Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

This was an awesome update. Loved the thoughts flickering to her equipment, her relationship with Fan Yu and Xiulan's new art. Also loved Ling Qi storming through the sect, a charging mass of mist. Cai and Gan also had their moment of awesome though I'm unsure whether they're bluffing or not. Qi's mind going to the apparent familiarity between Cai and Meizhen when thinking of whether to stand by her side was sweet. Also makes me lean towards helping, friend of a friend and all. I am wondering what happened to Meizhen though.

"And even then, do you expect that we are alone? The remainder of my allies will return shortly," Cai Renxiang called back. "Do not think so highly of your rabble." Ling Qi caught her glancing down at the mist, and did not miss the way the heiress subtly gestured for her to continue their retreat.

Cai Renxiang probably want to retreat herself or have plans for fighting her enemies.

[x] Retreat to the safety of the lecture hall

Yeah I think they kind of got a little thrown off by "Ling Qi becomes a mobile weather system that sweeps out to vanish all the individual fights into one big battleblob"...but there's more up their sleeves too.

I think this is a test on their part.

Meizhen probably has her own mission right now. Putting her own fire, as it is.

As for Cai... I am thinking part of her reason to tell us to run is because of an agreement with Meizhen, or maybe she considers the risk of us being severely wounded worse than the help we could give (if it's not an agreement but just doesn't want Meizhen to be upset with her). There is also, obviously, Han Jian to think of when it comes to Xiulan and Fan Yu.

I guess it's also possible she is planning to retreat herself after we are gone, but I'm thinking she is going to give it her all before retreating, and we can help, there. Best case scenario would obviously be Han Jian and Han Fang interrupt. Them coming now would be a god-damn lot of help... and it was probably what Renshu didn't want.

Speaking of, beside my desire to help a friend of a friend, as well as desire to help someone trying to sacrifice themselves for us (apparently), I do want to kick Renshu's teeth in, too. He's on the list, after all.

Some questions, @yrsillar.

1. What is Yan Renshu's cultivation level?
2. What is the distance from us to the hall?

I'm thinking we want to retreat here, but that doesn't mean we can't drop a rain of arrows on our enemies as we do...

We only have 1 dot in War, and I'm thinking Cai is actually pretty good at War. Retreating to a hardpoint (the lecture hall) allows Cai to do her plan - I'm pretty sure it's like an aoe attack to buy room - and then retreat with us, but both she and GG are more mobile than we are ATM with Fan Yu and Gu Xiulan lagging. That means, the longer we stay, the longer Cai and GG are forced to stay; we need to retreat first in order to retreat as a cohesive group. Once at the lecture hall, we can fortify more until the other members of the Cai council regroup with us to force the 2nd years back.

I'm going to trust in Cai's plan.

@Codex - I was asking about Chu Song, not Cai Renxiang.

Ah, well I'm assuming the fact that Meizhen beat Chu Song so thoroughly and was still up for more, and the fact that our armor absorbed the damage of her first attack when we only had 13 dice for defence (we weren't in darkness and we weren't able to activate CG) probably means she's Early.

Well, gave a couple mins for discussion and stuff.
Since I don't know when the vote will close Ill make my vote here and change if needed.

So this is the Renshu that led the ambush on Xiulan. I think getting revenge for that is necessary, and fighting him now wouldn't get us the necessary beatdown his offense requires. Thus, retreat for now, and then later steal everything that's not nailed down in his house (or that of his followers) and/or tag up with Xiulan to beat him up in a fair fight.

Winning the current fight removes the revenge casus belli, and losing the fight simply isn't worth it. Also, Cai Renxiang knows more about the current state of affairs in the sect; I'll trust her instincts where Ling Qi is best placed for this event.

Yeah, its pretty clear that following Cai's advice is the right move here.
If staying turns out badly that would be entirely our fault for disobeying Cai, but if running turns out badly for Cai, that wouldn't be our fault at all.

Plus, running sounds like a better plan anyways.

Fan Yu
Dexterity 4, Stealth 2, Mist 2, Shade 3. 11 dice. +4 Cultivation auto
2 2 5 3 5 10 10 2 3 6 10. 3 successes. 7 total
Dude's a frieking perfectionist. either it's perfect 10 or it fails. Kinda fits :)

Side note: i still have no idea how rolls are determined to be successful or not: Rolls as high as "6" ends as a failure here , why ?

i'm a supporter of individual choices. If wounded Fan Yu is stupid enough to want to stay and fight then it's his problem.

Wait, @yrsillar, when Cai was subtly signaling Ling Qi to retreat, was she signaling towards the lecture hall, or was it more of a "get out of the way, I've got an area attack coming" signal?

The discussion about thieving previously to the update reminded me; @yrsillar, are Arts centered/themed around stealing a thing? By which I mean things like taking an opponent's Qi and filling up one's own reserves with it, taking "health" to heal one's own wounds or get temporary health boxes like from Thousand Ring Fortress, or stealing arts used by opponents during the battle (not in the permanent sense, but a termpoary one. Ie, if an opponent shoots a fireball, stealing that one fireball and shooting it back at him, or storing it for later. If an opponent has a technique granting him iron skin, stealing that iron skin for oneself. And so on.

When it comes to cultivation we roll below 6. When we're doing a skill check or a combat roll, we have to roll 7 or above for a success. So we have a 40% success rate there.

As a side note, talent is what determines our success margin for cultivation. Becuase we're talent 6 all rolls below 6 are successes in cultivation.

We've been asked to take our allies and retreat in good order. No point in staying and risk turning what could be a coordinated withdrawal into a rout for us.
