Blood, Sweat, and Tears (WH40k Design Bureau)

@DaLintyGuy Since we are definitely going to repair the Octan platform, can we use the better armor type we will get from it in the ship designs for this turn?
Not this turn, no.
@DaLintyGuy are the weapon and defense slots for the small shipyard included in the total cost of 160 or do we have to pay for them separately?
Separately.
I assume this is supposed to be .5M, .5A? Not too bad, in any case.
No. It's meant to be 5M because of the appalling roll meaning you pay both the A of the intermediary step and the M of the final product.
Wow. This is brutally expensive for what it gets us. 6 turns to turn a profit? Yikes. I'm not sure this is worth spending on without further research
Building entirely new industrial equipment, hull and all, is expensive. Your current platform was just being rearranged and added to and was larger than these smaller shipyard stations.
They also provide shipyard services in a pinch, so there is that.

My apologies if I missed anything critical, I don't have the time to hit everything for the rest of today.

Ugh, ugh, ugh. In that case, it's dramatically worse than what we had before. Can we still pay the old cost, or are we just screwed?

Okay, so. The shipyards are completely and utterly worthless for economic growth; things are moving way too fast for an investment that takes six turns to pay off to be worth considering. (If they cost 160 and gave us 50M/turn they'd be good, but 30M is just a garbage-tier return on investment.) The only thing they're actually worth using for is improving our logistics by giving us repair and refueling facilities farther from home. As such, there's no sense building one in Bailiafax. Uniary and Homna are worth considering, though, since that would get us a decent forward base.

@DaLintyGuy I recall something about shipyards having limits on how many ships they can build at the same time. Can we just build anything at the Calavar platform no matter how many or do we need the smaller shipyards to build more than a few ships at the same time?

We have small shipyards so we don't have all of the eggs in the same basket and can forward deploy some work, possibly including repair work.

Our primary shipyard has a build limit of 70 hull M per turn. So, this turn if we build the light cruiser, a bulk hauler, and a frigate, that would be 39 out of 70 build limit used, as far as I understand.
There apparently isn't a limit to how many ships we can build at once, although we can't invest more than 70 M into a ship each turn at our primary shipyard
Ah, I guess I remembered wrong.

So, everyone else. Should we start working on the shipyard or should I replace it with another ship instead?

Say a torpedo frigate? Or we can start working on replacing our aging corvettes
Here are what I think you should change
- Don't build the Shipyard. We can make it after we deal with the imminent threat of Waagh Legcutta.
- Do not build surface batteries on Bailafax, because Bailafax already has 2 airstrips and a missile battery on the surface. Additionally, those ground batteries can't protect the Octan platform anywhere near as effectively as the defense platforms can.
- Swaps Bulk hauler engines to normal merchant engines, because the normal engines are fuel-efficient and not fragile, and it's not like a bulk hauler would be able to outrun raiders anyway.
- Assign the Long Arm frigate to first squadron. We need to attack the orks, and 1st squadron only has 2 old corvettes in it to back up the more fragile carriers.
- build a Macrocannon Frigate, it would be 54 M. Assign it to 1st squadron as well. Given that we can expect to be facing up to 2 light cruisers, we need the firepower, and since Ork armor is terrible, a Macrocannon Frigate will be more deadly than a 2nd Long Arm frigate would be.
-Invest the remaining 28 M in Yttreum, to help mollify them since we did just make it so that Gehault could fight them effectively using the underway replenishment module. If we invest the extra in Gehault, that could make Yttreum try to take down Gehault out of fear.

What I'm thinking is that in the strategy phase, we have 1st squadron, 2nd squadron, and both torpedo squadrons attack Waagh Legcutta as a preemptive strike. The Torpedo corvettes we currently have should be able to counter the Ork light cruisers thanks to our new torpedoes.

edit: minor edits for clarity
Edit 2: Fixed my misconception on how Build limit works

Okay, here's a different plan. Removes shipyard funding, removes 10 M from the light cruiser, removes 2 ground defenses. And builds 2 Warrior-As and a Long arm to bolster our fleet. Someone check my math please.

Edit: Also, should I have the Warriors have 2 Macrocannons or the current Lance/Macro mix?

The Warriors should be 45 M and 1 A if they are a lance/Macro design. However, I recommend 2 Macrocannons on them, since Macrocannons have better DPS against poorly-armored targets, and most ork ships are poorly armored.

Aside from the slight mistake on the Warriors, the math looks right

Changed to macrocannons. Next turn we are going to want to build a defense station at Calavar. We've neglected the place for too long. Especially with Bagalog being a potential threat that could strike.

We went for the small shipyards elsewhere because DaLintyGuy straight-up told us that we were hitting the limit of what we could do by upgrading our existing shipyard, and that building more in Calavar would cause logistical issues.

Agreed. Next turn we should finish the light cruiser, build a defense station or two for Calavar, and build more frigates or corvettes.

Also, minor note, we can spend 8 A on the Light cruiser instead of the 6 A the plan currently spends, since we aren't using lances on the corvettes

If you want cheap manufacturing, it's better to steal it than make it. Such as making a run against Incleon, or Legcuttas core worlds, or try and yank more out of Octan. Or just go scouting for more Stuff in the Core Worlds I suppose, though that has it's own risks.

Right, so, there are two immediate matters requiring our attention: Waaagh! Legcutta and the fragile peace between Gehault and Yttreum. Kalvan might be a bother but we honestly don't gain much beyond safety is we strike at them right now.

This is what our navy looks like right now.

And I see that you want to reinforce the 3rd squadron by putting alot of the new stuff there. My problem is that this spreads out our weakness too much. So what do I propose?

Assign all the new Warriors to the 1st Squadron and the new Indomitable to the 2nd Squadron. Move the Warrior in the 2nd Fleet to the First THEN reassign all the resolutes in those squadrons to 3rd. Make it look like this:

Why? Because then we can trust different Squadrons for different tasks.

In this proposal, 1st Squadron would be a Chaser. Or Hunter-Killer if you rather.

2nd Squadron a Beat stick. Or, dare I say it?, our (war)Hammer. :p

And 3rd Squadron a temporary bloated fleet that we can send to Gehault or Yttreum so that they can keep the peace with bluster and force of numbers. Basically, for now, I want to gather all our aging Resolutes and put them in a place where we don't have to worry about them being blown up.

If you want cheap manufacturing, it's better to steal it than make it. Such as making a run against Incleon, or Legcuttas core worlds, or try and yank more out of Octan. Or just go scouting for more Stuff in the Core Worlds I suppose, though that has it's own risks.

Hey DaLintyGuy, I am not sure if you have answered this before, but is it possible to transplant the crew of an old Escort into a new one? Like from a Resolutte to a Warrior?

Actually, I think we might want to bulk up the 4th and assign them to peacekeeping duties, or maybe transfer the Sacred Legacy over to the third for the turn. The risk of losing the Sacred Legacy on that mission should be minimal, and it's definitely impressive, which is half the point anyway. We could then move a couple of Resolutes into the patrol squadrons instead of the 3rd, which we badly need.

@aceraptor, about the light cruiser, it looks like your plan is spending the minimum amount that would let us finish it next turn. However, we're going to get a new armor module, which we'll want to use in place of the scaffold armor, so a buffer of 6 or 9M would be a good idea. (Also, I don't like the name Trailblazer. That's a name for a scout ship, which this definitely isn't.)

I'd say... move the Resolute from the 1st squadron to the 3rd and the Sacred Legacy from 4th to 3rd. Put the 2 Warriors into the 4th. Put the Long Arm to the 1st.

IIRC Lexicalum still has 2 carriers assigned to be the Sacred Legacy's bodyguards. So the 3rd squadron should be able to be a credible peace keeper.

The 4th Squadron's Heralds are better suited in combat anyways. The Warrior-As can blast apart enemies that come close after the Heralds have poked holes into them with their Lances.

As for the name, how about Courageous class light cruiser?

The Herald-La's are basically our most hardcore Corvettes though. If anything, I think moving the Sacred Legacy over to the third with all the Resolutes would be for the best because, well:

The update said:
Worse, the peace to our East is still shaky. Doubly so with our acceptance of the Gehault offer as Yttreum knows that they can't pull off the same trick and will have to get the first strike in. Some level of heavy force in the region is going to be needed, above and beyond the allocation of heavy metal to fighting the Orks.
A single Courante can basically take over BOTH Modernized Carriers in the 4th Squadron and, next turn, if we do that we can switch them both into the Patrol Squadrons to reinforce them. Depending on how the whole "fragile peace" thing goes, we can then move most of the Resolutes from the 3rd to the Patrol Squadrons as well.

Not bad but I feel that leaves the 1st Squadron understrength. With the 4th Squadron just having the two Herald-Las can assign them to support the 2nd Squadron to make it even more Beat Stick-ier or to the 1st to give it sting.

A Courante? Are you thinking we should build one of those instead of one of the Warriors? It's a little more expensive, but - thanks to the older sensors and lack of repair deck - not by a whole lot. We could probably make that happen.

Actually...I was thinking about moving the Courante in the 1st Squadron to the 4th and then moving those two relics to the patrol Squadron. If we accept the whole "Hunter Killer" Paragrim for the 1st Squadron, then we can assign squadrons with more fighter coverage to help them out as needed.

Modified the plan. Please check it over. The Long Arm and a Warrior-A is being assigned to 1st Squadron. The 2nd Warrior-A is being assigned to the 4th.

By my plan the 3rd Squadron will have the Sacred Legacy, 3 Resolutes, and the 2 modernized escort carriers. Plus the Lexicalum ships acting as bodyguard for the Sacred Legacy. Which should hopefully be enough to keep a lid on things between the 'loyalists'.

Edit: Also, we really need to bulk up our army honestly. We need more army units suited for garrison duties.

Wouldn't that leave it with either no fighter coverage, or a slow escort carrier, though? The Courante is currently our only fast carrier asset.

I honestly figured those were issues we weren't going to have worry about within THIS turn since we are probably going to deploy the 1st and 2nd together. And the 2nd has the Angry Turtle, so....

Next turn we are going to get our Light Carrier and I will bet nuts to nickels that it's going to the 2nd Squadron. That will allow us to build another Courante for the 1st as well as perhaps another Warrior.

I still think we should move the existant Warrior in the 2nd Squadron to the 1st.
