Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

Which would be a bit odd don't you think? The fact that the sect determines a person's combat effectiveness through single combat seems weird to me. There are many different types of talents in the sect, and excluding them here seems weird.

Team coordinated cultivator are just as useful to the sect and the Empire, if not more So, than single person powerhouses. It seems a bit inefficient to me for the sect to make the entire tournament 1v1 and reduce the effectiveness of these team players. That would be wasting the talent of good cultivator.

This isn't me saying that the tournament is gonna be team battles though. It's just me thinking out loud on how flexible the sect would be in accommodating competent cultivator who don't work so well in single combat.

Maybe there are alternative methods for these sorts of people to enter the Inner Sect, I dunno, but if I was an Elder i would try to be inclusive towards those who work best in a team.
There's also the fact that winning the tournament isn't the only way to get into Inner Sect. We don't even know if winning is how they pick entrants, it could just be a way to display talent so the Elders can choose between those with the ambition. Also, I imagine a support applicant with enough talent could be given a by even if it's typically just winners that go through.

Hah. Some funny discussion fragments from Discord tonight, fueled by my desire for rest (But my inability to do so).

On Elder Jiao's Reaction to us asking for help training Larceny:

"You're just straight up asking me this?"

"Look, I want to know how to steal someone's clothes from off their bodies as they go. Because I want to laugh at the look on their face when they realize I stripped them down to their smallclothes while they weren't looking"

On Storage Rings

Ling Qi: "Hey Meizhen, you have a spare, high capacity storage ring I could borrow for a night?"

Meizhen: "Why would you ever want that?"

Ling Qi: "So I can pillage Yan Renshu's production track sweatshop tonight"

@yrsillar Is it possible for Ling Qi to try to find more information about the structure of the end of year tournament? If it is "traditional" people would presumably already know how it works from previous years. Or is that something she might already know? Or does it change from year to year? Or is the information suppressed somehow?

You can just taste the Ling Qi-ness in this hypothetical conversation.

Its glorious.

[X] Driving Zephyr: An evolution of the common wind arts of the south. This branch focuses upon offense, driving forth allied missiles on the scathing eastern winds to strike home in the heart of the enemy

If the tournament is 1v1, that if a bit unlikely for a team art...
The value the art gives does not have to be solely at the tourney. If the art helps us reach sites that were out of easy reach before that would be great. If it helps us steal and make clean getaways. Anyway the value an art gives to help us into the inner sect does not need to be during the tourney to be worth while.

Just to make sure. Also not sure why @Vanguard_D 's vote isn't showing.

I don't think AC will cap at just 3rd level.
Considering how it's been earned, it should be significantly more powerful than the average trial art reward, which generally already hold quite some power themselves.

We aren't going to max all our arts. Getting AC3 in the two eightfold pills actions means we have it at a good level where it's usable and decide whether we want to max it or not, as it has to compete with a lot of other powerful arts for that.

This is pure speculation, but I suspect that we'd be better off having AC4 than AC3 and FZ3

That's why it's so good AC3 and hopefully FZ3 will be rather quick, so we can decide whether either of those arts are worth taking further for our particular build without losing too many actions.

I'm hoping we do manage to get FZ1 this week though.

I still carry the dream, the dream that we can get FZ1 and FZ2! It all depends on how FZ progresses is determined.

Speaking of FZ and wind-based mobility arts, flying archers are the worst type of opponents to face, as the Imperial soldiers have found out fighting the Cloud bandits, and I have hopes that successor arts to FZ could lead to a flying wind art.

I actually feel like the ZB+ branches feel 'complete' there. ZB seems like a simple and direct art that demands complete mastery of specific aspect of wind that aren't conceptual, and I can see the three branches being extremely polished art that do their simple specific thing extremely well, but that for higher cultivation levels you probably have to go into more esoteric or conceptual things.

The first advantage of ZB would be that it's really fucking good at teaching you about wind before you put any conceptual shenanigans there, but it would ultimately be limited and have no successor arts at bronze. The second advantage would be that not getting into conceptual things mean it doesn't get into any awkward places trying to do too difficult things for the cultivation level or things that are extremely hard to make an art about, and as such its power would be pretty damn good for a yellow art.
