Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

[X] Volunteer to return. She had only come here to help Meizhen after all

We're here as Meizhen's friend, and we already got some excellent luck. If it is a test of teamwork, then sacrificing for the team is the right choice of course, so the 'right answer' would be both of us giving up, but we can't tell Meizhen that. If it isn't, and only one person gets to go on... we already got something excellent.

[] Volunteer to return. She had only come here to help Meizhen after all
[] Wait, see what Bai Meizhen decides on her own
[] Try to convince her to try making the dash past the thing. It is bound to this chamber, and chained so tightly it can barely stand up. Surely they could get past it.
[] Convince her to let you be the one to go on?

It honestly seems to be a teamwork and loyalty test. First test was about being able to recognize your teammate, second was about fighting with them, and now the third seems to be about trusting your teammate.

So any answer that's not "betray your teammate" should be the good one. However the actual optimal one is unknown. Sadly we haven't found any treasures from the bats, though.

I guess there is nothing about the broken core we got before and trading it in :(

Hah. Trying to get past it is a bad idea. 3 realms above us...well. 72 autos at least if I counted correctly. Overconfidence in one's ability is bad and I can't see a duo push forward being rewarded.
G2 1 2
G3 3 4 5
G4 6 7 8
G5 9
Doubled 3 times. 9x2 = 18 x 2 = 36 x 2 =72

How do we trust he doesn't just kill whoever goes by him as the 1? Of course, that means even if we go 2, 1 person is definitely getting killed. The auto successes alone will ensure that even if he has crap stats elsewhere.

His ... speech is very strange. He dodged the question as to whether he would kill the one who is chosen to go forward? He guarantees he'd kill both if both pass or attack. Is he referring to the one who passes as the sole disciple as the "remaining disciple"? Also, there doesn't seem to be a timeframe as to when people have to return to the entrance.

"Tch, too long. This damned binding…" it growled in frustration. "You have a choice fleshlings," it continued irritably. "One may pass, and the other may return to the entrance. Choose."

The massive tortoise exhaled, and Ling Qi's hair billowed backward, her eyes watering as she was engulfed in a cloud of steam. "If I could kill you, you would be dead child," the thing replied flatly. "The child of deep waters understands."

"I know not why you apes do what you do,"
the tortoise replied. "Know that I will eat you both should you both attempt to pass or attack. I am bound to return the remaining disciple safely otherwise."

Return ... I think it's like a cave back there so maybe she'd have to come back? I'd like to ask if it's ok to wait on this side while Meizhen passes so that she can tell us she got across safely.

We could go look through those bat corpses while we wait?

There's an idea. How about offering it the beast core fragments as a meal and allowing us both to go forward?

@yrsillar would this be allowed?

He says he takes the disciple who choses to return back, and he's being used to power the formations. I suspect he can simply teleport us.

Allies who we've already definitively passed. We joined them when we were weaker then any of them, but we don't exactly own them for that - them taking us on helped them pass the first test. The second test was individual, and we passed the third with a by.

The training we got from them? Again the almost certainly are also benefiting from that, training against techniques they wouldn't otherwise see and getting raise attriutes and skills that they wouldn't challenge agaisnt each other. We also aren't losing that training even if our relationship devloves.

Thunderdome fight? We've invested a bunch of actions into raising our relationship with Xuilan, and what's damaging it at this point is us blowing past her in cultivation. Guess what? that's going to keep happening. She isn't a contender for the inner eight slots, not unless she comes across some major luck. Like, people were arguing it was screwing over Suyin to try and share the vent with Jian and company because they're competitors for the Inner Sect, and I was scraching my head because... no. None of them are making inner sect through combat. Suyin might through production.

The big benifit they bring is that we're all about the debuffs, so any ally is helpful for drawing attention and doing damage as we set that up. But they aren't special for that, and they're becoming less useful there. We'll soon have spirit buddies, we're starting to do missions with Meizhen, and Suyin and Ling are buffing up.

If we could make an alliance with Ji Rong without drawing undue trouble? It's actually something worthwhile to think about. It might be more worthwhile then the actions needed to juggle Suyin's and Jian's teams against each other. The only problem is if it might annoy Meizhen. Not sure what she thinks of him.

And no, he's not getting written off. That's exactly what I'm talking about when I say wishful. "Ji Hong has been crippled by this setback and is about to die. All the Green Cultivators will be given a by so that they don't take all the top spots." These are wishful. Getting into the inner sect is a 1%er thing. Actually, it's more like a .08%er thing. You either have to be a high noble with decent talent and a decade of resources poured into making you a monster, or you need a mix of absurd luck and a ton of talent.

Like, maybe if you made peak Green or beyond you would be given a by via apprenticeship. There might be secret tests on the mountain you can find that give you a by, I'm interested in looking for something like that. But we need to start making ourselves a monster, that or accept being the victim of monsters.

You are being really extreme with the final results here. It's like you never actually read my post about that at all or something. If you are really concerned with Ji Hong after the 1 month is over go challenge him to a duel at the exact moment we know he is weaker than us. Than take everything he has. There are so many options to dealing with Ji Hong just letting him go unchallenged is a mistake.

You are really focusing on alliances like having an alliances with someone weaker than us is a bad thing. It's not. It's not dragging us down it is only helping us. There are helping us with knowledge and benefits outside of pure cultivation numbers. Looking at your arguments you seem to put anything that does not help our pure cultivation numbers on some sort of srub tier of help. This is quite the different from me which values the knowledge and experience of our friends quite highly. The knowledge and experience of our friends will help us navigate the dangerous political waters of the Empire.

Exciting, this is the longest post since starting this event
"I'll catch you a rabbit or something myself if we get through this alright," Ling Qi muttered, drawing an approving hiss from the currently large serpent.
Yes! Awesome to see Ling Qi making inroads to befriending Cui, best way to properly integrate herself into the smaller girl's life and set the foundation for platonic life partnership!

Grade one beasts are not particularly intelligent.
Interesting to hear, if a little disappointing. Not so much for the fight, since that helps, but that we won't be able to properly befriend our companion at grade one. Though binding is meant to make them more intelligent.

I find it weird how exciting it is reading dice rolls and successes, translating them into some sort of epic back and forth in my mind. Then I get to read the actual back and forth and it's like double the fun :p
Awesome battle, the Bai's made it look easy but I suppose a good supporter will rarely be recognised.

"Come, we may count our spoils later. I tire of this place,"
I didn't try particularly hard to hide how much I enjoyed the last chapter but I do hope Meizhen won't come to regret her first time asking us for something.

So I think volunteering is the way to go, almost scared to see what Meizhen would pick with her mind the way it is right now...

Does the doubling stack for each stage you are above your opponent? Are you sure it doesn't just double once, or that it scales to triple, quadruple, and so on as you add on stages?

We got an art and a bunch of resources. Success! Lets show Meizhen that we value her.

We came here simply to help Meizhen, we have and we've already got some fairly nice rewards for doing so, the best thing we can do to reinforce the fact that Ling Qi is a legit friend she can get close to is act selflessly here and honor the spirit of our arrangement. If we wait, we're cementing ourselves as subordinate because we can't really do anything to gainsay her, if we push for our passage we're spitting on our reason for being here.

You were specifically using example of there helpfulness that are no longer relevant, so of course those are the examples I knocked down. And I made clear how much effort I thought they were worth in the last update. With dedicate social actions that can change, but knowing how much something is worth is important when making choices Jian isn't worth an endless stream of actions, but the quest is being re-juggled so that's no longer as much a problem. We now get five major and 3 minor, which means we can touch base with three friend groups a turn rather then crippling ourselves.

Also, it's very likely a test of teamwork. And while "rushing to our death together" is good teamwork, it's less so when we don't actually have that much to win. Like there are times when one must take risks, there are times when one must know to retreat. risking our friend's life for greed isn't exactly the best teamwork.
