Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

"Pay at least a little attention to everything, you never know what will be important" would go a long way towards fixing that.
that is the path to madness. Also this will cultivate Ling Qi flitting around on many different subjects.

I prefer her being more of a detatched authority (at end game at least) and just being the one to give final say.

She doesnt have to care about all the minor things related to a fief, it will just be a waste. Better to have her focus on her friends and have THEM be the one to tell Ling Qi if she misses something. That half spirit fox gal would be perfect for it.

No need to be perfect in managing a fief. In Cultivation world, Cultivation is more important.

Fortunately, Ling Qi is in Early Green. We have time. Time to grow beyond her current self-admitted selfishness, and time to pick up an art or two (Wood, maybe?) that support that growth and integrate them into her domain. TRF and AC will help, but I still feel like more is needed. I'm thinking we should look for a broad-view Perception art to counteract the tunnel vision (and because spies need great situational awareness, so double bonus!) and maybe some kind of Wood buff song (I can't express exactly why, but it feels appropriate.)

The element you want is earth. Wood is spontaneity.

Anyway, I don't think we should actually change ling qi character to have her care about the mortal in her fief.

The best person for fief handling we have seen yet is CRX. CRX care about justice, and thus about mortals but that's completely secondary. She doesn't care about mortals for the sake of caring about mortals.

Compare this to Su Ling who actually care about mortals for the sake of it.

Despite this, Su Ling would be a worse lord than CRX, including for the mortals. The same way, we don't need to care about mortals to enhance their living condition. Simply caring about our fiefs because it's ours (darkness) is sufficient.

No need to be perfect in managing a fief. In Cultivation world, Cultivation is more important.
Managing a fief is really weird in a cultivation death world. The higher cultivation you have the better resources you can get from more dangerous places. This helps you get to a higher cultivation. However to get to that cultivation you need resources. To get the most amount of resources from your fief you need to manage it well. If you spend time managing a fief that is time not spent cultivating. Having a lower cultivation means that threats are better able to overwhelm you.
So it just kinds of loops. Having friends or a clan like you said does seem to be the best way to deal with this loop.

And now I'm reminded of why I hate this mechanic, and have since it was first introduced.

Oodles of planning based on single lines and speculation, some of which seemingly contradictory. In the end the only interpretation that actually matters is yrs's, but none of us can see into his head.

I think I'm just gonna drop this for now. It's just not worth the frustration and hours of theory crafting.

My hope is that Yrs just sort of automates it like our pill furnace and we make big descions like which resources path to pursue next. Then the rest is automated.

yeah, this is what I hope for as well.

Basically we decide the general direction we want, and have all the modifiers (people, resources, efficiency, leniency) and it just runs in the background with breaks regarding inportant events or choices.

One thing I am getting more and more exicted for is creating arts. I am filled with ideas of arts to make! Like one where we trap their minds and spirits in a dream and then our allies capture(or kill) the sleeping bodies and we devour the qi they leave behind in the dream. Like hanyi did with the mouse but with people in dreams!

I am just super exicted to start making our own arts.

it would be hillarious if everything totally blows up and she gets captured by the Barbarians and has to start rebuilding her power base over there

Hey, dont underestimate the captured protagonist cliché!

We might finally find Ling Qi's prince husbando in the harsh and brutal lands of the Barbars. We could then eventually rule the barbarians and lead a daring invasion towards the Empire's lands after they steal our child or something.

Naw. Earth, Lake, and Mountain are passivity in various forms. Heaven, Wind, and Thunder are spontaneity in various forms.
Wood symbolises growth, tenacity and resilence, it doesn't give a shit on the spontaneous scale.

Perception can be anything, but Ling Qi's relative lack of perception arts outside of Argent Mirror does ding her a fair bit.

With our current skill set fief management should be more about dealing with the people, headhunting our fief governing council, troubleshooting pesky local spirits, and issuing broad policy directives.

Ling Qi as she is now is very unlikely to become a CK2 game.

If we conquer barbarians, why not just become the next province of the empire ?

It worked for Sun.

I wonder what a Wood focused perception art would grow into.

Looking at combinations, Wood + Moon + Darkness = ? Whatever it is, it doesn't sound that nice. Quite Unseelie Fey in fact, hunting down prey under the moonlit boughs. Quite different to TRF, although TRF probably works better with a Home themed Domain.

Those who devote themselves to the well being of others find the qi of the earth flowing more easily.

Wood is an element of life and spontaneity, and overlaps with both Heaven and Wind in many ways

Here are the quotes. Earth is helping others and wood is spontaneity.

Wood perception art:
Ingraining Roots: oo
Cost 4 qi
Zhengui channels his qi through the roots of the plant life around him, allowing him to better sense his surroundings as well as drawing in further strength. While active, Zhengui's speed is reduced by half, but he gains a four die bonus to perception rolls, his armor increases by one and he gains a six die bonus on all defenses. In addition Zhengui may spend two qi to regenerate his armors durability by one as a free action while active. Lasts four turns.

Your senses expand into the natural world. Every leaf an eye.
Higher levels probably feel the flow of natural qi and find that which sticks out.

Growth + Change + Desire?
Classic Spring-theme thing on its own.

Though Wood has both the Yin aspect of poison and rot, and the Yang aspect of growth and adaptation.

So corrected, but its not really relevant to Ling Qi being flighty because that's literally her whole Darkness tunnel vision + the Wind/Water/Moon shifting

Wood is replaced thematic wise by wind and heaven, which are both spontaneous, and we have Elder Su saying it's about spontaneity:
The five traditional elements differ in holding Wood and Metal as primary elements. Wood is an element of life and spontaneity, and overlaps with both Heaven and Wind in many ways. Metal on the other hand maps well to Mountain, though it exemplifies calm rationality over steadfast determination. The subject is much deeper of course, but this will do for an introduction.

Not really Yrs' fault if you guys feel the need to speculate so much though. Honestly, I get that you lot like the story a lot and are enthusiastic about it but in the end it's still a story written by a single writer. He takes suggestions on which way it goes but it's his story and he exercises his own judgment on what should happen. That's why it's so good.

Also the purpose of the planning and stuff is not only to have a possible future plan, it is also just to have fun speculating and junk.

Water is all about wearing down whatever is in the way.

Water is determination, not flightiness.

Air, water and darkness mean that we make a snap decision about what is ours and then go trough with it. Like for exemple we decided that meizhen was going to be our friend and that we wouldn't take a no for answer. :V

I was thinking more we could go and save their king from a dastardly plot and thus become a barbarian princess and learn all sorts of cool barbarian tricks that synergize with our imperial skillset making us unstoppable and we build up a band of rough yet honorable and loyal cutthroats. Then we hear about trouble in the Emerald Sea Province so we give tearful goodbyes and go to meet with Shenhua to get a special dispensation. As we're the only ones the barbarians trust, we gain exclusive rule over the border provinces and our connections give us a monopoly on valuable trade goods from barbarian lands, earning tons of moolah. All the while our loyal cutthroats stand by us and protect us from imperial treachery and stamp out the evil corruption threatening the land. It will be glorious

First step is to do some capture baiting, what could go wrong?
