Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

That starlight elixir looks amazing! Unfortunately for us, the requirements basically meant we didn't actually have much chance to get it before the truce ended -- we would have had to dedicate a Suyin action to approach the dice we have now.

Though, we now know what the Star token gives. The Sun and Moon are left. Since they were given as part of Elder Zhou's Physical training class, I think they would all proc a single physical cultivation roll. Furthermore, the bonuses should all be useful from a combat perspective, so using the combat art dice as a start, the other two tokens should give Qi and Meridian dice, to spend on using those combat arts.

The Sun might be the Qi cultivation dice, since more energy is yang-ish. Which leaves the Moon as the Meridians.

Really glad we were able to bring up our melody to the third level this last turn, The fourth tune will make fighting us will have everyone on a ticking clock. It will be fantastic.

Ouch! So Ji Rong lost his archive pass and effectively is going to be behind a month when unfrozen. That's going to sting a lot. Also, Xuan is firmly part of Cai's faction and seems to be at least mildly positive towards Ling Qi. Might be an interesting social link to cultivate...

Also, formations? *Very potent*. Granted, Xuan is probably at a level higher than Ling Qi can conveniently reach in a few months... still, something to consider. On the tokens, so they're apparently each containing a goody. The Starlight Elixir seems like a pretty handy item; using it for cultivating two (or three) combat arts is good, and since the physical roll triggers once regardless of how many arts being cultivated, it's still useful even if only one art is being cultivated that week.

Argent Soul is closer and closer... and Forgotten Vale Melody dinged of course. Fourth measure requiring mid-Yellow was half-expected, and leaves Ling Qi with just Sable Crescent Step, Argent Soul, Spirit and Physique to cultivate until she advances; it's time to get a new art.

FVM has a 30-meter range now, closer to that of Zephyr's Breath. Longer lingering after playing stops, the befuddling is a bit stronger (and can combine with the initial playing!), the phantom attacks are unchanged... and the new technique is a drainer! Very expensive though - I'm thinking this should be put in a qi card.

Physical cultivation is advancing quite fast, with 19 successes (almost a sixth of the way); with the Starlight Elixir on, say, a new art and Sable Crescent Step and a physical cultivation action, Ling Qi could hit mid-Silver within three weeks if she needed to.

The letter to mother was... awkward - as it should be. Really, Ling Qi ran away over something of a misunderstanding, and her mother has definitely suffered in the time since because of it.

Bai is preparing to try to break through to Green within a month; I would expect Cai and Sun to probably make their initial attempt in a similar timeline, although perhaps a week or two later. Ling Qi should probably keep an ear out for information on success or failure of such attempts. And Bai's favor... oho, this looks intriguing.

I'm not entirely sold on Ling Qi being up to snuff for the trials beyond the door, if they require two Yellow realm cultivators. But then, she *is* also silver... and Bai is late Yellow. Hmm... supplies... I'd say one more of the +10 qi restoration pills (so there's two for Bai and two for Ling), perhaps another salve (one for each), perhaps.

The discussion topics... gah. Spirits and binding might be valuable, but Bai's thoughts on cultivation goals for the Yellow realm might also be good. The inner sect competition - Ling Qi needs to know more about it, although it's not urgent. And politics and history is something she's definitely lacking in (and should remedy fairly soon).

[X] Imperial politics and recent history in general

When it comes down to it, there'll be information on spirits and binding in the archives, I wager, if Ling Qi can't go to Bai or Han Jian later for it. Ling Qi can guess at cultivation goals herself - acquire more qi, acquire more arts, finish argent soul, start eight phase cycle, cultivate physique and spirit. And the competition is many months out; there's plenty of time to prepare (and, again, preparation can be somewhat guessed-at - "get gud"). Politics, on the other hand... Ling Qi needs to get a more complete picture, I think, before she offends someone or decides to try and approach others of her 'peers' in Yellow.

A thought does come to mind - that if the knowledge about spirits and binding is needed past the bronze door...

I wonder if we could combine formations research with Li Suyin with the tokens action.

Actually I got the feeling the tokens are meant to motivate us to research formations!

Good idea.

I am hoping mom tracks us down and moves into the nearby town.

Does the Qi Foundation pill still work? Or did we wind up wasting our chance to use our last one?

'Waste' is a weird word here, since the only thing it's good for for us is Argent Soul, which we're finishing off pretty damn quick. But no, it's no longer useful to us, we should give it to either Ling or Suyin.

not just AS. Foundation pills gives +9 dice to cultivation art (argent soul), opening meridians, and Qi increases.

It doesn't work anymore. we should gift or trade the last one.

I would simply say that we earned more in the time frame that we had then what we could use in that time frame. It won't be a waste if we trade it to Su Ling, or give it to Li Suyin to help her, or convert it into spirit stones. Either way, we got what we could out of them, and now we are merely a week away from breakthrough of AS.

As for the FVM third level, whoever suggested that it might have to deal with taking people's qi away was a genius.

To be fair, if you were thinking of me, I was more musing about an art that would do that as being a good combination with FVM. Hmmm... considering that, I'm wondering if there won't be a sonic single-target attack next in the techniques list (another "art that'd go well" that I thought about). Might want to be careful in picking an art that doesn't overlap. Currently Ling Qi hits the first two techniques in the first turn, perhaps the phantoms or the drain in the second and the other in the third - then puts away the flute (the techniques will last for turns four through seven) and starts using knives. I'm thinking an art relating to knives (thrown or not) again. A metal art that 'grows' sharp tendrils on a knife once stabbed into someone, perhaps, or a shadow art that freezes someone in place by sticking a dagger in someone (or in their shadow ^_~). That last might be particularly good - since they'll be stuck in the qi-draining and phantom-attacking mist... slowly feeling their life seep out from a thousand cuts, caring less and less until the end is just a quiet descent...

Also, wouldn't it be lovely if the new FVM technique got improved later to give some of the drained qi to Ling Qi? ^_~

We probably want to go do some jobs so we can access the second floor soon and get a decent combat art.
I suspect there's first floor stuff that's viable at yellow/silver simply because of WHEN the archive slips were given out.

Anyone who could get one would be very unlikely to have much use for red/gold level stuff for long.

We'll want to get a second floor replace for Zephyr's Breath, but a first floor art or two could give us some more fairly easy mastery bonuses.

Plus we're probably going to open a bunch more meridians when we pop the Sable Light pill and start on EPC so we'll need a couple more arts anyway.

Yeah, using Starlight for only one or two arts would be a huge waste. +5 isn't much... +10 is okay.... +15 is almost like getting another cultivation action that turn.

We can prob wait on archive, since even after we master Argent Soul, we still have EPC and meridians to take up our cultivation slots. We can use that time to do 2 10 point missions and get access to lvl 2 to get a good hand art.

Yep.

I'm thinking we get a head slot art from floor one next turn and use Argent Elixer to finish off AS with that plus SCS, turn after that we start EPC and open a shitload of meridians - spine, heart, arm, leg in rough priority order, then after THAT we pop a starlight, pick up another art, and get some sect points to get ourselves a ZB upgrade.

Nope.

Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope Nope.

We've got a head slot to fill and we can do that as part of finishing AS next turn via Argent Elixer.

So, for those concerned about the Han Jian social link... I'm wondering if he and those who passed Zhou's second trial still kept their tokens. His group would probably be rather happy to be taught how to unlock the Star token (or Ling Qi doing it for them). For those who passed and not part of Han Jian's group (or are those Ling Qi wants to befriend)... I wonder if she might be able to buy them off them for some stones. Or sell the knowledge of how to open them for stones, either way.

In all honesty, I think he's growing more distant because he's concerned about his close allies, and a bit regretful at seeing Ling Qi being in another noble's camp; I don't think it'll break the Gu Xiulan social link as well, unless she was only befriending Ling Qi on Han Jian's behalf, to pull Ling Qi into his followers.

Actually, several posters have committed to [] For Fuck's Sake, Let's Just Get One Bloody Attack Art next turn.

So what I'm hearing you sayin, is that we have another consumable that acts like Meizhen's tea did. Which means we should have another drug week, a drug week where we drink all the elixirs, eat all the pills, and then chill out at either the vent or this new awesome location.

Speaking of Meizhen's tea, if this place is as good, or even better, than Argent Vent, then our choice to approach Meizhen first at the very beginning is certainly paying large, large dividends.

So, for those who do the mathing... if we made next turn an elixir turn, could we get AS to max for free? Starlight elixir + Bear Marrow Elixir + White Hart Elixir + Argent Elixir, taking a single action for physical cultivation:

cost: 20 stones
effect: 2 full physical cultivation rolls, with +10 dice each. 1/3rd of the successes on each are added to AS. 1/3rd of the successes of each are added to qi. Also get +3 dice to wind element cultivation and +5 dice to combat art cultivation.

Given that that's taking us a single action (plus 20 stones worth of drugs) it seems like the start of a decent cultivation turn, no?

No, Meizhen's tea let us DOUBLE UP on a cultivation roll, which effectively magnifed all other drugs used during that turn. It's so awesome I would be shocked if yrsillar ever gives something as good again.

[X] 1 Life Essence Salve
[X] Meizhen's thoughts on cultivation goals for the second realm

I'm glad we've got a dungeon crawl; we need a break from fretting over the Han Jian social link dying. Hopefully in a week or two we'll either have a better idea on how to handle that or be okay with letting it die.

Also, this confirms that archive passes can be taken, and that if we want to make it to the inner sect we'll need to break through to green. Because if Bai is on the verge of hitting green, I'm guessing Cai and the others won't be far behind.

We'll want to use our last Sable Light Pill for opening meridans. Getting 6 or so Qi expansion rolls for free is pretty amazing.

Man, I am getting all kinds of excited about our upcoming drug binge session.

Ahhh, I think I see what happened here.

Ji Rong broke through to Silver/Yellow two weeks ago, and it gave his confidence a big boost. He attended the meeting because Cai gave him the courtesy of informing him, out of consideration for his strength, and he wanted to get a feel for his primary rivals. The rest of his time he spent solidifying his foundation and scoping out his targets.

Then this week, he decided to start getting some vengeance for the people who'd been harassing him. After all, what's the worst that would happen? He gets fined and then 'confined' for a while? Who cares if he gets confined, he can just make sure to hit enough targets that he'll be able to pay the fine and still make a profit, and the confinement won't bother him because he just spends his time power levelling then, so he still wins, and that assumes they can take him in the first place--after all, he bagged someone with a realm and a half step above him when he was a mortal, compared to that, what's two half steps?

And then he gets fucking wrecked by a Formations Specialist, who's the natural enemy of the kind of facepunchy Shonen guy he likely is. And because "No, Lady Cai was being courteous when she gave you this notice. It seems that you don't have respect that a penalty is a penalty", so he had an example made of him publically to show off that 'Confinement' isn't 'You're confined to quarters and can still power level', it's "You can't do shit for a month, have fun catching up from that"

Mind you, Talent 7 is a hell of a drug, but Cai managed to show her authority, make an example of a disliked person, and did it all perfectly in the bounds of the rudimentary law that we put in, because he almost certainly brought it on himself (Given how Bai Meizhen wouldn't have commented on the other guy's lack of aggression if he was just pre-emptively made an example of).
