Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

Oh, and mastery of the Sword/Jian super-commonly connected with calligraphy. Which means there are ok odds that going down that path will help our formations ability in the long run.

This is where the Ji, or Chinese Halberd, comes in. It is a polearm which is designed to keep the opponent away from you. Since Ling Qi is so tall and probably will grow taller, a Ji fitted to us will have tremendous reach and provide stopping power for anyone trying to get in close. Our speed will allow us to keep retreating or moving in a circle around them and the Ji will make it difficult for them to get into range to attack us with a sword or unarmed.
Now to find a Halberd/flute weapon... :V

True. We can also write our name on the skin of our hopelessly outclassed foes (and leave them with a humiliating and bloody tramp stamp)

[X] Shield
[X] Jian

Sword and board! I'm not sure how this works out, talisman-wise, but Kang Zihao used a spear and shield method and if we're down to fighting in a melee, we probably want that added survivability.

>picking Jian
>NOT GLAIVE

Yall need to respect the true master of polearms

[]Bow
[]Glaive

Still voting for these, but vote recalled later down.

Also tempted to say Chakrams because they actually suit Ling Qi a lot but the niche is adequately filled by throwing knives for now and we can only vote for two.
But just in case we get to do this again later...

[X] Qiang(Spear)

FUCK YEAH! Zhang Liao/Zhao Yun here we come! :D

[X] Jian

We'll get to make "handling" (Han) Jian jokes plus it would give us a nice bonding method with Han Jian and Su Ling

Hmmm, how do you guys think a shield works? Like does it give a fixed bonus to dodge and doesn't really count as a weapon, or does it add to your armor value, or is it something else?

Clearly it can be used as a weapon, but that doesn't mean it'll take up a weapon slot. Upper end stuff probably gives much better armor bonuses than robes do, admittedly.

The four noble weapons are Jian(sword), Gun(Staff), Qiang(Spear), and Dao (Saber). As such they're the weapons that will have the most arts for them, have the most respect granter their practitioners, and just generally be the best choices we could make. Both because it will be easiest to learn things for them, and because mastery of them will be treated with more respect then mastery of anything else.

Hmmm... good point about respect and those being the classic four. But the jian is... well, I feel like it's just so common in xianxia already. And the bow, likewise, while the 'noble' ranged weapon doesn't really fit Ling Qi as the former street-rat she is.

The "gentlemen of weapons", the jian... well, that's the weapon of nobles. It's a two-sided sword, fairly typical blade length. Granted, Ling Qi herself is fairly tall, so a blade over two feet isn't quite so large to her... hmmm... perhaps a jian would be close enough to "short sword" then.

The "grandfather of weapons", the gun - well, that's more of a monk or peasant's weapon. And, to be honest, Ling Qi is probably more the blade type. Which also leaves the "king of weapons", the qiang also somewhat out. Granted, a halberd would really emphasize her reach... but it'll mean she's awkward close in, and it's definitely a strength weapon.

The "general of weapons", the dao, is a soldier's or killer's weapon. It's rarely seen among xianxia protagonists - I can think of one, off-hand, but that's it.

[X] Knives
[X] Unarmed

My thoughts on the vote are as follows: Throwing knives are cooler than bows. Unarmed combat is cooler than swords. We should have a ranged and melee style.

Look, just vote for Chakram. You know you want to. I know I do. Halberd and Unarmed are both solid choices though, and uncommon.

... you're just saying that to get me, aren't you?

Well, fine, it succeeded. But I'm not budging on knives over bows. On range... Ling Qi's knives have a 25 meter range, which is almost certainly engagement range for her (if ZB+ is found, that's liable to increase further). They're concealable, allowing for a feint and a hidden throw (or strike) from within her sleeves. They take a single hand, allowing her to wield a sword in one hand and throw a knife with the other.

[X] Jian
[X] Knives

EDIT: And really? Halberds as well? You want to give her a second large two-handed weapon\ to be using? When her long limbs already give her reach? That would more or less make stealthy strikes impossible?

I mean, she's good at stealth - I would expect a hidden knife or a feinting sword to be a perfect tactic for her to use in battle. You ain't hiding a bow in the thick of combat - or a halberd.
