Now to find a Halberd/flute weapon...This is where the Ji, or Chinese Halberd, comes in. It is a polearm which is designed to keep the opponent away from you. Since Ling Qi is so tall and probably will grow taller, a Ji fitted to us will have tremendous reach and provide stopping power for anyone trying to get in close. Our speed will allow us to keep retreating or moving in a circle around them and the Ji will make it difficult for them to get into range to attack us with a sword or unarmed.
True. We can also write our name on the skin of our hopelessly outclassed foes (and leave them with a humiliating and bloody tramp stamp)Oh, and mastery of the Sword/Jian super-commonly connected with calligraphy. Which means there are ok odds that going down that path will help our formations ability in the long run.
@yrsillar are two handers a distinct subset of swords for mastery? What about dual wield?
Similarly, do I need to vote Longbow or just Bow?
So basically a Jian? Well, it was obvious those votes would have to be counted together anyways...A vote for just sword will be a standard one handed chinese sword and straight edged blades,
I figure it wall fall under a general Polearms mastery with the Ji.
No, unarmed weapons are the worst kind to have when someone does disarm you
The four noble weapons are Jian(sword), Gun(Staff), Qiang(Spear), and Dao (Saber). As such they're the weapons that will have the most arts for them, have the most respect granter their practitioners, and just generally be the best choices we could make. Both because it will be easiest to learn things for them, and because mastery of them will be treated with more respect then mastery of anything else.
Look, just vote for Chakram. You know you want to. I know I do. Halberd and Unarmed are both solid choices though, and uncommon.Hmmm... good point about respect and those being the classic four. But the jian is... well, I feel like it's just so common in xianxia already. And the bow, likewise, while the 'noble' ranged weapon doesn't really fit Ling Qi as the former street-rat she is.
The "gentlemen of weapons", the jian... well, that's the weapon of nobles. It's a two-sided sword, fairly typical blade length. Granted, Ling Qi herself is fairly tall, so a blade over two feet isn't quite so large to her... hmmm... perhaps a jian would be close enough to "short sword" then.
The "grandfather of weapons", the gun - well, that's more of a monk or peasant's weapon. And, to be honest, Ling Qi is probably more the blade type. Which also leaves the "king of weapons", the qiang also somewhat out. Granted, a halberd would really emphasize her reach... but it'll mean she's awkward close in, and it's definitely a strength weapon.
The "general of weapons", the dao, is a soldier's or killer's weapon. It's rarely seen among xianxia protagonists - I can think of one, off-hand, but that's it.
Dammit, our name isn't Zhang!
