Brockton's Celestial Forge (Worm/Jumpchain)

I love the casual reveal that the healing also included tinker level tailoring to keep his outfit fitted and functional with Uppercrust's healthy new physique.

Also, what godly use could there be for all of that water? ...transmutation fuel?

Fueling an ungodly large and rather inefficient fleet of hydrogen-powered vehicles?

Re-enacting Waterworld?

Pumping it out of a firehouse in an attempt to clean the con-funk off the population of a brony convention?

Diluting a star?

Not only that, it was also outfitted to show off Uppercrust's new Olympics-tier physique.
XKCD did a short section on that. At the sun's scale, the water would just be treated as an influx of fresh hydrogen and oxygen, providing more fuel to the sun and adding to its longevity to a certain extent. Then, if you keep adding more water it would move the sun into higher categories of stars which means less lifespan, and if you keep on doing that you end up with a black hole.

The hose system can deliver it anywhere, so he can pull this trick on a much larger scale:
"Here we go," she laughed. Straightening up, she braced herself. There was a hiss from the nozzles, which almost instantly turned into an ear-splitting high-pitched roar as water under enormous pressure came out of the two nozzles. The recoil instantly pushed the surfboard-like device into the air with enough acceleration that she was three hundred feet up in the time it took Amy to blink, shielding her eyes from the splatter of water and debris blown from the surface of the yard.

"Found it. Secret Lore. Thurin and Ist."

"A rather fitting name." Uppercrust said, and felt the book shift slightly in his hands.

"A touch overt." Yellowjack commented. "And more juvenile than I would have expected from Apeiron."

At Yellowjack's words the pages began flipping of their own accord, settling on a recreation of Yellowjack's own file. Specifically, an evaluation citing him as obstinate, dismissive of others, and difficult to work with. Those specific sections were brightly highlighted.

QUESTION:
Does everything Apeiron builds automatically has Heretical Adaptation?

If Thurin-Ist does have the Heretical Adaptation trait, I'm curious to see how such a multifunctional device will evolve in response to Uppercrust's usage, intent, and crafting/tinkering power.

It only took Aisha's device Ren 1-2 weeks (???) to manifest refined control of memory-related effects.

The answer is yes and probably as a dating site so Uppercrust can finally get together with a lady at last.

Accord has no idea why he is suddenly intensely jealous of Uppercrust.

Seems like Uppercrust's inner circle is thrilled to start the house cleaning.

They thought the gold was a one-time payment. It was more pocket change or tipping the door greater on the entrance fee. For basic mundane materials, Aperion says that he can provide nearly anything in any quantity.

Can't wait for something to happen where Uppercrust is forced to use those resources to repair/upgrade something.

I'll laugh if Uppercrust thinks about recruiting Joe's civilian ID after attending Garment's show. I've enjoyed these last two chapters. Great character interaction and POVs.

It seems to flow better with POVs of others interacting with Aperion/Joe.

Apeiron had a grace and easy manner, at least when he wasn't facing off against his enemies. There was a disarming element to it, making it possible to forget who you were dealing with.
That is the third time someone called Joe's manners "disarming". Considering that other two were from Amy at the start of the story and Taylor later on, being disarming might just be Joe's natural personality trait that persisted in face of all his mental alternations.

Quite interesting trait for a powerful being to have. Like Morgan Freeman's interpretation of God, only with more chaotic reputation. Yeah, like calmer Robin William's Genie.

Okay, now I need Apiron singing "A friend like me!" to all his contracts.

I mean, to be fair when the nascent god goes and apologizes that your divine object didn't come with its own array of servants and butlers to serve your every whim, you could only end up dumbfounded as he goes and creates one robot butler to fix that issue for you along with all of your other issues before you could even think of them.

Of course, nowadays with his Better Non-Doormat Personality TM, Apeiron more comes across these days as utterly incapable of understanding the limits of what mere mortals think is possible as opposed to, you know, constantly degrading himself and his divine creations for not being that extra bit of more perfect than they already are.

There's a reason why Uppercrust immediately thought of genies and fairies in this chapter because oh boy, Apeiron is just overwhelming.

It helped that we didn't have a first-person view of Joe's dissection of his latest perk, only to segue to another perk dissection a couple of paragraphs later.

Oh, there are a lot of uses. As you pointed out, Transmutation feed stock is one of them. But he also got the ability to duct other liquids that he has a source of around the place freely as well. Now, admittedly, Joe has a lock on unlimited materials pretty well established for his own personal works. But that's almost entirely for his own works. And while he doesn't have massive supplies of things like molten gold, he can set up arrays that would allow him to transmute water into any other liquid including molten metals and other elements. That means feed stock that can be used in other industrial processes without his personal involvement or the involvement of other members of the forge.

Admittedly, they aren't the kind of organization that would really need that kind of supply unless Joe decided he wanted his own Macross but it's a thing he can do now.

A mobile workstation imbued with secret of steel, a gamer inventory, simmy protection, instant analysis and bluepringing of tinkertech and power boosting? Damn, not bad for something made in seconds.

I mean, that much water is a weapon in and of itself. It could be used to wash away a crowd, flood a secret base, or just used to summon an ocean on someone.

Alchemy. Bastard Son is working on alchemy. Interesting.
Eh, it's still at a scale and speed that by the time Bastard Son cracks the higher levels, either Apeiron began the uplift or Bastard Son ends up destroying himself with human transmutation like Victor.
terraformation? That's over a third of all the oceans on Earth each day.
Like I said, go and drop it over Mars Aleph. If their timeline sticks to the same as ours, Opportunity will be happy to find water at last, I'm sure.

Another nice chapter. I admit though, most of my favorite parts of this fic are from the alternate povs. And most of that is, to be fair, the different and exterior perspectives...but not all of it.

I admit, I am perfectly fine with reading huge and detailed chunks about technology, magic, and perk interaction. And it IS one of the founding motivations for the story. But it is a little bit frustrating when they get plopped right in the middle of interesting dialogue and completely mess with the flow. Not that there aren't some good mixed uses of blending Apeiron going on a mental tangent with dialogue and story, or even times when the situation is urgent enough that it gets shoved off for later...but often enough it just rudely barges in like the perks they come from. And while I know it's no problem for Joe at this point with his super divine brain (well, unless he gets Titan heritage and grows a couple feet in front of his conversation partner)...I'm not Joe. Multiple paragraphs of decently complicated content really throw me off my game when it comes to dialogue.

And alternate povs? While they have a bit of a tendency to ramble(not in a negative way) that I think is just characteristic of Lord's style at this point...they don't interrupt themselves with sudden perks or thoughts about technology. Unless their Armsmaster, but there it's in character because he's obsessive.

"We shouldn't expect any immediate action from Bastard Son. He'd been focused on some internal project. Collecting capes and specialists with a focus on chemistry or material science. No information on the nature of what he's developing as yet." Yellowjack continued.
Now, this was hardly the most important part of the interlude, but it stood out to me. My bet is one of two possibilities. First, Bastard Son is part of, or connected too, the Thinker think tank that has been investigating the concept of Alchemy, much like Victor is.

Second, Bastard Son got his hands on a significant portion of the Dust recovered from the elemental 'scars' of Apeiron's suit detonation. From there, the materials potential is self-evident, but it may more concerningly be of such high quality that it can generate/propagate more of itself from mundane materials, much like the Divine (and now all recovered) Dust that created the new crystals to begin with. This would justify BS not just rushing it to his Tinkers or putting it up for auction as an ultimately finite material...but bringing together a large team and investment for a potentially continuous money maker.

Of the two, the former is probably the more likely option. We've just had hints more recently, and more solidly confirmed of it being a future plot-line in the form of Victor's interlude, compared to a throw-away line about people collecting the crystals to sell and Blasto musing about mining that happened ages ago IRL.

But personally, I'm hoping for the latter. Especially if it's a case of the generated Dust self-propagating. Because then it's a thing in the universe that can change and grow beyond Apeiron's direct control, and will continue to do so beyond his sight. But also isn't the sort of thing to potentially flip the board and end in a lot of drama and angst, like people experimenting with Alchemy with no idea of it's taboos because Apeiron thinks he has that information locked down.

Edit: Annnd Ninja'd. Though I see Dust has been pretty forgotten about. I guess most of it is still inaccessible, and Blasto is too busy cape-wrangling and now Butcher fighting to mine it up and put on the black market.

OHHHH MYYY GODDD

AND THE FACT THAT UPPER IS CLEANING VOUSE MEANS THAT he'll eventually come into conflict with BSon's branch... and with a direct line to Apey. Yet another vector to spark off that eventual confrontation.

Also, I think that unnatural skill Alchemy has been rolled, right? And its been established that a more skilled alchemist can do more with a less detailed circle than an amateur, and that clapping alchemy is in part forming a circle with your body... I have this mental image of Apey flexing his absolute domination over this sharable ability once he rolls the Truth by just forming a circle with his index finger and thumb, looking through it and decimating whatever alchemical attempts Bet's thinkers have managed to cobble together.

I think turning a city into a small red stone will be Bastards sons end goal, not raising the dead.

That interesting part! When you talking with calm Apeiron it doesn't have a feeling of conversing with god, it feels like talking with chill lad. Even at the start of the story Amy couldn't help but forget that she technically talks with someone she considers a villain.

That kind of casualness is rare in powerful beings. A lot of the time they inhuman, incomprehensible for humans and without a care for human blights, like Classical Fay. You can't have a casual conversation over pizza with Fay. But you can with Joe.

Oh, it looks like it will soon be hurricane season after the veritable butterfly garden Joe unleashed. I am so excited.

So, quick recap, of original conflicts.
1. Game grid
2. Victor von Frankenstein
3. Bastard Son's thing
4. Scion and the Minovsky particles
And whatever I can't remember. Little help?

So, question from someone who doesn't know a lot about Tolkein 'Deep Lore'(TM), what does Thurin-Is stand for? Or does it not have a meaning and this is just something that the author extrapolated for the story?
