[X] Plan Emerald Sea
The Argent art write-in is far to gamey for my taste. Also, I'm always happy for more Su Ling. If she and the Ma sisters hit it off, that'll be multiplying returns for their strength that'll help us out in the end too.
The rest of their weeks training and explorations were less exciting, though Ling Qi found herself very rapidly mastering the portion of Argent Storm that Han Jian had shared with her, easily mastering the opening exercises and advancing to the next stage of mastery. With three Argent arts active, Ling Qi felt slightly strange, like she was on the verge of something.
Why is the argent art write in gamey? Ling Qi explicitly noted last week that "With three Argent arts active, Ling Qi felt slightly strange, like she was on the verge of something." Why wouldn't she look for the fourth argent art after that? And while she hasn't explicitly said in character that she knows there is a fourth argent art that's heaven/earth, she easily smart enough to see the obvious pattern.[X] Plan Emerald Sea

Would you really say no to more of this adorableness?"I left you be when you came to the medicine hall with frostbite and a look like someone had pissed in your rice," Su Ling retorted, crossing her arms.
Now it was her turn to frown, she hadn't even noticed Su Ling was there at the time when she went in to get treated. "Yeah, well maybe I'd have liked you too," she shot back, feeling defensive.
Su Ling looked away, uncomfortable. "...You have other people for that."
Ling Qi frowned. She… didn't really. She loved Meizhen as a friend, but she had no desire to bare any part of her past to the highborn girl. The thought of doing so made her deeply uncomfortable, and the thought of burdening Xiulan or Suyin with her complaints didn't exactly fill her with joy either.
"...It's nothing important," she looked back up, to find Su Ling looking at her, with a sort of unhappy realization on her face. "It's just ah… what's the word," she frowned, drumming her fingers on her knee. "It's just nostalgia."
Alright, I'm going to guess at how much qi people have:
~85: Meizhen
~80: Sun Liling
~70: Cai
~55: Kang
~45: Han Jian
~40: Han Fang, Xiulan, Ji Rong, Xuan Shi, Gan Guangli
~30-35: Fan Yu, Su Ling, Suyin
@yrsillar, how close am I? Am I underselling people? We don't know our enemies but we should know our friends' strength by now...
@yrsillar
What action do we take to work towards the anti-scrying formations Linq Qi has thought about?
And the average third realm is Chu Song, not Meizhen.
Actually, one thing that is annoying here is that Ling Qi should have a better idea of Xiulan's capabilities than we do. Things like: her range, what her aoe is like, how many times she can throw things out before she's exhausted, roughly what her dice are...
@yrsillar, any chance of us getting more detailed info on Xiulan based on what Ling Qi should know from their training?
Unrelatedly, I'm not sure if it was confirmed or not but @yrsillar, does the following HRA line:
Imply that we become immune to armor piercing and other non-perfect bypass effects? or is it just for the +2 armor granted by the tech itself.
@yrsillar Are the ma sisters twins? I have been thinking of them as twins but one could be a year older. Just wondering.
@yrsillar - I didn't notice you mention it in the story post, but we should have gotten +5 to Argent Current from the Vent.
@yrsillar
I feel like I have to ask: if we join the raid by Gan Guangli, can we bring along the Ma sisters? They are Cai followers after all and there's no reason not to bring more people on a raid like this.
Ok, let's talk wolves. Because I don't know if people have really grasped what we can do to the dice.
The Hungry Giant had ~20 defense dice without using arts. 22 attack with tech. Fairly tanky with 13 health and 2 natural armor. Early Bronze. Note that Chu Song also only had 20 dice without using techs.
Looking back to Serpent's Treasure, the Mountainroot Bats had 10 dice at low yellow. The Elder (mid yellow) had 13 dice using its tech. These were being boosted by another Elder (Ebon Quickening).
tldr; Spirit beast dice are not fantastic.
Now, what do we do in our opening? Assume we open at long range (60-80m) with FVM, doing Diapason + Dissonance. Assuming they all hit (and with our higher dice and autos against most of the wolves, they will), that's -12 (-4 diapason, -2 dissonance, -6 multi-attack) to their defense. (double check: @yrsillar, diapason and dissonance both count as attacks, right?)
So, most of the wolves now have essentially no defense. Xiulan, otoh, probably has ~30 dice on AoE (we have 23 on Meteoric Shower, and if she isn't better than us then it would be pathetic and I would lose respect for her). In other words? She's hitting her damage cap, whatever it is. She should realistically expect ~10 successes + autos over the wolves. And it seems very unlikely here that the mid-yellow wolves have more than 10 health. Qi-wise, probably 20? Maybe a bit more? 30 would be high. Anyway, if Xiulan hits them, they suffer.
Now add in the fact that, with kiting and Elegy stun, the earliest they could realistically attack us would be round 3. Which means they've taken 3 ticks of dissonance, and 2 of elegy... which is -12 qi. Which is probably quite a lot for them. Basically, by the time they reach us Xiulan can probably blow up a lot of them.
What about the Alpha? Well, again, he probably has ~20 defense. Which means that, after our opening, he's at somewhere around ~8-14 defense. Against Xiulan's 30+
She can totally hit her damage cap against him too.
So, we go Diapason + Mist first turn, they have to sprint for us. Xiulan drops aoe if possible, and if they're too spread out just snipes the Alpha for maximum damage.
Turn 2: they'll have clumped up now, since sprinting would have gotten them close to us. This means good AoE for Xiulan. We stun the mooks with Elegy, and refresh HRA. Tank the Alpha no problem.
Turn 3: We switch to bow, and shoot Alpha with AtW, putting them all at -6 for attack, and thus probably single digits. Xiulan drops a second AoE, and at this point half of them are probably dead, and possibly the Alpha as well (~2 AoE's + an arrow from us? + maybe a lightning bolt? Yeah.). The survivors can attack us.
Turn 4: mop up

So a question about Fleeting Zephyr, "Against the Wind" says that it can be used without a weapon attack so what mastery is used in that case? Power?
Su Ling's issue is with getting involved with politics. She's never mentioned having a problem with being a minion. The first could suggest the latter but it could also suggest she'd prefer being a minion to leading or being involved in politics e.g if the only way to be left alone by MoI was to pay lip service to someone and we're the only option that'd ask nothing in return.I don't think that I want to mix our minions and Su Ling. To my interpretation Su Ling doesn't want to be a minion, full stop. And even though a large part of the sect probably assumes that she is our minion, Ling Qi has generally tried to treat her as a friend.
I think that asking her to spar with people who are explicitly our minions might come off as us treating Su Ling as our minion, which could worsen our relationship with her.
Yeah. Well if your unarmed, see Codex's post above@yrsillar

Consider giving smaller bonuses to the rolls if it turns out that our tutor ends up only being kinda a match for one or the other. Seems like a fair punishment for deciding to take non-matching tutoring actions.Eh, they are kinda of disparate, but I suppose I can work something out.
What's the multo attacked formula again? Because IIRC, this sounds like very wolf ocultasse being alone vs Diapason and Dissonance and as still fighting Ling Qi 1x1.Now, what do we do in our opening? I very much disagree. We still aren't at the point where we must choose to go all-in on the Sect Arts.[X] Plan Emerald Sea
Eh on investing in more argent arts. We've been told that going in on these generally means building around Argent Arts pretty much entirely, and that they're just a bunch of good arts otherwise. Asking a favor from Cai isn't worth it.
If we can't literally fit 1-2 actions in to build up a specialty (e.g., music, stealth) then we absolutely shouldn't go looking for a random art that has quite probably has nothing to do with our build. If we can devote potential time to looking for the argent art, then we can spend it on a more in-build art instead.
