of writers that were really... well they wanted a script written on the cheap."

You frowned. "The dialogue is crap, everything I say makes me sound like a drunk lad getting out of a pub, with far to many pints. It makes me look like a fool."

Bruce nodded. "That may be, but need I remind you that the script is only a draft. Ni is still working on the final draft, a few rooms down."

"Wait, he's here?" You asked.

"Yeah, we need another draft of the script for some changes that the Director wanted," Bruce replied. "He's down here for three days, then he's back to Hong Kong."

You stood up and grabbed the script. "Bruce, can you help me?"

"With what?" He was annoyed.

"Just help me."

---------------------------------------

Ni looked at you and frowned, as he looked at some of the lien changes. "This is not acceptable."

"I know it's not acceptable, but guess what, you're writing me as a drunk Irishman. First off, I don't even drink; secondly, it won't help with selling me as someone who is a detective."

Ni frowned. "And you think I would bother? Most private detectives are drunks."

"Yes, but I'm not a private detective, I'm a detective for a government and Interpool. They have standards of not being inebriated on duty. and I've never met a cop on duty, who was a good one, who was drunk."

Ni nodded. "How would you know?"

"Hells Kitchen." You replied.

At that, Ni gave a nod, this time in approval. "Alright, I'll change the lines to what you have. Now get out."

Bruce remained. "Can we talk a little bit, Ni?"

You decided not to stay, and let the two men talk.

----------------------------------------

You had memorized your lines in less than two days after they were written. They were far more natural, more...

Well, like Bruce, if you were being honest.

Reward: +10 to screen presence rolls. Your scenes are a little shorter, but they are far more impactful.

-------------------------

Production Quality=25

Production is going well, in fact, you are a week ahead of schedule. Things are looking up for now.

------------------------------------

A/N:

I rolled this time, and my word were the results glorious.

Huh... That Actually Went Pretty Well: Fists of Fury Filming Results (January-May 1971)

When production began and the script was written, you had expected Hot trash, especially after the great deal of... problems that plagued it, from pacing issues, to the overtop campiness, to even the character motivations.

Not to mention the corny, almost racist dialogue that should never have been put to paper in the first place.

Then, after an hour-long conversation with Bruce, along with a twenty-day writing spree from Ni, the script that came through was... bearable.

It was a simple revenge thriller, nothing more, nothing less, it wasn't going to recreate the wheel.

And it had a few very good lines.

Reward: The Script is... passable, and will not be rewritten.

------------------------------------------

You had never doubted Bruce for a Second, and it showed in every frame that had his face plastered on it. He was calm, cool, and collected, but when he spoke, he was effortlessly cool, with grace and an easiness that truly showed how much he was going to change.

There were many layers in his performance, and from the few lines of dialogue that spoke about his past, a very rich one.

And then James died (in the film of course), and he went into a rage that was legendary.

His killing spree of the scum may not win him any awards in the states, but he showed pain, heartbreak, and in the very end, remorse for his actions during his suicide run towards the police, which will end his life.

Chang was not just a character, it was Bruce himself, taking all his anger and frustrations, not only at Hollywood and his broken career there, but at coming to terms with it, and proving that Hollywood missed out on possibly one of the greatest talents of this generation.

And you were happy to be on set every day of filming in the brutal 1-month long production.

The same could be said, not only for the co-star of this production, James Tien. While he was considered the go-to badass in the film, He had a playful charm, and a decent amount of charisma that oozed well on screen, though it was to an extent not as powerful or captivating as Bruce, if only for his lack of screentime.

However, he used every bit of that screen time to perform a good man, a flawed man, and above all else, a man who just wanted to do good, not only for his family but for his community.

And his eyes when he was killed. Damn, they were haunting.

Tony Liu SP=69 Noice

Tony was just there, not because of anything bad, it was just that everyone around him was far more interesting as a character, but he made himself memorable by discovering the body in the Ice factory.

He made it count.

The Leading lady in the Film had a passable performance. And while you liked it, there was a very clear drop in the quality of her performance, compared to everyone else.

Unfortunately, the script was very weak in that department, and while Maria was talented, she was given very little, and what little she got was overshadowed by everyone.

She was a pretty face that became the love interest of Bruce's character.

You hadn't expected her to steal the show in the leading ladies' department. No one really did, if you were being honest.

Really you hadn't, she was supposed to be a side character, according to the director, but in her few minutes, she not only gave crucially critical development to the plot, and pushed the stakes up even further for the regular people who were being extorted by the Big Boss, but also just by being friendly.

You really liked how she acted her scenes, and so did the director.

Han Ying-Chieh SP=53

And then there was the big boss himself, the villain in the story. He was supposed to be some villain, cardboard cookie-cutter drug dealer, and runner, who used the Ice factory he owned to peddle his evil narcotics through Asia.

But Han did something no one expected. He added layers to his character. He played him like a mobster from the 30s, a generous man to his community, but his acts of charity hid a dark side, a monster that mutilated men, women, and children alike to hold onto his power.

He was a powerful force, that not only felt dangerous with his very name being whispered with fear and horror, even by his men.

Plus how he handled you during your brief prologue was something amazing, and made you want to work with him again.

And the final fight scene was a sight to behold, with not a single wasted movement, not a single lingering frame. Just two men wanting to kill each other.

And it was awesome!

Bruce "The Goose" O'Brian SP=110

And then there was you.

The Decoy protagonist. The guy that should have been the hero but cut down in the first few minutes to make way for the real hero. Those were story beats that you have read before in books and seen on TV and in movies.

But being one, was something to behold.

With the script changes, you now were a cerebral detective, a man who was ready to discover the terrors that awaited him, and moved with a suave cool energy, that his cheap suit and laid-back demeanor hid.

Every ounce of energy, your energy portrayed a man who was competent, skilled, and above all else, a man who could have easily been the hero.

Never in your life has the Decoy Protagonist been used to such perfection, and that was not because you were playing said decoy.

You left all the effort on film, and it showed.

The Director, Lo Wei was skeptical to bring in a foreign martial arts student and actor onto his set, at the behest of his star, when he had no real talent.

He would learn to trust Bruce's Judgement from here on out when it came to regarding talent.

And he said you had a future in this business, if not in America, then in Hong Kong.

------------------------------------------

Bruce/James Chemistry=55

The same could not be said about the chemistry between the two men.

They did not act like family, not close family, not even family at all, just two strangers that seemed to battle each other for dominance.

But there were flashes of a familial connection on screen. So there was that.

Bruce/Tony Chemistry=55

But you could not say the same about Tony and Bruce. They became friends talking about some poetry and TV during the breaks between filming and that friendship, like all great films, carried over onto the camera.

They were truly comrades in arms, and they were wonderful.

Bruce/Yu Chemistry=25

There was no romantic bone between them, Hell they struck as more as two people who were just working with each other, and not even that well.

In fact, there was some hostility on set where the two would not even interact with each other on set.

Bruce/Mria Chemistry=55

How could Bruce be so charming, but so horribly dense? He was very much trying to keep an arm's length away from every one of the female costars so there could be no nasty rumors that could be used against him by the press or one of the crews with a grudge. He loved his wife too much to try and bring her into that drama or have her question his loyalty to her.

Even then, there was a real friendship blooming beneath the surface.

Bruce/Han Chemistry=83

There was hardly but ten minutes of total screen time between the two of them, but you'd think that they had been enemies for decades.

The two men had a hatred for one another on camera, and Bruce's ability as an actor, along with Han's reputation built up throughout the movie, was a sight to behold.

There was true animosity that was brewing, and every second of it was captured on film.

Goose/Han Chemistry=84

Of course, what needed to be said about you and Han, your dreaded rival!

In the film, of course. You both shared precisely two minutes together, and already the detective met his Moriarty, and your proclamations before he executed you were something you rarely got to do in any work outside of Hamlet.

You channeled every bit of your talents into this film, and of course, there was something that you were happy and proud of.

------------------------------------------

Production Design=41

You did not like what they did, cheating out on the production design. From the cheap and itchy suits and outfits to the clearly lower-end designs, you were left wondering where the hell would the pomp come from.

At least you looked a little older than a teenager, and the makeup really allowed everyone to look that much better on film.

But it wasn't much.

But where the budget went was the locations of the film itself in Thailand. Every location, from the Ice factory, to the Brothel (Which was a real Brothel, they dropped ten thousand to rent it for three days for filming, with all the prostitutes working as extras, and being paid for a day's work for each day of filming)

Even the mansion where the final fight was a real place, in one of the Parks in the nearby city.

Everything about the locations and where you shot was perfectly picked out.

To say that the choreography was steller was really underselling how well Bruce and company planned out the action set pieces. It was phenomenal.

The stunt team even hated Bruce when he Arrived and took over for coordination duties.

However, after a fight where Bruce kicked one of them across a room, they would soon follow Bruce Lee into hell, or at the very least, into any danger their bodies required of them.

You really like them, and your fight was not only exhilarating but artistic. This was an artist at work when commanding the human body, and others for the film.

He made you seem superhuman.

But that is why when he did his stunts, in the Ice factory, and against Han...

He was Super Human. He moved faster than cameras, he moved faster than you could even physically see.

The Director, like you, had heard stories about the Green Hornet and asked him to slow down, if only for the camera to catch him, which pissed Bruce off.

In protest, he did an entire take going at full speed.

No one saw it, not even you, for you blinked and it was over.

Bruce came up with a few ideas in the production.

He would make funny sounds that indicated action, a huawa! and YAHWA!

Or something like that.

He said it gave him a character tick and help out the stunt team during fights.

And enjoyed it because it was so fun to do.

Flaws During Production=41

There were really no flaws that happened during production. No hurdles to jump over, no walls to climb, nothing. Anything bad that could have happened just... didn't.

Well, besides Bruce really missing his family. But your presence was something that helped him out with his pain and homesickness.

----------------------------------------------------------

Due to Production Quality, the Film will be released in July of 1971.

Do you want to negotiate with the Director to Reshoot your Scenes?
[]Yes
[]No.

A/N:

For this decision, I'll slap a thirty-minute moratorium on to invite some discussion.

The Big Boss: Box Office and Reactions (June 1971)
Critics: 10+15=25

You looked at the reviews, and felt a very terrible feeling in your gut, most assuredly because it was really weird. But that was not the thing that you feared the most.

It was a quote from one of the British reviewers, the name of which you did not really care to see, but it read.

"The entire first ten minutes of the film could have been cut out and the threat of the Big Boss that is the title character could have been explained. Despite the fine acting from a boy that clearly has potential, he is nothing more than wasted celluloid that drags the story down to a halt before the action begins."

However, another review also criticized Bruce.

"The Entire film can be called a vehicle for a poor actor who has a far too loud sense of entitlement and not enough skill to back up his claims. The Fights, perhaps the only thing that this movie has going for it, were nothing short of cartoonish and Loony toon-like, ripping away all the tension. The Sounds that Lee makes are like a child crying for his parents and the very idea that he needs to make such sounds are ridiculous. He failed in Hollywood, and he will fail in this silly film as well, which is not even worthy of being called a film."

That was not what you saw in the editing room. Then again, you didn't work in the editing room.

But you were upset that they called your entire scene good but entirely unnessecery.

Well screw them.

Audience Reaction: 88+15=103

However, there was one thing you know that is better than anyone is that people who pay to watch movies are entirely more trustworthy than the so-called critics, and besides, you were not after accolades after all.

And judging from the massive crowds that you saw at the Hong Kong Premiere when you were with Bruce, it was something amazing.

After the first two rounds of moviegoers came out, you saw them practicing sparing and playfighting, trying out some of the moves they saw, including the bicycle kick that you saw Bruce succeed in doing.

Everyone in Hong Kong, by the end of the Night, Knew who Bruce Lee was.

And a fraction of them, you hope, also know your name as well.

Hollywood Bigwigs: 64+15=79

But if there was anything that you knew about Hollywood, they were trend hoppers, and they knew for a fact that, when they saw you, a White kid doing martial arts, not only competently, but with, at least the on screen mastery that Bruce Lee taught, and in a way that looked authentic...

And real. Real was Cheap...

And real made money.

Lots of money...

The same could not be said however in Asia...

Asian Markets: 29+15=44

Well you expected it, but a lot of people did not respect the name Goose.

They just considered you an after thought, an expressive one that had talent, but not one that could really... carry a role.

Now... onto more positive things! Like money!

Budget: 100,000
Hong Kong Box office: 4,479,209 (Profit at end of the Year)
International Box Office: 53,115,934 (Profit at the End of Year)
Total Production Profit: 57,495,143
Bruce 5% Take: 2,874,757.15
Goose 1% Take: 576,957.57

Holy cow that made a lot of money.

Bruce is now a millionare...

And you made half a million. How the hell did this thing make so much money?

A/N:

Procrastination really hit me here. Magoose qrote this up about two weeks ago, and I've been sitting on it for too long. Sorry. :V

Also, typing on a phone right now, so the quality of typing might suck due to my big, fat fingers. :V

I've Made a Fortune, but I Don't Know what to Do Now: Turn 7 (July 1971)
You were looking at the paper and looked at Bruce. "I thought you said you weren't going back to the states? You can retire with this money Bruce."

"I may, but that would not be what I want. This would just be accepting that I was one and done. I want to return to Hollywood and make a career there." He said.

"And you still do low budget TV shows, that will never really air that well, where you are not only not the star, but also a villain?" You asked.

That made Bruce give his trademark smile. "Weren't you the one who said one must work to get work?"

You frowned. "But why not work here in Hong Kong?"

"Because the next film we are going to make hasn't even been written, and my treatments are never really that good." He said.

"Ohh come on Bruce, your treatment was fantastic." You said. "A San Francisco Hatchet man, and the triads during the Gold Rush and post-civil war? The Tong Wars you kept talking about? That sounds awesome."

There was a chuckle from Bruce. "To you maybe, a friend who knows my interests, but to everyone else? Especially in San Francisco where the memory still lingers? I doubt that it would be viewed as properly."

"But why keep working in America, if you know that here you'll be treated better?"

"Why do you want to stay in Hong Kong?" He asked.

That caused you to pause. "I don't know."

"Think about it, not about what you want, but how to further your career. Will Hollywood accept you, or will you stay in a place where you know someone will need a white boy who can do martial arts? There is always a market for that." He then started to walk toward his wife and family. "Think on that. Do what you believe is right, but never forget that you want to be an actor."

You remembered.

A Few Hours later.

As the Cash came in, you truly... only saw that there was only one thing to do.

One thing that you could find and do well.

Get Better at your Craft. This small role was a taste. The first step, into a larger, more opulent world.

What do you do now?

[]Go Home: Clint must be worried about you right now, so you might as well get on home, and pay him back after so much work he gave to you.

[]Stay in China?: Perhaps Hong Kong would be a good place to build up your name. You had heard that next year, there will be another film starring Bruce that will be in production, and perhaps, this time, you can get a larger starting role?

[]Go Somewhere Else?: There is a big big world out there. Perhaps, you can find your own way, somewhere else. (Write in where you would like to go?)

A/N:

After a long, unannounced hiatus(sorry about that), the quest is back! Now that Magoose has less quests to worry about and now that I'm resolving to not procrastinate updating the quest, we should hopefully bring this quest back with a bang!

Also, @Magoose, you'll need to choose a bonus for your second omake.

Also also, there shall be a 1 Hour moratorium so that people can catch up on the quest and vote informed. Yeah, that's all.

You had the perfect lines.

Well actually, they were not perfect, but by god, they were funny in your head.

Every time you work on them, more material from your memories and the stories you heard from your father, clint and others flooded into the material.

it was incredible just how much material you had.

And you used every bit of it.

Reward: +5 to writing stat.

"so Here I was in high school, it happened in High School, and uh, we had this teacher, called Mr. O'Maily and he had this kid called Jack. O'maily, he was a sophomore, I was an uh, senior. May not look like it but I was a senior. See, Mr. O'Maily was an absolute cunt, like, if you had a picture to describe how badly he was a cunt, he would be the dictionary photo of it. We all hated him, he was a bloody cunt, now, he and his wife, were going out of town. And that's a terrible idea because he was such a cunt.

So we decided to throw a party, at Mr. O'Maily's house. Hurray...

And word spread around town, and we decided to destroy the place.

So I walked into this party, and everyone whom I'd ever known was there, and everyone was drinking like it was the end of the world. Like it was the civil war, and a surgeon coming our way to saw something off, it was bloody wild.

Utterly unsupervised.

Like dogs without horses, we were running wild.

And I walked down to the basement, they had a pool table in the basement, and one of my mates, took a running start and broke the entire bloody thing in half with his body, and didn't get up.

Then one of the mates discovered Mr. O'Maily's bedroom and took a shit on his bed. Right on his bed, it was wild.

The Party was going fantastically.

Now I'm holding a glass, you've seen the glass. And I was starting to black out. I was hammered.

I guess someone said, something police.

So in a brilliant moment of word association, I decided to say the one thing that a drunk Irishman should say when the coppers come.

FUCK THE POLICE!

And everyone else joined in, all 100 lads and lasses at this party, they were so drunk...

And we all shouted fuck the police.

I can't remember much about what happened, cause I work up in my bed, and had no idea how in blazes I got there.

And when I went back to school on Monday, because that's what we did after illegally fucking a man's house, I saw jack.

He asked me if I was at the party. He didn't remember a thing that night.

And I told him no.

Needless to say that Mr. O'Maily was incredulous, and wasn't as much of a cunt ever again.

Reward: Your comedy is a riot act. Vegas wants to try and keep you around as a headliner.

Bad timing no longer affects you.

The girl was a party girl on vacation with her rich whale of a father, a professional poker player that was playing in a tournament being held in the city.

Her name was Alison Ashmore, and you were going to be completely honest, she was kinda boring once you got past the good looks and the cheery smile.

Sure the red dress she wore was something breathtaking, but then again, the time you spent together was mixed.

When you first met, she was seemingly a pretty face that was board of the desert and the heat. And she was trying to handle the situation as best she could. and you took your chance with the whole introduction.

She did not recognize you as a movie star or a commercial but instead thought you were working for the hotel. It was not really the best thing to be there, and she had immediately wondered if you could get booze from the hotel so she could get hammered.

You did not do that.

To say that the date you had was something of a disaster was an understatement.

Her parents caught your show after you had done it, and they were appalled by your foul-mouthed and crass humor. And then she hugged you.

You had feared that a shotgun would be pulled on you and you would be brought down to the county courthouse.

Instead, you quietly explained how you met, and that you were just going to have a date before he left.

That got you a table for two...

And her parents were watching every moment.

A mood killer to be sure.

And you realized she was far more than your first thought.

Everything she talked about was surface-level knowledge about anything, and she clearly did not have the tact. Yet there was a charm in her conversations, and she clearly knew what she was talking about in the world of fashion and gossip. in fact, you learned she was a tailor.

Every time you changed the subject she was excited and eager to talk about it before she showed knowledge of the subjects you talked about, and it was honestly refreshing.

After the fifth time, it was clear she was running out of subjects she knew by heart, and then was grasping at the straws.

After the tenth time, it was clear she could keep going with basic knowledge, and she was going to keep up.

Then you talked about movies and showed your clear understanding of the art and science of moviemaking. That made her listen to every word you had.

After the meal was done, you quietly excused yourself and got yourself back to the room...
And she left a nice note.

Reward: You have met Alison Ashmore.

She was nice, charming and well read, but nothing really more.

You had looked at the suitcase and then at the family that had shown you nothing but kindness in the last year you were here. Clint was squinting and being his usual self when he saw you and quietly waved. "Bruce, good to see you."

You nodded as you walked forward and gave everyone a hug. "Thanks Clint."

"You in town for a bit?" He asked as he sat and you did as well by the pool, the kids playing around and Clints wife getting some water for the both of you.

"Actually I'm conducting business with an apartment building, and I have a large ownership stake in it." You replied. "Turns out all that money I made is being used wisely."

"You talk to your parents about that?" He asked as you were served a glass of water.

"No." You replied. "I'm thinking of living in the building though."

Clint then coughed. "You sure you can handle the responsibility of that? it's a very big responsibility."

"I think it will be a good thing CLint, and that if I'm lucky, things will be working out for me, and maybe if the acting thing doesn't work, then things might work out well in real estate."

Clint laughed. "Well then, don't take my advice if everything is all settled for you."

"Yeah i'm just worried about a lot of things. Mostly getting work." You replied.

"Well don't be scared for work, that is always going to be a problem. Just keep doing what you are doing and then everything will be alright." Clint replied.

"Oh and I think that I'm forgetting something." You then handed over the suitcase.

Clint tried to protest. "wait a minute, if that's what-"

"It is." You replied. "And I won't take no for an answer. You showed enough kindness to last a lifetime and I still don't think it will be enough."

"Bruce I cannot accept-" Clint protested.

"Then don't take my money, give it to your kids." You replied. "Just for the love of god, don't try and send it back."

Clint knew that you were stubborn. "Very well." He took a deep breath, clearly not happy about what had just happened. "Good luck Bruce."

The Building was huge, with over 10 stories and well over 100 rooms. The Apartment building was still barely close to finishing construction, but a group of buys were short on funds to actually buy the property.

But the company had somehow went over budget, and then the group who built it raised their prices to cover the costs of the delays.

The group of people, the investrors in the building, were more then happy to have you join the group to foot the last of the bill.

Then the group was ripped apart by in fighting over who actually owned the building how much each would get paid and

All the while you bought some furnishings, and started to live there. No one else who was part of the group really noticed... until you decided to furnish the entire building (Rather cheaply, it only cost you less then a thousand dollars).

Everyone was amazed, and you did not really care. You had a 15% stake in the building, and you just wanted then to hurry up and get on with their arguments so they can rent it our already.

After being shown up by a teenager, the group got its act together and helped rent out the rooms. And they did not seem to mind that you took the best one for yourself, seeing as you furnished the place for them.

Reward: Have a partial ownership of an apartment building.

You make 5,000 dollars per month from rent.

You also have an apartment all to yourself. Gain +1 action.

And you of course listened to him, how one producer Larry Gelbert actually saw your Vegas performances last month and thought you were a riot act and wanted to call you in, but no one knew who you were, and he was flashing around a picture of you everywhere in Hollywood. It wasn't until Brooks saw the photo that the two men finally talked to you. Gelbert wanted you on the show he was developing, as a character from the Novel. Corporal Walter Eugene O'Reilly, or known as Radar O'Reilly in the script. (You have been offered the Role of Radar O'Reilly on MASH)

A MASH of a Meeting (October 1971)
You kept twiddling your thumbs as you waited for the interview to begin. There was tripe of the usual Hollywood types, secretaries, other producers, and of course, another, more sinister sort that was watching you. The Talent Scouts, the producers who wanted their ideas to win… while there was possibly the most important thing of all that could cause you to set about.

The Heads of the studios themselves were wandering about. They were looking for the next big thing, hoping and listening to the next show.

Yet you took a moment to take a breath and remember to breathe. Remember some of the techniques that Bruce taught you when you were training.

It kept you calm, despite the various looks it got from the others who were watching you.

Everyone marveled at the sight of a young man, so calm, just waiting and sitting and otherwise… Being better and less afraid than everyone else.

Then the door opened, and you saw the man you were waiting for, Larry Gelbert. "Mister O'Brian." He said your name as you stood up. "Come in."

You walked into the room and took a seat, opening up as you quietly gave a small smile to the producer. Then Larry sat down.

"You asked me here?" You stated a question rather than a true statement. That made the producer look at you curiously.

"Indeed." He said. "You see there is this show I am developing, something that I hold quite a bit of faith in."

"I read the script, quite funny, but why me, if you don't mind me asking? What is the appeal you see in me?" You asked.

Larry smiled. "Quite simple, your young, cheap, and my eye for talent is impeccable?"

You frowned as you crossed your arms. "Cheap? I get the eye for talent, and I know I am that good but cheap?"

"First job in Hollywood, most people would kill to be in your position? Especially after a show in Vegas?"

"Not my first job." You replied. "I worked in China with Bruce Lee."

That made the producer frown before he looked at the picture again. Then he asked. "Goose?"

"A Funny nickname that I will never escape, so lets stick to Bruce or O'Brian." You stated bluntly. "Now, let's talk."

"Didn't think you would work on TV?" He asked.

"Well, I have been of the proposition that work can lead to work. And that a job is a job. It's only when passion gets involved that it can become more. Haven't found one that has the passion yet." You smiled. "Just the need to get cash?"

Larry then changed the subject. "You have a knack for comedy."

"Pretty terrible at it to be honest." You replied. "People think the material is what you need, but you need timing, sense and just being real. Unfortunately, that isn't me. I never had it."

"Yet you worked in Vegas, for over a month, and drew the most crowds that that casino had ever seen. Could have made a lot of money." He stated. "Why did you leave?"

"Business opportunity. That and my joy in life is acting, can't do that on stage telling jokes." You replied.

At that Larry nodded. "Yet I have one more question. One more. What do you think gets your attention on this show?"

What caught your attention?:

"So… What do you need?" He asked.

"Money?"

Of course, money. "Yes. You are without an agent, but something tells me you know that."

What do you want as payment?
