It'd be cool to see some Horta show up. Did Straak ever run into any of them on his 5YMs? Also wow the Catians are dysfunctional. How did they ever get cleared for ratification like this lol.
I dunno. She's pushed for a number of things that were definitely long term issues, even if they alleviated a short term problem. Remember the (retconned) proposal to recreate the MACOs?
Now, the hamhandedness and abrasiveness I can see, but that's somewhat separate from the question of whether her domestic policy position is good or bad.
Hi, everyone, I just joined up to ask a question that's been bugging me for a while now: What exactly has N'Gir done wrong? I know that at one point she was alienating her own support, but I have only been reading the discussion in the past couple of weeks and it keeps popping up. What is her "program"?
Basically, every time "we" (that is, the administrative leadership of Starfleet) interacts with her "on-camera," she behaves in an abrasive manner. She tends to cast blame on the admiral (and by extension us) for things that weren't their (our) fault or that we didn't really have control over.
The specific policy things we know she's done aren't actually that problematic, but she manages to antagonize every time we see her, and we've never actually seen her in a positive light doing things that are constructive. If she weren't so personally obnoxious "towards the camera," no one would have much against her.
She's the lead representative of the faction that is most in opposition to Starfleet and to some degree a lot of the playerbase (Starfleet leans Expansionist pretty hard). It's not surprising that people don't like her.
I personally strongly dislike Development and think some of their foreign policy decisions are asinine, but that's me.
I'm going to be honest, I don't think Development is necessarily bad or anti-Starfleet. A big part of the problem is that by nature, we see the things Expansionists care about (diplomacy, bringing new friends into the Federation, exploration), and we get to do that. We don't see the things the Developmentalists care about, except at the fringes, because they mainly care about the domestic economy. And we can't actually do much to help with that, either.
But without that carefully built up post-scarcity domestic economy that the Developmentalists probably spent a LOT of time building over the last 150 years, we wouldn't have the relatively powerful Starfleet we have today. There's a reason we've been able to build massive space fortresses and shipyards in a matter of a few years just by calling in a few political favors in a Snakepit turn.
It'd be cool to see some Horta show up. Did Straak ever run into any of them on his 5YMs? Also wow the Catians are dysfunctional. How did they ever get cleared for ratification like this lol.
Well, that, but given they live their whole lives underground digging through rocks they tend to have very strong opinions on digging through rocks, being underground, and geology in general.
You'd be surprised what an organization like the UFP can tolerate in its membership. Every member government has its issues, imperfections and deficiencies; they just haven't gotten the same focus at center stage.

You remember the episode of the original series where we find out Vulcans have barbaric death duels as part of their cultural because that's preferable to having an emotionally honest conversation about sex? I do!
There's the two-part battlecruiser debacle:
She refered to Excelsiors as BCs during one of the Arcadian War snakepits, then made a comment that she'd have fired Sousa if we'd lost either Excelsior during that battle - which was an assault on a heavily fortified system in a war she very much supported.
There's the time she called the entirety of Starfleet Command morons by saying that she expected she would need to drag us kicking and screaming into helping with post Arcadian War rebuilding.
There's her repeated attempts to use Starfleet officers as fall guys for other people's screwups.
And of course there was an aborted event dealing with her political shenanigans that provoked such a shitstorm it was retconned into never having started in the first place.
That was the only time AFAIK we had the thread locked for people to calm down. Which is honestly pretty impressive considering we're at over 2500 pages. N'Gir has a special talent for infuriating us posters, and we have a talent for voting for things that put us in confrontation in the first place.
The policy proposals involved there weren't even that bad; it was entirely the way they were packaged and handled that turned the whole thing into a mess.
Looking through recently-threadmarked omakes, I noticed that the Adam Jensen expy is now either dead or one of at most a handful of traumatized survivors from the Renaissance.

Cardassian Ship Analysis Report - Jaldun II Refit
The Jaldun-II or Jaldun-bis as it is sometimes referred to, is an extensive refit adding considerable capacity and survivability to the Jaldun destroyer. It is an across the board improvement, fuelled in many ways by incoming Imelak technology infusions. As such, the interiors of these ships betray a non-Cardassian design ethos in heavily refit areas. However, the resulting performance improvements have silenced criticism, and opened the door for more Cardassian-Client state cooperation.

Harmony of Horizon Fleet Strength Report
This is a somewhat complex matter. Before we can begin to speak of the Harmony's fleet strength, we need to discuss Directorates. The spacegoing strength of the Harmony is tied up in a trio of Directorates.
The Peacekeeper Directorate - Functionally their principal military arm. Divided into four equal fleets with an astrographic area of responsibility.
The Public Safety Directorate - Operates as an exceptionally well armed interstellar law enforcement service with a very broad remit. Divided into a series of Precincts of varying size and astrographic responsibility.
The Science Directorate - Smallest of the three directorates, but potentially the one we are most likely to meet. Divided into Orders according to a wide variety of focal points.
We can say for sure that each of the Peacekeeper Fleets is anchored by a Sanctuary-class Fleet Tender, a tremendous five megaton mothership that supports an approximate dozen of short-range Corvettes. They are then supported by two older, much smaller, fleet tenders. The exact numbers of Corvettes in each fleet is not precisely known. Providing some heavy metal staying power, each fleet is also backed by a quartet of Liberators.
The Public Safety Directorate operates in, we believe, six Precincts, sharing a dozen of the older pattern fleet tenders which have been relegated to home service. In addition, they have a wide variety of older corvettes, and Alert-class public safety corvettes, almost like space-going law enforcement cruisers. A dozen Scientist-class cruisers and about a half-dozen older Solace-class battlecruisers help provide additional strength.
The Science Directorate is at least a dozen, but probably more, Scientist-class cruisers, and an equal number of Solace-class battlecruisers. The Solace-class, though a battlecruiser, is still a very capable research and diplomatic vessel, but a lot stronger in combat. Beware that outwardly they appear nearly identical, but you would not want to mistake the two.
GBZ: Cardassian Fleet Strength in the GBZ
We had prepared a report on this matter, however, recent campaigns have rendered all available reporting moot. We do know that their forces are being reinforced by further forces drawn from their Spinward Border, where reports suggest a war was being fought, and recently concluded.
GBZ: Determine what projects other factions are up to
Things had been surprisingly quiet in terms of new progress and projects, but after recent events, it became clear why that is. It is worth noting that the Konen have begun to move into the Gabriel, though how much expansion any of these factions will take right now is open to speculation.
We can say that there are strong signs that the Dylaarians are establishing a Starbase to anchor their holdings.
Klingon Ship Design Analysis: Tar'chak class heavy warbird
The Klingon Empire was apparently struck by a need to provide an anchor to its fleets of Bird of Prey, and realised that even the capable K'tinga-class battlecruiser was no longer up to the task. After witnessing the effectiveness of the Romulan Devoras-class heavy warbirds, and the Excelsior-class explorer, they opted for their own multi-megaton warship. The Tar'chak was the end result of that design process. Rushed through development and prototyping due to the oncoming war with the Romulans, the Tar'chak is now beginning to enter service and have an impact in the fighting. It shows that what Klingon engineers and designers lack in grace, they certainly make up for in rugged, maintainable designs, and solid engineering. A Klingon engineer no more accepts shoddiness in their work than their warrior accepts a shoddy bat'leth stance.
They are believed to have five in service and five more under construction.
Status/Progress of Klingon-Romulan War
While precise numbers are difficult to obtain, we have found that it is relatively straightforward to get a handle on the war, as both sides have shown an interest in boasting about their successes. By corroborating with signal intercepts, we are able to track progress relatively well.
============
Iberius Front
Combatants
Very Heavy - Major action
The conflict for the Iberius system was brutal, with much loss of life and ship. Repeated Klingon pushes were turned back, and Romulan defenders fought to their last breath to keep the crucial Iberius Fleet Yards secure. In the end, reinforcements arrived and a counter attack forced the Klingons from their operating bases at Iberius VI. They have returned to Vinum starbase to lick their wounds, but not before their wolfpacks took advantage of the weakened flank guards to devastate the industrial facilities at Levoc III.
Key Objectives The Levoc System - A minor colony world with an outpost and a weapons production facility supporting Iberius Fleet Yards - Devastated by Klingon Wolf Packs The Iberius System - A Major Romulan World, with one of the largest shipyards outside of Romulus The Vinum Starbase - The Gateway to the Iberius system, a tough obstacle
The Ginok Pah System - A heavily reinforced outpost protecting Tholinium mines
The Hadab System - The Starbase that controls the shipping lanes back to Qon'os
Momentum Klingon Empire Advantage
Paskan Front
Combatants
Effectively Nil
The entire Paskan Front was subject to a mystifying lack of action, with action limited to simply raiding attacks. Analysts believe that the cause was the meat-grinder like battle for the Iberius System, with forces from both sides being redirected into what our human analysts refer to as a Verdun-like scenario. Nonetheless, some raiding continued, and ships bearing material to Pompara came under fire on a few occasions.
Major Objectives Ivix - A sparsely inhabited colony, but a major fleet hub. Formerly a key industrial site.
Pompara - One of the major worlds, has been raided on a couple occasions Mothidum - A minor colony with strong outposts, hub of the Paskan Front for the Romulans
Alixros - Originally a major Romulan colony, now captured by the Klingons, and the Romulans place a high priority on retaking it
Path'loq - A Klingon system with civilian shipyards
Momentum
Neutral
Blood Gate Front
Combatants
Light Forces - With the masking presence of the nebula, it is easy for cloaked ships to cause mayhem, executing ambush and counter ambush
A renewed counter-attack on the Aniak system rendered results, driving back Klingon forces from the shattered remains of what was once a productive Romulan research facility. The news was widely broadcast on Romulan media, which were very hungry for good news out of a year of stalemate and high casualties. At the same time, Klingon raiders have been prolific, and Jarok's Beacon was destroyed, as were a number of support facilities around Ocutis Starbase.
Major Objectives Jarok's Beacon - Inhabited only by a Tal Shiar facility and a small logistical hub. The Tal Shiar facility was heavily damaged in a raid.
Ocutis Starbase - The last major stronghold left in the sector, which must be held - Now damaged by raids.
Aniak System - A former Romulan Research colony, now destroyed, which the Romulans have now recaptured The Latch - A key system near the centre of the nebula that offers the best sensor vectors on the rest of the nebula
Beta Kornak - The hub of Klingon activity at the base of the nebula
Momentum Moderate Romulan Advantage
Frontier
The Romulan work on the Frontier continues, with daring strikes ranging as far as Qon'os itself. The full extent of this damage is not yet clear, but if it continues it may be sufficient to forces the Klingons on the defensive across the fronts. Resource stockpiles were also hit, hampering attempts to produce the new Tar'chak and B'rel classes.
The overall aim of the Romulan diplomatic posture is to develop economic ties in their area. So far they are putting most of their focus into the Sotaw and Licori, the former of whom we are now learning is expected to join the Romulans in an alliance soon. Their Licori efforts are shifting tack from courting the noble houses directly, and more for developing ties to the nascent but fast-growing middle-class of the Arcadian Empire. In addition, they are developing ties with the Ked Paddah, Laio and Tauri.
Most of this is being undertaken but non-standard agencies within the Star Empire. It appears that the Tal Shiar has suffered badly over the past two decades, mostly from post-Biophage purges, but also from the Klingon War, and repeated loss of assets to Starfleet Intelligence during operations in Sydraxian and Licori space. However, in many ways these agencies that have been pressed into action are yielding more positive results for the Romulans than the Tal Shiar. We know that there is growing concern among our own Diplomatic Service.
So far their attitudes towards the Harmony are closely guarded, but it is believed that there is a surplus of distrust.
Dylaarian Diplomatic Posture Report
So far the Dylaarians are still firmly in the Pact's orbit, and show no intentions of changing this posture. While they are not the most militarily potent force, their entry into the GBZ combined with advantages the Cardassians have given them in coreward exploration, the Dylaarian Clans are making great economic strides. They still maintain some trade with the Sydraxians by taking a circuitous route. Overall, they look like they are doing their best to position themselves as the Ashalla Pact's engine room, producing goods rapidly using the strengths of their conclave system, and improving the economic position of the other Pact members as a result.

Well, we found the source of the transmissions, and the technology was Cardassian, but the operators were Bajoran. It appears that a Bajoran off-shoot group, looking to live according to their more traditional caste-based culture. I'm not a big fan of this, but at the same time, it is the height of interventionist arrogance to swoop in on a people-group and attempt to reform them according to our own sensibilities. In fact, I probably have a few Apiata crew members who would sharply disagree with any such attempt. We have made contact, however, and let them know that we are aware of them.
They've provided us with information regarding the situation in Bajor, and the forced cultural shift underway there, and my social scientists will be preparing a report.
We do know that their forces are being reinforced by further forces drawn from their Spinward Border, where reports suggest a war was being fought, and recently concluded.
What this means is that they will be making a push back into the GBZ. Thankfully, they dont have the sensor advantage anymore, which is generally where we shine. However, we don't have a star base to anchor our claim and position, and we are otherwise extended.
