So here's a little thing on how Hanyi's mother might react to one possible series of events. I don't think it'll be canon, as it probably departs from how
@yrsillar plans the 'mother's' personality, etc etc, but...
Snow Mother, Snow Child
She stared in silence at the small figure of her child, who was staring down at where her toe was sketching aimlessly in the snow.
"What did you do
now, Hanyi?" She couldn't help the exasperation from seeping into her normally-calm voice. She took quite a bit of pride in showing no emotion no matter what her circumstance, whether it was scaring away overly-curious young humans from the nearby sect, explaining bluntly to the elders of said sect why a particularly arrogant child froze to death on her mountain, negotiating with the other spirits of the local domain or in her brief fling with Hanyi's frustratingly whimsical father.
And yet, for all her efforts, somehow her daughter managed to break her equilibrium. She knew she had never been that… exploratory... as a child, nor was she ever that oblivious to danger. Normally, Hanyi was kept close to her side - as much to reign in her insatiable curiosity as to keep her away from the dangers off her mountain peak.
Unfortunately, sometimes she had to deal with other matters and needed to leave Hanyi on her own, such as tonight. And, inevitably, as often as not, she'd come back to find… well, her daughter trying (and failing) to look innocent. Just like she was now.
"Well, you know the humans, the ones from the sect?"
And there was the familiar sinking feeling. She wasn't… afraid of the Argent Sect, precisely, but only a fool wasn't cautious of the power of their elders. She didn't need to have to appease or negotiate over dead students on the 'safe' road, or some elder's beard becoming extra-frosty, or whatever mischief her daughter had gotten into. And now, of all times! She sighed, almost not wanting to know more.
"Yeeesssss?" she drew out the syllable, and even oblivious Hanyi could tell that she wasn't pleased.
"One came here, to mama's yard, while you were away. A big sister, she had pretty eyes. She was awful mean, and didn't want to play, but then I convinced her to play tag and then she CHEATED and then when I told her that she was a cheat and she didn't win she said she didn't have time for me - and that's just mean again! - so I decided to teach her a lesson with the storm. But then she started playing on a flute, kinda like you do sometimes, and then everything went dark, kinda like in a snowstorm but I couldn't see a thing! I started to get kinda tired after trying to find the mean human in the dark, and then she hit me on the head and I slept for a bit. And when I woke up I was stuck half-way up the big tree over there!"
Her eye twitched. So one of the humans - probably one of the sect's disciples - had decided to take a night-time trip… on the one night she was busy… and Hanyi had bitten off more than she could chew. Well, at least the girl hadn't done much more than hurt her daughter's pride… but this was still
her patch of mountain and certain boundaries should be set as a matter of principle.
Firm principle.
