Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

Honestly, I suspect she just dislikes Cai more then she dislikes Liling. Cai is expanding, intending to have the entire mountain, not just our year, bow to her authority. She also punished a personal friend of hers. Even if Liling didn't treat him right, she did still free him.

So yeah, she might dislike Liling, but she sees Cai as a devil that must be defeated. She can work with someone she doesn't like in the short term, as Sun Liling doesn't seem to have what it takes to actually lead. Winning every fight isn't enough to lead on it's own, and Liling doesn't win every fight.

Sure it is, if you can win every fight, you can crush anyone who disagrees with you. And Sun Liling given basically a farm that she can optimize her already blisteringly fast Cultivation with is basically handing her the keys to winning everything forever--and Chu Song is right below Bai Meizhen on Sun Liling's "Beat you up" list. As the only other Third Realm we know in the Outer Sect.

You'd need some serious wishful thinking to unshackle a Blood Knight and let them attack whoever they wanted whenever they want, and expect they won't turn on you next.

Huh... It's kind of the opposite there. She bought an item from someone else to hide from us, then comes and talk while telling us "I am delaying you". She wants to be honest and genial, but she definitely doesn't seem to care about face at all.

Yeah, fundamentally disagree with you here. Sneaking isn't inherently unsightly or damaging to personal honor, it's what you do with it. All the elders spy on us all the time, we can assume. She's older and of higher cultivation then us, so she has a certain laditude in how she deals with us, as long as it's with a certain level of kid gloves. Unless we do something so foolish or insulting that she has "legitimate" cause against us anyways.

Likewise, by making sure we know what she's about, that our friends are safe, and that this is only aimed at Cai, she minimizes the chance she has to fight us, and if she does she makes sure it's in a context where her actions are scrupulously above board.

That's very much someone concerned with acting proper.

Well... Who uses Snakes that we know of? Everything makes sense now.

Bai Meizhen is Orochimaru?! No, say that isn't so! Now we'll need to keep an eye out for the mass-human experimentation! ...You don't think she's trying to make a human with full Wood Arts, do you? *Takes a note to keep an eye out for a Tenzo/Yamamoto expy too.*

Seriously though, I forget if anyone else used snakes.

[X] She wants to talk, then she can talk. You'll listen and plan.

It's an interesting option as it gives us information, and probably weakens Cai - assuming she loses - which isn't bad for us, all while giving us a good excuse.

..She didn't make sure to tell us our friends were safe or that this was only aimed at Cai, though she did tell us we shouldn't be loyal to Cai.

Anyway, about the talk of Cai wouldn't doubt us: that only applies if we don't rush to take any actions that can weaken us. If we don't help her when she is in trouble, it doesn't matter how useful we could be, we are not actually useful to her.

Another thing: Cai makes sure to reward people who go above expectations. We got the robe last time, and we are getting paid every week as well as getting free minions and outstanding rights. Trying to see what we can do, now, will also probably give us a lot of goodies.

Though TBH I'm mostly worried about how specifically we were told Meizhen was fine (and not our other friends) for now (and not in a couple hours).

Well, Fuxiang could be trying to impress Elder Jiao to get a recommendation for the Ministry of Integrity, getting the scoops to appease the Grinning Moon, or simply playing a political plot.

Or maybe he just got that suspicious looking face, like the MC from Log Horizon having the nickname of "The Villain in Glasses", "Black Heart Glasses", "Dark Kuroe", etc.

Suspicious looking face?

Anyway, here is what Chu Song says to us:
"Nah, I just promised that bloody princess that I'd keep you out of the ruckus she's raising, you know?" The girl responded with a shrug, striding forward out of the underbrush, Ling Qi backed up, keeping an even distance. Chu Song wore a pair of dark grey baggy pants tucked into knee high armored boots. "I didn't mind doing her a favor, since I wanted a chat with you anyway."

Ling Qi glanced to the side, her heartbeat picking up. Sun Liling was back? She had known the girl wouldn't say away forever, but there hadn't been any warning at all? She needed to get out of here, if Meizhen was caught up in this, she needed to back the other girl up.

"I will have to stop you if you try to leave," Chu Song said casually, likely reading her expression. "I gave my word and all," she drawled easily. "You shouldn't worry so much. That princess is only after that Cai demon at the moment. Miss Bai'll be fine."
So, she tells us a 'ruckus' is being raised, so it's not something that will only be between her and Cai. Likewise, "Sun Liling is only against Cai at the moment" which doesn't mean she won't be against Meizhen tomorrow.

However, this doesn't say anything about our other friends being fine. While Sun Liling is needed to move personally to endanger Meizhen, no such thing is needed for Han Jian/ Gu Xiulan, and they are part of her inner council. Gu Xiulan in specific was part of tha anti-Kang Zihao strike force, attacking not only his minions but also him, so we can expect direct retaliation against Gu Xiulan right now. Given Han Jian and Han Fang were away earlier this week, she might be especially vulnerable.

I really don't want a repeat of the thunderdom where we were too busy going at the market to check up on friends. Please.

Another thing:
"That isn't reassuring," Ling Qi snapped, her temper rising a bit as she glared at the taller girl. The hem of her gown kicking up with phantom wind."We are kind of her allies if you can't tell."

"Are you now?" Chu Song asked dangerously, the snap of electricity from the air around her matching Ling Qi's own rising wind. "I wouldn't have figured you were actually loyal," she continued seriously. "If so, that's my mistake. I suppose we can duel, if you really want to play the loyal dog."
This makes it pretty clear that both Ling Qi and Chu Song considers helping with what's going on being loyal.

Basically, I want some more information before doing anything.

While I'd love more information, it's important to remember here that information is not free. In this case, getting the information costs us the time we would need to do anything about the current events.

It may give us options long term, but we are surrendering the ability to help our friends right now.

I just think it's massively impulsive to rush off at the first words of a suspiscious person we caught spying on us. If we can trust she's honourable and knows more about the situation than we do then talking to her is valuable. If we don't believe that's the case we ought to find her informing us that something vaguely bad is occurring, when we had no way of knowing without her, highly suspect. I pretty much want her to elaborate about everything she told us.

What is the ruckus exactly? What did she want to talk to us about? Why mention Meizhen and what about our other friends? We know nothing right now, if she's willing to talk we should let her rather than having to fight through her, her spirit and her lackeys and then run around like a headless chicken trying to figure out what the hell's going on.

I think if we assume she is honest, then we must believe her when she says that stalling us means she has done her job to prevent us from stopping Sun Liling's ruckus. Likewise, we must believe Ling Qi and her opinion that not leaving means not being loyal- which is something that is arguably a choice.

We gain nothing by talking now here, as while she has a lot to tell us that could be relevant the mere fact of listening to it is already making our choice. It still means we can plan on how to deal with the fallout, or maybe even more... but there is no information we need, right now. What we need is simply going to our friends and checking if things are bad there or not, not letting our friends get mugged out of sight while we ask about it.

If we assume she is lying, why would we want to talk?

Ling Qi is quite adept at hauling ass so lets do so.

Ling Qi didn't state not leaving means being disloyal. She only thought that Cai being the only target isn't reassuring since they're allies.

If she is lying talking would make it easier to catch her out on it, it also would hopefully inform us more about what's actually going on. She still knows a hell of a lot more than us. She isn't loyal to Liling so anything she knows, I imagine, she wouldn't mind sharing with the one she's actually interested in. We could then use that information to plan rather than just running off and hoping for the best.

For information of interest. Possibly targets, numbers, locations of attacks, how the attacks are spread i.e. massive group all attacking Cai or smaller groups attacking multiple targets at once etc.

Ok, I think talking is a trap option.
She just admitted she is here to stall us.

If she wanted to talk, she should have come earlier.

And from what we have seen, I dislike Liling.

Besides, we just somewhat smoothed out our relationship with Bai. Our even perceived disloyalty or opportunistic behavior here could damage this barely mended bond, especially if Bai gets hurt in our absence, and knowing the relationship between Liling's and Bai's families does anyone here rule this out?

She is not a friend of sun liling And do just a favour for her some thing she wanted to do anyway

We don't need to start with a bad first meeting
We may can make her an ally
Or at least not a problem for us
But if if we run i don't believe that this will going to mak a good first impression
