Yeah, I'm a bit surprised my plan was the only one that's trying to do this. It seems pretty important.

Frankly, the politics of the situation are such that there is nothing we can do at the moment to change them. What could we do with that knowledge? Avoid people who don't like us, try to make friends with important people, try to challenge people who are weak but politically important. Knowledge of how politics works only helps if we can use the politics to our advantage, and I'm not seeing that happening yet.
I do acknowledge the point about how politics are affecting our life right now, and more knowledge about them would be useful, especially regarding the major players who showed up at the end of the battle.
It has been pointed out to me that we could ask Meizhen what went down politically in that last battle in between walking around searching for houses, and it would give us a conversation to talk about instead of awkward silence.
However, I'm not sure if that would be double dipping into the Han Jian action.
What would be people's reaction to a change that added, ---[] talk to Bai Meizhen about the politics of the battle, underneath house shopping with Bai Meizhen?

Seems a little bit short sighted. We don't even know what we don't know. They are unknown unknowns, not known unknowns, so we can't even avoid problems right now.

That's kind of dubious. I might buy it if she said 'once you break through into Yellow Soul' or 'once you make Yellow Soul AND Silver Physique' or something specific like that, but there are no techniques with Silver Physique I'm aware of and even then the either/or nature of 'Silver OR Yellow' seems to just be an indication of 'once you're strong enough to make a difference in a real fight'. Note we promised not to make her wait long on that.

I wouldn't say shortsighted, but it is also not ideal. Ideally, we would figure out who to avoid and why, but I see little interest in politics beyond that. However, we have the current understanding of pretty much-avoiding everyone other than our friends, and I'm not sure how much additional knowledge would change that. Also, I did make an edit to the post you quoted talking about adding an addition to the "House Search" option which would have us talking with Meizhen about the politics of the battle.
I am still unsure if I should make that change as it could be considered double dipping to the Han Jian action.
I disagree, but given that there's no hard evidence one way or another I can't say much more than that.
I saw it but thought that it was try to breakthrough and use actions to rebuild for another try if it fails.
edit: rather then try to breakthrough in two different areas.
An action to max spiritual
an attempt at the first breakthrough pass/fail
recovery to return to max or shot at the second breakthrough
try to break through the first again recover from the second fail or complete and become yellow.

Do you think we could add a specific 'would it be appropriate to thank Cai/Gan' for helping us/what would be an appropriate thank you' sort of thing? Or do you think that's an implicit part of picking the action?

Yes, I *do* think the Gan Guangli action would be worth it. But at the moment I'm staring at it with the same trepidation that I stared at the 'let's go steal a necklace on Cui's word'. It could backfire quite horribly, depending on how many people saw the gutter rat try to offer Gan Guangli lunch.

Ummm, no not really. We just got 85 more spirit stones than we were expecting to have. Our Current reserves are far from depleted. A pill week will take about 20-30 spirit stones so we would still have enough for quite a few pill weeks.
That's... really not my top priority right now. Honestly, it's not even in my top 3 priorities.

Really? What is your top three priorities if I may ask? Because plan [] Raging fire has social, making sure that Meizhen doesn't make more enemies, a breakthrough to yellow as well as getting good progression with AS 5.
My top three are maintaining our various social links (my big problem with Raging Fire for that is that it doesn't include talking to Gu Xiulan -- although, granted, it seems to have only 4 actions unless the yellow breakthrough bit is meant to be two actions, in which case it should probably say so), keeping our ear to the ground to see what the rest of our "class" of disciples are up to so we don't get surprised, and breaking through (I'd prefer silver before yellow since we're already there, but it seems that most people disagree with that).
