Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

Shoot, I just realized why Sun Liling called in Chu Song to delay us. She's going to try her flower trick again, and she doesn't want us disrupting the technique.

[X] She has outright said that she is here to stall you. Escape and join back up with as many of your friends as you can manage. Even if it means dealing with her two lackeys too.

Until someone convinces me otherwise, or a good write-in comes along. Screw letting our enemies dictate our location in a battle and thus gaining advantage, we dictate our own place and pace. (Plus fighting with our allies as opposed to fighting alone helps with SL's)

If we stay or fight we're doing what they want.

Awww, little Zhengui is so cute. No idea what to do about Chu Song though. We can probably run, but we'd be dragging her to a fight that we don't know the location of and with significantly less qi depending on how much we expend to get and stay away from her and friends. Of course escaping in the first place is assuming the two helpers aren't just there with a 'no running allowed' barrier formation.

Talent 6, RSS 5, YSS 25, Meizhen 5, Spine 4, EPC 5. 50 dice
10 1 8 2 1 3 7 10 4 10 1 10 4 7 9 9 4 4 5 7 5 9 10 8 5 8 2 7 4 5 1 6 7 9 7 10 1 3 9 6 4 9 3 2 9 9 9 8 8 4. 22 successes

Rerolling 5
8 3 4 2 8. 3 successes. 23 total.

22/80

Also, sorry for nitpicking again, but total successes add up to 25, so we're at 25/80 on SCS right now.

So, I've got somewhat of an idea:

Accept the duel, allow our self to be pushed towards the cliff, then jump off and fly away. Any thoughts?

We can replenish the qi we use in this fight if we use EPC, and we are tanky enough that we could survive a round or two of battering, if we decide to spend a decent chunk of qi.

EDIT: Actually, we could just let our self fall off the cliff, and just use our featherfall gown to take the fall, and then we could just stealth away.

Didn't stop her from doing it in the first place, plus who knows what else she has up her sleeve, or how she's developed.
Yeah, but to be fair, I'd very much guess that Sun Liling would do it again anyway. She's that arrogant, and does not seem the type to take scolding well from most people outside her clan.
I don't think she'd do it again - they're very likely to come down harsher on her for a repeat performance, seeing as how whatever warning/punishment they gave last time clearly wouldn't have done the trick. She's pretty arrogant and cocky, but she respects power, and only a complete idiot wouldn't recognise just how far above her the Elders are.

I doubt it. The last time she used it she got kicked out for a month. Using it again right after being kicked out for using it would probably end up getting her getting kicked out for like half a year, so even if she wins it will be a net loss for her. If she *is* going to use it later she will save it for a proper battle.
Also, it seems to be more of a anti-group technique that gets more energy depending on the amount of qi flying around, not a 1v1 technique so it wouldn't be very helpful here anyways.

Anyways, I think its more simple: She wants a 1v1 duel, and we would screw that up if we joined in.

[x] Duel her, even if she is above you in cultivation you have a shot. If you can take her out her lackeys shouldn't interfere and she won't be causing any other trouble today.

We must honor the return of the Queen with a proper blood offering.

Keep in mind that she specifically called in a favor with a third-realm cultivator to stop us from interfering. Even if she wasn't going to use her flowers, she wants out of this fight for a good reason. Who knows what that could be, but I'd rather not take the risk.

First off, 2-hour moratorium guys. Don't vote just yet! We have lots to discuss and the write in option is appealing.

Let's talk about the information that we do know.

Immediate situation:
Chu Song is in the third realm
Two of her lackeys are waiting for us on the path we normally use
20 meters distance between us (not a comfortable margin for a fight)
Chu Song wants to talk to us
Chu Song will fight us in a duel, but would rather not
Chu Song's qi feels like a storm and a mountain (I'm guessing heaven, mountain or earth)
Zhengui is dematerialized in our dantian (I don't know how long we can safely keep him there)

Sect Situation:
Sun Liling is trying to fight Lady Cai
Apparently, Meizhen is not involved in the fight (possibly lie, Meizhen might get involved in principal)
Sun Liling is riling up trouble in the sect(we have no idea what that means)
We don't have enough information

I don't want to fight, because if we lose we have to give her stuff and we might be knocked unconscious and Zhengui might be stuck in our dantian for longer than we would like. A such, I would be a proponent of either fleeing or talking.

A thought though, could it be possible to convince Chu Song to talk as we walk? If we can convince her that we won't interfere between Sun Liling's duel with Lady Cai, then there is no reason to stay here for the talk and we would like to make sure that Meizhen isn't involved in the fighting.

I don't think we can convince her to let us walk and talk, as she was specifically instructed to keep us at the vent. Odds are, we're being kept here because we could be a wrench in whatever Sun Liling's plans are for the sect. A very large wrench, if she bothered to send a third realm to keep us locked down.

Ling Qi had reached the top of the second realm. By the reactions of those around her, it was a prodigious achievement, given that she was a match for most of the outer disciples even a few years her senior. It seemed obvious to her that there must be something else which held back those who wished to take the next step. She wasn't doing anything unusual after all, and surely talent didn't make that much of a difference.
Something else like an older outer disciple like Chu Song suppressing them? I imagine she'll try to sell Ling Qi on how she can benefit from delaying her entry to the inner sect.
The next few days continued in the same vein. Ling Qi spent the evenings and nights cultivating toward a breakthrough in Eight Phase Ceremony, and the days steadily clearing the ever more difficult meridians that would allow her to channel greater and more diverse flows of qi without interfering in her other techniques. Her only interruption, other than daily sessions training together with Meizhen, were her efforts to care for Zhengui, hunting for cores or simply playing with the growing and impatient little tortoise.
Hm. So this is occuring while Ling Qi cultivates EPC... I wonder if our decision influences which face of the Moon she aligns with in addition to the current bonuses?

two hour moratorium for discussion

@Killer_Whale @Bob

So, an opponent actively sent to attack us specifically, with higher cultivation who probably knows our tricks. Liling want us gone, likely because the flowers and stuff get countered pretty hard if we go for it. She's also pulling in more senior outer years into the conflict.

Trackless Escape is quite good, and crescent's grace helps a good deal in running away while avoiding the path.

I'd suggest we take a roundabout route back to Cai, going the opposite direction from her thugs while escaping with trackless escape. We can fly over the cliff as well, and, as long as we can break line of sight for a little while, we're probably good to escape, even if she's faster than us.

Liling, whose staging the ambush, decided it was worth tying up multiple greens to stop us from getting to the fight, that means we're probably better off not presuming that if we go along with Liling's plan (which we know next to nothing about) everything will work out. Talking is avoiding the broader confrontation, but that probably hurts the broader confrontation.

There are a few possibilities.

1. Song isn't willing to fight Cai directly, but will help out on the sides, hedging her bets and minimizing her involvement.
-This likely remains true even if we run. In this case, we can run and get into the fight with Cai without dragging Song into it (if we escape)
2. Song's help is broader, and she'd be willing to help in the fight proper. In this case, Liling decided it was worthwhile to commit her entire faction to stopping just us from getting to the confrontation.
-This implies that Liling, whose plans we don't fully understand yet, has reason to devote serious resources to keeping us away. It's best not tor run.

In either case, running helps, talking plays into Liling's hand. It's silly to assume that playing completely along with someone's plans is a good way to foil said plans.

No, she specifically promised Liling to keep us out of the ruckus that she is causing in the sect. Where we are has no bearing on the promise or the favor. As long as we don't get involved then Chu Song will have kept to her bargain and she will be able to talk to us. As it stands, we don't want to fight here, it is far too disadvantageous for us, and fleeing would involve the two other lackeys. I don't want people to know that there is an Argent Vent here, although that goal might already be derailed by Chu Song, talking with her seems like the best bet. Talking here though is to our disadvantage as we won't be able to stop Meizhen from getting involved or our house from being ransacked.

As it stands, Chu Song has no gripe about where the talk occurs, only that we don't get involved in the ruckus. Asking won't hurt.

The two of them parted ways amicably enough, though she found Fu Xiang's wide smile of satisfaction to be a trifle disturbing, given the way the moonlight caught on his glasses, concealing his eyes behind the gleam.
Awww snap have we found a moon brother in arms.
Probably not but it'd be interesting.
"So, I guess I'll be practicing defense while you work on your offense?"

"That would be our normal dynamic," the other girl replied, releasing the stunted hilt of the sword as it rose into the air above her shoulder with a slight wobble.
Ow Meizhen, please.

So, Chu. I'm thinking [] She wants to talk, then she can talk. You'll listen and plan.
Even if she promised that the fight would be between us two its not like we're going to get to leave scott free if we DO win. We'll be low on energy and her friends will still try and block us.
It's unlikely that we'll get to contribute to the fight regardless.

Then again there is a chance Bai Meizhen could involve herself in this, even if Sun Liling doesn't go for it.
So im thinking we talk for now and figure out a way to slip out of here when they let their guard weaken. Chu has stated her reason for doing this is Ji Rong, we could use some insight into that. Perhaps we could convince her she's wrong.

Anyway gonna thin about it some more.

I'm leaning more towards the talk and plan option. At this point, dueling her would be a bad choice due to her strength and the fact that we know next to nothing about her and her abilities. Escaping is likewise difficult. Chu Song is confident she can stop us from leaving, and she has 2 other lackeys that are likely to be involved. She knows about our capabilities (at least to a certain extent), enough to know that we're fast and slippery.

We know next to nothing on the situation, so having Chu Song talk while planning a way out seems to be a good way to learn some more regarding the situation and leave.

Something to also keep in mind, if we escape from these guys without defeating or neutralizing them, they'll likely go and join the fight down below.

So the new trial we have access to can be done alone. This is excellent news. I would rather run it solo and not have to worry about giving the grand reward over to whatever friend we would bring.

Oh look not investigating what was going on with Ji Rong came to bite us in the ass. Who could have predicted such a thing.

I'm really not sure what I want to do here. On the one hand I don't give a toss about supporting Cai and actually think someone checking her rampant power building would be a good thing. The problem comes with that person being Sun Liling. On the other hand this woman is Ji Rong's friend and is doing Sun Liling's bidding, so fuck her on general principals.

Then again I can see some of Cai's lackeys causing a confrontation and being told to piss of on general principals, especially since we know she's not above blackmail and that attitude probably passed down to her subordinates. Plus Satsuki expy.

I'm inclined to the wait and talk option, especially given that we're unlikely to be in great shape to do much if even if we suceed in escaping from these guys. Duel is tempting for the potential growth, but cements the view of us as slightly too loyal to Cai for my liking. I think I'd prefer wait and talk, listen to what she wants with a view to seeing an opportunity to escape.

I wouldn't forget though that she ambushed us at our cultivation site, when she could just have easily stayed back and let us continue and we'd never have known anything was happening until it was too late. And whilst she can't use the site as a second year she might try and push it to Ji Rong (in which case they can both fuck off).

Also I am so fucking tired of hearing about Ji Rong and how his social penalties did fuck all. [EDIT: To be fair if we were playing prisoner quest I'd almost certainly be saying the same thing about Ling Qi's social penalties doing nothing.]

Or, you know, bring Meizhen, who would almost certainly allow us to acquire the grand prize due to the fact we did so with her own trial.

More information we know from context!

She can find us pretty much wherever we are. She was able to locate us at the Argent Vent, something that we have been doing fairly well to keep hidden from other disciples. That means that either she has a long ranged sensory ability, or that she has a good close range one and knew that we were in the forest somewhere.

Furthermore, she came prepared to stop us from running. She bought at least a stealth talisman and is most likely confident in her ability to stop us from running, either through arts or other talismans.

She came prepared and ready for pretty much any outcome of talk/run/fight. So I'm uncomfortable about choosing any of those right off the bat. I think doing a write in that has a combination of those three or a new angle that is unexpected would yield the best results.
