You said it yourself, the Fire Whales are mostly non-combatants. Sure, some will fight, but most won't. The Gigantean Plant-Imbued Darkenbeasts would be large and powerful enough to smash whaling vessels, while also having enough carrying capacity to serve as mobile weapon platforms for a dozen or more support staff.
OK 1 Darkenbeast and a few casters then, the Whales prefer not to fight, but they will fight back when attacked, so the Whaler's specialize in dealing with the kind of attack a Whale can do, so to be maximum effective against Whalers, any team also need someone fighting in a totally different way from the Whales.

Here you go.

We got four more Mind Blank items which we forgot to specify, so you have free reign on if they're Earrings or Rings. We need three more to finish equipping the party. That said, every Companion (and Bloom) should have +1 Mithral Soulfire Bracers at this point.

Tyene, Waymar, and Vee have all been prepared to receive Mind Blank rings, with enough of their others rings made slotless as necessary.

A lot of our people already have bracers of some sort that I wouldn't want to just scrap, so they've been on the schedule this month being made slotless. I normally wouldn't want to stack items in the wrist slot, @DragonParadox, but in this case, for the sake of my sanity, could this latest order of Soulfire Bracers instead be Soulfire Bracelets, something small and low profile enough to be reasonably affixed over a more substantial bracer? Where necessary, the previous bracers will have been made slotless.

Enough time has passed this month that the bracers could have all been made slotless by now, too.

Having non-impressive mounts is fine, dude. The hippogriffs are for subordinates and supporters. The Griffin Knights are meant to be the real killers. We can also use Hippogriffs for couriers, but I'm not really on board with the idea to wholesale replace them in the knightly order with Darkenbeasts.

@Goldfish, part of the use of Griffs of both varieties is propaganda purposes. Darkenbeasts are intimidating and, as much as I like them, ugly looking.

A knight wouldn't want to ride them. A soldier wouldn't care, might even pride in it.

Sure, that works.

You're not wrong, but you're making some assumptions without having all of the facts.

The creatures I'm talking about creating will be able to fly faster than the whaling ships can hope to manage and large enough (complete with a nifty Trample ability) which will allow them to smash the ships to pieces. So yes, the whaling ships and crew will be ready for big game, but they won't be prepared for what they find.

Closing at work so I got to make this quick.

First off, the dead-god snakes are awesome and we should totally feed the fuckers to make more, and secondly looky at what I found!

Darkenbeast pictures!

Well picture really, but it's an awesome one!

You should be ashamed of yourself for calling these majestic beasts ugly, @Crake. Knights should be fighting tooth and nail to earn the right to use one of these monstrosities as a flying mount! :drevil:

Well they wont be sufficiently prepared, the Darkenbeast have a very good chance of winning, but it will be the kind of thing they expect to fight, just much stronger than they expected, but their preparations will still be for the right kind of battle.

But you are right that they would work well, for the pods that want to hire protection as opposed to fighting themselves, but we should also decide on a caster type, for those pods that have Whales who want to fight, as while they will be spending some of their money on gear, they will probably also be glad to be able to hire backup, and in the pods where the Whales are fighting, Darkenbeasts aren't ideal backup.

The pods will be hiring a lot of mercenaries, or buying a lot of gear, aside from protection they don't have much to spend their money on, and each pod has over 10k a month to spend, so for the pods that decide to hire Fungus Forge made mercenaries, well even if we add a fee, they can pay for the growth of a CR10 being each month.

I hope we can work out how to fireproof them quickly, this will be some serious profits, especially since we will be getting paid twice, as strengthening the Whales like this, will also count towards our contract with the Shaitan.

Advanced Druid Creature Lotus Leshys would be my preference. They would be able to prepare and cast Druid spells of up to 3rd level and there are some good ones which would synergize well with the Darkenbeasts.

So I found a birth control item from the other end of the equation, Bachelor's Snuff. 1gp price, has a male become sterile for 1 to 3 days, only sign of extensive use is a small but noticeable discoloration of the teeth and nails.

Not quite the same as our other birth control product, but I can see it making a profit.

Are these the Fire Whale stats we're using for Baella and her fellows?

If so, the main thing they need are Intelligence boosters and something to increase their flight speed. They're actually pretty damned powerful, just slow and stupid.

@Duesal As the resident Magpie, you're the closest I can think of to someone who can determine fair payment, and as far as I know, you also like the rest of us adore the Fire Whales, can I get you to weight in on what amount of fees, are fair to charge the Fire Whales for doing the harvesting, acting as the middleman when they want to buy things or hire mercenaries?

Especially when the mercenaries are from the Fungus Forge, should we give them the mercenaries for 5 years for the growth price no additional fee? Or should we charge them a small markup? Or perhaps do it in a third way?
Not yet. I'll come up with a standardized set of gear based off enhancing Fire Whales stats later this evening.
Sounds great, though I will have to wait with seeing it until tomorrow, it's nearing midnight here in Denmark, and I have to get up tomorrow.

That's Baella's template, the Normal Fire Whales are the ones who are subsentient in canon D&D, DragonParadox increased their Int to 6, and gave them the gems of the greater Fire Whales, but the average Whale is CR8, the CR16 ones are rare champions of their kind arising maybe once a generation.

You mean these? Fire Whale

They're the only other Fire Whales I can find. Did DP give them the ability to fly, too, or are they limited to the Boiling Sea?

25-30% of all gems harvested seems fair for a permanent protection deal.

Which is why we should be keeping how to do it secret, that will buy us some time at least, time we can use to arm the whales, as long as the harvesters don't tattle, all others who want to perform harvesting have to research themselves, and that will take a lot of time unless you have willing subjects.

Then you have the answer to your previous question, centralise the process to protect it's secrecy.

If we want to do a permanent protection deal that would be fair, I was thinking more mercenary hiring on a case by case basic, the Whales aren't united, so different pods will want different deals.

So I was thinking more in the line of hiring our mercenaries out for flat rates, say 10k for hiring a CR10 Plant creature for 5 years paid up front?

Then there's of course the harvesting fee, but that's separate from them hiring mercenaries.

Then there's the Whales who want to buy gear and fight, we certainly can't charge them for protection, but we can charge them a small markup for getting them the gear.

Also 25-30% seems a little much for protection, that's about 40k a year per pod, we would have to provide some serious amount of protection for that to be fair, and I'm not sure they need quite that much protection.
Then you have the answer to your previous question, centralise the process to protect it's secrecy.
You're probably right, but we can't centralize it fully, it will need multiple harvesting centers, as the Whale's territory is big enough, that they can't all get to the same place monthly.
