Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

The odds for double breakthrough are exactly the same as for 2 single breakthroughs for 2 weeks. However, we can't afford to ignore social, and we need the combat boost from a breakthrough. We know we are going to fail at least one breakthrough, so it's better that we have a fallback plan (social).

@yrsillar, you've misspelled Kang Zihao's name (as has apparently everyone else in the thread) in the Relationships threadmark. It's Kang Zihao, as shown in his original appearance.

The amount of misspelled names in this thread is out of control. I've seen Cai Renxing (it's Renxiang), Li Qing and Qi Ling (it's Ling Qi, come on), Bei Meizhen (it's Bai), etc. Gu Xiulan is the worst for it, though people are also pretty bad with getting parts of Han Fang and Fan Yu's names mixed together.
It is funny when it continues to happen despite being 33 updates in but it's not to bad as you can tell whom they mean most of the time. As for "Bei" Meizhen it's not necessarily wrong.

But it looks like the winning plan still has us spend an action doing unrelated cultivation instead of all social

also, to be honest I don't actually care if bai evicts someone

I do like that Cai Renxiang made it clear that looting beaten opponent was perfectly normal... and that being beaten meant not being able to escape on your own power.

It's also nice that her family is in control of this area, and so the looting of failed ambushes would be the norm here. I don't know what would be the case of challenges, probably merely taking a token of victory.

Given she is still very clearly favouring us, I'd say that she considers what we did to Hong Lin and the Twins perfectly justified. Possibly because we were the challenged one, and not the challenger.

Well yes, that is a valid plan, but the point of cultivating Argent Soul right now is to take advantage of one last turn with the Qi foundation pill to gain +9 on that roll. Also, I do care if Meizhen evicts someone and so that is why it is part of my plan.

In a perfect spherical cow world, all duels would end with a transfer of some token number of spirit stones or a single talisman from loser to winner. Sadly such a world is not the one we live in.

Cai Renxiang was fairly miffed for several reasons in that scene. The exact nature of how much looting is appropriate is pretty context sensitive.

So there is this one thing that bugs me with Kang Zihao's plan. I mean it is kinda clear what he was going for, wait until Bai Meizhen is injured, have weaker cultivators attack so he could claim to have "rescued" them and use his smack talk to paint himself as the good guy here... but why the heck did he attack Ling Qi after his whole "I am justice" speech? It is kinda like "I am here to protect the weak so I will kill that weakling over there first."

I mean with how much time had passed the mist should have been dissolving so even if he said it was to remove that debuff it does not really make sense. I guess it could have been that he wanted to get a reaction from Bai Meizhen, she did get surprised by his action and was described as "coldly murderous" afterwards... I guess Ling Qi actually getting really hurt might have induced the murder rampage people was worried about.

No double breakthrough plan? I am disappoint.
Seconded.

That would take all five actions, and in a time of social upheaval, and out odds wouldn't be good anyways.
Our odds not being good are EXACTLY why we want to try for multiple breakthroughs. Doing so basically halves our chance of total failure, which is good because we are kinda being targeted and we need to break through at least once ASAP.

First, cultivating at the vents already has us socializing with Su Ling and Li Suyin - and AFAIK they are the only ones that we need to social urgently.

Secondly, why in the world would be take social as a fallback plan if we can have our other breakthrough as a fallback instead?

I think there is only so much he could have done to Bai Meizhen. He knows perfectly well that he can't afford to wound her too significantly. However, he could definitely use the fight as a way to kill us and make her hurt. We don't matter as much as Meizhen here, but if what he wanted to do was really, really hurt Meizhen as well as insult the Bai clan? Killing us works.

but why the heck did the attack Ling Qi after his whole "I am justice" speech?

My best guess is that he is egotistical and incapable of seeing the hypocrisy in his statements. We were allies on Meizhen's side, and we were preventing over half of his pseudo-allies from attacking and weakening Bai. By removing us from the equation he allows his allies better shots, invokes a murderous rampage from Bai, and is able to use this justification to strike Bai down, possibly crippling her.

Well, it's not like she just insulted his father by implying that he was a disposable boytoy. Or that Meizhen had just clearly indicated she is at least somewhat personally attached to Ling Qi in the lead up to the fight.

Or in other words, teenagers are dumb and hot headed. :p

And other reasons too, of course

As much as it pains me, I'm ignoring cultivating Argent Soul, and while I know that we will regret that later on (since each action is (Talent 6, Suyin 2, Red Spirit Stone 5, Pills 3 =) 16 dices for Argent soul), making sure our friends are developing optimally takes priority. As such they all need to be at the vent, and get the physical training. Getting a decent spot for living should take priority, or we may end up next to Huang Da. *shudder*

We don't know the value of Monster Cores, so we may be robbing Su Ling blind, so I'm not adding that part.

Secondly, why in the world would be take social as a fallback plan if we can have our other breakthrough as a fallback instead?

What if we fail both? Each breaktrough has a chance of 42,25%. That's too darn low for my taste, and in worse case scenario may leave us backwards for weeks in cultivation. We need to prepare for worst case scenario, and that is that we won't breakthrough this month. So ignoring social and hoping for the best seems like a bad idea.

I don't see why everyone is jumping on a plan that wastes pills when we could be trading some for useful stuff from Su Ling and helping our ally out.
Beast cores are basically used as cultivation pills, so i don't see the point of this trade
We can no longer use them the moment we hit either Silver or Yellow. Su Ling is an ally who might help us in a fight in the future, her growing stronger helps us. Our search the mountain actions have found us good things, and they're dependent on Su Ling, so if we want to keep doing them she need to grow.

Three birds, one stone.
See?

Then I guess you don't care if we eventually wind up in another 8+v2 because everyone hates us and Meizhen even more thanks to worse even optics/rep.

It's not a waste of pills? The pills being used are specifically for the cultivation of Argent Soul and Qi. We don't need the extra Qi right now, but the quicker we can get done with AS 5, the sooner we can start cultivating EPC. We also have two Qi foundation pills, and so later we can trade one to Su Ling for useful stuff.

Beside us having 2 Qi Foundation Pills, not one, there is simply the fact those pills are much stronger if you have good Talent, and it's very likely Su Ling only has Talent 4 or so, making the Qi Foundation Pill average to her.

Fight reactions:
* Mid-Gold, eh? ^__^
* So it was a plot by an almost-peer of Bai, attempting to look righteous as he tries to eliminate her.
* Cai's faction isn't adamant against Bai, and she considers Ling Qi (in a minor way?) a responsibility, perhaps? That's peculiar. I could be reading overly-much into that though.
* Kang's already mobilized his followers and they're very much anti-Bai - and now (if not before) anti-Ling. Kang himself is probably unlikely to attack Ling Qi - especially not without a better excuse than this time (he's already lost some face) - but his followers may try again at some odds greater than one-on-one. On the other hand, Ling Qi made a good showing, dodging all attempts to hit her while doing damage in return - so they might decide it's too much of a risk.
* Cai will fight Bai in a more formal challenge once the latter heals up - probably as part of the establishment of the proper order at the top of the heap. She seems quite fair in her outlook.

Incidentally, I would suggest that Ling Qi only loot those who challenge her with less than honorable intentions (and steal from those who have exhibited less-than-honorable actions). Those that seek her out openly for the simple challenge - no 'charge' for the experience. And that Ling Qi might benefit from sparring with Gan and others on the same tier - both in training and in widening her social connections. The more who see her in a positive light, the better - and the more who see her interacting positively with those of 'proper' status, the more who will decide that going after her for "rising above her station" is either inappropriate or would have social consequences.

Also... a hundred stones to heal from Sun Liling's inflicted injuries?? Yikes! Nice of Bai to pay for Ling Qi's healing as well - once the qi's restored, Ling Qi should be ready to face the world again! Incidentally, I would again suggest putting a charge of Crescent's Grace in a card some time very soon...

Social changes - Bai and Gu are Ling Qi's friends for sure now. On the down side, both Kang and Hong are definitely enemies. On a plus, "Argent Peak Outer Disciples" have changed to being 'wary'. I'm suspecting that Ling Qi's future fights will either come from the two enemies' alliances or be from getting caught up in those of her own allies.

A nice wide range of stat progression, but nothing increasing sharply. Quite a large chunk of change for loot though.

Quite a large chunk of loot - would it be possible to go back to the person she commissioned the flute upgrade from and give them more stones for an even better resul
I don't think we went with the flute upgrade? I could be wrong but I don't think a flute upgrade plan won, and the last shopping trip we didn't do anything with the flute.

I really am not too worried about where we live and will gladly take the greater chance of getting SOME breakthrough over an extra nine dice for Argent. I don't see social as a backup for failing our breakthrough rolls and the only social I feel we need to worry about now, Li Suyin, is covered by it.

If recent combat does improve breakthrough chances, as has been implied in-story, putting off a potentially better chance is a huge mistake.
