Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

I would very strongly suggest switching the head meridian to a leg one, we KNOW we'll need more leg meridans at some point, but we don't even know what head meridians do.

Yeah, I keep going back and forth but I've settled on legs too.

Edit: Didn't we get hold head was for perception techniques? Eh, doesn't really matter. We might need a leg soon, and if we don't, we'll still find a use for it.

It wouldn't work, for the same reason I just realized both my plan and @Arkeus plan won't work.

Stacking the same kind of meridian doesn't generate additional rolls, instead it adds half dice to your current roll. Which is just an awful choice. I can't believe I missed that. I tend to think of each Meridian opening as a different action, but we only get that because we're opening a bunch of different ones. If we stack the same action we get reduced results.

Edit: Thanks for making me do the math again. It made me recheck my logic.

Edit of the Edit: Putting it in legs. The following level of SCS might need it, and if not... well, I had to put it somewhere.

Ahhh. Okay, yeah, I see it. Huh.
Unfortunately, @Arkeus is currently asleep, though I'm sure we'll see the same change over on the other side once that small issue is resolved. Given the way things are going, even if we don't find a second Leg art that we want, SCS is sure to consume another one for itself at some point.

Thought on Head: Head's pretty rare. There's a good chance we will want a head meridian at some point, but we should wait until we have art in hand before we open it.

Fuck it I can not seem to fix this, so I'm just going to post it as is; rough edges and all. If someone wants to expand or revise it I release it to them. I think part of the problem is due to a recent focus on playwriting which is really messing me up.

Hm, well not canon, for a number of reasons, but yeah go ahead and have your Bonus dice/XP

@yrsillar how about this?

Edit: I guess what I'm asking is if we can breakthrough in the same turn that we reach peak. Intuitively I think we should, since it's an abstraction, but it's ultimately up to you.

This is legal, though obviously if the first breakthrough fails the other slot goes up for grabs

I-I ship it?

Sorry Gu Xiulan you're a sorta-friend but I must support any plan to ship Fluffy Tail with her Sword-Sempai, they are just too cute. :D

...Someone got a gif of Azula losing her shit? It would be representative.

..Are we like the only mass pill user?

You are not, but keep in mind that everyone else suffers from lower talent, average is 4-5, below average is three. Most folks don;t get nearly as much success as Ling Qi even with a greater number of dice.

Do bonus elemental art dice from gear apply to rolls that just get passive bonuses from an art? (like Expression or perception from FVM?)
Do they apply to buffs from active use of an art (like the +3 to defense that we get from Crescent's Grace?)

Also, I saw a few places where we got a one-die reroll, rolled a 1, and didnt' get another reroll (Physical, SCS, *and* Spiritual) was that intentional?
No they don't go on the passive bonuses unless it specifies,

I've asked the QM if it is allowed, and depending on what people want I might go Physical Overflow first. There is a couple other things I'd need to check too, like if Silver gives a free action or it's only if you are Yellow that you have it.

It's Yellow in particular.

(Actually, @yrsillar - can we assume this? I mean, someone living on the street for awhile is going to be accustomed to finding places to stash small valuables - and I wager most disciples won't be all that practiced at finding such hidden items)

Ling Qi actually keeps the slip on her person out of fear of someone rummaging through her house. Meizhen is often out after all. However it's in a pocket stitched into the inside of her undergarments, so someone would have to be pretty, uh... thorough to find it.

Also, Gu yelled at us for not introducing her to our friends. Maybe she won't be so keen on that in the future. >_>

Well while I won't say Ling Qi should be fine with it, there was a time gap between that and this event. Suffice to say Gu Xiulan feels justified in her attitude toward Suyin.

I

But seriously, Gu Xiulan really needs to get a handle on herself, anytime something vaguely female shaped looks Han Jian way's she enters bitch mode.

I'll just point out that she has several female siblings, whom Han Jian implied were around his home often enough to 'spoil' Heijin and the other cubs. There's also the fact that Fan Yu was not entirely talking out his ass when he mentioned Han Jian's rep as a ladykiller.

[x] Plan The Zephyr Will Fly

Also I said I would do art, and i have it here, my approval of this plan is totally contingent on MY BOY HAN JIAN. jk, it's popular and also preempts our massive pill-popping spree. Still a bit rough but eh.

Next up I'll probably draw that creepy kid cause I kind of find him hilarious.

I look forward to your work. Have +3 because your art remains awesome. :)

We hope to get access to the library. It's not guaranteed... and the contents of the library are also not guaranteed. Last time we went in there there were four heart arts. *Four*. That doesn't speak to an overwhelming selection. Maybe there are more in the back. Maybe there aren't. Maybe our key will give us access to them. Maybe it won't. We don't know. "Best Arm art from the available options, for our needs" might not be all that good. Now, Arm is likely a bit more common than heart in this case, so maybe six to eight of the things? If we're lucky we'll get one or maybe two that are in the elements we're already investing in? Hope one of those two is worth it... but that's a fairly big stack of ifs.

What makes you think that Thunderdome won't be *this* week's event?

Ling Qi found the first few that she could locate that only took a single heart meridian. There are upwards of a hundred art scrolls on the first floor

Anyway, I think that's all the major questions answered.

On the one side? That's cool. On the other side, how are you going to mechanic selecting from "upwards of a hundred art scrolls on the first floor" if we *do* get a library key?

Just which meridians you want it to use. So say arm art or a combo spine/head art or whatever. You can also specify an element, but if you do there will probably only be two or maybe three choices.

neat

I did not actually expect to get anything from something so rough, so I have put no thought into where to put any Bonus dice/XP. Thoughts from the thread on if I should put it somewhere other then the default Physical or Spiritual cultivation.

Edit: if no one says anything i'll probably add it to Spiritual

edit: will check back in the morning goodnight

...I am confused. Can someone please explain to me, in simple terms, exactly what's the difference between Plan Zephyr and Plan Plan? From what I'm getting it seems to be the diff between next stage Zephyr vs getting an arm meridian? Is one plan or another getting edited because of some revelation involving math and not getting to to work on the same meridian twice or something?

Also, I thought we voted to let our friends know we'd be drugged a lot for the coming week. Did that get sidestepped due to drama between our two group of friends?

Something I forgot to comment: from what Heijin is saying, I think that, more than lazy, Han Jian used to be the supreme stereotypical Young Master. Arrogant, womanizer, spoiled.

Wasted his talent and resources by lazing away his time, possibly drinking and gambling, using those as crutches instead of cultivating them.

Then something kicked him in the balls so hard he did a 180 turn into someone whom makes every effort of being nice, pleasant and polite. You meet him today, you would think he is the super-nice, humble and down to earth reincarnate.

And from what Yrsillar just said... I think Han Jian used to, until very recently, make Fan Yu look downright pleasant to be around.

And Gu Xiulan got a inferiority complex a mile wide, due to her elder, possibly more successful sisters, that got further screwed into her current issues by Han Jian's situation and general noble-politics bullshit.

There was one mistake both of us made in doubling up heart, but the big difference is that getting to Zephyr 3 is success expensive, extra successes become overflow that fuels physical and spiritual cultivation, and we need all those successes for getting closer to breakthrough. It works out to Plan Plan giving us only three more successes on average... but 21 more successes on average (effectively 42 dice more) in Physical and Spiritual cultivation.

So yes, switching one art of to a meridian makes a turns difference on when we break through.

Edit: Honestly compels me to say we also want to open arms, we're opening four meridians here. We only have so many choices.

I'm gonna suggest you split it between 'Presence' (1 dot 8/10 -> 9/10 & 'Expression' (2 dots 7/9 -> 8/9 one each. Or toss them both into 'Stealth' (3 dots 5/12 -> 7/12) or both into 'Persuasion' (2 dots 5/9 -> 7/9)

What was the issue with rolls compiling? I'm pretty sure tea is a separate roll thus no issue. I didn't see anything wrong with either plan.

Oh sweet, I actually have a list of arts that I think would be cool that I never posted for some reason.

High Priority

Theft Art that upgrades to Conceptual theft (probably hand or arm meridian, maybe multi-meridian, probably darkness, maybe multi-element): An art that lets you steal things, starting with physical things, and moving onto more conceptual things be it health, experience, attribute dots, or whatever else. Passive boosts to larceny rolls, allows us to train larceny while training the art.

Medium Priority

Sensory Art
(probably head meridian, wind art preferably, but earth art might have its advantages): Art that allows broad area spatial awareness and aids in keeping track of multiple people at once. Hopefully can help train War or perception-based attributes and skills. Even better if it allows you to find resources or spirit beasts.

Wind Armor/Invisibility Art (probably spine meridian and head meridian, wind art preferably): Acts as a sort of armor that lies right next to the skin. Can be expended once to prevent a OHKO and permits invisibility at the cost of (likely) speed. Helps train stealth.

Okay, we probably can't get both invisibility and armor, but if we can, whee. For when we want to be stealthier than a piper making music in the woods.

Resilience Art: Not sure what could be included here. But whatever lets you resist more exotic effects such as poison or fear effects.

Low priority

Weapon Art (melee)
: An art that lets you use invisible weapons. An art that poisons your weapons. An art that makes your weapons do sudden and extreme damage. IDK.

Formation Art: Mostly to figure out what they do. If they can help train our formation skill, even better. If they count as exotic, then upgrade this to medium priority.

Production and Harvesting Arts
: Mostly to figure out what they do.

Heart wasn't being put onto a tea roll, is was being rolled twice in the open...

Which could fix the issue, yonk.

Edit: Zephyr is still redirecting effort away from being ready to break through sooner.

Huh... Well, my last vote was to give up long-term gains for short term ones so we'd be ready for the thunder dome. Since thunder dome has not yet hit and we're still in crunch time, I guess I should be carrying on with that until we see exactly how fierce the competition is.

What was the issue with rolls compiling? I'm pretty sure tea is a separate roll thus no issue. I didn't see anything wrong with either plan.

Actually, let me rephrase that. I can double up Heart by putting one heart in Tea and one heart in general, but Zephyr depends on one Zephyr roll in tea, and one in general. It can't double up on heart. @Sirrocco, you want us to cultivate multiple heart Meridians this turn? Zypher either has to give up cultivating multiple Hearts, Multiple Zephyr's, or become much less effective, losing a qi proc and overflow.

[x] Plan The Zephyr Will Fly

@Arkeus seems like switching the duplicate heart meridian to something else is between lung and leg. Or arm I guess, but I don't see any 1 meridian arts appealing that much; an arm/spine might be okay, but meh. Leg has the advantage of probably being needed before a third meridian for FVM is needed.

Ladies and gentlemen of the thread. I'd like to propose something that is both highly lucrative and highly dangerous.

1x Heart, 1x for each Art as our baseline. (We can probably buff FVM and ZB up to two if we want). This ensures we can use and equip all of our Arts at the maximum quality that we're aware of.

At least one action, we should put as a conditional. "Attempt to break through to Silver if we reach Peak Gold". With the backup plan being another Art Training

That leaves us with 5 actions accounted for, we functionally have 'Seven', which we can either use on even more Meridians probably, or instead augment our progress on Arts, I'm not picky.

When possible, we should spend time with Han Jian and our other allies, because we can do this without interfering with our Cultivation.

But yeah, we should inform them all that we're making a big push this week to get ready for the thunderdome at all costs. As long as we actually do our training with them, they'll probably be okay with it.

If we use all of our Meridian Overflows (Which does mean we should get at least two. Probably Heart to make sure we can use all the Arts we currently have, then either Spine or Arm, leaning towards Spine at the moment because I suspect that SCS will eventually require one to support the speed we're getting) on Physical Cultivation, we have a high chance of hitting Peak Gold, then ensuring that when thunderdome starts, people might not know that we've broken through to Silver until we've fought a few times.

Of course, the downside here occurs if we fail the breakthrough. Our chances are pretty good compared to our peers, but it's still a 35% chance of failure. I think what people do when they say "I'm sequestering myself away" is that they're committing multiple training sessions along with breakthrough attempts to get as many attempts in in that single week as they possibly can.

Still, it's a risk worth trying. Very few people are Silver, and most of them don't really need what we have--and the ones that do would be coming for them regardless.

We need to roll twice to breaktrough to the second stage. So that means we need to roll 0.65*0.65 = 42,25% of success. That's 57,75% chance to fail.
