LexCorp had taken a solid PR hit for how things had played out at the very end.
It's not as though everyone hates you but there is controversy over what happened and your reputation is to an extent possible.
That is the definition of victim blaming! Saying that because the crazy guy with a gun was shouting for Lex means that it was his fault and that the event itself is to blame is completely shifting the blame from who it really belongs to, the guy that actually committed the crime
William Walsh... the dude who did this:-the last of the important individuals whose reactions she had been noting was that of ex-DEO agent William Walsh who was very interested in spreading this technology to as many people as possible.
William Walsh was a particular concern as he had dropped off of the grid to do who knows what and had now reappeared to attend this event. It was concerning to say the least especially since he had been representing a foreign government in order to enter.
She'd kill the fucking Jackal holding her son hostage. Wait, Rose had no son and she didn't know any jackals but she'd kill the fucking backstabber as she should have back in 'Nam. A shot to the chest was too good for scum like him but Rose had never shot this man before and she certainly had never been to Vietnam before. Her mind muddled and grew confused and angry as voices grew louder and louder and the urge to just give in and ride the hate and the rage and give in to instinct roared and slowly crushed any pretense at other things. Rose knew who she was and what she was meant to do. That hadn't changed at all. She had to kill and kill and kill and kill and KILL! She was a terminator and she'd slaughter all of those who stood in her way for nothing more than the thrill of glorious combat and victory!
Doesn't the name make it apparent clear?
I mean, I mostly just figured that Sinclair Batson wasn't going to get much of a say in the matter given that Mr. Mind has him pretty close to meat-puppeted.All of you got a bit blindsided by a fairly simple fact. Sinclair Batson and Mr. Mind are two different individuals and Sinclair Batson wants to die (meaning if he sees the opportunity to get killed he is actively going to take it).
Hopefully this means no Gamergate bro culture in the DCQU, what with one of the leading game design companies being led by a woman who, if bitterly jealous of Wonder Woman, is nonetheless a feminist? On an unrelated note can I just mention that I love Veronica Cale's backstory? Like it's great and of all of the super rich people in the DC universe she was the one who got rich off of video games. I find that kind of hilarious.
Well, bonus points to Young Natasha. Also we need anger management and socialization for Jinx. Cassandra is a more disciplined person, I worry less about her."Fuck you, I was here first!" Jinx shouted at the top of her lungs drawing the attention of everyone around her. Mick got what it was to be pissed off but he knew at least intellectually that Jinx's current behavior was making her look bad as people stared at her.
"No thanks" the other girl said calmly "You're not my type"
Heh. Still a few things to learn."Tasha did you explain to her why you entered the line where you did" The man asked with slight overtones of exasperation and fondness in equal measure.
"No" the girl answered "If she wants to scream and yell over something that's obviously not true then nothing I say is going to convince her otherwise"
The man sighed and began to explain to his daughter that if she didn't explain herself to people who were mad at her then they'd assume the worst about her and that she should strive to be more personable going forward.
Well, opportunity mostly-missed, but eh.John Henry was a somewhat pleasant fellow and while he was a little too smooth and polished and put together for Mick to think fondly of him, he wasn't going to be a dick to the man over nothing. His kid and Jinx still didn't get along but after a bit of talking over technology they were no longer quite at each others throats. Hopefully Jinx would eventually get to the point where she could make friends with other kids her age.
D'oh.Lisa's wanderings around the expo ended on a high note actually. Some ginger brat had actually ended up recognizing her for her work in Clockstoppers and asked for an autograph. Being recognized by some snot nosed kid wasn't exactly the fame and fortune most people dreamed of when they went to work in television and movies but at the very least it was nice to be recognized. She ended up giving the girl, whose name started with a B or something and her last name was like Gourden, her autograph and a way to contact Oswald after chatting with her for a bit. Girl was way to eager to talk about all the little details in the show that Lisa was sure Oswald was responsible for. Lisa did her best to not tip her hand to the fact that she never watched Clockstoppers and she figured Ozzy would be better at dealing with a fan of the shows then she would be. He liked kids for some godforsaken reason.
The mother ended up thanking her for indulging her kid and Lisa earned herself some goodwill from a kid and her mom. Honestly it was kind of ridiculous but Lisa was at least able to back in the glow of being recognized for her talents even if it was by some brat whose name she couldn't even remember.
OK that's good. Morale boost if not co-op boost. This thought was only reinforced when Lex took some time out of his busy schedule to visit her during the expo and ask her how she was doing as Cassandra entertained herself with some kind of logic puzzle while dutifully shadowing her fathers footsteps. It wasn't really anything meaningful that he went out of his way to discuss with her but the fact that he cared enough to at least see what she was doing and check in with her was more than anyone else did for her. Honestly it was a shitty week all around once Lexpo rolled around but at least once it was all over Lucy was secure that she could be seen as her own person and make her own way in the world at LexCorp.
I like the cut of her jib.Veronica Cale
Veronica was not truly impressed by the so called Lexpo. It was certainly an extravagant symbol to Lex Luthor's ego and a demonstration of his power but the rather juvenile need to strut and boast like a peacock of some kind was rather distasteful for Veronica. She could appreciate the ability to work hard for power and the ambition to see things go your way but such ostentatious displays never really suited her. Lex was a showman while Veronica preferred to work from the shadows. Her contributions to both Wayne Enterprises medical technology and her rather dominant performance in conquering the video game market were utterly unknown to the world at large. Even her latest project Cale-Anderson Pharmaceuticals was not well known to the world at large despite being a massive success.
That is not to say that she didn't find Lex Luthor the man to be impressive. By all accounts the man genuinely earned what he had and while his need to display his power was a touch off putting it wasn't enough for her to dismiss him out of hand. After all everyone had their flaws and if Lex Luthor liked to preen and show off his passes to the masses then that was simply a flaw, not something that poisoned the whole of who he was. Expecting perfection was the height of stupidity and the sign of the truly imbecilic.
Excellent. So when Lex Luthor approached Veronica to speak with her, she was open minded about the possibility of working with him. After all he was a genius and while Veronica wouldn't deign to put herself beneath him she knew that he had many more resources and opportunities than she did. The fact that Lex Luthor was familiar with her work only caused her opinion of him to rise. The brief talk of business between the two of them was enjoyable and was certainly likely to be profitable. They'd likely have to meet after the expo to hash out all of the details but Veronica knew this was an opportunity to make even more money going forward and she was more than happy to let Luthor take the credit so he could have the glory and acclaim he craved so long as she got a cut of the power and profits. This would be an excellent partnership.
...Uh.Diana Prince
Lex Luthor's event was certainly interesting. Diana had been in Man's World for a few years but never before had she seen such a sea of bodies before her.
Also sheesh we are working on the stun weapons. The event was spectacular and Diana couldn't help but enjoy herself despite trying to stay on guard for what was coming. The exo-suits Luthor had developed were particularly impressive and while they were not the non-lethal weapons the DOMA needed Diana could see that this would prove very successful in abating the fears of the government in this ever changing world. Eiling in particular looked eager to get his hands on them.
So Mr. Mind was after us. And... gutsy of Luthor.Somehow a man had killed a member of the Metropolis Police Department and stolen both his uniform and gun and was now taking hostages until Lex Luthor showed up and surrendered himself to him. Luthor rushed out and Diana followed. Whereas Diana went to immediately help coordinate evacuating civilians, Luthor went to confront the gunman and stall for time after having gotten Cassandra out of harms way.
Note: Either Sinclair was, or Mr. Mind is, a frighteningly good shot. No wild gunfire here as I understand it.The infiltrator though had realized that his ability to disguise himself and hide was over now. He fired twice into the crowd, killing a police officer and injuring another before taking people hostage. The infiltrator demanded to have Lex Luthor meet him. Rose rushed over to where the infiltrator was to try and get in on the action. The civvies were fleeing and that wasn't Rose's area of expertise.
Well, shit, Mr. Mind went for the buffet AND the five-star dinner.Rose woke up three days later in the hospital. Once they knew what was going on and that Rose was awake Mercy came to pick her up and explain the situation to her. Rose was not being charged with anything but public perception was fairly mixed. On top of that numerous bodies of scientists that were effectively braindead were found scattered throughout the remains of the expo.
Smearing a mentally ill person... let's not.[X] [Aftermath] Smear Sinclair Batson's name as much as possible to make him look like a deluded schizophrenic who just happened to get lucky when getting past the guards
KC did mention that only two targets in Mr. Mind's eyes, were Lois and Luthor.
Ring ring..I mean, I mostly just figured that Sinclair Batson wasn't going to get much of a say in the matter given that Mr. Mind has him pretty close to meat-puppeted.
Hopefully this means no Gamergate bro culture in the DCQU, what with one of the leading game design companies being led by a woman who, if bitterly jealous of Wonder Woman, is nonetheless a feminist?

Heh. Still a few things to learn.
Well, opportunity mostly-missed, but eh.
D'oh.
I... can't help but keep being frustrated that the people we get control over the actions of during these events, aside from Lex himself, tend to be exactly the people who aren't suited to the job of making connections and focusing on the bigger picture. At least last time, the people Carl interacted with, he tried to recruit or at least put in a good word with. Lisa... didn't really even try.
OK that's good. Morale boost if not co-op boost.
I like the cut of her jib.
Excellent.
...Uh.
@King crimson
Diana has been operating in or around Washington, D.C. for a couple of years and has had numerous opportunities to see major public demonstrations, events, rallies... I actually feel kind of sorry for her if she's ever attended the 4th of July festivities on the Washington Mall, which are absurdly crowded and packed and probably a lot bigger than would even fit in Centennial Park.
I strongly, strongly suspect that unless she has been deliberately avoiding crowds, even when doing so would make her seem a bit strange, she has seen a crowd like this at least a few times.
Sorry for the nitpick, but as a DC area native, I just think it'd be a bit surprising for someone to work as a senior government official for years and never see a big crowd. Wonder Woman, with her alter ego being Diana Prince, minor functionary in the Department of the Navy or something, might not see crowds much, but Diana Prince, who is at most one or two steps down the totem pole from a Cabinet secretary, would have seen a few in the past five years.
Also sheesh we are working on the stun weapons.
So Mr. Mind was after us. And... gutsy of Luthor.

I don't want full transparency when we have a pretty credible case for spinning this. And I do NOT want to blame the police and sour our relationship with them when the very nature of that relationship means that while we control them, they have dirt on us just by how we exercise that control.
Also...
[X] [Aftermath] Write-in: Provide full medical care to the casualties while secretly gathering data to determine how they were injured.
Revealing what projects you are dealing with at any given time, revealing to the consumers every step you have taken in creating a product, providing a list of where the money goes and the internal systems and departments at LexCorp and providing the information on who you are meeting with and when. This can be dialed back in a write-in but the more details you reveal the harder it gets to hide anything.
This is fine as a write-in@King crimson how's this? :-
[ ] [Aftermath] Write-in: Shift the blame onto others, more specifically a poor & beleaguered National Healthcare system. Begin a campaign for Healthcare Reforms so people who are Physically & Mentally ill can be better diagnosed and recieve help.
That might be a mistake on my part. I will say that Diana has been avoiding crowds for the most part (the DEO was secretive as hell and didn't really interact with people and she's been busy as the Director of the DOMA) but you are likely correct in your assessment. I'll go back over it once I get things more in order in my life and possibly make the correction to change it from "never" to "rarely"...Uh.

They are all people who are not hero units. Basically while Mr. Mind was at the event and he figured he had all the time in the world to eat he went after minor scientists who wouldn't be missed who while better than the average person are still nothing special since he knew that if he caused a panic or went after Luthor first he'd be unable to get more. Once he learned he was on a time limit he switched tacks and immediately went after the biggest payoff and his main target since he was running out of time and if he dawdled as he initially planned to do he would have no chance of getting the prize. Mr. Mind switched plans dependent on the context.@King crimson , can we get a list of the brain-drained? Anyone we've dealt with previously?
Can you please dial back the 'bra' and 'bruh' jokes and the meme-ing about random quests that aren't related to this one? La-la, how the life goes on~~
That's why Expos are bad. With no bad guy left to pin the blame on, everyone would blame the OG host.
Or at least that's how mafia works.
The problem is that, well, we DID have a mass shooter type infiltrate our event, somehow disable several scientists by means unknown (though we may be able to pass that off as an unrelated event and not our fault), and kill multiple security guards and hold a little boy hostage with a gun to his head. It's not a good combination and we could reasonably be subject to a lot of criticism for insufficient security measures.[] [Aftermath] Engage in total transparency to attempt to assuage any fears of LexCorp being in the wrong by the public
We have nothing to hide, this really was something completely out of lexcorp's control and lex had no prior interaction with siclair batson before this event so better to just open up and reveal to the public what's up.
This sounds like a high-DC Intrigue check, because we have to make it somehow look like Sinclair Batson was a major Lois Lane fan or something, when we have no evidence for that and no reason to believe we do. Also Lois hasn't actually published that many damning hit pieces on us, if any, because we've stopped her from digging up any dirt.[ ] [Aftermath] Make use of your control of the police to have it seem as though you were investigated while shifting the blame onto others, more specifically Lois Lane.
This. Say she radicalized him with her insistence that we're evil. She caused a teenage girl to be forced to kill this man, and the blood is on her hands.
Looks like. Or has some kind of psychic link to Slade that's making her ape him at stressful moments. Notice that she tore out her eye in a nightmare at some point before we hired her- that's fucked up. And how now she gets dysphoria from having two eyes, so we can't even give her a prosthetic.
OK this is a good idea.[ ] [Aftermath] Write-in: Provide full medical care to the casualties while secretly gathering data to determine how they were injured.
Trying to throw Lois under the bus means we have to wrestle with Lois in a PR battle. There is no reason to think it will be EASY to discredit Lois with this. Unless Sinclair Batson has a convenient pre-existing Handshake page on which he's posted lots of Lois Lane articles criticizing us or something (and faking one up would be a mistake)... It could backfire badly.[ ] [Aftermath] Make use of your control of the police to have it seem as though you were investigated while shifting the blame onto others, more specifically Lois Lane.
I agree, lets throw Lois under the bus.
Yep! I was taking that as a given, though.A tiny bit of possible horror to keep you all guessing and to let you in on a rather disturbing thing that has happened. Sinclair has been confirmed dead, Mr. Mind has not. There were thousands of people in that crowd and no one was watching for a little worm (and he is a telepath who can mind control and eat knowledge once he get close enough to someone). If Mr. Mind is not dead there are literally thousands of candidates for his new host and you don't know who they are.
The good news is, no one's going to question it if we expand and train up security after this. But the public does not know about sinclair's mind powers from what they saw a psychopast just got past lexcorp's security and murdered a bunch of scientists which means that our security is lacking and due to that a young girl had to take a man's life.
I mean, this is one of the biggest mass gatherings likely to happen in Metropolis this year. Of course the police were there and coordinating with LexCorp security. That's normal. And if a reporter asks "Why" were you at the event" the police would likely answer "Because LexCorp arranged for us to help be security there").
@jonasquinnJust because we hosted the event doesn't make us to blame if someone attacks it, Lex was there negotiating with the criminal, the security wasn't lax we trusted half of it to the police and they're the ones who fucked up...
I'm pretty sure she's legally an adult? Maybe eighteen or nineteen?and that "child" is a nearly full grown adult who attended a military academy before she took a job working for us
We are known to be supporters of the police, and the police and LexCorp security troops worked together closely during this event, as they should have been doing. Given that there were casualties on both our part and the police's part, and that there are multiple dead cops involved and the cops do NOT like it when cops die... I think we'd better avoid trying too hard to blame the cops or get upset at the cosmic injustice of other people blaming us along with the cops.I'm sorry for insulting you but I want to make clear that what I'm saying is that as far as the public is concerned the police and Lexcorp are separate entities, yes we worked together on this event but if a police officer messed up that isn't our fault, we didn't train or hire him
I mean...wouldnt he support it as it forces Lois into his hands and out of press? This would get his backingBefore people move to throw Lois under the bus, please consider General Sam Lane is RIGHT THERE. For all their issues, Lois is the favorite daughter and General Lane is going to be considered both a direct witness and an authority on this kind of situation. Add that to his political pull, which is apparently enough to kill restraining orders, and you've got a dirty dealing heavyweight on her side.
And of course, you've got 'Clark Kent'. And Lois herself being the archetype of investigative reporting.
Framing someone in the court of public opinion who has a platform to preach with is hard enough without all that stuff.

When we successfully frame her for the deed (and we will) she will be all but rushed out the door of her office building and find her self "Persona non grata" in any office, thus driving her back to her father. The good general may not appreciate the (probably true from the outside view) defamation of his daughter but will greatly appreciate her no longer working in journalism, so it balances out and then some.Framing someone in the court of public opinion who has a platform to preach with is hard enough without all that stuff.
I can check my notes but I'm pretty sure she was about sixteen when you hired her and as such she is around 18 or so. I'm not 100% sure though and I can say fairly confidently that she isn't old enough to drink in the US (she's under 21).I'm pretty sure she's legally an adult? Maybe eighteen or nineteen?
@King crimson , am I wrong here? How old is Rose Wilson?
Rose's trait kicking in right there. She has a Killer's instincts. Their just not her own. I've been sitting on that little twist on why the trait was specifically named that for a while waiting to spring it when the time is right.

In our defense, our security would probably have held out a lot better if there hadn't been a fucking telepathic mind control worm on the shoulder of the mass shooter in question, but we can't exactly use that explanation in-character.
This sounds like a high-DC Intrigue check, because we have to make it somehow look like Sinclair Batson was a major Lois Lane fan or something, when we have no evidence for that and no reason to believe we do. Also Lois hasn't actually published that many damning hit pieces on us, if any, because we've stopped her from digging up any dirt.
I think I'd rather leave the "other parties" nonspecific and NOT try to dump all the blame on a single target who may be hard to link to the shooter, but instead take advantage of whatever targets of opportunity we can find.
Succeeding matters more than hacking at Lois Lane's reputation. Let's not make this harder than it has to be.
Looks like. Or has some kind of psychic link to Slade that's making her ape him at stressful moments. Notice that she tore out her eye in a nightmare at some point before we hired her- that's fucked up. And how now she gets dysphoria from having two eyes, so we can't even give her a prosthetic.
Someone or some thing is trying to actively make over Rose Wilson into a gender-swapped version of her father. Which I don't particularly mind as long as she's on our side, but if it makes her erratic and prone to act against our interests, it's a problem I suppose.
Though in this case, I can't complain about her actions viewed in isolation; it's the context that made her problematic. Rose Wilson did the good-soldier thing, given that her markswomanship was up to the task of taking the shot.
OK this is a good idea.
It could backfire badly.
I care more about successfully deflecting this shit-shower so that none lands on US, than I do about making sure that at least some of the deflected shit lands on LOIS. If both Lex and Lois have clean reputations after this, I call it a win; if Lex and Lois both come out moderately dirty, I call it a loss.
Yep! I was taking that as a given, though.
The good news is, we'll be behind our wards and security soon, and weird random peoplebeing puppeted by a Venusian wormwill be turned back by security, and even the Venusian worm is hopefully no more immune to our bad-intent wards than the Invisible Man was.
But we're going to have to be very careful about public appearances. No book tours or anything.
The good news is, no one's going to question it if we expand and train up security after this.
With that said... the public may not even realize the scientists were killed as part of the same event that ended in Sinclair Batson's death. The scientists are catatonic or dead after being brain-drained; that isn't obviously something a bog-standard mass shooter type like Sinclair Batson appears to have been to the public could do. As far as they know, he was just a random lunatic with a gun.
I mean, this is one of the biggest mass gatherings likely to happen in Metropolis this year. Of course the police were there and coordinating with LexCorp security. That's normal.
@jonasquinn
Look, our relationship with the police in Metropolis is a valuable asset that we've spent several AP building up. If you REALLY want to jeopardize our control over them in a Trumpian fit of temper about how the people who we paid good money and effort to train, equip, and establish lines of influence over "screwed up" our event and how it's all their fault and none of it is our fault... you can vote to do that. But it's a bad idea and it risks pissing off Metropolis law enforcement. You know, the guys who have the legal authority to march into our building and just grab our stuff as evidence for anything they can get a warrant for?
Also, Sinclair Batson did manage to kill at least two of our security troopers. This wasn't all the police getting beaten up.
I think we'd be much better off picking a different strategy, NOT blaming the police or getting pissy about how the public is upset with our security... and instead using this event as a pretext to further train and upgrade our security forces so they aren't just redshirt mooks the next time something goes wrong.
I'm pretty sure she's legally an adult? Maybe eighteen or nineteen?
